Uninsured Driver Hit me. Insurance Claiming my car is totaled. Allstate - Texas Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:17 PM PDT Longer than expected TLDR at the end Hi guys a couple of weeks ago i was in an accident in the parking lot of my apartment complex. A lady backed out too fast and hit the passenger side of my car. Initially after the accident i was contemplating letting everything slide since visually it was only scratches all along that side of the car. The car is a 2001 Subaru outback and i don't really mind the aesthetics of the car and thought i could buff out most of the scratches. However, I tried to open my passenger door and was not able to fully open it. From what i saw the fender was slightly dented right where the fender meets the car's door hinge and it was not allowing the door to fully open. I asked for the ladies insurance information and contacted Allstate to file a claim. Turned out that the lady had not paid her insurance in months and was terminated - she no longer had insurance. Luckily I have uninsured protection. The person managing my claim explained that I pay a 250 dollar deductible and Allstate will cover the rest. Allstate later gave me a call and said they arranged my rental and that service king would call me to set up an appointment. I drop off my car at service king and after 3-5 days an Allstate adjuster calls to tell me my the car is totaled. I push back a bit and question how that could be since in my mind it was a small fender bender. He claims there is internal damage and that they would be providing me with a check of the value of the car - $2300. I bring up the possibility of keeping the car and repairing it at another body-shop. He responds that if i go this route i would get the car and $1700. I thought i could make this work with another body-shop. Adjuster emailed me and told me the car would be ready to pickup next week. I go to service king today......They pull the car up and the headlights are not on the car, the bumper is not on the car, they put my spare tire on and they completely sanded down my passenger door. How is that in driving condition? The car was 10 times in more worse condition then when i dropped it off. Service king tells me there is a 100 dollar fee for me to re-assemble the car's components. The adjuster never mentioned that there would be a service fee and never mentioned that my car door was going to be fully sanded down. I immediately called the adjuster and asked him what was going on. He tried to explain that they have to disassemble the car to asses the damages and give an accurate quote. But why were the doors sanded?!? That is not a part of an inspection process. They are now trying to give me the car in worse condition than when i dropped it off. Who authorized the repair to begin before the car's value was determined and Allstate deemed it totaled? The adjuster is trying to tell me i authorized it when i dropped it off, but i was under the assumption that i just needed to pay the deductible at that time. TLDR: Uninsured driver hit me - i have uninsured driver protection. My Insurance totaled my car. I disagreed and wanted to keep the car plus the check Allstate offered me. Go to pick up the car and its in worse condition then when i left the car initially. Seems like Allstate started the repair but backed out in the middle of it. Am i in the wrong for wanting my car in the condition i dropped it off in? This is all extremely frustrating since i was not at fault for the accident, and i also don't agree with the car being totaled and now they are returning my car in a condition that is worth less than when i dropped it off. Do you guys have any advice? [link] [comments] |
Need to renew car Insurance claim whilst an active claim. Posted: 12 Aug 2020 03:29 AM PDT So I was involved in a car accident around 7 months ago and its my first accident so not sure how long it takes. But issue is I need to renew next month and if claim is not solved by then what happens to my no claims bonus (Have 1) . Would I have to write 0 NCB on a new insurer and write down that I have made a claim? I think I may lose the claim although it was not my fault as I didn't get enough evidence but Idk. Edit: Based in London, UK. [link] [comments] |
Allstate DriveWise Device (Florida, USA) Posted: 12 Aug 2020 05:59 AM PDT Hi, I just recently switched from Allstate to GEICO. However, I may have accidentally lost the DriveWise Device Allstate had provided me with, does anybody knows what happens if I don't return it? Anybody who's had or currently has Allstate please let me know. I'm worried and stressed out over this because Allstate owes me my reimbursement money, I'm not sure if they'll give it back now... any help will be very much appreciated. Thank you. Best Company To Do Financial Analysis For? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:15 PM PDT Hey everyone. I had a hard time finding a tier list or comparison of the best insurance companies to work for. I'm interested in finance work primarily. Should I aim for the big national players like GEICO, Progressive, or should I look for a smaller regional firm? Should I find an insurance firm that specializes in a certain practice/group For reference, I am a senior in undergrad, studying Finance and Information Systems from UMD College Park. Where should I start/how should I narrow this down? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:24 PM PDT I'm a landlord in Cleveland Ohio and against everyone on r/landlord's advice (but after consulting my own lawyer) I have decided to rent to a pitbull owner. My lawyer said that injury attorneys really only go after insurance and aren't likely to come after the landlord provided there's no easily provable negligence on his part. My renter added me as a secondary on his insurance and indemnifies me in the lease as well as attesting to the dog havi gno history of aggressive behavior. So what are people's actual experience here? Has insurance paid out on dog bite claims? Were lawyers involved? Did the landlord end up liable? Had anyone seen the landlord able to exercise his additional position on the policy? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
