    Is this fraud. Insurance

    Is this fraud. Insurance

    Is this fraud.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 10:03 PM PDT

    Texas

July 26 2019 I received a survey In the mail from an insurance company asking questions for feedback on the purchase of a life insurance policy addressed to me. I didn't make this purchase so I called them. They launched an internal investigation. Before the could talk to me they said they needed time to investigate and would send me the documents for me to have when they called. When I got the application documents and the first thing I noticed was that my signature was forged. The agent said they had known me for a month, but I had never seen this man's face. It said my age was ten years older than I am and It said I was a student when I was not. My father was the beneficiary and the payor was a woman I don't know and have never met.

It was a 5-year convertible term policy with an accidental death benefit rider and disability waiver of premium rider for $30,357 on a planned premium amount of $13.00 with me listed as the insured and signed by me. Then on July 10th, 2019 a modification of the life insurance document indicating the coverage amount was changed to $23,624 also said to be signed by me.

Over a few phone calls with the Investigator to give her more information I learned that not only was policy was taken in my name and my signature forged, but my little sister and her kids too. To this day I don't know who signed our signatures. The last I heard from the internal investigator was September of last year saying the investigation was ongoing and they would need a statement from my father to continue the investigation. Of course, the couldn't reach him so the investigation came to a standstill and I haven't heard from anyone.

I and my little sister hardly have a relationship with our father. He had been calling us more and more often saying he wanted to get an insurance policy with us as the beneficiaries. He eventually wore us down and one day I gave him my personal information that he did not have like SS over the phone (I believe the agent was there with him). I was under the impression I would be a beneficiary. I did not agree to or want to get a policy as an insured person making him the beneficiary. I would never do that.

I cried a lot and got into a huge argument with my dad. I don't know even know him well enough to know if this is something he would be capable of doing on purpose. He says he didn't forge my signature, he doesn't know who they payor is, or why he is the beneficiary. I didn't believe him.

Around the same time, I contacted my state department of insurance who sent me the statement of the company and of the soliciting agent.

They Statements from the soliciting agent which made me very frustrated and confused. I didn't know whose fault this was now. Here is a quote from his statement:

"...asked me if he could purchase insurance for his daughters. I told him he could and that all that I needed was her information and signature to start the application process. He had called her and told her her what he planned to do. As she was giving him the information on the phone I was typing it into the tablet. I did tell him that I would be needing to go by later at her convenience for her to sign, After the call I have him my tablet to sign as the owner. At the time of submitting the application I honestly forgot to go and get his daughter signature and was able to process the application . It was a truly honest mistake on my part."

So I was left not knowing who forged my signature. My dad or the agent.

They did of course close the account and cut me a check for the premiums, which I don't even know if I should cash this money wasn't mine as I was not the payor but they check was in my name.

Any advice would be great. Is this fraud, if so who's to blame? What should I do next? What do I do with this check as it expires soon?

I'm working as an contractor. I found my Employer is canceling health insurance when not on project.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 05:54 PM PDT

I'm in California, where I'm accepted work to as a contractor with a staffing company. My project recently ended and I wanted to use the downtime for some doctor visits before I found a new project through the employer. What I found was my insurance was canceled as soon as my project ended and upon checking was told I will only be added back when starting on a new project. This company is basically an Indian software sweatshop so I shouldn't really be surprised by this behavior. Is this legal? (I would leave in a heartbeat but they hold my employment authorization and they know I don't have the flexibility to leave for another employer immediately)

    Hail damage insurance overpayment.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 04:51 PM PDT

    Hail damage insurance overpayment.

Hi. I own a commercial building that recently went through some hail damage.

Insurance adjuster came out and said that they would pay for an entire new roof for a cost of about 40k

I had a roofing company come out and look at it. I thought it was a local company but it turned out to not be local. Anyways, after looking at the roof the guy didn't really give me answer about what he thought and just mentioned seeing some chalk marks on the roof and asked what insurance said. He said he'd fix it for whatever insurance said they would pay. I sent him over a copy of what insurance said they would pay for and he got back to me a couple weeks later with an estimate that was for what insurance would pay and there was a possibility of additional costs as well.

I wasn't super comfortable with that roofing company and from what I could see of my roof it didn't look that bad.

So I got a second opinion from another roofing company that is actually local and the first thing he said to me was that there wasn't much damage and a most of the damage was from wind. He tried to ask about what insurance would pay but I didn't really answer. I asked him how much it would cost to repair everything and he said about a thousand dollars. He also sent me pictures of the damage he saw.

I'm sure the insurance company wasn't trying to overestimate or anything because it's not in their interest to do so but they did send me a check for 40k when I believe I can get everything fixed for a thousand dollars.

