    My thoughts on unemployment

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 03:12 PM PDT

I've been unemployed for some months, and I was very depressed for some months, even attempted suicide more than once. But I decided to stand up and keep going despite any adversity. I'm studying accounting again from scratch, I'm studying IFRS, ISA, AIS and internal audit standards like I'm a student again. And I remember why I love this profession. I could had died but I'm still alive and I'm grateful for having another chance.

Just wanted to share that with you if you're having a hard time. Don't lose hope, find your inner strength. And this is ironic, coming from an atheist.

CFE Exam - SO ANXIOUS ... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 05:00 PM PDT

Pretty much BS'd my way through the capstone, studied for last 3 weeks, getting mainly RC's and some C's. Stressing but I am ready to pack my books and write this week!

Am stressed, worked on doing practice cases within time restraints for Day 2/3 cases, so not worried about time, mainly just don't want to miss depth in level 2 or level 3. I don't think I will have an issue missing any AO's, just ensuring that I address points correctly, with enough depth/breadth.

    BEST OF LUCK EVERYONE!!!

    CIA - Experience requirements

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 09:15 PM PDT

Hello, Regarding the experience requirements, as a bachelor graduate, I have to provide two years experience to gain the license. And I believe I have three years upon passing the exam to do so. However, my question is. Does the three period start as soon as I pass the first part or all of the parts. As I'm thinking of taking a gap between each part to prepare better.

How to apply Pomodoro Technique in our office culture

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:06 PM PDT

I have ADD. I got a very little attention span, so instead of memorizing things, I just learned to improvise a lot.

I read about the pomodoro technique and it caught my attention. I tried it today and it worked perfectly fine. Basically there's a timer of 25 minutes, after those 25 minutes a pomodoro has already happened and you take a 5 minute break. Then you start another 25 minutes pomodoro, then a 5 minute break. When you have 5 pomodoros, you take a long 10-15 minutes break.

Now, how could I apply this in an office environment? People are nosy, how could I take those 5 minute breaks and that long 10-15 minute break without catching everyone's attention? I'd appreciate any advice. Like, if I take a 5 minute break looking at my phone, everyone will think I'm fucking around losing time.

Here's more information about pomodoro technique in case you're wondering how it works more detailed.

Interview questions - I’m currently being recruited by a big 4 firm. I will start interviewing for an audit internship in late spring and I have a list of what I think are good questions to ask in the interview. Any advice or criticism is appreciated. Thanks!

    Interview questions...

Can you tell me about the team that I will be working with?

Can you tell me more about the projects that I will be working on?

What is the most rewarding part of the job?

How long does it typically take someone like me to begin to thrive in this position?

How does the company culture affect the day to day?

The company's website talks a lot about technological innovation. How might that affect me?

Accountants in Denmark, I need to know!

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 01:13 PM PDT

Hellos accountants in denmark! I have been very curious about how the work is, and have had a hard time finding out about the job in Denmark, as most sites and threads on reddit is centeret aroud America, and i feel like it won't apply to danish firms. So my questions are, how are the hours? In either big 4 or smaller firms, and how are the pay? Is the hours really as bad in denmark as in US? Does the workdays end after 5.30 pm and is weekends also dedicated to work? I want to be an account but if there is no work life balance then I don't want it 😂

How to deal with a startup founder that treats company funds like his own piggy bank?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 06:54 PM PDT

Startup XYZ has a founder that pays himself as he pleases when he personally runs out of cash in the form of loans or advances. In the end this might all even out but I, as a non-accountant, can see the obvious problems here.

How would you deal with someone like this? What accounting rules can you cite to make this stop? I know firms are supposed to have cash-control policies like having two people sign off on any payments. But I would really like to be able to point to a specific policy/best practices guideline to show this person why its wrong.

Starting the modules C1&C2 - CPA (Canada) but planning to relocate to Germay eventually.

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 06:06 PM PDT

Hey accounting friends! I am signed up for core 1&2 for October, and I'm trying to fast track and take as many modules as I can, so that I can focus on my job later on.

I moved to Germany after graduation, but came back to Canada in order to finish my designation. I felt like I worked so hard in uni for 4 years, and should just get it done.

However, I've decided I don't want to stay in Canada for another 2+yrs to complete all the practical hours, and thats i want to move back to Germany when at least the modules and exams are over. I was wondering if someone had similar experience with trying to obtain the hours in a different country while having finished most their modules?

Furthermore, would it even be worth it in the first place trying to do all this work just to leave to another country? I know Germany has a few designations but they are quite separated based on audit, tax, etc and did not really seem to be as rounded as a CPA title.

Its all rather confusing! Any input would help. Thanks guys!

    CPA Exam Questions

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 09:24 PM PDT

I am taking FAR in a few days and I am wondering if anyone ever took FAR or any other section and saw a MCQ on the test that they saw in their review session. I am using surgent currently but it could be from any review package. Im not looking to start memorizing stuff but I just am curious how big the AICPA test bank is.

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 09:12 PM PDT

Pretty much the title. Within the 2-3 weeks it takes to get scores should I start on a new exam? Or should I continue to do MCQs until I get my score just incase? Thanks guys.
