    Startup funding questions

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:29 PM PDT

If you are raising a funding round totaling $50k, and it comes from a group of investors paying different amounts, such as 3 investors put in $10k and 4 investors put in $5k.

If you only want to give up a maximum of 10% equity, how is everything structured and allotted (equity-wise)? Does every investor agree to a specific percentage and then it totals 10% or is it done in another way?

Also, would a SAFE document be the best to use, and if so, which version?

Question : How does a mining business operate when it's reserves are close to being exhausted? It seems like employees and customers would jump ship beforehand.

Say a mining company has a few years left of resources to mine. How do they go about keeping everyone onboard to operate? It seems like everyone would be moving to other jobs knowing that their current one is about to not exist.

I am helping my uncle with the finances of his upcoming business, and I need help understanding exactly what I need to do.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 05:51 PM PDT

I am currently a full time student, and my uncle works for a telephone cable laying company. Specifically, he splices cables. He has already worked out in advance that he can find work (in the form of a larger company hiring his company for their services, I don't know the exact terms) if he starts his own company and goes solo, but now he just has to start the company and buy tools, a vehicle, and so on.

I took a general business class and consider myself a fast learner, but I don't know exactly what I would be doing. From what limited conversation I've had with him, he knows all the details of what he needs to do on the legal side of things, but he isn't good with accounting. I have always been a math guy, and this could be an opportunity for me to make some money, as well as get experience with finances and such.

    Now to the questions.
    1. What should I expect to be doing exactly? All I know is that every 2 weeks I need to create an invoice that has something to do with the larger businesses hiring him, and manage the purchases he makes. I'm assuming I also have to manage the taxes and deduct things like gas from it, but again, I'm kind of clueless. If this cant really be explained over Reddit, where can I go to learn all of this?

    1. This is only something he reached out to me about today and is much simpler. What are the rules with naming the business? He has a couple name ideas but I don't know where to go to find out if those names are already taken and what the rules are with similar company names.

    2. What programs are good for this exact purpose, or where should I look to find programs for this? He said they don't need to be free. What I mean by this exact purpose is that it is a business run by one person, but just me doing finances, so it doesn't need to be optimized to handle hundreds of people or have specific permissions or anything fancy like that.

Thank you in advance for any help given to me. All of this is kind of a lot to ask from strangers on the internet so if there is even a website that can help me get started with all of this just a name would be awesome. Thanks again.

I want to know about the content writing business.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 11:09 PM PDT

I have been thinking of starting a content writing agency. How do I study the market? Its needs? Will this idea succeed? I am fairly new to the business world. Have big dreams but no experience. Do people still prefer content writing agencies over freelancers? How do I get started? Please don't suggest any freelancing platforms (been there done that).

When Marc Andreessen says that “product-market fit means being in a good market with a product that can satisfy that market.”, what does market mean in this context? Is it the potential customers/users for your product? Your target market?

Looking for partners and business idea for a SAAS application

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:29 PM PDT

I have had this in the back of my mind for quite a long time. I had a chance to talk with a startup CEO privately for 2 hours a few months ago who his company acquired from a multibillion-dollar company. The most important thing for me is that I can sell the product immediately with some proof and there is a market for the product.

    SWOT Analysis - Personal:

    Strengths

    • Very strong technical background and ability to build almost any application
    • Managed and led different teams with a size of 12 people
    • Good at planning, estimation and provide the timeline

    Weaknesses

    • Confidence to find a product able to sell
    • Marketing and sales
    • Provide fund for the product

    Opportunities

    • Able to manage a remote team in Asia and pay around $800 - $1000 per developer per month
    • Take a proportion of the market share by providing a lower price for a product
    • Create a small agile team with smart individuals to create MVP

    Threats

    • After building the product, would not able to find customer
    • In case outsource some of the work to a remote team, they copy the code

    Personal background:

I have been a software engineer for more than 10 years, I have even managed 3 multiple teams of 6-7 people for a while, also Led a remote team in Asia while I was in Canada. I have two masters, one in Management and another in Computer Science. I have worked with middle-size companies in the US and create scalable applications that can support even 40K requests per min. I have very handy knowledge of Reactjs (Frontend), Node.js (backend), Databases (Postgres, Mongo, Redis), Cloud computing (Amazon AWS), and the Testing Frameworks.I am looking for sharp, honest, and enthusiastic individuals that are hungry for the opportunity to cover my weaknesses. It is quite important for me to find a niche market where we get assurance that we can sell the product even before designing and developing the MVP.

If you have a business or company which is facing some problems and challenges that could be resolved with software as a service (SAAS) in cloud computing, I would love to hear from you. Anything works! A little bit about my personal information. I am in the early 30, not married without any kids. I have lived and worked in 4 different countries from Asia, Europe, and Europe. I have been in Canada for the past 6 years.

Besides partners, I do not have a concrete idea yet. I need a product that I can sell it to the customers even without having the MVP version yet. Do you have to see any problems and difficulties anywhere that can be solved with a SAAS application? Or where do you suggest to look for it?

Please feel free to shoot me a message about your idea or comments below. I would love to hear from your technical and professional backgrounds and if possible you share with me some SWOT table like the one I shared about yourself. Or if you have some idea where I can find some partners and ideas.

    Thank you!

More People Working From Home Impacts

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 11:58 AM PDT

I just saw BP will have more people work from home. Why have Giant corporate headquarters if you don't need to. Makes sense to me. I am wondering about the positive vs negative impacts will be on local businesses.
I'm a huge fan of local small businesses so wondering if there will be a boost for them?