Is there anything illegal with me getting the roof fixed but not replaced and holding onto the extra 39k?

Can Someone Rate and Help Me Understand this Coverage/Price?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 04:15 PM PDT

I am on my parent's plan and will be paying only $135.50/month for auto insurance (the car is a 2008 CADI STS and I am 23 YO).

Pretty sure I can't beat this coverage and price, but want your advice and also to help me understand the numbers.. sometimes I see in coverage they do "100/300" and that is sort of the minimum. How do I decipher that terminology from mine?

Looking for some advice after having two very unfortunate accidents in a two month span.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:29 PM PDT

The first accident was a hit and run on the expressway, unfortunately that driver did not stop. That being said, I had to go through my insurance and the vehicle was graded a total loss. Last week, I got into another accident. This time I rear ended a semi truck trailer after a car got onto the expressway, erratically changing lanes with no turning signal. With it being an SUV, it obscured my view of the semi trucks brake lights and didn't have enough time to stop. The semi did not sustain any damage, but I just got a call from the shop that was putting together the estimate and it came out to a bit over 13k. I purchased the vehicle a month ago for $9.5k. The repair estimate is substantially more than the value of the car and I'm 90% sure it's going to be a total loss. On the plus side, the car was an 09 and I found out that in my shitty state of IL I can owner retain. I plan to call the shop back Monday morning to find out what kind of damage added up to the 13k figure. I'm assuming that there was some kind of damage to the frame. In conclusion, I know that my insurance is going to skyrocket because of these two accidents in such a short span. Insurance is not my expertise and wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on some options I can possibly look into to get a lower rate (if at all possible). TiA!

    New car insurance companies

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 11:32 PM PDT

Looking to replace old insurance because it has become too expensive, I'm looking at these app base / techie car insurance companies, and their quotes are pretty low but don't know how good they are. The current 3 option is Root Insurance, Metromile, and Clearcover. Trying to gather some info from people who have tried them before. If you have others you can suggest that would be great too. A lot of people are telling me to stick with the big companies.

    2020 equinox fixable or totaled?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 10:06 PM PDT

My bf crashed my brand new car last week. I'm still waiting for the insurance to get back to me but I fear they're going to try to fix it. Both front airbags were deployed the front and side of car was damaged and the fuel tank as well.

The auto place said it had about 12k in damages.

I'm just curious if they do fix the car will it be the same? I mean will the warranty still be intact? Will I be able to trade it in at a fair value?

Or is fixing it dooming me to be underwater on a car the next 6 years?

Our parked car was hit a week ago and is un-drivable. Their insurance is now saying because 4 cars were involved we should use our own insurance to cover repairs?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 02:30 PM PDT

The "accident": we live on a narrow road and our car was parked on the street, legally. Cars tried to pass each other and one of them ended up hitting several cars on the street, including ours. Lots of cosmetic damage and our back wheel was knocked in, making it undriveable. We got it towed.

Now: after waiting for a week to hear from their insurance, the insurance has finally accepted liability but are saying we should go through our own insurance to cover repairs. We still don't even have a rental and are beyond frustrated.

How should we navigate this? The car was relatively new to us and in pristine condition, with brand new tires and wheels put on it last fall. We don't want to shell out for an accident that was not our fault and certainly can't afford it. Is this actually standard procedure?

    Thanks for any help!

Driver swerved into our lane, mirrors collided - her insurance declined claim

Trying to figure out what my options are.

Two lane road. Driver swerved into our lane and the mirrors collided. Both vehicles had the mirror ripped off. I called her insurance to file a claim and they are telling me she does not have coverage... The police report lists her insurance and and policy #, so how can she not have coverage? What are my options to get my mirror fixed without having to pay MY $1000 deductible?

Can I go around my broker to talk to an agent

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 05:44 PM PDT

    I am in Ontario, Canada.

I have not long started a new home and auto policy with Aviva...

    But though a broker...

Long story short... On the effective day of the policy the broker called urgently to ask if we could have an electrical inspection (aluminum wiring). Or if we would be willing to get one in 60 days.

We do have an inspection from two years ago when we bought the house. And.... In January 2020 we replaced all lights, switches and outlets by a licsenced electrician. I provided the invoice to the broker.

She called me yesterday to see if we have had an inspection. Bear in mind we have been insured and paying for two months now.

I asked of the invoice of the work was enough and she said she would send it "again"... Which makes me feel she never sent it in the first place. I also feel she missed the inspection request in the first place. We'll I know she did because she apologised in an email.

