Posted: 04 Sep 2020 03:39 PM PDT Long story short, a few weeks ago someone backed into my parked car so hard they knocked my car onto the median and then fled the scene and their car around 3 am. The maintenance crew of the apartment complex called the police and they impounded the abandoned car and noted the incident all before I was even awake. I got the police report a few days later stating that this other car backed into me and was found at fault and filed a claim against the owner of the vehicle (I don't have collision), who just happens to be insured under the same insurer as me. The agent covering my claim told me they would need to wait a period before forcing liability onto the other party as the owner of the vehicle has not responded so I waited for them to complete this process. The driver never responded and after waiting for weeks, the agent called me back today and told me he hasn't been able to get into contact with the police officer who filed the report. I was confused why they needed to speak with him and the agent stated they need to know how the officer determined liability with no one at the scene. I think its clearly obvious with my police report, the fact the other driver has not responded, the fact one car was abandoned, and that the car that was abandoned was still running but the agent has told me that they need a greater level of precision in the determination of liability, citing off examples such as details of of the impact, eye witnesses (which I do not have), etc. The agent went on to tell me that now, unless the officer responds and provides how he determined liability with a precision that meets their expectations, that they cannot force liability onto the other driver and they will not cover this (sorry for the confusion but since they are acting as my insurer and his insurer, they mean as his insurer I'm assuming since Im filing a claim agains this policy). I'm in the process of reaching out to the police officer now and waiting to hear back but honestly this whole process has gotten me frustrated. Now that both cars have been moved, I am worried that the officer's determination of liability will be deemed insufficient by my own insurance company (since again they cover both of us) and I'll be left fucked. Is there anything I'm missing here or do I just have to hope for the best? [link] [comments] |
How does Brinks Insure their load? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:17 PM PDT Canadian Insurance Broker: I am working on a file right now that I am having a bitch of a time finding coverage for a client of mine. She is a small time courier and will occasionally deliver small deposits for clients from their business to the bank. In those deposits there would be cash and cheques. She would not know the value as the deposits stay sealed. Small values though as these are small mom/pop shops. Obviously my title is an exaggeration compared to what my client does, but I have had wordings from the Commercial General Liability, Property & Cargo wordings all provide reasons for denials. Then I went the Hail Mary throw of trying the Surety department and that still came up empty. What have I not tried yet? Help! [link] [comments] |
I need advice on car insurance Posted: 05 Sep 2020 03:16 AM PDT I was looking at a car for 900£ but the insurance cost 2k£ a year but it cost so much to pay for im literally working just to pay for my car to get to work im essential working for free, i really need some advice what to do with a car (just for background im 18 and have just passed my test) [link] [comments] |
Has anyone used SmartMiles® by Nationwide for their car insurance? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:58 PM PDT What are the things you liked the most? What are the things you dislike? Am considering it since I drive less than 10K miles a year. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:27 AM PDT As the title said, I'm closing soon. My current auto insurance is with Geico so naturally I called them up to get a quote for home insurance and they gave me the quote from Traveler's. State Farm was recommended by a friend so I gave them a call and they can give me a lower rate on auto as well as home insurance as a bundle. This is my first home. It would make sense to go with the lower rates and I have no problem switching companies. Is there anything out of place in these quotes that I should be aware of? The purchase price is $510,000 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Traveler's https://imgur.com/a/FwqU0id State Farm https://imgur.com/a/gwe2iQD [link] [comments] |

How is diminished value determined and how do I know it’s a fair amount? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:22 PM PDT I am located in GA. I got into an accident over a month ago and they have yet to finish fixing my car. My insurance adjuster told me once my claim is closed to ask for diminished value. I don't want to be low balled (she told me not to except the first or even the second offer) but I know I probably won't get what I think is fair. Just want to have a reasonable expectation. My car is a 2018 Toyota Prius hatchback No previous accidents Other driver at fault 100% Damage estimate $7600 [link] [comments] |
