Our tiny business is about to be destroyed by corporate interests Posted: 20 Aug 2020 01:39 AM PDT We started a small online estate agency 6 weeks ago, nothing spectacular just two blokes with an idea. We offered a pay as you go service. £249 upfront plus £149 per month after that. You did your own pictures, we marketed it, supplied write up, floor plans and memorandum of sale. It was starting to pick up pace and the local press picked up on us and ran an article. This in turn led to industry magazines contacting us to do articles. (This is all in the last 4 days). We saw a massive increase in traffic and leads, an amazing response. Then it all started to go wrong. We have a live chat facility on our website and on Tuesday night around 10pm I got a message, I replied and the person at the other end told us that he worked for one of the big marketing portals and that pressure was being put on them buy a huge customer and it had been made clear that either we had to go or they would leave the platform. I took it with a pinch of salt, informed my business partner, went bed and forgot about it. Yesterday, I received an E-mail from one of the marketing portals we use and was told we were on a months notice and they would no longer list our properties after September 19th. I was flabbergasted. We were told it was because we didn't do onsite valuations, which firstly is totally incorrect we have only carried out onsite valuations albeit socially distanced ones, we also offered virtual ones in line with government guidelines as has every other agent in the country. They will not enter into any dialogue and have also refused to confirm or deny that outside influences have played any part in their decision. We are pretty certain that this huge customer has made the same threats to the other two portals and think it will probably be over for us by the end of the week. Sorry for spelling, am laid in bed on my phone just totally exhausted after fighting this all day yesterday. In fact I'm not sure why I posted this, just venting I guess. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 19 Aug 2020 10:47 PM PDT Hey folks. I remember in the 2016 debates when Trump and Clinton were talking about taxes and they had completely opposite views for taxes. The Republican idea is that we give these massive corporations tax cuts that will free up billions of dollars and they can invest that into their R&D department for innovative new products, build new manufacturing facilities, employ hopefully thousands of more people and grow our economy. Democratic idea is to slightly lift corporate taxes and fund tons of different things, let's say social programs, student loan forgiveness, healthcare for all, etc.. During one of the debates Trump was making his case for corporate tax cuts and Hillary's response was basically "Donald, we both know that's not true. These companies will invest that money into themselves through stock buybacks." I did a little research today and there are tons of companies that have done the same that Intel will be doing. Visa, Citigroup, Lowe's, a massive list of companies that have purchased billions of dollars of their own stock, increasing shareholder wealth. Being a Republican voter it bothers me that we might be taxing our middle class and distributing it to the upper class. I'm a regular guy from Texas that is FAR from being a business major so I was hoping for some feedback from some of you business savvy people out there. Is this a distribution of wealth through stock buybacks or am I way off here? Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 19 Aug 2020 09:50 PM PDT Hello everyone, I was looking on the internet about different common problems we all face in our everyday life. I wasn't satisfied with the results I found, so I created digital Brainstorming. This is only for gathering perspectives, so feel free to share it [link] [comments] |

Does anyone know if SIGTAX is legit? Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:15 AM PDT Hey, I'm recently on the journey to get an LLC for my business! I stumbled upon SIGTAX after hours of searching and they seem to be the ideal way to go about it! However, I wanted to make sure that they are legit as I couldn't find reviews, testimonials, or anything to help me make my decision! If you've worked or used SIGTAX as they seem to be predominantly in Europe, please let me know, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Companies who lost their core business and changed to a new one by using their core competencies Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:14 AM PDT I'm interested in reading more about companies who did just that. One interesting example I've found is Fujifilm. They started out in 1934 by producing different kinds of films (analogue obviously). Fast forward to the 21st century and people bought less and less analogue films. So they "leverage[ed] key photographic film technologies to develop original skincare products". E.g. by using collagen which "is a crucial substance in both photographic film and human skin" or antioxidants and nanotechnology which apparently are being used in photographic film technologies as well as for skincare. Ten years after entering this entirely new market for this company, by their own information, Fujifilm makes close to 100 million USD in revenue each year (2016). Remembering business concepts & acronyms Posted: 19 Aug 2020 07:54 PM PDT Has anyone ever had the experience of being in a meeting or talking to a coworker or employee and hearing some acronym or business concept and not remembering exactly what it means, or maybe you've never heard it before at all? Makes you feel kind of stupid to just nod your head and say you agree, and even more stupid to have to ask. Especially in a meeting. There are so many business concepts and acronyms out there, does anyone else ever have trouble learning or remembering them all? [link] [comments] |
Why do employees and investors sell their shares for direct listings? Posted: 19 Aug 2020 07:19 PM PDT Can't find this answer anywhere and people are avoiding answering it. Why would they have to sell their shares when new investors are just buying a share of the company, why do they have to buy existing ones? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 19 Aug 2020 04:07 PM PDT Is there anyone here I can speak to about help with writing a business plan? I don't have much but will happily donate a few dollars for the trouble of helping me. I'm ignorant as to what I'm doing at the moment and could just use some guidance. Specifically a mobile dog grooming business I'm trying to get running that has been in business for 23 years by a recently deceased family member and I'm trying to get it going again but need a business plan to do so, if specifics are needed in regards to the business type.
