witness is asking me for money to help me.

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 02:08 PM PDT

I got in a car accident.

I was driving straight, and a lady was traveling perpendicular to me.

I had a green light, and she had a red light. She ended up running the red light and I slammed my brakes and T boned her car.

Based off of that, it looks like i'm the one at fault, since I hit her. Thankfully, though, there was a witness and I ran to their car and got their information. They confirmed the light was red and everything was the lady's fault.

Now, insurance is trying to get a hold of this witness and he won't answer. I called him, he said "if you want my help, you need to break bread. Nothing free in this world, boy" and hung up on me. Now, I feel like if I pay him he's not gonna do anything. Or if he does, he'll say i paid him and I'll lose the case.

I'm located in Los Angeles, california

    Road debris accident.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:07 AM PDT

Hi, this just happened about 1hour and 30 minutes ago. Just got home and trying to figure out whats going to happen.

Ok I am in VA. Just got off work driving home. Highway was light traffic, about a dozen car around me. Cars around me and in front of me were driving 60-65ish mph.

I was on the first lane, a car in front of me and thankfully no car behind me.

Okay enough explanations. I was driving on the first lane, car in front of me suddenly swerves and next thing I know I hit something my airbags deployed and yeah.

Right at the exact scene, there was a freight truck(18wheelers) on the side of the road with VDOT and an officer.Apparently his tires(yes not one but many) were all over the highway. I think they managed to grab 3 loose tires but I hit one that was in the first lane or rolled into first lane.

I got a crash report from the officer and it reads "your crash is reportable to DMV, and a reportable crash is defined as any crash ... property damage in excess of $1500." The police have confirmed with me that the accident was not my fault, and that it was a highway debris accident.

It's too early to call my insurance yet.

My question is what I read from the crash report (my car I am yet to know how much in damage it has been done to it but it is questionable whether it is fixable) that am I only given up to $1500 to fix the car and go to a hospital? Would my insurance rate go up because it will be going through my insurance?

Anyone who can help me out? I will be going to a lawyer first thing in the morning but I am getting a bit of a headache right now with this.

Knocked over a parked motorcycle, I have liability insurance what will happen? Urgent

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 11:01 PM PDT

I was sitting in a parking spot I backed out and hit a shopping cart I believe and it went and knocked over a bike. I found the guy and he was Russian so he spoke with a heavy accent both me and the cop struggled to understand him. He didn't know what to do so I told him to just call the police. The cop got there and the guy was explaining his damages. From the pictures I took The only damage, I saw on his bike was a scratch on his frame slider, bar end, and right side blinker since it tipped on its right. The guy was trying to tell the cop how all this other stuff just broke but he sided with me and told me that he sees no damage apart from those scratches. He gave me his card with a number written on it I'm not sure but I think he told me to just call my insurance and give them that number. I did what the cop said took some pictures of the scratches on his bike and we exchanged info. Is it possible this guy can try and screw me over for damages I didn't cause should I be worried I'm gonna call my insurance tomorrow and let them know? How will this affect my insurance as I am 18 will I have to pay anything was the number code the cop gave me like a police report that my insurance can look at.

My vehicle is a 97 Cherokee so I didn't take any damage from that shopping cart.

    This was in California

My Mom got a $7k bill because of COVID (OR Medicare)

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 12:06 AM PDT

My Mom has some chronic health issues, including dangerously low potassium levels. She was told to go directly to the ER when she experienced the symptoms. The hospital was in the midst of a COVID outbreak so they kept her for about 15 hours administering IVs and trying to stabilize her, then sent her home with some very specific instructions and directions to call an ambulance to another hospital if she didn't get better (and of course to quarantine for 2 weeks since she was at risk for exposure).

She got an enormous bill and when she called to find out why it wasn't covered by her insurance, they told her that ER visits that don't end in hospital admissions aren't covered by Medicare.

So, although her hospital bill wasn't because she got infected with COVID, it is certainly a side-effect. Does she have any way to get her insurance to pay for her ER visit?

Should insurance claim on rental property affect insurance price on my residence?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 11:44 PM PDT

Made an insurance claim on a rental property 4 years ago. Allstate quickly tried to nearly double my home insurance rate. I argued that we never made a single personal claim and that it was a claim on our rental property which was insured as a rental property. Allstate underwriters looked at it and decided not to increase my rate. Trying to find cheaper personal house insurance now and running into the same problem because of the CLUE report. The rep has no idea how to go about helping me and even says that their rules say that rental property claims do not affect personal property prices, yet the quote is very high and is missing a claims free discount. What should I say to keep this claim from preventing me from getting a reasonably priced policy?