My parked car hit by a DUI driver tonight Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:00 PM PDT Two weeks ago I purchased a new to me, used vehicle. I paid the car dealership $7000 for the down payment and took a loan out for the rest. If my car is totaled. Will the insurance pay me that 7000 that I gave as a down payment? They will cover what the car is estimated at, correct? So stressed about this. The guy hit a parked car that was parked next to me and damaged both sides of my vehicle. Just hoping it didn't affect anything internally. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
[California] Does Geico bodily injury liability coverage cover a passenger in your car? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 08:56 PM PDT If I am driving and am at fault in an accident, and a passenger in my car is injured, does the bodily injury coverage cover their medical expenses? The website just says "bodily injury liability pays damages for people injured or killed in an accident for which you are legally responsible." Not sure if they are only referring to the other car [link] [comments] |
My house got hit by lightning, will insurance cover this? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 12:02 PM PDT I've read some insurance companies may call it "an act of god" in order to not cover it. Electricity ran through my entire house (lightbulbs bursting, light switches flying off the wall) and our electric is completely out. It entered through the siding of our attic so we also have a giant hole in the side of our house. We've called the company and they said someone will reach out on Tuesday (yay 3 day weekend!). I'm in Texas, by the way. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 08:10 PM PDT My home survived a wildfire. 2 trailers left standing in a 50 home mobile home park. My insurance company told me today that they will hepa vac our mattresses. Does that seem like it's enough to clean it of smoke/chemical damage as well as rat droppings that occurred the last 10 days and will continue until they come out again in 5 more? I live in California [link] [comments] |
Long Term Disability Insurance Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:55 PM PDT Hi everyone! I've had a recent loss in vision with one of my eyes that concerns me. My father went blind about 15 years later then my current age. With the change I started to worry about my income and taking care of my family. I'm currently being tested for a long list of diseases and the thought came into my head, that if I came up positive for anything genetic, that I wouldn't be able to purchase insurance if it was guaranteed that I would lose sight. Is there anything wrong with me getting imsurance now, before I find out anything? Any recommendations or anything I should know before hand? Lastly, I'm currently in the military and will be out shortly. Will insurance companies factor any compensation of non-taxable, unrelated disability income I recieve? I have other issues as well lol. Thanks in advance. Edit: In the U.S., moving to FL in 4 months [link] [comments] |
Pet Care Insurance for Dog Walking Buisness Posted: 04 Sep 2020 03:14 PM PDT Hi guys, I'm trying to start a dog walking buisness (with hopes it'll grow into a dog care business) and I'm thinking about insurance. Do you know who offers good pet care insurance at a good price? I am a veteran so I was initially thinking USAA, but it seems that they only offer insurance for personal pets, not pet businesses. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

[Florida] Being gifted a car but intend on joining father's insurance plan Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:32 PM PDT For this, on the title, would my father need to be considered the "co-purchaser" for it to be in his name as well, since the insurance requires him to be part owner of the vehicle? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Other driver at fault, won't cooperate (Texas) Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:27 PM PDT Hey! I was hoping someone in this sub could give me some advice on how to proceed with my situation. On August 3rd someone backed into me in a parking lot. I got a picture of their ID (I realized later that all it was was an ID card, not a license), insurance info, and his contact info, but didn't call the cops because it was in a parking lot and nobody was injured (I later found out that cops probably wouldn't have came even if I called). His insurance is American Access Casualty. I've seen the reviews and BBB page and it's not good. The driver is dodging their calls and mine. Apparently this happens a lot with AAC and they will just end up denying the claim if they aren't ever able to get their insured's statement. My insurance company (Allstate) has already placed him at fault, but I'd REALLY rather not pay my deductible because I really don't have it available right now. What are my options? How is it legal for him to hit me then just ignore the insurance calls and it just goes away? How was he able to be insured if all he has is a ID card? My deductible for uninsured/underinsured motorist is half of my regular deductible so if I have to go through my insurance I'd rather wait until that would kick in. At what point does uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage apply, if at all? Sorry for all the questions, I've just never been in an accident where the other person just ignored reality like a child. Thanks in advance for all your help! [link] [comments] |
