Legal Advice My wife and I had an IVF baby but the baby looks very much Caucasian and we are both Pakistani and dark.

My wife and I had an IVF baby but the baby looks very much Caucasian and we are both Pakistani and dark.

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 07:29 AM PDT

The fertility clinic definitely messed up. My wife loves the baby way too much to say anything. Obviously the baby is going to grow up and ask questions. People near me ask if baby was adopted because baby is white and we are brown. I am going to get a DNA kit for my personal knowledge. But we are scared that we might lose custody if we say anything and we have become very attached to baby who is one years old now.

    What should I do?

The egg and sperm was supposed to come from us. Did they mess up the embryo with wrong sperm or egg or did they insert the wrong embryo?

Just to clarify it's not just skin colour, it's also eye colour and hair colour

Ex showed his friends our sex tape. I wasn’t age of consent.

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 12:12 AM PDT

Around a year and a half ago a boyfriend (16 at the time, now 18) and I (F, 15 at the time, now 16) made a sex tape. I knew he was filming and let him save it thinking he wouldn't share it. Yes, I realize how stupid it was now and very much regret it. He showed the video to at least a dozen different people in person, but supposedly didn't send it. I was under the age of consent in the video, and my only proof is him admitting and apologizing for it over text.

If I went to the authorities, what would he be charged with? Would it matter that it happened over a year ago? Would he be in more trouble now that he's 18? What trouble could i face since i let him take & save the video? Would it count as statutory rape too? I've wanted to tell my parents about it and go to the authorities but i'm ashamed. He didn't face any consequences from it. I'm also scared of getting in trouble too for letting him record and not telling somebody about it sooner.

(this happened in Pennsylvania if that helps or changes anything.)

Edits: Thank you all for the feedback so far, its thoroughly appreciated. I'll be going through and replying to as many comments as I can shortly. I just wanted to quickly add though, that he has lied or given half truths every time I have asked so far. He did not come forward and apologize on his own. He denied it the first time I asked, lied the second, gave half truths the third while promising it was the full truth, and has yet to give me a list of people he showed, saying he doesn't remember. I'm just trusting his word that he didn't send it and only showed it in person. I also do understand that people make mistakes. Recording it in the first place was a mistake on both of us, but in my opinion there's mistakes and then there's a lack of morals. As far as I know, he no longer has the videos on his phone and hasn't showed them recently, but I don't have proof of that yet. I'll add more information if needed and thank you all again for the help so far.

I need help. Please. Im scared for my sister and CPS does nothing. PA, USA

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 06:08 AM PDT

Backstory: when I lived at my moms house I was verbally abused daily, hit, and raped. My step dad climbed into my bed. The house was/is littered in animal feces. I have first hand experience what is going to eventually happen to my sister.

My sister is significantly younger than me (still in elementary) and she just had her first encounter with real physical abuse from my moms bf. We called the cops and CPS and got everyone involved told them everything that has been going on in that house hoping that with the photo evidence we have, my first hand experience, and my sisters experience and her telling CPS directly what is happening in that house. About when they didn't have water for about a month, having no heat in winter, the drugs and alcohol, the house is literally crumbling apart, etc... that there would be no way CPS would allow a child to live in that.

They don't care. They just told us there's nothing they can do and to just keep filing reports but there's nothing that can be done to help her.

My mom is planning on letting the abuser come back to the house. He told my sister my moms next bf would rape her. I feel like that is just him saying that he's going to rape her in a weird way. Im so scared.

I want to prevent my sister from being abused. I need to prevent her from being raped. I don't know what to do if CPS won't do anything. How do I help her? Please.

I have a stable home, job, etc... I have the capacity to care for her but I don't even feel like I have a chance if CPS won't help me.

Dusty landlord opened my IRS letter with my FULL SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER IN PLAIN TEXT, used that to do background check, and now wants to put be out because of it. How illegal is this?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 09:09 AM PDT

I have a PO box now, but before I got one, I unfortunately found out that the IRS is disabled. I was sent a letter WITH MY FULL SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER IN PLAIN TEXT to add on a health care form to my 2019 tax return.

