[CAN] To those writing the CFE, don't stress. Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:03 PM PDT Is easy to stress when you never actually written the CFE. But for someone who has done so, here's my advice. The whole things gets bell curved so that almost 80% of people pass. Ask yourself are you really in bottom 20%?? I know peers from undegrad are very stupid (literally had to carry them throughout the group project caz they were so useless) pass the CFE on the first attempt. This is not shitting on people who didn't pass the first time. I know some really smart people who didn't pass because they overstudied and just burnt out. You can never be 100% ready for the CFE and that's ok. If you made a plan and followed it, then you should be fine. There some people who fail, literally because they don't show up. I remember hearing the proctors chatting on a few people who registered in that location but didn't actually show up. There are other people who have immigrated, who's English is not their first language fail simply because of language barrier. Then there's people who have IT issues and computers crash etc. The CFE always throw curveballs. The key is just to BSing stuff you don't know. Follow the CPA way and just hope for a curve. But you kill the stuff you do know how to do. Make sure you can actuallly execute when its time for the exam. Being mentally ready is key (seen people crying during and after the exam). Just don't choke on the exam and you should be fine. [link] [comments]
EY lay offs are impacting more than just low performers. Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:10 PM PDT I was just informed I need to leave the firm by the end of the year. I was not on PIP. My ratings were mostly exceeds expectations. Everyone in my PPED group was surprised. No one knew until I told them. I even had partners reach out to my local leaders to reverse the decision. No luck. I'm now looking for a new employer. My point is EY is trying to act like these aren't lay offs but they are. For those of you luckily enough to have better yearend discussions than me, I wish you luck. Revenues missed projections for the first part of the year I hear so there may be further cuts down the line. My advice is work hard and focus on hitting utilization goals and that your dashboard scores are at or above your peers. You do not need to be on PIP to be impacted. The message from leadership is misleading. [link] [comments]
Anyone here have any good quitting stories? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 05:16 PM PDT Someone or maybe even yourself handing in your notice and leaving just before busy season for example? Need something to aspire to to keep me going. [link] [comments]

Screw firms who can't even be bothered to send you a rejection email. Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:30 PM PDT How hard is it to send an automatic rejection letter to the denied applicants through your system? Students may have spent hours writing the cover letter and preparing the application and you can't even be bothered to let them know they didn't make it? Fuck any firm who say "only successful applicants will be contacted." It's usually the small firms too. [link] [comments]
As an aspiring accountant, do I need a numpad? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 07:01 PM PDT Hello everyone, I am entering my 3rd year in my accounting career and I recently started learning excel after having no experience. I ended up buying a laptop (surface laptop 3) but it doesn't have a numpad. The controller at the company i work at, strongly recommends I return it and buy one that includes it. I am not sure what do, I feel that if I buy a bigger laptop with a pad, it would make it harder to carry around. Do I need one? If so, are there any alternatives?? [link] [comments]

Marrying a Big Four Public Accountant Posted: 04 Sep 2020 04:38 PM PDT My fiance and I are getting married in October and I am so excited. He's an amazing guy. I guess I'm just looking for some support from those who are in relationships with those in public accounting (esp with any of the big four firms). Since our wedding is so soon, there's been tons of decisions to be made and also our apartment to get ready. It's not his fault, but because this is the second busy season, he has limited time to help me. I'm trying my best to support him and be there for him. I know this is important to him. I know that this is the best step for his and our future. I'm just feeling sad tonight and thought I'd reach out to a community I know will understand. Thanks everyone ❤️ It just can be hard for me to understand these deadlines and never being able to make any firm plans with him, because if something comes up, he'll have to cancel on me. And to all those suffering during this busy season... You've got this stay strong! [link] [comments]

How to obtain an entry level accounting job with a non accounting major? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:58 PM PDT I graduated in 2019 with a bachelors in Economics. I have a few accounting classes under my belt. I have three years of retail sales work where I helped with inventory auditing and I have been running a small independent business since summer of 2019 and have done all of my accounting myself using YouTube videos. I understand that that's not the most appealing thing to an accounting firm or public accounting position, but I do want to see if there are certifications I can take that can give me a little bit of an edge when applying for entry level accounting positions. Also, what is considered as entry level accounting positions? Which titles should I be aiming/searching for? Any help would be absolutely amazing and highly appreciated. Thank you [link] [comments]
I wish someone would have told me this beforehand: Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:43 AM PDT Finding out if I take the holiday off during peak season, I still have to make up those charge hours during the week, which means I don't really get a holiday off. Disclaimer: This is my first "real" job and I wasn't even aware that there was a fall tax peak. [link] [comments]

Pending layoffs-anxiety and questions Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:14 PM PDT So my company has sent notice to several departments about upcoming "re-org". Right now they are giving volunteer separation options for 2 weeks to self nominate yourself and then they will be deliberating in Oct and making decisions first week of Nov. This is the first time I have gone through this before. I am within the IT department, but we are spread out all over the country for different functions, and then some primarily work at corporate office (mainly programmers, network, and management). I am one of the youngest and newest hire ( 4 year this year ) on my current team. Many have much more time or could have already retired. I am just curious as to how this typically goes, as even my direct supervisors were surprised and included. The company is hoping to defer as much impact to people who want to stay, but I know it will not be impossible. Our team is one of the leanest within just the IT group as a whole, but this reaches even outside of IT as we are part of "shared services". I have read where the first to hire, first to fire- but is that always the case? I also have read where they will go for middle management and sometimes larger salaried situations. We currently get annual evaluations and I have always had great reviews; no write ups and such. I have updated my resume and linked in and such, but it's hard to even do many job applications , when I still have nearly 2 months before they even make decisions. Very stressful times we are in, with all of these companies being impacted. [link] [comments] |