So... I asked for the details of the actual person at aviva. So I could talk to them. She said "legally" she is the only licensed person I can talk to.

Seems like nonsense? My policy documents have Aviva on them and so do my bank statements. She is the broker but surely she's taken her cut from securing the policy.

    Any advice appreciated.

I'd be more than happy to have an inspection if... It had been mentioned in the quote. Like other companies... Or... If we had never had one or hadn't literally had every electrical. outlet replaced 6months ago. Hence I'm reluctant to pay for a costly inspection.

    At fault car accident inquiry

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 05:24 PM PDT

Hey guys, need some advice here.

Today, I was in a small car crash driving around NYC. The car in front of me was turning left on a green, and I tried to get around him on the right side. As I turned into that lane, the car behind me rushed past and scraped the driver side of his car against the front corner of my passenger side. I checked my mirror before turning, but only had my turn signal on for about a second before moving, and the guy was in my blind spot.

We pulled over, and I panicked a little and agreed not to file a police report. I exchanged contact information with the other driver, and provided my own insurance papers. I (still panicking,) forgot to ask for the other drivers insurance information.

They called me about twenty minutes later and said their mechanic gave them an estimate of 1500$. I am not sure whether or not to call my insurance company (StateFarm,) since I am still on my parents plan (recently turned 21.)

I think I am at fault, but not 100% sure. I don't want to file a claim because I am not sure how much my insurance rates will go up, but since I am a young driver and was driving out of state, I don't know how much it might go up by. I am currently trying to get in contact with my parents, who own the plan and login info, but they are out of service range for a little while and I am not sure when they might get back.

Any tips, reddit? Feeling pretty scared and stressed out, right now.

UHC denied claim, said hospital should not bill me

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 04:14 PM PDT

I went to the emergency room for chest pain and was diagnosed with air around my heart and in my chest after doing a CT and esophogram. I stayed at the hospital for a total of about 2.5 days based on physician recommendation and what I was told for observation. I got a letter in the mail from UHC saying they are denying the claim because they deemed the stay not medically necessary after a certain point. They said the hospital should not bill me for the services provided and to call if they do. Does anyone have experience with this? Am I going to be billed a huge amount anyway and just have to pay it? Everything was in network and I see the claim listed as in-process for $22,194 on myuhc. Any advice or people who have had this situation happen to them please let me know. Thank you!

Had car insurance for 7 years, moved to NYC and got rid of it... gonna need it again, and more. What's my move?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 02:31 PM PDT

Hey all. I had car insurance with Geico for 7 years in LA and then moved to NYC pre-pandemic where I got rid of it, since I have no car. Well, I'm moving back west again (not to LA, maybe Portland) and I'm gonna need the full suite of insurance (outside of Health Insurance)..

I'm gonna want car insurance, renters insurance (will be renting a house) and I also have a lot of collectibles that I want to insure (ideally for the move, but mostly for when I land at my new destination) -- I'm talking over 100 grand worth of collectibles.

What is the best move? Can I wipe them all out in one fell swoop and get a good deal to do a full sweep? I'm kinda lost here and I don't want to get taken. Do I stick with Geico? Go with another company? Go with multiple? Any advice is appreciated.

Please help me to understand the total loss breakdown. Who will responsible for the remaining loan balance?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 01:44 PM PDT

I got involved into a rear-end collision last month, my car was totaled. The other driver at fault 100%. My car still has roughly $1,014.54 to be paid off. And this is the total loss breakdown from my insurance:

    TOTAL LOSS FIGURES BREAKDOWN:
    COMPANY RETAINED VALUES
    $13,097.00
Deduction for xx% of Prior Damage $0.00
    Net Actual Cash Value: $13,097.00
    Tax: (owned vehicles) $1,211.47
    Tax: (leased vehicles) $0.00
VLF Refund & Title Transfer Fee: $65.00
    Total: $14,373.47
    Deductible: $1,000.00
    DEDUCTION FOR MISSING KEYS: $0.00
    LESS INELIGIBLE ADVANCED CHARGES: $0.00
    LESS PRIOR-ISSUED CLEARED PAYMENT $0.00
    TOTAL: $13,373.47
PARTIAL PAYMENT (POSITIVE EQUITY) ISSUED (YES/NO): YES
    AMOUNT: $12,358.93
    PAYEE (OWNER/LIENHOLDER): OWNER

FINAL PAYMENT (UPON TITLE TRANSFER PAPERWORK BEING RECEIVED): YES
    AMOUNT: $1,014.54
    PAYEE (OWNER/LIENHOLDER): LH

According to the total loss breakdown, The amount above $1,014.54 is the remaining balance to pay off my auto loan and the total reimbursement is $14,373.47 (ACV + Taxes + Tittle Fees)

I got 2 claim paychecks from them, the first one is $1000 for the deductible reimbursement since the other driver at fault, and the 2nd paycheck is $12,358.93 .