Replacement Cost for Personal Property coverage, is it worth it?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 08:05 AM PDT

Everything I read on Reddit and the internet tells me to get Personal Property replacement cost coverage on my homeowners insurance, but I'm not sure the numbers make sense...at least for me.

The "Personal Property Replacement Cost" endorsement raises my premium by an additional 37%. On top of that, personal property coverage is a percent of dwelling coverage, and my home is somewhat expensive just because of the market where I live; however I don't own much stuff. So my personal property coverage (because it is a percent of my home) is way more than I need. I feel like I should remove the replacement cost for personal property endorsement. Before I do this can anyone tell me if there is something I'm missing? Thank you.

PS: I live in South Florida

Update 1: I appreciate all the responses. Yes I agree replacement cost is important if a total loss of your personal property would put you in a bad situation; in most insurance markets. For me though I don't have that much personal property and South FL is a unique market. I called my agent to take off the replacement cost coverage and it actually only lowered my cost by about 13% ($700 off of $5500 to bring it to $4800). I don't know why the endorsement line on the policy said it was $1500. I think I'm still going to take it off, $700 is a lot and they cap out computer equipment at $2,500 anyway which is my only expensive personal property (I suppose also appliances like oven and washer).

Auto Insurance Online Quote Always Expensive?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 11:04 PM PDT

Hi guys I always get the feeling that online quotations on auto insurance is much more expensive than finding an agent and purchase insurance via them. My personal experience: driving a Subaru wrx, own the vehicle, in SoCal, do regular commute from/to work, 10k miles per year, 27yr-old male, have DL since 19, made two accident claims, both NOT-at-fault.

My current auto premium with Travelers is around $1800 per 12 months purchased via a local insurance agent. I have done online quotes from Geico, Costco, Farmers and all of them almost doubles my premium with the same policy terms.

Shouldn't online quote be cheaper to be "attractive"?

Charged for something my health insurance said would be covered?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 08:35 PM PDT

I had asked my doctor a month or so ago if I could get some STD tests. He ordered 8 and said I could come back and have them done when I was able to. He said they should be covered under my insurance, but I called anyway to make sure. I talked to an insurance agent, and they told me that they would be covered. I had them done, and received a bill a couple weeks later for $68. I called the insurance company to ask what the deal was. They said that one of the test was not covered because it was "preventative". I told them that I had been told beforehand that it would be completely covered. I have the call log of this call, with the date, time and duration included, but they said that they couldn't find the call in their records. Do you have any advice on how I can get this covered? It doesn't make sense that I should be charged when the insurance explicitly told me it would be completely covered. Thanks!

Lady backing up hit my car

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 04:48 PM PDT

So, funny story at the time but now its annoying given that I have to deal with insurance BS.

We were at DMV, I was already on my way out on a one way parking lot (not in a parking spot), was driving super slow cuz there was this guy walking in front of me, anyways, all of a sudden I felt a noise and as I turn back, this lady in a white car hit my car. She gets off super pissed off, yelling and cursing asking why I didn't stop as she was backing up, mind you, she hit the rear end of my car, I was already past her! I told her "ma'am, no need to curse, and you do realize that you hit the back of my car as YOU were backing up" and she kept going off on me. Like she then has the audacity to submit a claim as if it were my fault? My car has a tiny white scratch, as hers does too. She even wiped her car and mine making it known that both cars were fine. Ugh. What's next? Anyone knows? I've never been in an "accident". Told her to just let it go since she's at loss but oh well.

Car Insurance: failed to negotiate a settlement on a totaled car and they dropped in off in the driveway!

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 04:45 PM PDT

This happened to friend- she totaled her car back in February, he felt that the insurance company wasn't giving him a fair price for the car. They were about $200 apart and negotiations stalled, neither would budge. He goes home from work to find the totaled car sitting in his driveway. Kind of funny if you ask me because I told him to stop fighting with them. Can the insurance company do that? His lawyer said he had never heard of that before. United States, prefer not to give State. Thanks, have you heard of this happening.

Neighbor set off fire sprinklers, Part of my apartment is now flooded

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:44 PM PDT

As the title states, My next-door neighbor set off the fire sprinkler while cooking, and flooded their apartment. Part of that flooding also went into mine, leaving about 1 foot of my carpet on the bedroom side soaked. Aside from a pair of tennis shoes, none of my personal property was damaged. They had an emergency company come in and rip up the rug and take the padding underneath it, they told me to keep the windows open, and I thought that would be the end of it. I went out quickly to do an errand, and when I came back they had set up 3 fans and 2 dehumidifiers. Building management, didn't even bother to let me know, so I gave them a call and they told me to call my insurance to arrange for a hotel.

