Just got my letters!! (Also my cake day) Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:41 PM PDT Just got the email from the institution that my admission to membership has been accepted. I can now put CPA (CAN) at the end my name. Been a longer than usual journey with lots of frustration and upsets but just relieved it is done. Telling the world! [link] [comments]

I accidentally sent porn to all the people in my firm’s counseling family (50+ people at the firm) Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:20 PM PDT I'm literally shaking right now. So far I haven't received any messages from anyone but feel like someone will have to say something to me eventually. We've been having virtual happy hours every week through Microsoft Teams and I've been using the app on my phone. I wasn't being careful about where I saved my favorite videos and ended up dropping one into Teams. I know for a fact that more than half of the group saw it before I tried to delete the video, so there's no turning back. Is there a way I can save my neck and not get thrown out of the firm? Can I blame Covid for the extra stress that brought me to this point? [link] [comments]

I guess I’m not learning much in tax class tonight Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:08 PM PDT Have a zoom tax class about to start, neighbor has been having a never ending "car parade" for the kid's birthday for like the last hour. Everyone is honking and screaming and my window doesn't close all the way. I get that it's a pandemic but come on, have a little respect for the neighbors. Smh thanks for coming to my ted talk. After 2 years at B4, I’m off to industry Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:57 AM PDT Leaving right before my "senior promotion" that'll most likely yield a 2-5% raise. I was in financial services audit and for the past year have been in an "acting senior" role. I started looking for a new role right after busy season in mid-April. I was told that they wouldn't consider me for an early promo, because I wasn't booked to be a senior on any jobs through September. The next week I was staffed on a job as a senior through September... lol. Funny how that works. By mid-May I secured a "Fund Accountant" offer at a hedge fund but decided that path wasn't any better for my career goals. I kept shooting off applications but the job market was scarce and the applicant pool was saturated. Ended up securing an offer with a publicly traded tech company in the accounting function with ~18% bump in base plus stock options. Not as much as I would've hoped, but better than getting an insulting 2.5% senior raise to work more hours. All in all, I'm a happy camper. May end up doing a breakdown of # of applications sent out, #of interview requests/rejections etc. if there's interest. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:55 PM PDT Im currently living here in the US-CA and working as a fastfood crew. I just graduated BS- Accounting Technology in the Philippines last year. Its been a year now and im trying to get my degree together and hopefully use it to land a better paying job than the minimum wage im earning right now. Just got to the USA last year, went home to the philippines to finish my degree and came back right away. My family said that i cant use my degree here since i did not graduate here in the US. Im planning to get a Credit Evaluation to hopefully qualify for a CPA Examination. Since any evaluation is ok here in california unlike other states, which ones are the best service providers that i can use. based on price and their perks and hopefully your experience. BTW, i have no experience, and my brain is rusty as fvck since all i did is flip burgers for almost 1 year. If yall could lend a hand to some coursework or exercises and recommend books that are good to buy, it will be really helpful. Thank you so much. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:08 PM PDT The pay is not great, it's down right horrible when you consider the hours. Work overtime hours without any overtime pay. Expected to have no weekend life just in case clients drop off work over the weekend. Deadline after deadline after deadline. Consistently understaffed. Once the understaffing issue is solved, the partners bring in more work than people can handle which causes understaffing. If a natural disaster hits or something like Covid happens, you're busy practically the entire year. High turnover. Honest question. what exactly are the pros of working in public tax? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:29 PM PDT Hey everyone, An opportunity has come up and I'm just wondering if anyone has made this jump, and what they wish they knew before and just pick your brains. I'm currently a senior accountant at a large entertainment company. Have been in the role for a year and was a senior for a year at my last job. I'm in charge of 3 business units. In charge of monthly close, financials, reconciliations, AR, and some AP. A family member is invested in a construction company. The company is financially healthy and growing. He is divesting as he wants to just take a step back and not be as actively involved. The current controller/CFO is about to retire. The family member floated the idea of me taking the controller job, while the current one mentors and tutors for about a year before retiring. Going from Senior to Controller and then potentially CFO in about 18 months is nerve racking. It is also an opportunity that I just can't pass up. Has anyone else made this jump? And what do you wish you mastered before taking the job? What are some downfalls I'm not seeing? Any constructive input is welcome! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:03 PM PDT I just got accepted into the KPMG MADA program for tax but recently learned that I want to start my career in Deal Advisory. I heard that rotations might not be possible if I sign through MADA and I know that I would be letting a wonderful opportunity slip through my hands by rejecting it, but I don't see myself pursuing a career in tax and don't want to pigeonhole myself early on. Does anyone have any experience with the program or any advice? If I reject this program, I will have to recruit for full-time jobs, which is scary in this environment. All opinions are appreciated. TIA!! [link] [comments] |
