Women hit my parked car, wants to get it fixed outside of insurance, brought to mechanic she knows, now painted bumper paint is cracking

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:25 PM PDT

Pretty much I had my car hit by a women who is my aunts friend. (I would of never agreed to this if it was a random person). She agreed she was at fault and will pay for all the damages. She states that her work can fix the car. It needed a new tail light and bumper painted. I brought it to them and 2 days later the bumper paint started to crack. They must not of primed the area correctly. I texted her and stated that I'll be getting quotes (by an independent) for the cracked paint. She AGREED to getting the quotes. I sent them to her and now she does not want to pay to get it repaired independently and wants me to go back to her guy to get it repaired. As well states that she isn't at fault cause I was parked illegally?? (I was parked legally). I already tried with her guy and refuse to go back as I have no confidence in their work.

I need advice on next steps. Should I just make an insurance claim (not sure if this would be covered), make a police report. The total quote is for 1200 to repaint the bumper. Or should I go back to their guy? Do I have enough to win in court?

    Thanks in advance!!

Help me understand my Progressive snapshot results.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:00 AM PDT

Yesterday, I received an email instructing me to return my Snapshot dongle. My results say "You will see a discount of $156 when your policy renews, in Aug." Is that a one time discount or a monthly discount?

    Edit: I live in Maryland.

    Thanks.

    Insurance will go up or?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 03:34 AM PDT

If I hit a pot hole and got a flat tire, skid plate, and underneath damage, will my insurance go up? I called my insurance which is geico and they got me a tow to a local place to get fixed and provided a rental for me. My deductible is 500$ but if I don't meet it, then what?

    Am I at-fault? Ontario, Canada

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:29 PM PDT

I backed out of my parking spot, was completely outside of the parking spot lines and in the "feeder lane" completely, was stopped and as I was switching from reverse to drive, another car started backing out of her spot and hit mine. The damage is to the side of my car near the back (not the back nor the back corner). I do not mind handling the damage on my own. The other driver left before exchanging all the required documents and did not provide contact number and claimed she was in a rush. I went to look for witnesses and had none after she left, though the stores may have surveillance. I do not have video. Am I at fault? Should I report and to who - CRC for hit and run and/or insurance? Will my insurance increase?

    Renter's Insurance

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:35 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I hope this question is allowed here, if not I can remove it! I am moving into an apartment for the first time and will be living with a good friend of mine. We were planning on getting a renters insurance policy, as per our lease. When I called the company my parents have always used, the broker recommended that he and I hold separate policies. Is this common and/or recommended? It seems like overkill given that we were planning to upgrade our personal liability protections anyway. I appreciate any help y'all can give!

I Got Hit by Someone with Mercury Insurance

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:47 PM PDT

i got rear-ended by someone who has Mercury auto insurance. the other person has admitted fault and they are offering injury coverage because my neck has been hurting since the accident.

my claims adjuster says that it's my responsibility to seek treatment, complete treatment, and then send all my invoices to Mercury AFTER treatment is complete, and they will reimburse me. the treatment i'm seeking is acupuncture with a licensed practitioner. now, my acupuncturist doesn't take insurance, so i would need to pay out of pocket for whatever length of time i need treatment, and then turn in the invoices to Mercury who would (theoretically) reimburse me directly.

i asked my adjuster if there is a dollar limit to what Mercury will cover, and she says that she cannot provide that information, because after my treatment is complete (how do you "complete" resolving neck injuries, really?) Mercury will "review" my claim and then reimburse me. this sounds to me like there is fine print that could keep me from getting fully reimbursed. does anyone know if that's the case?

    Will I still pay deductible?

My neighbor backed into my car while it was parked. However, I filed a claim through my insurance but we both also have StateFarm. Will the claim resolve faster before repairs are done or will I just have to cough up the deductible?

Got car back from mechanic shop with a dent/scratches, shop denies it. What do I do?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:23 AM PDT

    Hello,

I am writing on here because I am pretty lost on how to go about it. I really don't know what to do, considering the shop has told me they checked the cameras and said they saw nothing. Yet, I know for sure it happened in their possession and I don't think it's fair I should have to pay for this.

On the 25th, I took my car to a mechanic's shop at 10:35am, and picked it up at 3:35pm. immediately after leaving and pulling in to random parking lot to check the work I had done more (added suspension so I wanted to see the ride height) I noticed the very noticeable dent in the front passenger side. I called the mechanic right away and asked if he could check the cameras, he told me he would the next day. Next day, Friday, comes around and no contact, so I text at night and get told the landlord of the property wasn't around to check. Tuesday comes around and no contact, so I text again and get told "thanks for the reminder, I will check". Wednesday, he tells me he will check tomorrow. Friday comes around and no update, over a week has passed so I text him first thing at the crack of dawn. No text back, so I decide contact insurance and they tell me this should be solved between him and I, and that I should inform him I will get my insurance to investigate, as a scare tactic. I text him late that night, letting him know about insurance getting involved and he responds right away. He says he saw the cameras on Thursday and saw no car go near me in the front where I dropped it off and that I should go with my insurance and have them cover it, that he can't do anything for me. He mentioned nothing about the rear cameras to me. I ask about the rear cameras since it was there when I picked it up, and he responds 2 days later saying no traffic in the rear.

