    Why I left for industry

If I had a dollar for every time I got backstabbed in public, I'd have a lot of petty cash.

EY - FSO VS CORE Assurance

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 05:16 PM PDT

    Whats going on everyone,

I need some help/opinions on FSO VS CORE Assurance for a FT position at EY. I interned in Core and think that I will most likely go with Core since it will give me more exit opportunities and it allows me to see different industries. Now on the opposite hand even though I am an accounting major I enjoy finance a lot as I invest and keep up with the market so I think it would be interesting auditing Banks or asset management firms. I think they are both great opportunities but I wanted to get some opinions in order to help me make my mind.

Going from big 4 TAS manager to large local CPA firm for 50% pay increase?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 05:19 PM PDT

Currently big 4 TAS manager. I don't mind the work but the hours are rough and my pay is just ok. Firm not doing any raises or bonus this year and next will most likely suck too. A local firm gave me an offer to go join their TAS group and will pay a base of $170k. I live in a HCOL area and this is a big increase from my current $117k. Also this firm pays both overtime and bonus. And they claim the hours are really good with most people only working 45-50 hours a week during busy periods. I'm ready to take the offer since the pay is such a massive increase given that the next two year at big 4 we will see shitty pay increases. I'm just apprehensive because not sure the career growth will be there. Like getting promoted to Director here could take a lot longer than at big 4 (I'm about 4 years away from Director promotion at big 4). Director starting pay at big 4 is $170k. Which basically I'll be past that just going to this firm. Should I take this job at the local no name firm?

    PC vs Mac Question

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 10:06 PM PDT

Hi, I have a question that I hope someone can help me answer! I'm applying to college this fall going into business (the college I want to go to doesn't make you declare specifically what major until Junior year) and I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on what type of laptop I should get to run business programs. I was initially attracted to the MacBook because of its reputation as a reliable computer, but I have read that the Mac version of Quickbooks does have some issues. Mac probably also has issues with other programs as well, but I was thinkingof running Mac Bootcamp so that I could use the Windows versions of Quickbooks and everything else. I was wondering if anyone could help me out and give me opinions on what type of laptop is best for running business programs? Thank you so much!!!!

Can Someone Explain This and What It Means For Accounting Jobs?

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020/08/08/trump-payroll-tax-cut/%3foutputType=amp

If payroll tax gets cut would that theoretically cut any accounting jobs? I'm about a year away from entering the field and this just raises my anxiety

What is being an accountant like?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 04:19 AM PDT

    Good day

    All accountants

I hope that all of you are safe and well. What I have been wanting to know is: what is it like to be an accountant. I am in grade 9 in South Africa, and this means I have to start picking my subjects. I have always loved accounting and I am very good with numbers, therefore I am leaning towards taking it as a subject. Now that I am thinking of taking it I am also thinking about the career paths it opens up, which is being an accountant or other professions. The only problem is that I have heard countless times "Being an accountant is soooo boring."; "All you do is just sit in front of a computer.", therefore I want to know if these speculations are true. Many thanks.

Got my first job out of uni and worried it's not good enough, is A/R job that bad?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 09:36 PM PDT

I'm 23 and just graduated in the UK with a degree in Business Management & Finance (2:1).

I landed a job in billings, working with invoices as an accounts receivable administor. It's my first real salaried job, I've only ever worked in retail.

The business operates internationally so they are rather large, they said they like to promote internally and there will be an option of completing my AAT through them and moving up through different roles eventually.

Only problem is I always hear people say A/R is a dead end and won't get you anywhere in accountancy so I'm feeling kinda unsure about it all now and worried this won't be the foot in the door I was hoping for. Is A/R really that useless?

How to get Big 4 Internship at non target school in Baltimore?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 10:14 AM PDT

Currently a student at the University of Baltimore, definitely a non-target school for the Big 4. I'm a rising junior currently, 3.8 GPA, 2 years of VITA, 1 year of being a tax preparer. Would love to work for a Big 4 in Baltimore, any suggestions?

    [CAN] PERT - Problem Solving

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 11:29 AM PDT

This is my first PERT report submission, I have been working in a mid-sized accounting firm for 7 months. I can't think of anything examples to write about for this enabling competency... I have examples for everything else. I was hoping to get some ideas of what some of you guys wrote about for your first report for this EC.

    Career Change - Too late?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 02:46 PM PDT

Hello, I recently retired from the US Air Force. I have a Business Administration Bachelors and am looking to start a masters program. Accounting is something I have always been interested in. I have a few questions maybe you have answers to: Am I too old (44) to start this? How critical is the post grad school I go to? I want to go online while I work, is this do-able? Where can I find formal guidance or mentorship? I usually just look at cats on Reddit so thanks for being here :)
