UPDATE: My girlfriend's co-worker hit her parked car Posted: 29 Jul 2020 04:33 PM PDT Edit: We're in Texas! Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/hzhqiz/my_girlfriends_coworker_hit_her_parked_car_and/ So, the update. The quote came back from the auto shop at $3500 minimum. We find out the co-worker
...what do we do? My girlfriend has Geico and is calling to file a claim today to get all the facts straight. We have pictures of the damage to my girlfriend's car at the scene. We have in a text message from the co-worker: "I backed into your car and left because I had an appointment. I am so sorry." And: "I will be responsible for any damages." Well, this was all well and good until the $3500 quote came back from the auto shop. Co-worker came clean that she cannot pay that, is not insured, and does not have a license. [link] [comments] |
How does a letter of experience work? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:29 AM PDT So I'm buying a house and everything is going smoothly except for the insurance side of things. I'm currently in a house that's part of a trust and insured by Nationwide. Thanks to a family member going crazy, a single claim was filed for theft in 2017. A month later, a family member was injured on the property and called Nationwide to see about filing a claim. That was rejected (this person is also on the policy) and $0 paid out. I was unaware of the injury phone call until last week. Here's where it gets interesting. I have auto coverage through Allstate. They denied me coverage on bundling the house because there are 2 claims on my current house in the trust. How does a claim for $0 prevent me from getting covered? They asked for a Letter of a Experience, but my contact at Nationwide has no idea what that is. Is there anything I can do here? I close on the new place in less than a month. Edit: I'm in SC. Landlord’s Apartment Caught Fire, Forced to Move Out, Dropped By Renters Insurance Co. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:16 AM PDT I'll keep things short! ;) My landlords apartment above mine caught fire due to an electrical fire causing the building to be uninhabitable. I had minimal property damage fortunately, and my renters insurance has covered almost everything. However, I'm getting denied coverage in the future by my current insurer and any other for that matter. Only one company has offered to insure me at a 2,500% premium increase. After doing my own investigation, the bathroom fan that was ruled the cause of the fire was installed without a permit. However this fan was installed before the LL bought building. I'm being told by my insurance broker that renters insurance doesn't work like Auto and fault doesn't really matter when assessing risk in this kind of situation. Is there anything I can do with all of this evidence to get insurance again at a reasonable cost? TLDR: my landlord had a fire in their apartment, it wasn't my fault in the slightest, and my insurance company is dropping me after they finish paying this claim and keep getting denied for coverage. Can I get an insurance company to ignore this claim when assessing risk? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:56 AM PDT hello, I am "enrolled" in denti-cal. I believe through Covered California, and my Medi-cal provider is health net. So, I have healthnet medi-cal, but normal Denti-cal (not from healthnet). I am not sure if just being enrolled into the provider Healthnet means that I actually have insurance. Meaning, if they bill healthnet, would healthnet deny me because I don't have normal Medi-cal? I believe how Medi-cal works is that I have to enroll with a social worker from my county. However, they said the process usually takes 45 days. But healthnet gave me their card already and when i called them they said I am enrolled. I am confused. If I go to the doctors, will I be charged? Did healthnet grant me insurance, or do I still have to wait for the county Medi-cal? [link] [comments] |
Getting and the cost of motorcycle insurance in NYS with a dui Posted: 30 Jul 2020 01:06 AM PDT I'll spare you the details, but three years ago I was in a collision with another car (no one was hurt). When the cops arrived to file a report they smelt alcohol on my breath and I got a dui. It was the biggest mistake of my life and I know I messed up but I paid my dues, learned from my mistakes, and I'm trying to leave my past behind me. Now I'm looking to get a vehicle again, and given that I live in a city a motorcycle is ideal. I had a Florida license when this happened, but I've since moved to Brooklyn and I put my moms Long Island address on my license when I changed it to NY. I figured insurance in NYS would be far cheaper than NYC especially since I'm considered high risk. Other than the DUI, I only have one speeding ticket and a accident for which I was at no fault, both of which were over a decade ago. I already know that my premium is going to be higher than normal. I'm wondering how I would go about getting insured (I already have sr-22), what would be the best insurance agency for someone like me, and what would roughly be the cost of said insurance. Any advice is appreciate, thanks! [link] [comments] |
New employer lied about health insurance contributions Posted: 29 Jul 2020 08:38 PM PDT Just started at a new company a few weeks ago after losing my last job to 2020. When they first sent me the offer, the documentation on health benefits detailed that the employee contribution would be $670/month (including family dependents). I wasn't eligible to enroll at the time I started. The enrollment period just started yesterday. When I went to sign up for that same exact plan, the enrollment site showed the employee contribution is $900/per month, which I absolutely cannot afford. I contacted the support line for the HR system my employer uses. They told me the benefits documentation from my offer was from the previous year, and my employer had changed their terms for this year, so the $900/month is accurate for what I would need to contribute. I've messaged my employer's HR person with documentation for all of this information, but I'm wondering if I have any other recourse if they aren't willing to work with me on this. Thanks. EDIT: I live in MI, my employer is based in Pheonix if that helps. [link] [comments] |