Dusty landlord opened it, did a background check about a year after I've been living here. Found out I "altered merch" and shoplifted (hid and stole candy in my purse) from Walmart as a TEENAGER, and wants to put me out even though I pay rent on time and never bother them.

    From virginia

Tl;Dr: is it illegal for a landlord to get rid of a tenant if the reasoning is because they did a background check and didnt like the results when the background check was done using a stolen SSN?

Non-profit volunteer accidental drug needle stick

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:54 AM PDT

I volunteered yesterday to work as a nurse with a medical non-profit in Colorado that is assisting a homeless shelter.

As I was assisting a wheelchair-bound patient, I experienced a needle stick from a open needle he had hidden in his bed. The needle pierced through my gloves and broke skin, resulting in a decent amount of bleeding.

The first words out of the patient's mouth were: "Oh S***, I have hepatitis C."

This information turned out to be correct, as the patient is confirmed to have active Hep C, and is a daily IV drug user as well.

Being a nurse and familiar with the CDC guidelines for accident, after washing the area, I immediately contacted the supervisor to report the incident.

I went to the hospital, got blood work, and was prescribed HIV PEP for 28 days (prophylactic antivirals) in accordance with CDC guidelines and the Infectious Disease doctors who were assigned to my case.

My HIV medication is almost a thousand dollars, and I am now responsible for paying for numerous follow-up blood tests at the infectious disease clinic to ensure I have not contracted Hep B, Hep C, or HIV.

The non-profit I volunteered for is REFUSING to cover any costs, insisting that they don't cover volunteers, only employees. They have been dodging my calls and texts, and have only contacted me to very angrily say that "my expectations" are unrealistic.

    What are my options here?

My house burned down. Only my name is on the land/property deed. My S.O. is helping me rebuild it, but now wants to help pay for it... would he have any ownership claim if we ever broke up?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:41 AM PDT

I'll try to keep this short. Live in MN, USA. We've been together nearly 5 years, we both have kids from previous relationships. He moved into my house. I've made it known I may never want to get remarried, but we are a family & our finances are joined. 18 months ago my house burned down. I used some of the insurance money to pay off the mortgage, pay some bills, buy some stuff for all of us. He had access to this money & had no issues spending a good chunk of it. He is helping me rebuild my house along with our family's & friends. He keeps pushing me to allow him to take a withdrawal from his pension to help pay to rebuild, but I say no because it's my house, it's in my name, & I don't want to be pressured into adding his name, or him claiming part ownership, if he helps pay to build it. If we break up I don't want to end up homeless or having to sell it. If I allow him to help pay to rebuild and we ever break up, does he have any legal claim to the house? I worry a judge may say yes since he would have tapped into his pension & we currently are living as a family but not married. (I know I sound like a B, but our relationship has been rocky at best, and he has threatened crap like taking "his" car away from me since it's in his name, (even though we both pay for it) as a way on controlling me. This was years ago & I would like to think we've moved past that since nothing like that has been said again, but I don't want to end up homeless.)

Real Estate Agent intentionally lied about their buyer being able to secure funds for closing. Causing us to lose $30k from another offer. What recourse is available?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 08:16 AM PDT

We live in Texas and are moving out of state.

We entered into a contingent offer with a buyer, but received an offer for $30k more and wanted to pursue the better offer. We gave the contingent buyers the option to meet the better offer or remove contengency from the contact so we could close earlier. Their realtor said the buyer was able to secure funds and got proof from their lender they could close without contengency.

The day of closing, their lender would not provide funds because they hadn't sold their other home. Their realtor couldn't provide the proof she supposedly received from their lender that kept this contract on track to proceed. Now we have to wait for their house to sell to complete the sell of our own home.

The bottom line is that their agent fraudulently misrepresented their position. I assume to retain her own $10k realtor fee. We are out $30k from the other offer, and additional expenses now that we have to wait however long for their home to sell, should we continue with the contact.

What options do we have as a seller to recoup that money?

Fired for having a seizure - what can I do?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:46 AM PDT

Hi, I'm talking on behalf of my friend. He has epilepsy and only gets seizures once a year. He happened to have his seizure at work last Friday (9/4/20) at 10 am. When he came back in today (9/8/20) he was fired for "falsely reporting information" on his application by not reporting his disability, as he believed it happens rarely and should have little to no impact on his work as he mostly answered phones/worked at a desk trouble shooting for customers. I'm helping him file a report with the EEOC. But we are wondering if this would be considered discrimination and if he has a case? Any legal advice would be helpful, thanks so much!

