Adjuster accidentally sent me this. What do I do now? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 08:16 AM PDT Long story short, was rear-ended by a large nation-wide company semi-truck in Iowa who was following too close. Because of this, I've had pretty continuous back pain for the past year. They made an initial offer, which I said no to fairly quickly. They nearly doubled their next offer, which was in the ballpark of what I was looking for. I verbally accepted, but did not sign the release yet. This is where things got interesting. Instead of sending the release, the adjuster sent me a file meant for the semi-truck's company risk management department, where he mentioned that he was authorized several thousand dollars more than the offer, but he thought I would accept the offer he had out to me. He did eventually send the release, but I'm wondering, given that he sent me (accidentally) something clearly showing he's authorized to pay me more, should I ask for that amount? Don't want to get greedy, but I feel like that was an inexcusable mistake. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 08:34 PM PDT My hood latch failed on the highway. The hood popped open and damaged the part where the roof connects to the glass. Now the roof caves in and it leaks when it rains. The insurance paid out just under $3k and I kept my 2010 corolla. My question is how is the title process? The vehicle is driveable. The only thing wrong with it are the the roof and hood damages. Do I need to apply for a salvage title and have it inspected after doing repairs? What would happen if I'm pulled over driving the vehicle in this condition? Would a cop tow my car because the car is totaled by my insurance? [link] [comments] |
Car insurance for Teen/Young Adult in NV Posted: 03 Aug 2020 10:05 PM PDT Hello, can someone give me some advice about car insurance? I'm 17 years old and will turn 18 this September and because of some personal problems with my dad, he refused to add me to his insurance. Can someone help me with this, I'm already trying to get some quotes from some insurance companies like Geico, Progressive, State Farm, ...and most of them not sell for under 18 years old and some of them don't have many details about the insurance. I need some kind of affordable insurance because I need to pay for insurance + my car. I really need it as soon as possible, I don't drive much, just need it because I need to drive to my university. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:35 PM PDT I work for one of the "top" insurance companies in America as a technical support rep for the mobile app & I just want to say that the app is terrible. I'm starting to really see why customers hate the app. It is not user-friendly and it is just issue after issue. It has just been a major headache but that's just call center life for ya. How can you spend all of this money for commercials but the app is crappy as hell? On top of that, the CEO has announced a round of layoffs by the end of September. [link] [comments] |
25yo looking to get life insurance. Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:39 PM PDT I'm a healthy 25 year old guy looking to purchase life insurance. What are some factors I should consider when determining things like policy size, picking the right company, etc..? I live in California but will be moving to New York later this year. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Riding shotgun when another car hit us. Neither party has adequate insurance for medical claims. Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:22 PM PDT I'm a little lost at the moment, hopefully I can find some advice here. My friend and I were driving along the waterfront yesterday when a driver pulled an illegal u-turn in front of us and smashed our passenger side. I was riding shotgun, so I got the brunt of the impact. The entire door caved in on me and the panel actually lodged itself in the other driver's car. Thankfully the immediate injury wasn't too bad, but I've developed some concerning back pain overnight, so I'm seeing my physician tomorrow to assess the damage (so to speak). The police came to the scene and determined the other party was 100% at fault, despite their persistent denials and excuses. Both insurance companies made a unanimous decision against the other car after viewing the dashcam footage. However, the other driver's insurance was not active (despite multiple WA laws requiring at least basic collision coverage). Moreover, the driver I was with has no bodily injury policy, PIP, or underinsured motorist coverage. This makes for a very sticky situation because I'm going to rack up medical bills with no immediate recourse. I've already contacted a personal injury attorney who was incredibly helpful, but after the details about lack of insurance started rolling out, he gave me some candid advice to not pursue this through insurance. Rather, he suggested I keep track of all my bills and take the driver to small claims court. He can't help me any further, so it's up to me to explore legal action. What is my best course of action here? I have no intention of going after my friend and having him pay out of pocket. I believe the other driver deserves to pay for this, especially considering his aggressive behavior at the scene. [link] [comments] |
