Hospital sent a bill to collections after I paid it

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:37 PM PDT

After an ER visit last year, I got a bill that was thousands of dollars higher than it was supposed to be under my plan. After months of phone calls to the hospital and my insurance company, my insurance finally escalated it properly and paid their portion. As soon as I got my corrected bill, last month, I paid it in full.

I got a letter that they sent the debt to a collections agency. How do I start fixing this?

I'm in New Jersey, if it matters.

Question for claims assistants and managers

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 02:17 AM PDT

If I have a car insurance claim can the insurer's claims assistant see or access my previous claims information including medical reports etc from years ago for say Workcover insurance? Does the system show my name and previous claims history ? I realise they have to request access but I wondered if they can see it?

    Are public adjusters worth it?

Sorry for the ambiguity; my house has some missing shingles and 2 water spots on my living room ceiling from Hurricane Sally. Would it be worth hiring a public adjuster for this?

Moved to a new state with a car I’m not keeping

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 07:00 AM PDT

Hi guys. I just moved from New York to Florida. The car that I drive is being paid off by my dad and he is the owner of the car. I am listed as a driver on his insurance. I do not plan to keep this car in the longterm but until I get a job and get settled etc my dad says I can drive it. I do live in Miami and I see a LOT of NY drivers all around and in my parking garage.

However I'm officially changing my address on my New York State unemployment to my new FL apartment and I wanted to get an FL license to vote. But I'm worried about being pulled over with NY plates and registration and an FL license. Does anyone know if this is common in south Florida for people to keep their plates but have an FL license? Or should I just not get a license yet? I know it's technically required right away but I know a few ppl who've told me they didn't do it right away.

First to file a car insurance claim

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:43 PM PDT

My colleague said that after an accident, whoever files an insurance claim first has an advantage as they can manipulate the story on how it happened. Is there any truth to this ?

    Joint Car Insurance

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 07:34 PM PDT

I co-signed for a friend for a car. Only he will be driving it. Do I need to be included on his policy regardless? Or can I be excluded? We both live in the same house (He rents a room from me and my wife).

    Thanks!

    Laptop insurance with USAA

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 07:06 PM PDT

    Location: Mississippi, USA.

I wanted to share my experience using my renter's insurance with USAA in hopes it will help someone else! I rent a home, and have renters insurance plus a rider on the insurance that covers my laptop. Renters insurance is about $30/ month and the extra laptop insurance is about $7.50 a month. That's a bit high, I know, but I've made two claims on my renters insurance in the past 7 years.

I spilled liquid on my laptop a few nights ago. It's a 2015 MacBook Air. Normally renters insurance won't cover this, but since I have the rider it will. The laptop would briefly turn on but wouldn't stay on.

So I took it by the repair shop and asked for a diagnostic. I told them that I was pretty sure it was totaled and the only reason I brought it in was so that they could write a statement saying that it was B.E.R. Or beyond economic repair. Just a fancy way of saying it's totaled.

Then I called up my insurance. I knew I had a $250 deductible but insurance would cover replacement after that. The first agent I spoke with asked lots of details about the laptop (storage? Gigs? Ram? I don't speak laptop lol) and couldn't figure out how much to say it was worth and debated between $500 and $900. I paid $1,300 for it.

So I pulled a HUCA. The next agent I spoke with looked up the price on the Apple website, told me that after the deductible I would get $1,099 (he even threw in a bit extra for taxes!) and told me the money would deposit in my account within three days.

I ever even had to show them diagnostic report or prove the make, model, or year of the laptop.

Tl;dr — spilled water on my laptop, called up insurance, got over 1k to replace it, never had to show any paperwork.

In network testing provider, but out of network test reader.

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:03 AM PDT

I went to an in network provider for tests. I am now getting bills from an out of network company who read the tests.

I now owe everything above what the insurance company pays. That's thousands of dollars.

This stinks. Legal? Yes. But, if a test is done in network, the stinking reading of that test should be as well. Just venting.

How many times can you insure a home/dog kinda of an odd situation?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 06:27 PM PDT

I posted here maybe like a month ago about insuring a dog via homeowners and or private due to her being a half doberman.

My question my significant other and I are not married. I am buying a house hopefully soon. Am I able to get my own insurance dealing with the dog then she does for the house and dog as well.

    2 parts

Can we both have separate insurance policies covering the dog?

Also can she also get renters insurance since technically I will be the only name on the deed? Will she have to show rent to me? And if so can it be like 10 bucks?

    Worried about denied dental claim

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:25 PM PDT

    Hi,

So here is the thing that kept bugging me at night and I could use any kind of insight to calm my nerves.

I'm on Aetna DMO and this plan requires you to choose a primary care dentist (PCD) so you can go to only one provider at a time.

Got some major work done last couple of months, everything was going well and I was waiting to get my crowns delivered. But before I received them, not knowing it will affect my coverage, I changed my PCD.

