    Another Saturday online...

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:35 PM PDT

And none of the other people in my group save for another senior manager are online. Even the people who assigned me work aren't online. I'm an absolute chump, and I can't wait to leave this fucking place.

Edit: it's now "another Sunday morning online..."

Advice on where to go from here. No return offer after internship

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 12:23 PM PDT

    Hey ya'll.

I want advice on what I should do after I finished my big 4 audit internship of 8 months and had no return offer. (EY Fall 2019-Winter 2020) I wasn't extended an offer because I had two below average performances during busy season. I seriously don't what to do with my life. I barely got into EY with a 3.3 GPA and I don't come from a prestigious university (Western Canada). I have no idea how to explain how i wasn't extended an offer when like almost everyone got one. I'm so ashamed and embarassed I really wish I could turn back time. The job market is terrible and there has been 0 postings for jobs. Please advise i'm so lost.

What type of accounting careers let you work from home?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 06:36 PM PDT

I'm currently in my first accounting job out of college as an internal auditor for a midsize company. Our audit manager is pretty strict about not letting us work from home (even during covid). According him working from home is only for "lazy deadbeat losers".

Virtually all of my friends who graduated with accounting degrees also do not work from home, whereas most of my friends with computer science or IT backgrounds do get to work from home.

I unfortunately have a disability that makes commuting nearly impossible. So I'm now looking to move to a new role that allows remote work.

Does anyone know what type of roles/companies are most likely to let you work from home?

Staff Tax Accountant, $12 an hour?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:11 PM PDT

Saw an Indeed post looking for a bachelor's degree and would be doing taxes, bookkeeping, and payroll part-time at a local CPA firm. Is this worth it, being that it's part-time and $12 an hour?

    Referring someone I barely know?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 03:17 PM PDT

So the manager of my building complex wants me to refer him for a role at a Big 4 in a different department/service line than mine. We had talked once about work and how he has worked as a financial analyst before and would like to have a similar role again and how he hasn't been successful in landing interviews at Big 4 before. I looked at his resume and I have some suggestions /corrections mostly because he's not a native English speaker.

Should I refer him even though we haven't worked together and I have talked with him just a couple of times? If yes, should I do it through the referral program at my firm or send an email to a recruiter or just have him answer on his application that I've referred him?

Is public really all that bad?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:23 PM PDT

I am an accounting student in my sophomore year and always hear from people online and in-person that public sucks, but how bad is it really? I always believed that happy people won't post about how happy they are but upset people will, so are these people just outliers, or is it the norm?

How long to people work at a Big 4 before moving on?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:17 PM PDT

TL DR: How long should I expect to work at a Big 4 before getting a good exit opportunity.

I have heard that people typically work at Big 4 for 2-5 years to get good exit opportunities. I have also heard that they work until they get a "Senior" position which I believe can take up to 7 years. I could be wrong, I am still learning as I am still in my early years of undergrad. Any information or advice that is given is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ghosted by Grant Thornton after interview

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:36 AM PDT

I had an interview at the beginning of August with Grant Thornton. They said I would hear from them next week. They never contacted me. Then, 15 days after the interview, I emailed the recruiter to follow up. It's been 3 days since I have emailed the recruiter and they haven't replied back. Should I assume that I am not getting the offer or try to follow up again?

Hi, noob accounting student here. I was wondering if you count start up costs as part of the breakeven analysis.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 06:27 PM PDT

So, breakeven point is fixed costs/cm but initial costs are fixed costs as well right. What I mean is... do you count the intial fund needed to set up a factory (but not paid monthly) in the breakeven point equation? Or is it just talking about monthly fixed expenses

I am afraid hiring managers will think I am retarded because of my GPA.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:13 PM PDT

My academic achievements have not been so great. I am almost about to graduate, and one of my biggest insecurities is my GPA. I have been through multiple schools, took very long breaks, and am graduating in my late twenties.

This would not look good to hiring managers, and I fear that they would think I am incompetent. Additionally, I did not anticipate this pandemic happening and as a result, I am even further behind because of the economic recession.

There has been a lot going on in my life, and it have manifested itself through my poor grades and my uncertain outlook for the future.

My biggest question is, what should I do to ensure that my resume doesn't get thrown in the thrash or get shit on because of my GPA.

Also, if I do somehow managed to get an interview, how should I explain my subpar GPA?

    Is Accounting for me?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:50 PM PDT

I don't really have knowledge of accountancy, and I pretty much have no idea what to major in. I love math but don't really do well with economics and business. Can I get some sort of basic idea on what accountants do from day to day, and whether I could be one, considering I don't like a business, but like math?