    In total, I got $1000 + $12,358.93 = $13,358.93

The amount $13,358.93 is also equal to: the total reimbursement $14,373.47 - $1,014.54 remaining loan balance.

It means the insurance will take my car as well as take responsible to pay off the loan?

Who will response for the loan balance in this case? The insurance or me?

However, it has been more than a month and the amount $1,014.54 remaining balance auto loan is still showing in my account. I called the bank to confirm a couple days ago, they told me there is no settlement proceed has been started yet.How long will it take to get the settlement processed done?

I want to make sure my name is cleared out of the auto loan before the next due date payment comes.

    Employer didn't cancel my insurance

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 06:41 AM PDT

So I lost my job in March due to CoVid, and per our Union, they kept our insurance active until the end of May. It was supposed to be cancelled as of June 1.

When I went to refill my prescriptions, I just had them delivered to the house and it wasn't until after the fact that I realized the price should have been higher, prompting me to investigate, only to realize that my job never actually cancelled my insurance.

I know I need to call them and let them know they made this error, but my friend told me that they could charge me with insurance fraud for using it. Is that true? Can they try to charge me for the employee paid portion of the plan, even though it was their mistake?

    Car got hit in CA.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 12:17 PM PDT

So this is the first time I've ever been in an accident. My neighbor hit my car and took responsibility.

It was just a little damage so he asked if he could just pay cash rather than go through insurance. He's my neighbor so I trust him. I got three estimates and the cheapest was $1,900 so we decided to go through insurance.

I just filed the claim and Allstate (his company) sent me an estimate of $1,700 and sent me money to my bank account.

    So questions:

    1. I'm not sure if I can actually find a repair shop that will do the repair for $1,700 but I know Allstate will cover the additional cost if necessary.
    2. If for some reason I find a shop that will do it for $1,500, can I pocket the extra $200?
    3. Anything else I need to know?

New Homeowner - roof insurance claim denied twice

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:31 AM PDT

tl;dr Minnesota had a hail storm, had several roof inspectors tell us there was damage. Insurance sent 2 adjusters and said damage wasn't within last year, no functional damage from a storm within our policy period. Contractor says we should go to the appraisal process and that roofing company will pay 100% of appraisal. Will we become uninsurable or dropped by our insurance company? Is there any reason not to do this if it's free to us (apparently?)

    Long version:

Mid summer of this year in Minnesota, a hail storm passed through the city where we live. In the coming days we had several free roof inspector companies come out and tell us that there was damage to our roof, gutters and windows. We decided to go with "Roofing Company" and put in an insurance claim (a very large insurance company). The contractor from this company mentioned they already had numerous people approved in the area through this same company.

Our insurance adjuster gave us a call and let us know that they were calling in emergency back up adjuster because they'd had so many claims in this area of hail damage. Our insurance company sent out a 3rd party who determined there was not sufficient functional damage to approve the claim. We decided to ask for a second inspection, insurance sent out an engineering company who specialize in property investigations (fire, water, etc.). We received a 10 page report explaining the conditions of the storms in July, the NOAA report, evidence of damage of another possible storm which happened outside of our policy period, and no functional damage from the July storm (though dents all around our house were noted).

The contractor from Roofing Company reviewed the 2nd report and stated that he and his supervisor do not believe Nationwide is acting in good faith, basically saying the storm never happened (and that there was a storm from a different date). The Roofing Company suggest that there is enough damage to win at appraisal, and mention in these situations, they offer to pay half of the fees. In this case, they are willing to cover the entire cost.

We are concerned we will have to agree to purchase a new roof regardless of the appraisal results, and secondly, we are afraid our insurance company will drop us and/or we will become uninsurable.

Could anyone speak to our last few concerns? Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Will renter’s insurance cover my personal items stolen from my business office?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 11:13 AM PDT

My business office in California got broken into last week, really the last thing I need during this time :(. The thieves mostly stole my personal items there, they probably weren't interested in the business's inventory. Those were personal hobby related stuff I brought to the business just that week so I could tinker with them since workdays have been light lately. Business only has liability insurance so I'm counting on my renter's, but I'm worried some technicality might be used to disqualify my claim since my possessions weren't at home. Any tips on how to avoid gotchas and hopefully avoid further heartache? Thanks.

The thing is, if I list my car as worth £5,000 rather than £10,000, the insurance price drops to £750 for the year

Would the insurance company catch on to this and cancel my insurance?