[Cal] 73F on Life support, Medicare almost at exceeded limit - Calpers issue Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:02 PM PDT Hi Everyone ! I'm posting this on behalf of to help out a family friend, and I believe they may have been told some misinformation. My friend recently had a serious heart attack and has been at a skilled nursing facility for almost 100 days(recently has been put on life support) and her Medicare will run out on the 10th. She does have secondary insurance through Calpers but they said since she cannot sign, they would deny the claim. They said they won't even deny it, but they wont accept it . We've been also talking to Tricare and will be sending over an preauth & an EOB . Husband is worried financially and was going to take her off life supper but their case manager said he's not really ready to let her go, and doesn't want him to base this off finances. Thanks in advance for everyone who replies and have a great weekend! Edit1: California per Locationbot request [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 04:46 PM PDT In Massachusetts For a bit of back story I've been living in this home for 6+ years and my landlord always said he had bad experience with tenants who had pets (previous tenants had farm pets and he had to redo the whole place). He's sold to his son now who has two dogs, a husky and an aussie. All I'd like is my aussie puppy. He said that his dogs don't count cause he's an owner and having tenants with pets would effect his home insurance. I have renters insurance and a sec deposit obviously. Does homeowners insurance really go up if tenants have pets and not the owner? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Using Xactimate to document belongings Posted: 04 Sep 2020 12:48 PM PDT Hey everyone. I would like to both learn how to use claims adjusting software like Xactimate and also spend some time one weekend to document personal belongings. I recently went hover my condo home owners policy and did things like add sewage backup coverage and make sure that I had sufficient coverage for liability and dwelling repairs. While going through this, I realized if I was going to spend a bit more each month over many years in insurance, that it would be well worth my time and mostly free to document the 80% most costly of my belongings. How should I go about doing this? Take a Udemy class or something and then just dive in? I took an actuarial exam a few years ago and it smoked me, and that's how I originally got interested in insurance. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 04:07 PM PDT I've been with USAA for almost a decade for car insurance, and have been on the hunt for health insurance... Well, today I learned that they offer comprehensive health insurance too. I'm shocked! Does anybody use them for health insurance, or know of their costs? [link] [comments] |
Can I speak to an insurance adjuster on behalf of someone else? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:14 AM PDT My boyfriend was in the middle of settling a claim with an insurance adjuster after a car accident. But he had to leave the country for his graduate program before they finished and is unable to make or receive international calls. He made this known to the adjuster before he left and never heard back about it. Can I speak to the adjuster on his behalf? I've tried calling the adjuster every day for the past week and he hasn't returned any of my calls. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:56 PM PDT For context, I'm a mom of an 11 month old. I'm married to a great guy. We are thinking of hiring a nanny a couple times a week while I get started in the industry. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:28 PM PDT My house recently had fire damage that occurred in the laundry room downstairs, and burned about a quarter of the downstairs area very badly. Insurance adjuster let us know that the damages could range anywhere from $70,000-140,000, but nothing is confirmed yet. My question is, the adjuster hasn't reached out to us in over 10 days now, and when I called to ask for an update, he instructed me that the insurance form we initially signed had our address entered incorrectly. So he is blaming the insurance company for taking a long time to reach out to him since they are looking into that right now. I asked if that has an impact on our coverage and he said he cannot say anything until the insurance company lets him know. My question is, could that potentially nullify our coverage? We paid for the insurance policy, gave the insurance brokerage all our information and for some reason they entered it incorrectly on the insurance form. Everything on the form is correct except the house number being off by one number. Please let me know if anyone has information in regards to my situation since I am completely lost since I found out this information, and now am left in the dark from both the insurance company and the adjuster until they "figure it out." EDIT: I am located in North Vancouver, BC, Canada. [link] [comments] |
