How do I ask for a collaboration?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:09 PM PDT

    SUMMARY:
So I [14M] am a musician who wants to collaborate with another musician [15F] but she has an agency (Vivid Management.) How can I get this to happen?

    MORE DETAILS

So I am a 14 year old musician. I've been playing piano and singing for 10 years. I've also been producing music for about 2 years now. A couple of months ago, I came across this TikToker. She seems pretty cool, but then on her Instagram I saw that she does music as well, which is a quick way to get my respect. She also plays piano and sings, but I can tell (no shade) I do have some more experience (she's mostly self taught but I've always had professional guidance. Her agency mainly reps her for her looks), BUT I really wanna help out a bit because I absolutely love seeing other people my age really into music. Anyway, here's the thing I'm kind of nervous about. She has 280K followers on TikTok and about 250K on Instagram. On the other hand, I have 517 Instagram followers. What they care about how big my following is even though I do have a lot to offer?

We live pretty close to each other too, I live in Houston and she's in San Antonio. Not the closest, but it's close enough. She travels to LA somewhat often too. The age difference is 13 months, which isn't much, especially for this. Based on some quick research, it does seem like her agency takes pride in other things their clients do. I was going to collaborate with this other TikToker and her agency wanted her to strictly do Instagram and TikTok videos (you know, those just normal pics) even though she's really good at guitar. At least I know this agency seems to take pride in their client's other talents.

But anyway, any advice on how to write this email? I know the agency probably reads these emails so it has to be REALLY good. What information should I put in, should I put some videos and links to music I've produced so they know I'm not just talking? I do sort of know one of her friends she talks to, but we've only talked like once or twice. She does know I do music and she likes it, I sang happy birthday for one of her friends on her story because I was bored. But any advice so I can get the best outcome? I think we can both grow from this

    New Business Major Here.

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:20 PM PDT

As an current freshman and business major in college, I've began to notice business majors being the butt of every joke in college. My friends who are medical and engineering majors and a few upperclassmen always tell me how easy it is to be a business major, how I do zero work, and that my degree is useless and how I won't make any money. It's gotten to the point where I've been seriously upset and close to just crying. I feel so small and angry after. I just want to burst out yelling at them. They are constantly saying all these things about it. I'm just so angry. I want to try to use this anger toward studying and investing, etc. What should I do? Am I wrong to be angry or bothered by this? Are they right?

I don't know. Just something to get off my chest. Sorry if this post doesn't belong in this subreddit.

Can I open another personal checking account for my llc?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:37 PM PDT

I am about to start a small home-based business - I was wondering if there are any consequences of opening a separate personal checking account as opposed to a separate business checking account? I bank with Chase.

Unregistered LLC on Contract? Plz Help..

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 07:30 PM PDT

    Hello all!

So.. Question. I've been doing marketing for small companies for awhile now. I also own some online brands. I live in Los Angeles.

Back in November 2019, I got into contact with this mattress store to do marketing. I realized that nobody is working with mattress stores so I thought "Hell, nobody is working with them, I'm going to create an entire marketing company for mattress stores. How hard could it be to sell a mattress online?"

Long story short I put on the contract what I was going to name my LLC for this venture. I was going to pay for the LLC within the following days. Within a few days, stuff started to go south. They were really hard to work with not to mention, not many people in a small rural town needed a mattress. We parted ways within 3 weeks and stopped services after they told me I was a scam because I didn't sell any mattresses. Which in reality, only 8,000 people live in their town so it's kind of really hard. They paid me $2,000.

Since things went south, I never created that LLC because I knew I was never going to work with a mattress store again.

Fast forward to today, I never got a 1099-MISC from them. Which I should.. Right? But then again, since it's a nonexistent LLC, they wouldn't be able to find an address to send it to in any database?

For some odd reason that they find out that I "lied" (which I didn't intentionally clearly or else I wouldn't be posting this), what could happen? Is what I did theoretically illegal?

Should I create the LLC now just incase? Can I get fined even though I had honest intentions?

I always make sure I am ethical in everything I do. My father spent time in prison for financial crimes and I DO NOT want to be like him....

    Any advice helps.. Thanks!

*EDIT. My lawyer is in the hospital with COVID and gets out tomorrow apparently, so that's why I'm asking here because I'm kind of freaking out.*

Can a company be bought without liabilities?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:50 PM PDT

Asking this out of curiosity as I am pretty baffled.

Quick intro to my question: Late last year I bought some products valued at about $200. The products were not as described so I set up the return process. Sent the product back with the shipping label provided by the company.

Then covid hit and they went MIA. Then late July I get asked what my paypal was for the refund. Then nothing until today.

Today they told me that the company was purchased by a new owner. They told me this:

"[company] under which your order was fulfilled underwent insolvency during the past few months as the pandemic hit very hard and had to be bought out by a new investor. The new investor was able to purchase only the assets of [company] and not the liabilities. The new company [slightly altered company name] is not able to offer any refunds to the past buyers."

So I am not very well versed in business terms but insolvency does not mean bankruptcy, correct? How is it possible that this company is sold without the liabilities?

So just out of curiosity: what is the difference between insolvency and bankruptcy and in what situations are creditors SOOL?

Apologies if this is the wrong sub for this question.

How’s most printed newspapers distribution channel? How do printed newspapers papers get to readers homes and newsstands?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 03:05 PM PDT

What I mean is for example: do newsstands buy directly from newspapers companies? If so, do they (stands) have to go and collect the newspapers or the news companies send them to the stands? For who do newspapers boys for and how do they get the newspapers?

    Business Technology Management Degree?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:24 AM PDT

    Hi Folks,

My brother and I are straight-A students, and active in the community in various ways, such as teaching children music, volunteering at the hospital, and guiding educational seminars related to overuse of technology in youth through a non-profit we helped build. We recently moved to Ontario.

On the other hand, we aren't tech-averse, and we believe in striking a balance. Also, we need a career that we could rely on, for our own nuclear family (we're in a tough financial situation), and for our future family that we each hope to have.

    1. Does any one have this Business Tech degree? Is it in-demand, as the university says it is (200,000 new jobs in the future in the sector), and,
    2. what do organisations actually have you do with this degree?
    3. Does it generally have good pay, or is there too much competition?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

What's your opinion of offices inside of storage unit buildings?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 04:36 AM PDT

We are viewing an office today. It's based inside of a storage unit building in the UK.

It's new, modern, includes bills, has lots of glass walls and parking.

We're currently in an office without car parking spaces, which is why we're moving.

What's everyone's view of clients coming to a storage unit building? If it was you, would you think it's dodgy or weird?

We're a creative and digital marketing agency, so imagine is important. The office is clean and modern inside, it's just the fact that it's in a storage building (though separate, with meeting rooms, kitchens, etc).