And now they denied my claims for the crowns because I was not assigned to this specific provider when I got them.

I sent an appeal to Aetna saying that

    1. I wasn't aware that the receive date was needed for the claim.
    2. Since the new PCD goes into effect the 1st day of the next month,(Sept 1st in this case) I thought I'd be covered by my current PCD til then. (PCD changed: Aug 13th. Crowns Delivered: Aug 24th)
    3. I'm just so damn poor because the times are hard and can't afford to pay 100% of the cost out of pocket.

Is there any chance I can get this overturn? It just hurts me to think I'll have to pay more than $1000 because of I changed my PCD just 10 days too early.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Cross-state Insurance

Statefarm Account and App only show my insurance

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 04:45 PM PDT

    Hello,

So when I login to either the app or the website, under insurance only my car shows up, not my wife's. We had to make an account for her, and her account only shows her car. I bought the policy over the phone through an agent, and my account shows the payment plan for both. Is there a reason I can't see both policies through my account?

Lying about your No Claims Bonus?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:24 PM PDT

Do insurance companies have a central register or check the validity of NCB beyond accepting the cert you send them from your previous company. It just seems fairly simple that you could say scan the cert and edit the 1 year to be say 5 years and have full no claim discount . I imagine a good few people driving around with no insurance are justifying it to themselves by saying that insurance is too expensive. I find it hard to believe some of them dont get one years ncb at the expensive rate then just lie to get cheap inurance. Also what are the consequences if they were to find out?

Can I change car on a policy that I have claimed on?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 01:15 PM PDT

    hi everyone

need some help with this as I have looked online and can't find an answer. So I had an at fault accident where I lost control and the car was a write off (no 3rd party involved) and i claimed on my policy, now I'm looking for insurance policy on a potentially new car and the prices on comparison website are quite expensive. I was curious and looked on my current policy to change car and it only costs me the admin fee to change car £20. I know I won't get the NCB for this year but it is cheaper than buying insurance now when it would be a lot lower in a years time as there is still 9 months left on that policy. my question is can I change cars on a policy I have claimed on or do I need to start a new policy? Thanks

    Recent car accident

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:47 AM PDT

Hi, this is my first post here so I apologize if I missed any information that might be needed or if the post is kind of all over the place.

So recently I was in a car accident that was not caused by me. I have filed a claim through the insurance of the person who hit me and they just got back to me on Friday saying that my car was totaled. I have been driving a rental car for the past week and a half. My rep says that the rental car has to go back Monday but I haven't received any paperwork about my settlement. I won't have a car to drive to work and won't have any money from the settlement for at least a week because I need to dispute the amount they are trying to settle for. My rep isn't very good at contacting me and I just assume it's because he is busy. I need a car to get back and forth and my insurance doesn't cover rentals. Is there any way I can get the insurance company to provide me with a rental until I get my settlement or new car? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: I am located in South Carolina. The accident also happened in this state.

I was charged for an out-of-network provider visit without being told he was out of network

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:02 AM PDT

I know, I should've checked and that's on me, but please bear with me.

I had seen this therapist several times through 2019 (when he was still in network,) and I needed his help again in 2020 so I called the office to schedule an appointment with him. When making the appointment, they confirmed all my details and asked if I still had the same insurance, I said yes and we moved on. No mention was made about him not being in network anymore.

I contacted the office administrator, and she admitted in writing through e-mail that they "...are having credentialing issues, and are trying to solve with [my] insurance."

If they were to charge me for this visit as out-of-network due to their error and failure to inform me, how should I proceed?

I was thinking that perhaps I could ask them to charge me as they would if he was in network given that they didn't inform me and that they are, allegedly, having credentialing issues. Would this be reasonable of me to ask?

If not, should I just foot the $250 bill?

Thank you for any help with this!

    Car totaled last night SC

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:13 AM PDT

Currently at the dr office getting X-rays. I've started the claims process last night and just wanted to see what else I should do. The other driver was listed as contributing to the accident while I was not. Also I do have photos of the accident and will be uploading them shortly to my insurance. Am I missing anything?

I didn’t find out that my physical therapist wasn’t in network any longer until a month after treatment.

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:23 AM PDT

State is TN. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but figured it might be a good place to start.

I had orthopedic surgery in January. Surgery was followed by roughly five months of PT. My physical therapist is someone that I worked with for about three months last year, and at that point she was in network.

During the five months I worked with this facility, I was never told that her contract with my insurance ended on 12/19/2019, and had not been renewed. I also didn't receive a single bill from the provider until a month after my treatment ended. That's when the $5k bill came in.

I spoke to BCBS of MA. (My employer is based in MA, so that's who my insurance is through.) They said it's the provider's responsibility to inform me they aren't in network. I spoke to the provider, and they took $2k off my bill. This still leaves me with a $3k bill that I wasn't planning for. Am I just stuck with this, and need to pony up? Is there anything else I should do before that? Any advice is welcome.