Just so you know he and the employee are both located in Kentucky.

(Chicago) How to get ambulance chasing attorneys to stop harassing me?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:39 PM PDT

yesterday I was involved in a minor hit and run accident. I was rear ended while sitting at a red light, there was only a couple minor paint scrapes, but due to the fact the guy who rear ended me decided to floor it and hook a left turn through a red light to get away, I decided to make a police report. Well today, I've had about 15 calls from various attorneys trying to get me to pursue legal action and go to the hospital and all this other stuff. I've told several of them I'm not interested but the calls keep coming. I was on a zoom call and it cut out because an ambulance chaser had to call in the middle of my class. It's straight up harassment at this point, and I'm on the do not call list. Is there something I can do to stop these calls?

Landlord gave 7 day notice to remove dogs

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 02:13 PM PDT

We have been living at this property for over a year, nearly two now. The park we live in changed owners a month or two ago, and we just received this notice on our front door:

"It has come t o our attention that you have a breed of canine residing at your residence that is prohibited at our property. Unfortunately, our insurance provider doesn't allow the following breeds (including mix breeds) - Pit Bull, German Shepherds, Rottweiler and Doberman Pinscher. You have 7 days from the date of this notice to have your animal removed from property or you will be evicted immediately." (we have a Bully mix and a Shepherd mix)

Is this legal? Is there anything I can do? Note that we've had these dogs for the entire duration of our stay at this property. The house itself is owned by us, and we just rent the lot it's on.

    Tree law question

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 07:24 AM PDT

I bought a house a year ago. There are three trees right on the property line, (on the neighbors side), who's branches have grown up and over our house, causing damage to our roof with lichen. They also would cause serious damage to our home if the branches broke off in the wind. I live in a costal New England area, so we do get plenty of strong winds. Less importantly, (unless you ask my husband), they are also located in such a way that we cannot get the Dish service that has a monopoly on the NFL streaming rights. My husband is an avid football game, so this is a much bigger deal to him than it is to me.
Anyhow, this neighbor just put their home on the market. Do I have any legal right to ask them to remove the trees, or failing that- to remove the branches growing onto our property and causing damage?

Ideally, they would take care of this before the sale of their home, or have the tree removal contingent to the sale. I don't want to start a neighborly relationship with the new buyers, (I'm not even sure there has been an offer accepted yet), by being "difficult". On the other hand, these trees pose a threat to my property

Both parents passed two years ago. Received a call looking for my father about a complaint/pending actions against him. Should I call the number back to let them know he/they passed or just ignore it.

Mom passed in Jan and then Dad in Aug of the same year. My sibling and I never co-signed anything for them. The voicemail sounded like a real person but still could be a scam. IDK. Probate closed Oct 2018 in SC. Not sure how they found my number and not know that he died. Anyway, should I call them back or just ignore it?

Neighbor damaged my car, and landlord is covering for them.

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:22 PM PDT

    Location: Los Angeles, CA

I live in a smaller building with an underground parking garage. My neighbor drives absolutely MASSIVE SUVs and regularly parks on or over the line (I have photos), spilling into my parking spot.

I've asked the neighbors to be watchful — since they do have children and it's sometimes been hard for me to park.

I woke up yesterday to a huge dent in my door at the height of their back passenger SUV door. After leaving a note to call me and being ignored — I contacted building management to pull the security tapes that happen to be pointed almost directly at the gap between my car and my neighbor's.

The landlord has since refused the request — citing "they're [the neighbors are] a good family" amongst other excuses.

Is there a way for me to get ahold of this footage? And going even further — is there a way for this to be forcefully covered by the neighbor's insurance?

It's a repair that Is super inconvenient for budgeting, especially being unemployed at the moment. Thank you all so much in advance.