The way the drop off and pickup occurred was me parking it in his front parking lot. After that I walked to the back lot and into his garage to talk details, on my way out I walked towards my car, looking at my passenger side facing me. I would've seen the dent there 100%. When I picked the car up, it was parked in the back, with the drivers side facing me. I didn't walk all around the car to check it.

The thing that really worries me is that when I checked the dent in my garage later that night, I noticed the dented area was cleaned off, as if someone tried to see if they could just wipe it off since it was also scratched. The day before I took it to the shop, it rained and if you drive in the rain you know how ugly it leaves the car. My whole car was dusty as well from not being washed in over a week, yet the dented area was wiped. I even took pictures of this. I don't think someone that does a hit a run in a very small parking lot would get out of their car and spend time wiping the car they hit and don't want to take responsibility on. This scares me and has me thinking it happened in the garage..my car is garaged and I just bought it at the start of June, I was even showing it to my friend the day before it happened. I 100% would've noticed the dent and never parked it on the street for this to happen or even went to a parking lot anywhere else.

So what is the best way to go about this? Sorry if I suck at explaining. I am broke and would rather not pay for this

TLDR: noticed a dent/scratches on my fender right after leaving the shop and literally saw the side that was effected when I dropped it off and would've noticed. I park my car in a garage and went nowhere except to the shop. Car was so dusty from rain the day before yet the dented area was clean and wiped off...shop took over a week to get back to me and said they saw nothing.

Subrogation question involving my car that my brother wrecked.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 11:53 PM PDT

So, like an idiot, i let my brother have my car to help him get back on his feet. He was supposed to transfer title, but never did. I never sent in my portion of the title cause im lazy. Anyways, he got into a wreck and paragon sent me a subrogation claim for 5k.

At this point i dont want it to go on my credit. Is that what will happen if i ignore it? The wreck was a year and a half ago, in another state, and it hasnt gone on my credit report yet. I dont know any of the details as i dont really talk to that brother anymore. This is the first time ive gotten mail from them and im afraid if i call them to get details, i might be taken as admitting fault? Is there a way for me to get out of this? Negotiate a lower settlement?

Edit: i live in california, car was wrecked in missouri.

Travelers’s Insurance. Did I make a good switch?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 10:24 PM PDT

    Hi All-

I just moved from Allstate to Travelers and bundled my auto, renters, and umbrella with Travelers with a lower cost and wondering if I made a good decision. I started to google and found a lot of negative reviews on Travelers ranging from claims satisfaction to customer service and now wondering if I should go back to Allstate or stick with one of the major insurance companies?

    Any guidance is appreciated.

    I'm in CA.

My car is being deemed a totaled loss from the shop - what can I remove?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 02:35 PM PDT

We haven't landed on a price yet for the vehicle, but the shop is coming up with numbers to justify totaling it. I was told to stop by and take what I want from the car. Does this mean I am allowed to take off parts (tires, battery, etc.) or does the vehicle need to remain in an operational state?

My guess is if I remove anything they will deduct it from the insurance payout.

What can be done to resolve this?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 06:03 PM PDT

3 days after my then 18 yr old graduated from high school her father emailed me to advise me with approx 5 days notice that he would be removing her from his health insurance. She was immediately added to my husband's health insurance through his employer. 6 months later she required a visit to the ER. I paid copay and gave new insurance information. About 6 months after that a billing nightmare unraveled as we found out that he lied and had not removed her until 2 months after that visit. After fighting back and forth for so long with both insurances trying to get a 7k bill paid, its now been so long that neither insurance will pay. Services were 12/2018. We're appealing it again, but it's not looking promising. What do we do? Located in United States- Utah. Thanks!

Would you negotiate this claim yourself? Drunk driver rear ended me & fled

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:38 PM PDT

Cross published from r/legal but with some different questions for this audience.

TLDR: I'm in CA. I was rear ended on the highway (hit at atleast 20 mph but could have been more) as I was slowing down. The driver fled the scene but the police caught him and he was drunk, resulting in a DUI.

    Facts so far:

    • I went to the ER and had to get a back Xray. Cost: $2K, including my 1.2K deductible.
    • PT: had 1 session so far and they think I'll need several months more.
    • Had to get a pelvic ultra sound because of severe cramping in the month following the accident. Results showed no impact to my IUD (luckily).
    • I had to take 4 weeks of short term disability leave through my employer to heal my back/shoulders/general pain. I am a high earner so this is $10K+ of income that my disability leave covered.
    • Other party's insurance has accepted 100% fault. Policy limits are unknown.

    Open questions that I have:

    • How do I find out how much medical treatment is covered? What if I exceed what the insurance will pay for?
    • How do I (fairly) maximize my settlement without knowing their policy limits or anything?
    • I'm worried that I'll get low-balled for a "soft tissue" injury but my back bothers me every single day. I can no longer drive for long distances or hike like I used to.
    • Should I hire a lawyer to help me?

