F'ed By Intuit Merchant Services Posted: 11 Aug 2020 11:55 AM PDT Unfortunately, my business was the victim of credit card fraud and chargebacks. The "customer" had all verification information matching secondary verification. The card was used to process ~$7500 - a typical transaction for us which would cause no suspicion. A chargeback was filled by the cardholder and Intuit was notified. As a client that has processed over 1.5 Million in card transactions in my first year with Intuit and never received a single chargeback. The Issue I am faced with is that Intuit never provided notification to me of the chargeback. The chargeback was discovered by myself checking my weekly transactions and making sure they batched out correctly. I was left in a situation where the customer had already received the inventory (three days after the chargeback was filled and Intuit notified), and I was left with barely three hours to submit my evidence before the stated cutoff date to supply information and fight the chargeback. Had Intuit notified me appropriately on the date - or any notification - I would have been able to stop delivery of goods and reclaim my property. They have claimed to have sent notification - but without a doubt - no email or notification was ever received. As the issue unfolded - the original "customer" placed another order and with the cooperation of our local detective, we were able to lure the "customer" back into the store to "pick-up" his second purchase of $20,000. They were apprehended and arrested. Intuit refused to assist in filing fraudulent card usage which would help the detectives file a second set of charges against these criminals. The lack of support, lack of communication, and refusal to cooperate in protecting its clients and cardholders are the reason I will no longer be supporting Intuit's Merchant Services. Customer claiming to have medical condition preventing them with wearing masks Posted: 11 Aug 2020 11:09 PM PDT I own a dine-in restaurant, and currently the state requires guests to wear face masks even in restaurants, except while eating and drinking. An issue came up where a customer claims to have a medical condition exempting them from the state mandate, and the state doesn't require proof to be shown for this exemption. Are we legally allowed to refuse customers due to their medical condition? Everyone is bearing with the situation, and I feel it would completely defeat the purpose of wearing masks if people can bypass it so easily by just claiming to have a medical condition with no proof. And I don't think any of our servers would be willing to take their table. Anyone dealt with this before, how did you handle it? [link] [comments] |

I want to rank higher on google in the next town over but I don’t live there. Can I do this? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:24 AM PDT Hello. I live in a town of about 10k people, the next town over which is literally like a 5 min drive has a population of about 40k. It has more neighborhoods, people, etc... I would rather rank higher on google in that zip code versus my own. Can I change my location on GMB without getting a penalty or anything? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Aug 2020 01:05 AM PDT Hey guys... I'm new to this reddit. But I'm wondering if there's anyone that has a small business that they run remotely?? What do you do? I plan to do a around the world on a motorcycle trip (when the borders open back up) . Which would take about 3 years to complete. I was thinking about starting a business where I can work from remote while I'm on the road.. continue it after my travels. I'm computer savvy... but I don't know much about coding or graphic design. I know travel blogging is an option. But what other paths have you guys taken? I want to explore many options as I can before I start something substantial. Thanks for your input in advance! P.S. I'm not taking about making lots of money. I'm taking about making enough to fund my travels. Which is about 24k a year. So 2,000$ a month. [link] [comments] |
Firing a key person or move them to another position Posted: 11 Aug 2020 05:05 PM PDT So I have a very talented office manager / sale person. She organizes my routes, sells jobs, handles situations and is very good at her job. However she is toxic. Its only gotten worse over the years. There is no speaking to her as it always winds up in major confrontation. I am beyond thinking I can fix her and the bullshit is now at a point I am fed up. She went crazy today on a host of topics (work related) to my wife while I was out in the field. I think this is my chance to part ways and move on. IT WILL BE A PAINFUL PROCESS as she is good at her job. I just feel like its now or never. Caveat, her husband is one of my technicians and may cost me a valuable asset. I would never have tolerated such bs from anyone one ever. I can't even figure out how it got to this point but it has. As I read what I have written I think it makes me sound weak. Which is funny because thats not my MO. I dont know how but she is the only one that gets away with the shit she does. I thought about moving her to another position outside the office to still make use of her knowledge but I feel like I am once again condoning shitty behavior. Hell I dont even know what I am asking. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Any way to resurrect my dad's long-lost local small business? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:24 PM PDT So, there's a whole whole lot to this story. I won't put the whole thing up here, but I'll give the gist. In 2005 my dad started a very successful local coffee house (a coffee house that was also a rock climbing gym, mini golf course, and music venue, among other things) in a small southern college town and it ran well for the next half decade. Through a series of unfortunate events, my dad lost the building and the business altogether, and now, ten years later, the building is up for sale and the town is seriously lacking anything like it. Seeing the building up for sale has been really tugging on my heartstrings because I spent some of my most formative years there, from when I was 9 to 15 years old. The building is historic, was built in the late 1800's, and has TONS of character. I know more about it than even the realtors trying to sell it, just because of how much neat stuff I got to learn from watching my parents renovate it. I keep thinking about trying to purchase the building to put a similar business back into it, but sometimes I feel like that's a complete lost cause. The people who owned the building after my dad really let it go to crap, and it needs a lot of work, but I know exactly how beautiful it can look when it's taken care of properly. Is there any sort of small business loan or historic building loan or any way at all that anything like this could be done? I've had this thought for a few years and given up on it a bunch of times because I don't have a huge income myself, have only "good" credit, and don't have a lot of collateral to get a big loan like I know I'd need to get the building itself, let alone pay utilities and startup costs. I have a lot of my parents business knowledge to back up the actual functioning business part of it, and what I'd put into it is something I feel the town doesn't really have anymore, something I know they've been itching for. It's just the finances holding me back. Should I be putting any thought into this at all, or is it simply be rich to get rich and I should let it go? Thanks in advance ya'll! [link] [comments] |
Would small businesses be interested in me making short videos on their stories? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:55 PM PDT Hi! I'm a current college student planning on taking a gap semester given remote education. I really love the stories surrounding local businesses in cities -- especially restaurants/cafes -- and I'm hoping to spend my gap semester building a YouTube channel highlighting the stories behind hidden spots around my city. These would be short, people-focused videos similar to Great Big Story (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gu0v2ITeYU). The goal is to highlight the hard work and passion that goes into small businesses and to encourage people to check them out. I wanted to ask if this would be something that small business owners would be interested in participating in? It would be totally free for them, of course, aside from an hour or two for filming at the place. It's more of a passion project and creative outlet for me to tell community stories, definitely not something I'm planning on profiting off of. Hopefully if the channel does well, then the businesses could get more traffic as well. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
24k students on my Facebook Group Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:35 AM PDT Hey there... I'd like some advice to monetize my 24k students audience, grouped together in a Facebook group, representing students from a French city. So far, the best way to earn money with this audience was organizing parties. I have already generated 3000 € in one evening. But the COVID-19 completely killed this business. Earlier, I tried to sell online training to learn how to revise better, to pass exams. I made 5 x 59 € sales in 6 months. Not enough. I was responding to a need based on fear, but I felt the students didn't care (besides not having money). I tried to sell some city related stuff (shirt...), but nobody bought. Finally, I tried to sell advertising to physical businesses in the area (to bring them traffic). Most pay overpriced rent, and have difficulty paying for marketing. I won 2000-3000 € in 1 year of prospecting. So here am I, finding a way to explore new ways to monetize this goldmine. The community is extremely dynamic, it gains 50 new members per day, and more than 1500 posts per month. Thanks for the tips ! [link] [comments] |

Looking for advice on starting a home food business in Ontario, Canada Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:09 PM PDT Hello all! Asking for my friend, I'll be helping her with her branding and logo design but we a soundboard on the current positioning of the business. So it's a simple online sweetshop selling primarily Sans Rival (Kind of like Filipino-style tiramisu). It's really just one product so not to overwhelm the market. It takes a small tray of it 4 hours to make, so the approach in mind was to sell it in trays for families, then parties and gatherings which is very impractical at this pandemic. The delivery option being considered is by their own car, also the reason why they lean towards selling in bulk & with a minimum order amount of 65$ so as to not incur loss. Now another approach is to portion tray servings into small sliced ones then opt for a delivery guy? My friend says third party deliveries aren't a big thing in Ontario. I was thinking to find a guy with a car/motor and just hire him as delivery, might help with the pandemic lay-offs. I guess my question is, which of these business models(?) are more profitable? Would appreciate suggestions. Thank you all. Be well. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 11:05 PM PDT Hi everyone! I just turned 20 and I started a small Facebook group where I am going to sell clothing that I sew! I want to pursue and put work into this small business but I am having a hard time understanding the guidelines I have to take in the state of California when it comes to small businesses? I wouldn't make more than $500 each week and I would be working on my own. Just very confused on how taxes would work and if I need to get specific permits and such since it's all online? Would it be worth pursuing or is the whole process in California just too complicated for what I'm going to be making? Thanks in advance for your advice! [link] [comments] |
Where can I get custom printed plastic at? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:37 PM PDT I've been searching all over the internet for hours for someone who can print some ~3.5"x5" plastic cards with a custom image on them but I can't find much anything anywhere. I found one place that would do it but wanted ~$15 a card! Basically I need around 10 thickish plastic hangable card that won't cost me $150. I'm so tired of googleing and exploring all these terrible printing sites...... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:57 PM PDT Are there particular challenges that make it difficult to get online or be effective online? Like everyone, I'm seeing the devastating effects of restrictions on businesses everywhere due to the Coronavirus. As a web developer, I'm trying to better understand how an online store or tech somehow might help people to pivot their business. A Microsoft programmer developed an app called OwnPlate which offers a zero fee pickup fulfillment platform for restaurants in Seattle and Japan to compete with Uber Eats, Grubhub, etc. I would love to see more innovative solutions like this to help Small Businesses survive and grow through the pandemic. Best experience with online banking Posted: 11 Aug 2020 05:49 PM PDT Just file documents to start my corporation and once everything go through successfully, I will be applying for an EIN. Naturally the next steps would be opening a business checking account therefore, what are the best business accounts to consider? Must have: ability to write checks Easy access to funds(preferably atm card) Low minimum to open >1000 TIA, feeling a bit overwhelmed with the google search as there's so much to choice from. I believe hearing your experiences of good (even bad ones to avoid) would be super helpful! 😌 [link] [comments] |
Import Software for Small Business Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:59 PM PDT For air imports into USA ✈📦, can anyone tell me what small business software options are good to clear shipments with US Customs, and submit documents such as Entry Manifest (Form 7553), Entry summary (Form 7501) , Invoice, Packing List, Air waybill etc. ? I'm sure there must be software options that allow small business owners to arrange and clear their shipments themselves. Having a very tough time finding/shortlisting them. [link] [comments] |

Advice for small business start up Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:11 PM PDT I have a small business where I sell private label coffee online, along with other merchandise. My niche is that I am donating 10% of my profits to animal shelters/ rescues picked by my customers. I have been working on this for a few months now. The progress I have so far is that I have a LLC, a domain, logo, package label, supplier. I am just waiting for my supplier to approve my label and then my coffee will be shipped to me. I won't be able to start selling coffee until mid October. Any advice on what I should be doing until then? I feel like if I am sitting around doing nothing, then I'm wrong. The only thing I could think of is start working on my website and finding insurance. I'm also looking for overall advice, maybe something I'm not aware of for supply and demand or how to market right or even HOW to market. Thanks for the help in advance guys! I can't to stay on this thread and see everyone else's progress. [link] [comments] |
Local Service Business Research (I'm in the USA) Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:06 PM PDT I am doing some research into local service-based businesses (any business that requires your physical presence). I want to understand some of the big problems around obtaining and serving customers. This could be booking, communication, feedback, customer support, customer acquisition, or really anything. It does not matter if you have been in business for 20 years or 2 weeks. Any insight would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Looking for some advice on which software or combination of software will work best. Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:43 PM PDT I am a W2 employee but will have contract work on the side (1099). My wife is self-employed. We will also eventually have a shared business that will be contract work as well, could be a year or 2 out. I am trying to figure out what will be an optimal way to track expenses, do simple invoicing, and prepare for taxes. Our filing status is "Married filing jointly." [link] [comments] |