Can a developer annex our property out of a subdivision if we don’t sign his paperwork to add another lot on our street?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:33 AM PDT

Our developer for our subdivision is threatening to annex our property out of the subdivision (revoking our rights to secondary water and all HOA amenities) if we do not sign paperwork agreeing to a reduction of our property size so that he can fit one more lot on our street in an area that was supposed to be a community park. We already own the property as our name is recorded at the county and the financials have already been taken care of clear back in January through a title company. Does his threat have teeth? Do we need to get a lawyer involved? Or is he spewing nonsense and we should just wait him out? - EDIT: We are located in Utah. Weber county specifically.

[Boston, MA] Does "Laundry in Basement" in an apartment ad mean the actual washer and dryers are included?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:42 PM PDT

I recently rented an apartment in Boston.

In the ad, we were told there was laundry in the basement - not laundry hookups. During the tour the agent pointed out the washer/dryer for our unit, and the one for the downstairs unit.

When we got the keys, the washer and dryer were missing - taken by the tenants moving out.

The property management company said they were owned by the tenants, but we were expecting they came with the unit (as it has in similar units we've seen and rented).

Other ads have said "Laundry hookups in basement" when this was the case, so we had assumed that because it was advertised as laundry in basement that we'd be good. The lease doesn't say anything either way.

I'd really like to avoid shelling out for a new washer and dryer for a place that we'll be in for 1-2 years, but do we have a leg to stand on that the unit was advertised as including the units, or are we screwed?

    I was scammed.

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 08:47 AM PDT

Hello everyone! First I'd like to just clarify I know I was dumb and naive in situation and just please don't attack me, I've learned from this experience so much. On Saturday I was at the chase bank atm and a man cornered me and asked me to deposit a check for him, me having bad anxiety and just wanting to help someone i did. I know nothing about checks and it was an $800 check, So I gave him the $500 that the bank allowed me to take out and gave him my number so we can meet tomorrow for the rest of his money. My mom of course freaked at first but we called the bank and let them know the situation. My mom was just going to let it go as she knows the situation with NYPD and didn't want them involved. But then he called me asking to meet up for the rest of his money, we went to the precinct and they said unfortunately they'd have to wait for it to bounce. And then speak to detectives, I asked if he'd be caught and they said yes. Many people on reddit who have gone through this have said the police did nothing because they willingly handed it over, the man has been texting and threatening me for two days now. Seemingly from his actual iPhone and textfrees as well, while I was with the cops he texted me "your husband is outside" they told me not to engage with his texts. These are https://imgur.com/gallery/JXqI0x3 messages he's been sending. My question is do I have any legal ground here to get this man arrested? I figure the money is long gone and nothing can be done my family and I would just like this man arrested so no one else has to go through this. My mom doesn't even let me go anymore until this is over in fear that'll he see me and hound me for his "money"

Roommate gave 30 day notice, hasn't left or paid rent. California

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:18 AM PDT

    Hello

My roommate gave me 30 days notice at the top of August, moved out half of her stuff at the end of the month, then left with the keys and is saying she won't be back until Sept. 20 to collect the rest of her stuff.

I want to remove her stuff from the apartment so I can prepare it to be rented again. She was not on the lease and there was no written rental agreement in this situation, so I'm aware she qualifies as a month to month renter.

According to what I've read, I can file for unlawful detainer, but my question is: most of what I've read states that I have to give her 30 days notice once doing this.

Since she already gave me 30 days (in writing, albeit over phone), am I still required to give an additional 30 days yet again to her? This is what it's reading like to me, and it seems a bit unfair since there was already a 30 day termination in place, given by her.

Additionally, I'd like to replace the locks on the door since she left with the keys. Is this legal for me to do?

    Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

I am located in NY, a police vehicle hit my car turning left without turning on their turn signal. They took my insurance and I.D. and told me to come back tomorrow for the report. I was wondering what my next steps are. Do i need to contact my insurance (geico)? Do i need to file a report with the city? I am also worried that the police report is going to misrepresent what had happened but i do have video footage of what occurred. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

3 years ago my daughter wanted to get away from her abusive ex, so me and my husband allowed her to move her trailer onto our land but now she's back with him and it's causing problems, cops we called last weekend and we told them we didn't want him on our land but they said if our daughter allowed him at her house he could be on our property. We don't want him here, so what can we do legally? Can we make her move her trailer off our property? I'm in Texas if that helps.