My question is, am I going to be on the hook for the hotel stay? I do have renters insurance, there is a $1000 deductible, and it covers loss of use. But given that I don't have any Personal property damage, I don't see the total cost coming anywhere near $1000 if it's only gonna be for one night. The property management team originally told me I had to file a claim, which I did, but now I'm wondering if that's only going to screw me in the end. I'd like to hear any insights or advice. Thank you

    Laptop Insurance cancelled during repair?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 06:24 PM PDT

Hey guys I sent my laptop in for repair about 10 days ago and have since received a text saying it will be repaired by 1st September, and the same day the website informed me (via tracking) that it couldn't be repaired and I would be issued a replacement laptop.

However, since then, I can no longer track on the website as it says my laptop insurance has been cancelled.. with no more information, I am slightly anxious about this. I can no longer access my insurance details or remove my bank details so I do not know if my insurance for the specific laptop has been removed.

It would make sense for that, since my laptop model is discontinued and a new product would have to be sent, but to not have access to any details is really messing me up right now and I haven't received any new information in about four days...

The insurance is AOcare via domestic and general in the UK

What do do about denied ER visit( Bill 14k)

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 12:22 PM PDT

Quick synopsis: I got my wisdom teeth taken out; I experienced adverse effects possibly from local anesthesia and/or the pain medication. The list of adverse effects is long and well documented and they persisted and I had to go to Er and spent a night there(I wanted to leave but was not fit to go). My insurance question begins because I got an email from Aetna (student health, USA, GA) that my inpatient services was denied because of "(No Clinical Information Denial) ' with the long reason being "Coverage for the requested services has been denied because we have not been able to obtain any requested clinical information from the provider to determine whether or not the services are considered medically necessary under the terms of the plan." . I'm a little bit worried but not really because I have documentation that it was medically necessary. I called the Hospital and they said they haven't gotten anything from insurance (I only got an email yesterday so the hospital might still be processing it) and Aetna said they will also send the same document to my doctor. My question is should I contact my doctor and make sure he has enough information as to why it was medically necessary or should I wait until the hospital and the doctor get the same document I got about the denial of coverage and hopefully they can code it properly and sent it doctor?? Thank you very much.

Am I able to drive my gfs car if i’m not on her insurance?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 06:13 PM PDT

So, my gf is 20 and her dad bought the car so it's under his name and not hers, we don't even live together or anything. what i'm wondering is if I had to drive her car at some point, would either me or her get in trouble because of insurance? I have never driven her car before nor do I plan on driving it unless needed/it's better for me to drive (if she drinks too much at a bar etc) so it's not like i'm a regular driver at all. I do not know how car insuarance works as I don't have a car i just use my parents car. i am 20 also and have a g2. Thanks

Can I pay out of pocket to see an orthopedic for broken thumb/nerve damage without waiting, then submit receipts to another driver's insurance at trial?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 06:11 PM PDT

I was t-boned and received a crush injury to my left thumb, the police report (which was full of factual errors, including my name being incorrect) ruled fault cannot be determined even though the fault was clear, both from the positioning of vehicles which shows clearly that the other driver swerved into my vehicle, and the witness testimony i heard given to officers at the scene. I have photo evidence of car positions, and my name being incorrect on the report to dispute its validity along with being able to contact witnesses.

I don't have health insurance so it would be expensive but i need treatment to prevent further nerve and bone damage, and i need it very soon. long before i will be able to amend the police records and settle an insurance insurance claim.

I would likely need to borrow money from family/friends to afford the doctor since this has put me out of work. would this be a valid claim for compensation, if payed "out of pocket" with borrowed money, before a claim goes through.

    Edit* State of Texas.

Risk of Driving with No Car Insurance

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 09:48 PM PDT

TLDR: What is the total risk of driving with no car insurance if somebody hits you?

I live in Southern California. Does anybody know the potential risk of driving without car insurance? Honestly, I am doing for the short-term for two reasons: (1) I hardly drive my car, only to get groceries, (2) Because I am not employed right now.

My car insurance is about $60/month. And I always pay it in 6-month terms. I do regret last paying for it February when I got laid off but kept it active. I understand that DMV in CA will send you a notice that you must have insurance by X date or your registration will get suspended (which I absolutely hate). DMV is involved in way too many things but I do understand the amount of uninsured motorists in Southern Cali. If I can save $360 for 6 months while I am not working or driving very little, I would gladly do so. I understand the potential risk of hitting a pedestrian or motorist and it costing me hundreds of thousands (but that is the same risk of underinsured motorists).

