Girlfriend dumped me Sunday, paid off the rest of my students loans today. Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:21 AM PDT The last few days have been a whirlwind of emotions as I was suddenly dumped by my girlfriend in the middle of a global pandemic. After a bit of tossing and turning in bed to cope with the sadness, l went online at 3AM and submitted a payment to pay off my final $2k in debt. I turn 24 in November and had a total of $22k in debt from my undergraduate university. Hopefully this post motivates you to keep chipping away at the mountain no matter what life throws at you! Onward and upward, my friends. EDIT: I paid off the loans, not my ex 😂 [link] [comments] |
My loans are driving me to suicide. Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:08 PM PDT I'm exhausted. I'm doing everything right. Have a job I love that pays well for my field. Living with the rents to pay down my loans ASAP. I should be doing okay. Except my family is abusive. I used to be okay. I lived on my own during college. Had an apartment. And I was fine. I've been home nine months and I just pulled all my pills on the table and sat there fantasizing about taking them all. I can't afford to move out. I've budgeted and scrimped and saved and run the numbers a thousand times. Even with minimum loan payments, the shittiest apartment, with roommates. I still come up short. I'm on medication for mental health. I exercise regularly, have a psychiatrist and a therapist and I eat right. And I just don't know if I can do this. TLDR I live at home because I can't afford to move out with my loan payments and my family is abusive and I'm borderline suicidal. [link] [comments] |
How long does it take for my school to receive my student loan Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:43 PM PDT So My student loan were just accepted and I was wondering how long does it usually take for federal parent plus loan to disburse to the school? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:02 PM PDT Hey guys. I'm drowning in student loans from some poor financial decisions when it came to the undergraduate school that I picked. At its peak my loans totaled 107k, a number I can't even comprehend. I've been living at home after college and throwing everything at my loans. My number today is about 88k. I planned on staying at home for another 7-8 months. I would say I could save and throw an extra 11k during this time period if I didn't move out. However, I'm struggling working remotely. Something about living at the house I grew up in saps my motivation and is preventing me from growing. It feels like I'm waiting for my life to start rather than living in it, if that makes sense. My progress at work is slowing and I feel like it's being noticed. Is it smart to move out with this much debt? [link] [comments] |
Mygreatlakes repayment plan changed? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:51 AM PDT With the extension for the student loan 0% interest rate and suspension of payments until Dec. 31st 2020. I noticed my account repayment options on MyGreatLakes changed. It was previously on IDR, but now I'm being shown that I owe the full amount now. I assume this will change back to IDR the closer to the due date it get? It did this before when the whole Covid thing happened and changed back to IDR just a few months ago. I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else and if I should do anything about it. Many thanks. [link] [comments] |
Reached my 150% limit in community college, Should I take out a private loan? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:06 PM PDT I basically bombed my first two semesters of community college, I got back on track, retook those classes, did much better. Well I have only 5 classes left and I am at my 150% limit they allow for credits to be taken, meaning FASFA wont support me anymore. I'm at a loss of what to do and keep hearing nothing, but scary things about using private loans. [link] [comments] |
What is a reasonable graduate student loan interest rate? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:22 PM PDT As the post title suggests, I'm about to start my MBA and am trying to understand what my best student loan rate options are. The total investment is $35k and I'm looking to repay the loan as fast as possible. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How do I refinance my student loans better? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:19 PM PDT I have something like $80k in loans from Sallie Mae right now at an AVG APR of %8.25. That is not even the end of the student loan debt, just the most present concern. How do I refinance these loans better? I've been using Credible to find student loan refinancing options but I feel like I have to be missing something. Interest rates are low now and the best I can find are between %4.5-5 (are those good?). I have a decent job in the a STEM field and I live within my means as much as possible right now(No credit card debt, car loans, or anything like that). What resources do you have? Be my hero. Are student loans disbursed to the school or me? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:27 PM PDT So my parent just recently applied for a Parent PLUS Direct loan and we haven't seen any changed to the bills I'm supposed to pay for this semester. So, I was just wondering whether the loans will be disbursed to the school, in which case they will edit the bill we're supposed to pay. Or are the loans disbursed to my parent and then we'll take the money and pay the school bill directly. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:53 PM PDT How long does it take to see a bump in score? My rehab should be done in December. After that, we plan to consolidate and pursue PSLF [link] [comments] |
Variable vs. Fixed Interest Plan? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:45 PM PDT I'm applying for a loan through Sallie Mae, and I can either choose a variable 7% interest rate or a 8.875% fixed rate over 108 months. My loan is for $13k (to cover cost of living mostly) and while those rates are pretty close, and fixed rates are generally safer, there's a significant difference between how much I end up paying by the end of the loan with each rate. How likely would it be for the variable rate to drop with everything that's going on? [link] [comments] |