Coverage for accidentally knocking over an old lady on the sidewalk downtown

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:33 PM PDT

    I'm in Texas.

What type of coverage would protect me if I were walking on the sidewalk downtown, ten miles from my home, and tripped over my own feet and stumbled against a fragile old lady, who then fell and injured herself.

Most people are saying an umbrella policy, but I don't think so because my understanding is that the umbrella doesn't provide any coverage on its own, and instead just increases the coverage I already have through other policies.

Homeowner's/renter's policies have a personal liability component that covers if my mailman trips on my front step, for example. But does this personal liability protection cover me if I cause an injury when I'm not on my property and I'm not in my car?

    SIU statement?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:22 PM PDT

Hi!! I wanted to find out what to expect for my statement with an SIU adjuster. I hired an attorney to represent me and my best friend (passenger) for our big 3 vehicle rear-end accident. There is a police report that finds the other party at fault and I was told that they accepted liability and the demand was sent with our medical records and bills. We were both injured so we went to a chiropractor, had an MRI exam, went to a pain management office, then went to get acupuncture. I was told that it might've gone to SIU because we went to some of our Drs appointments together... my friend doesn't drive. Should I be worried? What questions would they be asking? It's my first accident and I need some advice.

    Parking lot at-fault question.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:38 PM PDT

    This is for Ontario, Canada.

I had reversed out of my parking spot, was completely outside of the lined area and completely in the feeder lane. I was stopped and as I was switching gears from reverse to drive, a car backed out and hit my car. The damage is to the side of my car, near the rear, but not actually at the rear or rear corner. Will insurance assign fault to me? I do not have video evidence (though the stores may) and only pictures.

EDIT: Other driver left scene without providing all required documentation. Although a hassle, I do not mind dealing with damage on my own. Should I let my insurance know?

    Pursue after a denied claim?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 12:32 PM PDT

So I got into an accident, somebody hit me and long story short I didn't get any evidence because it was so cut and dry and he admitted to fault. Few weeks later come to find out he told a completely different story to his insurance and the claim got denied. Now I have video evidence from the store. Is there a way to pursue legally or should I just file the same claim again? I'm in Georgia. Thank you.

Need help on figuring out RHD insurance madness

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:49 PM PDT

So I was looking into purchasing a 1999 Nissan Silvia (S15 chassis) and I was wondering what the insurance would theoretically look like for me.

Description of driver: 18, male, CT resident, no accidents or tickets, has dashcam and has that chip that tells the insurance company my driving habits.

The car itself is for sale at $5500 USD before tax and customs fees.

I know with me being in the high risk driver group, its gonna be higher just as it is, but since this is a Japanese import, would the insurance be higher than another 1999 car?

Insurance allowed to change mind on total loss?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:39 PM PDT

We got hit by a deer a few weeks ago and the insurance company came back saying it was a total with a low ball valuation of $4039 as our actual cash value of our car from CCC One. That didnt sound right so we sent our own comporables we had found in the area as well as work we'vs done to the car in the past year and they sent it back saying $4164. We said it still didn't sound right so they sent it back again and in the meantime (its taken weeks) we got another car bc we didnt have one to fit our family.

They come back today saying that its now a $6547 valuation, and now it may be repairable not a total...but they are checking something on the repair bill that seems high before they decide? Is it allowed for them to call it a total loss then decide not to once the valuation changes not in their favor? Also, is it common for them to give you such a low ball offer then have it change that drastically? I guess its okay because my husband needed a bigger car so we can sell his to make up for the fact that we didnt need to replace his, but its just crazy that its all happened like this and we want to know our options. Thanks!!

Retire with employer health insurance, do dependents generally stay on that insurance too?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:22 PM PDT

    Hey there,

If someone in their job has health insurance through their employer, and extends that insurance to cover an adult disabled dependent (claimed on their tax return as a dependent), and then retires with health benefits, does the dependent get to stay on that employer provided insurance as well? Or do they get kicked off and need to go on a state-plan? I can't find an answer for this question anywhere on healthcare.gov or irs.gov or on coveredca.com (it's in California). Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Allowing roommate to drive my car for extended period of time

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 02:50 PM PDT

    Hello,

I will be living in an apartment complex while attending university starting in August. My roommate does not have a car, and we have decided it would be convenient for me and her to share the car when commuting to class. Currently, we are both insured under our parents' policies and we live/go to school in California.

My parents are alright with the idea, but they want to be sure that if my roommate got into an accident with my car, our family's rates would not go up and our insurance would not be sought after, only my roommate's. Is there a way to make this possible? I am not considering permissive use because she will be using the car too frequently to be considered permissive use.

    More like ELI5 for insurances

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:29 PM PDT

[FLORIDA] I recently started a job at an optical where I have to call and get authorization from insurances. I was on the phone today and they told me that the patient wasn't eligible to use her insurance until August. She would have to wait. I let the patient know and she told me that she was able to use her vision insurance on February before August with no issue. How was she able to use it before? I understand that some plans are yearly? U can only use it once or twice a year?I thought everyone starts in January .Is that for vision and health? I have health insurance and I have never had an issue going to a doc as many times as I want. I just pay the copayment. What's the difference?