I heard a horror story from a girl being pulled over with no car insurance (had a license and registration active). She was fined $1,000 for admitting she had no car insurance even though she had no incident. My workaround for that has always been using the premature insurance policy that my insurance company sends me before payment for the next policy in order to incentivize you to renew. Or you can always edit your last policy and extend it 6 months from today to have something to show an officer in the event you get pulled over. I understand that's a felony and fraud. I understand I am being irresponsible and nickle-and-diming the situation since my $25k car can get stolen and I would be SOL without comprehensive insurance. I live in a low-crime neighborhood and my car is a 2015 Honda Hybrid with the latest anti-theft security system, so I am OK with that risk.

Yes, I am being cheap. I don't want to pay car insurance when I drive a given 30 miles/week (I might drive 1 day/week). My car has latest registration and I have no history of DUIs or suspended registration (absolutely clean history). Really, the biggest risk is if I get into an accident which in my 17 years of driving, I've only been involved in one non-fault accident in my 1st year of driving (no accidents or fender-benders for the last 16 years). Yes, knock on wood.

I am mostly worried about somebody hitting me since then I would be sill liable despite no-fault in the aspect of having no car insurance. This would require me to submit an SR-22, pay fines and I would be driving on suspended license for 3 years. I've done lots of research on this. I'm sick of my insurance premium going up every year despite being an excellent driver with no traffic tickets or accidents in the past 10 years. Any advice or insight, I would appreciate it. Thanks for reading.

My bank didn't offer gap insurance, neither will my agent

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 05:56 PM PDT

I picked up a brand new $40,000 truck yesterday, financed through my bank. I was surprised to learn, when signing papers, that my bank does not offer gap insurance. I then contacted my insurance agent to try and add gap to my regular coverage and they are telling me it has to come through the bank, that there's nothing they can do.

Do I have any options, or am I stuck just praying that no one hits me

Did my insurance company break Hippa Laws?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 05:45 PM PDT

Hello, I originally posted this in /legal and someone suggested posting it here as well.

I had received some medical care over a year ago. The place I went to did not accept any insurance companies and had zero contact with my insurance comoany. I had to pay cash for the services I received and was told by my insurance company to file a personal claim form myself to receive reimbursement.

I had letters from my primary care provider that stated these procedures were necessary and they were included in my claim. I will note that my primary care provider was not involved after this point.

My claim was denied so I filed an appeal. Over 3 months passed before I was told my appeal had been approved and they were getting the check ready to send to me. Several weeks later I still hadn't received my reimbursement. I called and was told my appeal had actually been denied. I was told to file a second level appeal.

I pulled everything together in more detail and sent in my second appeal. I was told I would have a decision letter in 2 months. It has been almost 3 months and I still have not received it. I emailed the appeals department for an update and they told me my decision letter had been sent to my provider. They didn't say whether the "privider" it was sent to was the one that performed the services (but doesn't work with insurances) or if it was my primary care provider. I was neither asked, nor did I approve anyone else to receive the decision letter from my appeal.

Did my insurance break any Hipaa laws or anything else in regards to mailing a decision letter for a claim I filed to anyone but myself?

Any help on this would be amazing! My spouse and I have spent over 100 hours on the phone over the past year trying to recoop some of the money we paid for a necessary procedure.

    Thanks!

    Allstate drive safe app.

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 05:23 PM PDT

2 years ago I had a bad month where it rained every day and I had 2 accidents in a month... my rates are crazy because of it, and I'm with allstate now, I was wondering is it worth it to use the drive safe app?

In the 3 years I've driven (im 21) I've had zero accidents or speeding tickets in all but 1 month... im typically a safe driver, its just until the full three years passes, im obviously getting nailed due to my age.

Is it truly helpful or does it just not do anything?

    Agricultural Insurance

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 04:38 PM PDT

Uk Insurance. My Dad got in an accident today, he was at work and his work van broke down. His boss told him to ring and get someone to delivery his pick-up truck. When they got there they his boss told him to tow the van to the other side of the road. At this time it was very foggy. When towing a car drove right into the tow chain and destroyed his car, the person in that car is fine now and has a slight limp, the bumper of the van is fucked but pretty easily repairable and the back tow-bar along with the back rear wheel springs of the truck are ruined. The problem is my Dad is very very worried cause he doesnt know if agricultural insurance covers towing a vehicle on the road. My family are in a very bad spot at the moment and im afriad that this would push my Dad over the egde, can anyone clarify if they know anything about this situation? Also my Dads boss wants the insurance to claim from him but im pretty sure thats now how it works since my Da was towing the work van with his own truck. Any help at all would be amazing!

Need a lot of work, should I buy dental insurance? (CA)
