Posted: 11 Aug 2020 04:42 PM PDT The worst part of this job is the clients. I swear, I can live with the long hours and the pressing deadlines. But I am constantly dealing with bitchiness from this one client's daughter. The client started and ran his company from the ground up and is passing it to his daughter when he decides to leave and she acts like she started this company on her own. The way she talks to people, including me - obviously, is awful. What are some of your worst client stories? Surely I am not alone on this. [link] [comments]

I just flexed on my partner by emailing back at 9.52pm Posted: 11 Aug 2020 04:59 AM PDT She emailed at 8.55pm. She's a great boss but I thought I'd have a weird flex but ok moment Edit: I lost the battle, I went to sleep to only wake up to a 9.57pm 'Thanks Heaps' [link] [comments]

How bad is it that I'm already ready to GTFO out public accounting? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:03 PM PDT I'm closing in on a full year working at a big-but-not-big-4 firm in auditing and to be honest, I'm already really really tired of it. I already knew I didn't want to stay long but thought maybe I'd stick it out through senior, but even the idea of doing that depresses me. I didn't think the mentality/culture of PA would be THIS sad. People really are out here addicted to work lol. And I'm constantly being thrown on jobs left and right with all my unassigned time (and chances to take PTO) being gobbled up but other people my level have gone weeks, even months, unassigned literally being paid to study and/or do nothing at all. And then people ask me why I'm "behind" on my exams. I've had people try to text and call me when I already told them I was on PTO, managers/seniors try to imply they want me to cancel appointments they already said I could go to in order to keep working, and people get salty and throw shade when I actually take a real break and don't respond to them within 3 minutes. This ain't it. I only see it getting worse and only see myself getting more and more fed up. I really want to get into data science/data analytics type of work but would need to do some courses and stuff first probably. My main goal right now is to just LEAVE. TL;DR: How bad would it look if I began searching for a new job after just one year in audit? Would it hurt my chances of getting a private/industry job? What are good accounting/business-related fields for someone with this level of experience? [link] [comments]

Just figured out what PA means... Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:57 PM PDT I've been reading the acronym PA on this sub as "process assurance" and not "public accounting". I thought there was an insane number of IT auditors here. Now I feel pretty dumb [link] [comments]
Just how boring and monotonous is accounting? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 02:15 PM PDT Because i need it to be reeaalllyy fucking boring. I am so done with exciting work. It really isn't all it's cracked up to be. Right now im finishing up classes to start junior year and working in mental health facilities as a side hustle. Yesterday a patient went on a verbal tirade of profanity, smashed out a window with a chair, and escaped down the street One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest style. And i am just so done with this bullshit. My blood pressure. Fuck. I cannot wait for a bland cubical and a workload of boring shit. Bring it on. I'm going straight to industry. Not going to dance with 80 hour work weeks. Just a monotonous, tedious, staff accountant job. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 02:35 PM PDT I always read on this sub about people working a lot of hours in Big 4 for a few years and then heading on into a better paying "chill" job. That sounds lot like what a couple friends I know did after med school. They work a shit load of hours but will only make like 50-60k a year for 2-3 years I think? (Idk if they get paid OT hours though, I know accountants don't) [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:41 PM PDT For those of you in PA with engagements in the healthcare industry, what has your experience been like? When is your "busy season?" How are the clients and is the work stimulating? [link] [comments]
Advice on actually using vacation when it just means I'll have double the work when I get back? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 02:34 PM PDT I am a staff accountant / office manager in industry. I am the only person for 95% of my job functions. Any advice on this? Seems pretty ridiculous. I think the anxiousness of a workload requiring 70 hour weeks when i get back would kill any enjoyment of the vacation... [link] [comments]
Accountants, when do you feel like you finally“ get it”? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:13 PM PDT I thought CPA would get it, but now I'm a CPA and I don't get it at all. Would all " senior" feel like they get it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:16 AM PDT First of all, I'd like to say to anyone who's been laid off or terminated, I'm sorry. I can't imagine what you're going through. We all pursue a career in accounting because we thought it would be stable and you've had that pulled out from under you. Don't feel bad or ashamed. I'd hire you if I could. As for myself, on paper, all is well. I've been out of school for about a year, my salary is good, I feel like I'm getting better at my (industry) job as a real accountant. No layoffs dude to COVID-19 at my company. I have every reason to be happy and satisfied. Unfortunately, today I'm just feeling rough. Between trying to study for the CPA, my wife and I expecting our first child in November (and me obviously encouraging her to take time off, putting me in a place where their lives quite literally depend on me doing well for them), being accepted into graduate school and trying to decide if I can or even want to continue pursuing it (MS Business Analytics), and just being trapped in Florida thanks to the atrocious way our state has handled the virus, I just can't seem to keep my mind straight. Plain and simple, I need a mentor or something. I'm a firm believer that no one has ever gotten anywhere without a helping hand, and that definitely plays a role in how I treat others. The problem is that I have no idea who to look to. I can't go internally at my company because my leadership only has their interest at heart. None of my friends are in the field. I just feel a bit lost. And then on a company call this morning, we were told that due to merging with another company, a handful of positions will be eliminated in 2022. I doubt I'll be one of them, but still, it was not great news. I could go on forever, guys, and I'm not sure what the point of posting here is other than the fact that I just have nowhere else to go with it. Maybe you all can use this post as a thread to vent or seek advice on what steps to take next. Idk. Good luck and hopefully next year is a total 180°. [link] [comments]

Is taking a semester off to do a big 4 winter internship worth it? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:55 PM PDT Basically what the title says. I'm interning at a big 4 next summer and received an offer to intern at another big 4 during the winter/spring of 2021. Obviously I'd have to take the semester off during the winter internship, can't see myself taking any classes while working busy season hours. For those who have done it, is the experience worth taking the semester off? I don't think it'll affect my graduation date as long as I take 18 credits each semester the following school year and take winter classes. [link] [comments]
Has anyone done the online IRS Assessment? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:22 PM PDT I applied to be an irs revenue agent. Yesterday they emailed me a link to take an online assessment. Has anyone here have experience with it? If so, what kind of questions can I expect from it? I would like be prepared. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:57 PM PDT Let's say you have a budget of 10k You receive an invoice from June 2020 to June 2021 at the cost of 15k You are paying immediately 15k which is then amortized over 12 months. But the budget account used would be actually drained and would be -5k ( over budget). How do I fix this issue ? I have to do this manually and get internal controls on it. I can't add new codes that will be specifically for this problem. I want to have a budget control that will not exceed the actual through prepayments and amortization. I hope this makes sense. Let me know, I'm very curious. [link] [comments] |