dental insurance for college students? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:58 PM PDT hello everyone! I was recently kicked off of my parents' dental plan. (for what reason, I'm not sure, all I know is my parents claim that I can't be put back on the plan) shortly after I was kicked off, I had a dental emergency and wound up paying roughly $3000 for treatment. I was wondering if anyone knows of any dental insurance plans for college students that really can't afford to be paying astronomical amounts of money on their teeth. I was also wondering if (or when) I do get my own dental insurance, I would maybe be able to get some money back from this procedure since it was so recent. I'm very naive when it comes to insurance plans, any advice is greatly appreciated. edit: I live in New York State, thank you locationbot edit, again: in case this matters, I paid for the office's "plan," and that didn't discount me anything on the procedure. it only included 2 cleanings and x-rays for a calendar year. Dental Insurance - what I paid versus what my insurance says I paid doesn't match up Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:37 PM PDT I have a $2000 annual benefit with $50 deductible. They had me take xrays as well as a cone beam? ct? scan. They charged me $500 the day of and gave me the receipt but when I checked my insurance claims, they submitted $1300 worth of work with a patient copay of $980. Does that sound about right? Are dental offices required by law to verify insurance (in Michigan)? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:18 PM PDT I went to a dentist in February and my insurance covered the exam (not a 6 month exam--I went to have the dentist check my teeth because my other dental office didn't at my 6 month exam). This was a new dentist, and they said they had to verify my insurance before I could even schedule an appointment. I go to the same dentist in July for my full 6 month cleaning and get a bill for $400. I call my insurance company and the dentist is apparently out of network. So the dentist's office flat out lied to me and now I have a bill of $400 that I can't pay. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Deck scratched up by windstorm. Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:42 PM PDT The rails of my deck have been torn up by my neighbors fence due to a wind storm. My support rails are no longer up to code. Any chance insurance ordinance and law pays for that as I'm not sure if repair guys will work on it if not up to code. 2nd story 10ft high deck. Thanks all! [link] [comments] |
Life insurance payout question: last month of benefits payout Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:34 PM PDT Scenario: Layoffs are announced at a company, and a contract employee is told that at the end of August their benefits and job are going to be reduced. The supposition is that they work and get pay until the 31st and the benefits extend to the same day. If that employee dies of natural causes like an allergy prior to the 31st (bee sting, peanut allergy, etc.) does the life insurance payout still happen and go to their beneficiaries? USA; Texas. Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:53 PM PDT I'm assisting my mother in attempting to refinance her condo mortgage. Lender said the unit requires HO6 insurance to qualify for the loan. The first quote was rather outrageous and discouraged my mother greatly from wanting to proceed. Perhaps someone can give me an idea on whether I might need to just keep looking, or perhaps have unreasonable expectations? We're in Miami-Dade, Florida. She currently does not have HO6 insurance on the condo. The lender did not specify if we need to have hurricane protection. The lender offered one quote with that at over $2000/year for $50k protection and $1k deductible, without the hurricane protection it was a around $950/year. As I said, she neither has nor wants this coverage, and at $950/year I can understand her apprehensions. The lender did not offer any coverage lower than $50k. This may be a strong indicator to get more quotes from lenders who do. Thank you for any insight or guidance in this matter! [link] [comments] |
Business client as Additional Insured on supplier's E&O policy? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:52 PM PDT Manufacturer wants to hire a high-skilled technical Contractor to develop a product. Contractor will work in his own laboratory as well as with scientist and engineers at Manufacturer's facilities to make the product. In the Engagement Letter, the Manufacturer requires that Contractor indemnify Manufacturer's directors, managers, employees, etc., and asks that Manufacturer be listed as an additional insured under all policies. Are business clients being listed as additional insured common? I could see that for a commercial general liability policy, worker's comp, and like, but is this common on professional liability, or errors and omissions policies as well? Auto Insurance across two states Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:34 PM PDT Hello all, My father in law will be having surgery in the next couple weeks. He resides in NJ. My wife and I will be taking care of him for the next 6 months to a year post surgery. My question is, would my wife and I be able to drive his car in PA for the duration of his stay? We are willing to put both of our names under his policy and pay that added cost. We were just worried that in case of an accident, will his policy cover both of us since it is a different state where the car is registered? My wife would like to use his car to commute to work sometimes, I'd like to do the same. My father in law owns a Tesla which would save us a lot of money on gas, rather than having it sit in NJ doing absolutely nothing. (Surgery would prevent him from driving) My situation also made me wonder. How do people who live in NJ, and commute to work in PA with their auto insurance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 12:13 PM PDT My wife was in a car accident this past Saturday. It wasn't her fault, got rear ended by a kid not paying attention. Police report, insurance swap the whole nine done. Her car (2011 Chevy Cruze) is still drivable but the rear bumper is trashed and the trunk won't close without a bungee. Adjuster came out today and told her it's totaled. She's very concerned she won't get much for it because of what she paid for it (6k) and two it's a salvage tital. Will either of these effect how much she gets back or is she stressing over nothing. We both admittedly know little about cars or insurance lol Any and all help much appreciated [link] [comments] |