Stolen car advice 2017 Ford Focus Posted: 03 Aug 2020 10:10 AM PDT In June 2020 my car was stolen on a business trip to a city 3 hours away. Car was recovered 9 days later by police. The car was stolen from me, sold to one person, stolen from that person, then used as a meth lab for a day or two. When I went to see the car it was full of clothes and trash and cigarettes and reeked of ashes and a very strong chemical smell. I later found out that was meth. There were burns in the seats and liquid stains on my black seats. I'm pretty sure someone defecated in the car. My insurance company paid for repair to the bumpers which was minor and paid for the interior to be detailed and an ozone machine to run for two weeks to eliminate the stench inside. This last weekend 7/31-8/1, had to fly to this city to pick up my car because insurance wouldn't ship it to me. I go to pick up the car and it still has a lingering chemical and cigarette smell. The appraiser never came and looked at the car or inspected it once the repair was "completed". I choose to drive it home so it can finish getting repaired, I also didn't have a way home from where I was. On the way home I'm light headed and nauseous and have to stop every hour or so to get out and catch my breath. The car drives like the alignment is off, it shudders, and doesn't drive like it did before it was stolen. Once home I inspect the car and find white pills under the back seat, a crack pipe in the truck, and a pistol by the spare tire. There's a strong smell of chemical after it sits in the sun. This car stinks like meth I find out. I'm having a K-9 unit come out and sniff around to locate any other drug or firearm related things in it. I was told by the local sheriff that drug dogs will bark on it from now until forever if meth was smoked or made in it. I called my adjuster and the adjuster just asks what I did with the drugs. They refuse to take any responsibility for repairing my car any more. I work for a large oil and gas company and my vehicle is subject to random searches with drug and firearm dogs. I can't drive it to work or really anywhere for that matter. The car is worthless to me. I've researched meth use in cars and it's advised to completely replace the interior and dash and air conditioning components as the smell never goes away. Your car is essentially totaled. What can I do to convince my adjuster that my car is trashed beyond repair? It's worthless to me and I can't even trade it in for another car because it's worth nothing. Car is a 2017 with 32000 miles. It had 30000 when it was stolen so someone put ~2000 miles on it in 9 days. Edit: I'm in Texas [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:00 PM PDT Bought our home in 2016. Built in 1992 and we're the third owners. Roof was redone in 2015 and a crack in the foundation was repaired about 10 years ago and certification paperwork was left by first owner. Over the last few years we've noticed it is difficult to keep the house warm/cool and had some cracking drywall but thought it was just the house settling. While redoing the back deck, I found rotted wood on the house header boards and sill plates. After going in the crawlspace we found that insulation was placed over rotted and molding floor joists and surrounding wood all around the foundation wall. I've since found areas where expanding spray foam was put in and panels of insulation were installed to hide the damage. The damage is so bad that you can put your hand through the header board on the outside of the house and push through to the crawlspace completely with little effort. Also, during a recent thunderstorm we found water coming down the wall inside but haven't found anywhere that water could be coming in (thoroughly cleaned the gutters and haven't had an issue since). Some drywall damage below that area that has been there basically since we moved in could suggest that this was a known issue. Sadly I didn't think much of it. An exterior wall on the second floor (above the same area) also seems to flex outward when pushed on with minimal effort. I'm not sure where to go from here and am freaking out a bit. I'm a first-time homeowner in Illinois. What would I need to prove that the previous owner knew about the problem(s) and tried to cover it up? Is there any point in going after the previous owner at all? (I can't afford the repairs out of pocket) Can you claim this kind of thing with an insurance company? (Progressive) After being a lurker for 6+ years, I wasn't expecting my first post to be this dramatic but I don't know what to do next. This amount of damage could wreck my family financially. Any information would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Need help picking best insurance for having a child... Hra vs hsa Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:19 PM PDT As the title states.. Having a kid is in the works for my wife and I. We're both covered on the insurance so the premium would be for employee+family... My main question... We're currently enrolled in the "saver plan" which gives us an HSA through the employer through fidelity... I have since been looking into switching to the traditional plan, lowering our deductible by 2k, upping the premium by 20$ or so.. I was doing some reading and it looks like to qualify for an HSA you have to have a HDHP, which according to what I read means a minimum deductible of 2800$ for a family plan. My question is could we switch to the traditional plan through the employer, and enroll in an HSA on our own? I love the triple tax savings that come with an HSA and the retirement options but the reduced deductible and 350 ER copay is nice (I think) for having a child.. I'm a total newbie to insurance so any assistance would be greatly helpful. Located in the US/Ohio [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:23 PM PDT I was side swiped by a driver who was in the middle lane and i was in the right lane. They tried to turn without having blinkers on or being in the right lane and smashed into me. How Does Car Insurance Take Care of This? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:11 PM PDT Scenario: I totaled my car. Let's say it is decided that the wreck was my fault. What I think I understand to be true: My car is totaled, so I will be receiving a cash amount of the value of my car minus my deductible. My full coverage insurance will also cover the costs of the repairs of the other vehicle. The cost of insurance will rise. What I am unsure of: After the claim is settled, can I cancel my insurance plan since I no longer have a car? Also, I know this will impact the rates of insurance. Will it change my likelihood of being approved for an auto loan when I get a new vehicle? Please correct me if I am wrong or confirm if I am right about any of this. Question about disputing a home repairs estimate (State Farm) Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:55 PM PDT I live in Michigan. My house was hit by a tornado on 6/26/20. There is extensive damage to the roof on the house, the roof on the garage, and the front porch was completely caved and and needs to be completely be rebuilt. State Farm sent an adjuster (from Texas) and the estimate she gave us for the cost of repairs is grossly different than what the contractor we hired estimates. Specifically, State Farm estimates the work van be done for roughly $12,000 and the contractor estimates $30,000. The contractor is very reputable and I have no reason to believe they are wrong. Additionally, other people we know who work in construction agree that State Farm's estimate seems way off. Basically, what steps do I need to take to get this resolved? The claim rep we are assigned to (in Georgia) has not been much help. I am worried about our roof not being fixed before the snow hits in a few months. [link] [comments] |
Homeowners insurance high or lower deductible? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:28 PM PDT I'm am under contract for a home and I'm wondering what people's thoughts are in getting a higher insurance deductible to save on the month to month costs? I've been doing some research and it sounds like that some people think it's a good way to go because you won't file a claim unless it's a high number any way. I'm honesty between 2k and 5k deductibles. Does anyone have any feedback? [link] [comments] |
Question about Lapse of Auto Coverage Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:20 PM PDT (Edit: I live in Texas at the moment, and the company is Progressive.) Hi there, I have a quick question which should be a breeze for y'all. This is my second auto policy and I've had it for 5 months (6 months in 10 days). My first policy was with the same company, but was terminated during the first month due to a payment error. They would not allow me to reinstate the policy because the violation happened during the first payment month, and have imposed a Lapse of Coverage which resulted in me paying more for the same kind of policy. My question is, does this Lapse of Coverage penalty stay on my record forever, and will it affect my rates regardless which provider I'm with? ALSO: I've just locked in a policy with a different company. Should I have done this after paying the final month in my previous company for a lower rate, or should I be fine? [link] [comments] |

Insurance didn’t cover provider. Provider never billed me. What now? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:57 PM PDT I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this but I needed to share this somewhere. So about 5 or 6 years ago I was receiving therapy for a foot injury and the service was provided by a podiatrist who claimed to be in my network. They only asked for copay at 2 of my visits, which I found Weird considering I went for treatment every week for 3 months. I was still under my parents insurance at this time and I didn't really know much about my insurance considering I was a young naive college kid. After 3 months of therapy, my insurance sent me an explanation of benefits which showed that my insurance was billed for over $20k and none of it was covered by my insurance because the provider was in fact not in network. Had several calls with the insurance company to resolve the claim but nothing came of it besides them telling me that the provider will be billing me for services not covered by insurance. I tired reaching out to my provider several times to clear things in their end and was unable to get in touch with them for several months. It's been over 5 years and my provider never billed me for anything. I'm not entirely sure what happened to the claim. Should I be worried that this will come to bite me in the ass? I am now under a different insurance provided by my current employer. TL;DR insurance didn't cover $20k worth of therapy but the provider never billed me. Do I owe anyone anything? Edit: I live in New York. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:43 PM PDT In New York for a total loss settlement, is sales tax given back to you even if you don't get a replacement vehicle? Or do you need to get a replacement vehicle within 30 days of the settlement to be eligible for the refund? [link] [comments] |