Can I get a US federal student loan for Open University in the UK? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:42 PM PDT I'm quite clueless when it comes to university and student loans as I've only recently decided to further my education. I've looked high and low for an answer for this, but I can't find it I can get a loan for Open University. And if not, I'm not sure how to finance my education. Thank you so much for any advice! Question about parents helping pay off loan Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:49 AM PDT My parents were not co-signers to my grad school loans, but are offering to help pay them off. Could I just plug their bank account information in to repay the loan? I'm looking to avoid gift taxes and the amount is much greater than the $15K annual exception per parent. Not sure if it matters, but I am still in grad school and do not plan on taking anymore loans moving forward. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:19 AM PDT I'm not giving up and this could be a long shot . I'm wanting to reapply for borrower of defense. Would anyone have 2015 brochures or papers for University of Phoenix that shows high job numbers for students . I need anything at this point .I'm trying to come up with better evidence. Anything is appreciated [link] [comments] |
Seeking options for smaller payments on private student loans Posted: 02 Sep 2020 02:14 PM PDT I have three separate private student loans through Sallie Mae that I took out (without any comprehension of how loans actually work or what an interest rate even was), I took out a total close to 54,000 for three years of schooling, but with 11-12% interest rates that has ballooned to around 147,000. The payments are over 1400 a month, I've been making them, late but making them all while also still attending school ( I had some life events break up my academic career) so I have not completed my undergraduate just yet. Due to some medical debt as well as this large student loan payment that even as someone making above minimum wage I am struggling to make, my credit score is beginning to drop as well causing some difficulty in finding refinance options so I can at least make some smaller payments. I am not looking for any sympathy just some solutions that maybe I haven't found yet in my searches and efforts to refinance this huge sum that is weighing on my budget. Any suggestions to "get a higher paying job" or to "pay off my other debt" or any of these band aid solutions that do not address the issue that is presently being addressed are not necessary. I am just looking for any other resources or possible solutions I could explore to get my payments to something manageable and sane. [link] [comments] |
Should I pay off my student loans ASAP since there’s no interest until next year? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:06 AM PDT I have $16,500 left in student loans. Is it smart for me to pay it off while there's no interest? I live at home and don't have an substantial bills with a corporate job. What all should I consider before paying it all off? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Private Loan Forbearance extended or naw? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:26 AM PDT I know federal loan forbearance was extended but my private loans are now asking for payment that I can't provide. Has there been an act to extend those as well until DEC31? I'm sorry I've been trying to keep up but I'm trying work like 3 jobs and it's really hard to stay up and read about this online. Parent Loans - any way to forgive? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:23 AM PDT I have $80k in parent loans from helping my 3 kids through college. They can't help pay. I'm 66, have a decent income, and don't plan to retire for 4-5 years. Is there anyway to unsaddle myself from these loans, or am I just stuck for the rest of my life? Edit: Nelnet [link] [comments] |
Question about Paying on Principal Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:24 PM PDT I recently graduated dental school and I am getting ready to move. We are selling our condo and will have a large chunk of money from that. My question is, if I take that and pay it towards my principal of student loans, will that make my overall monthly payments lower, or does it just shorten the length of my repayment period? I am currently in my grace period, plus covid has made interest and payments stop until January anyway, I am just trying to figure out if it would actually lower my monthly payments compared to what I am estimating I will need to pay anyway. I am with Nelnet, not sure if that makes a difference, I just know it is hard to communicate with a human on their website, once I hear from you guys I will obviously try and contact someone there to verify. Just trying to plan ahead. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:02 AM PDT I applied to consolidate my fed loans through the federal government about 3 weeks ago. I know it usually takes about two months for the approval process. But I logged into Navient and saw that no federal payment is due this month. I know I haven't been approved yet because my status still says Sent on the fed site. Is this just an administrative forbearance while they get everything in order? [link] [comments] |
Navient says my loan is "commercial" Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:48 AM PDT Navient has been bothering me for a payment. I called them today and asked them why I have to call them when student loan payments are paused through the end of the year. The lady said my loans are "commercial" and that doesn't apply to them. I got these loans the same way I got the FedLoan loans and they aren't requesting payment. My Navient loans aren't private, so how are they different from the FedLoans? [link] [comments] |