Some weirdo chased me down and claimed I damaged their car Posted: 11 Aug 2020 02:02 PM PDT Someone literally followed me into a lot and claimed I "ruined" their newly purchased rims. Mind you I was driving on a highway, never hit anything or anyone and this dude hysterically follows me then claims that I somehow am to blame for his rims. He demands my information which I say yeah right to and dip. He screams how he's going to take my license plate down and call the cops. Good for him and I leave. Should I report anything to my insurance or call the cops myself? New Jersey [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 05:28 PM PDT I mean it would be less money than having me go in patient in a place covered by insurance. I'm 21 btw so talk to me like a baby. I'm just really trying not to hurt myself again so it is somewhat urgent. [link] [comments] |
Liability coverage for household driver with other insurance Posted: 11 Aug 2020 05:15 PM PDT I have a question about auto liability insurance in California. To be clear, I'm asking about the liability portion of the policy, not comprehensive/collision. I live with someone. We're not married. We each have our own car and our own insurance, but we occasionally drive each others' cars. I've declared this person as a driver on my policy, and on Geico's web site they show up as a driver with a status of "Other Insurance". However, my actual policy declaration PDF says "Additional Drivers: None". I'm assuming the declaration PDF is the controlling document. Does this mean this person doesn't exist as far as my policy is concerned? If one of us drives the other's car and crashes it, what happens? I want to make sure we're not in some stupid gap where one insurer denies the claim because the driver isn't on the policy, and the other denies it because the car isn't on the policy. Denied Life Insurance Via HIPPA Violation Posted: 11 Aug 2020 05:01 PM PDT I recently received a letter for the denial of life insurance due to a test I was going in for at a doctors office. Due to Covid and the nature of urgency for my test, I didn't take it yet. The company denied my insurance for this reason. I never shared this information with them. Is this legal? Home owner's + hurricane Insurance not renewing -- Need some advice Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:55 AM PDT I was notified by my insurance company, Florida Peninsula, that they are not renewing our home owner's policy for our Florida residence in September. The reason was: "We are reducing our exposure to hurricanes and other perils." My home is on the no-name 70-mile long barrier island below Cape Canaveral. The policy included hurricane and windstorm coverage. Flood insurance is through FEMA, but also through Peninsula. What's the best way for me to locate a good insurance company to replace my policy? Should I get the the wind insurance through Citizens? https://www.citizensfla.com/ Also, I'm assuming I need to reapply for FEMA flood insurance since Peninsula was handling that. Are there any pitfalls I should be careful of? I don't want to not have insurance during a hurricane. Thanks for any replies! [link] [comments] |
Rental car after a hit and run Posted: 11 Aug 2020 12:58 PM PDT Howdy! I live in Fort Collins, CO. Almost a month ago, on July 19th, my car was parked in front of an apartment and got hit while I was walking around the neighborhood. My insurance company said I could either pay my large ($1k) deductible, or wait and see if the police found the guy that hit it. There were a couple witnesses, and they caught a company logo on the side of the car, so I figured I'd wait. In the several weeks since, I had to go out of town, and so I rented a car for a week and kept the receipt. They (finally) found the guy who hit my car last week, and I got to talk to his insurance yesterday and today. his insurance is saying that they will not pay for a rental car until my car is in the shop. My insurance says they will pursue getting a rental car paid for, but that they can't guarantee I get one. Long story short - What parts of this do I have the right to a rental car for? It seems as though the negligent driver should be liable for the extended period in which I did not have a car, but is this necessarily true? I technically could have had my car repaired straight away, on my dime, gotten a rental for a few days, and it would have cost less in total if I then asked the other driver's insurance to cover it. That said, I don't have that kind of cash - so I was kinda forced to wait. So I feel like the extra rental car time is also something he is liable for. What do y'all think - would I have a case for getting all the rental car time paid for? Or just starting when it is in the shop? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Homeowner's Insurance: Structure Type? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 04:27 PM PDT I'm shopping around for homeowner's insurance and think that I'll be going with Lemonade (great reviews, great price, charity, etc). Here's my question: Lemonade asks what kind of property is it - condo, co-op, or house (if "house" is selected, there is a follow up question of single-family home, duplex or triplex/fourplex. I live in a townhouse and am not sure what to pick. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:55 PM PDT Long story short, my girlfriend's car was vandalized (gunshots) so she filed a claim seeing as though she has full coverage, now progressive is claiming that they can't go through with the claim until she gets a letter from her RA verifying her residency. The problem is she doesn't have a RA since the pandemic has made it questionable whether her dorms will re-open this fall. But when she initially renewed her policy in February, she did attend school, but obviously COVID-19 messed that up halfway through. We asked them if they would take her school bill as a way to verify (BECAUSE THEY TOOK IT AS PROOF LAST YEAR)... but they're basically saying no so now we don't know what to do. Also, they said that she'd get a rental for up to 30 days, but now it's 3 and they're not honoring the rental no more since the claim is still being investigated. It's really sick. My thing is why would you allow her to keep paying towards the policy if you were just going to do this when an accident happened? I'm lost, any tips or advise? [link] [comments] |