Other party insurance company is calling me asking for my insurance info Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:36 PM PDT I was in an accident with a pedestrian. No citation was written. The pedestrian refused medical attention and had no visible injuries. Anyways, today I get a call from their insurance company just asking for the information of my insurance company. I provided all that information to the police. How should I proceed? Any advice is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:28 PM PDT But now I have the money to cover the deductible. For reference, the estimated cost to repair the damage out of pocket has ranged from $6,000-$8,000. My big question is that will my Insurance Company (Geico) cover the damages made to the car, 20 months after the incident when I have not opened a claim in that time? [link] [comments] |
Should I File a Claim for Replacing a Windshield? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:13 PM PDT Lucky me... I just had 2 minor cracks repaired last week through insurance (Progressive) and today My windshield was hit with a big rock that will require the entire windshield to be replaced. The quote out-of-pocket is about $1K including labor due to the safety features in my car. I haven't had the best year with insurance. My car was keyed while parked at an airport (got that fixed), a guy barely bumped into the back of my car (his insurance paid for that), and I had a small incident where I hit a curb and had to pay a deductible to get that fixed. I don't want to go through insurance again to get my windshield replaced because I've already had 3 claims in the past year. I also don't want to pay $1,000 out-of-pocket but it's looking like that might be my best option. I live in Arizona. Any thoughts? Any help is appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Adding girlfriend to insurance?? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:18 PM PDT My girlfriend is getting a car soon and would like to be put on my insurance. We do not currently live together but shes here all the time. I am able to see how to add people but not add a car on a different address. Posted: 03 Aug 2020 03:25 PM PDT Hi group health brokers! I'm thinking of leaving my job but an important consideration is how much Cobra will be. If I ask our health broker but explicitly inform them NOT to discuss my inquiry with my employer are they at all obligated to abide by my request? Probably not. We are also an insurance broker but for P&C. We have a partnership/joint venture with another broker where we send all our group health and they, of course, handle our health. Thanks much! Question about accident settlement Posted: 03 Aug 2020 03:15 PM PDT My wife was in a car accident a year ago. She was rear ended on the freeway. The car was totaled. The at fault driver wasn't paying attention and slammed into her. He was driving a commercial truck. She had both soft tissue injuries and nerve damage. She has permanent nerve damage in her feet and still gets pain up and down her leg to her neck. We hired an attorney and she has been seeing the attorney's doctors. Lost wages from the accident are $6000 We are at the settlement stage where pain and suffering will be considered. A first offer was made of $28k. Our attorney advised us to decline the offer and we did. They said it's far too low. Everything is going through the attorney and we have complete confidence in them. I was just wondering what kind of offer we should be looking for. Neither of us have been through something like this. [link] [comments] |
Auto insurer won't pay claim because of voter registration Posted: 03 Aug 2020 02:54 PM PDT Hi all, I was sent here from r/legaladvice. My son is a rising junior at a college in Michigan. In June, when he was driving back to campus to retrieve his belongings, he was hit by another car. My son does not have a car on campus and the damaged vehicle generally stays in Illinois year-round, where the rest of the family lives. He drives it during school breaks. Luckily no one was hurt, but now the insurance has refused to approve my claim. They say that since my son registered to vote in MI his freshman year (ahead of the 2018 midterms), he established residency there, making him ineligible to be a covered driver under my Illinois insurance policy. I wasn't aware that he had voted in MI, but apparently that's a matter of public record. Frankly, I think their reasoning is BS because my son comes home during the holidays, my wife and I pay his tuition, etc. Plus, I know plenty of other families who've kept their college-aged kids on the parents' insurance without any problems. I've tried disputing the denial but gotten nowhere – is it worth hiring a lawyer to try to change their minds? [link] [comments] |
Hit and run while delivering cannabis for work. Who is liable for the damages? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:35 PM PDT I deliver cannabis for work. I have a personal insurance policy on my car which apparently does not cover delivery driving. My work has insurance for the drivers that only covers personal injury. I was rear ended during my shift and now my car seems to be totaled. The driver that caused the accident drove away. Both my insurance and my work's insurance are saying they aren't liable. However, when I look anywhere online specifically for car insurance coverage for cannabis delivery, it says that the business is responsible for coverage and I am unable to purchase personal coverage for cannabis delivery specifically. What do I do? Is the business responsible regardless of if they have the correct coverage? Or am I just out of a car and out of luck? Edit: Location is Los Angeles, CA USA [link] [comments] |