Will collision cover a Rebuilt title? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:01 PM PDT I've got a car with a rebuilt title, I'm about to transfer title to Arkansas. Insurance is in Arkansas. I'm thinking about adding collision, but since it has a rebuilt title I'm afraid it's not worth it. Progressive could not give me a clear answer as to whether I could get anything in a collision. It has passed safety and emissions tests in another state. I only paid $3,500 originally, so I'm skeptical it would be worth it, but I wanted to check. [link] [comments] |
PLEASE HELP: Covered California Insurance Confusion Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:48 PM PDT I found out on 7/16 that I am permanently laid off from my job. I was told I'd have my work health benefits until the end of the month. This week I applied for a marketplace health plan to start in August through Covered California. I entered all my info in correctly, but I'm seeing that my health care plan effective start date is the 1st of September. I'm so confused! I need coverage to start the 1st of August. I can't risk going a month without insurance right now. Is this a mistake on Covered California's part? I'm going to call in the morning because they are closed now, but I'm freaking out because it makes no sense to me that they would expect me to skip a month of coverage, especially when I'm applying before August has even started. My qualifying life event was loss of employer based coverage. Has this happened to anyone else? I couldn't find any info about something like this, but it says on their website that coverage should start the 1st of the month after you've enrolled. Some life events seem to require you to enroll by the 15th, but not for loss of insurance. It seems insane that they'd expect people to simply be okay with agreeing to skipping a month of coverage. Do you think a call with them when they're open would be able to fix this error? Thanks for any insight, and stay safe everyone! [link] [comments] |
Maybe I was a race car driver in a past life . . . Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:15 PM PDT My car insurance policy went up this year because I currently have 3 speeding tickets on my record - 2 from 2018 and one from 2019. Traffic infractions stay on your record for 3 years and then "fall off" (at least this is how it works in Ontario, Canada). When my policy increased I called the insurance company to inquire about it and the rep told me that if I got another ticket I would be considered "high risk" and they may not be able to insure me. Well . . . I got another ticket today. 20km/h over the limit. So what does this mean? When my policy renews in July 2021, the two 2018 tickets will be removed but when does the insurance company find out about the 2020 ticket? If it's also at renewal, I should be fine, right? Because that will be two tickets on my record. Any info is helpful! And I know, slowing down is likely just best case going forward. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:03 PM PDT So my car was totaled. my question is my gap coverage effective from the date my car was totaled or form the date they process the paperwork. I ask because it's taking the insurance awhile to process the claim and have already made a car payment. So should I get the car payment back? [link] [comments] |
What type of insurance do I need and what to look out for when getting this insurance? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 06:13 PM PDT Hello fellow redditor and advisors, I hope you all are safe and well during these times. I am in abit of a roadblock for my company. My start up hosts automotive racing/ driving events (similar to autocross racing) in short. The events will be held biweekly. The issue I have is I dont know what type of insurance I need to cover my a**. I looked into it and the insurance type that kept popping up is comemrical insurance, which is a general insurance for a company/event. Would this be the correct insurance to use for my event. If not, what would be? If so, what's do I need to look out for when getting this kind of insurance? Thanks for all your help and input in advance. Let me know if you need me specify on anything. My start up would be located in Canada, Ontario [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:06 AM PDT Trying to be prepared in case it happens. State is New York. Imagine a situation where a fender bender happens and the other driver is at fault. No personal injury. Damage is $500-1000/car, not worth it to report to insurance. Other driver immediately admits fault and asks me to settle without involving insurance. I'm willing to comply as I don't want my insurance rate to increase (if let's say they find something like I was doing 5 mph over the speed limit and thereby I was 10% at fault), and then there's also human decency: I wouldn't want to screw over the other driver with their insurance rates. This is the starting point. What do I do now? Can you help me come up with something like a check list? Like what to do at the accident site? What information to get from the other driver? What details can I actually expect to get from them? What to record/take photos of? What if two days later the other driver realizes they don't want to admit fault anymore? Can I rack up enough evidence to comfortably win the case if this happened? Can I have some written legal documents printed in advance and ready for the other party at fault to sign right after the accident to ensure I cannot be screwed over later? Any insight would be much appreciated. By the way, as a small additional detail I have a front-looking dashcam in my car. Bonus question: what if the situation is inverted: I'm at fault and both parties are willing to settle without insurance. What should I look out for? [link] [comments] |
Multiple named insured, one check Posted: 29 Jul 2020 04:49 PM PDT I am one of two named insured on homeowners' insurance for a condo where I am also a tenant. There was a fire and we are maxing out the coverage limits. What are the rules that govern how the money is to be divided among the named insured? The two checks(property and contents) are being made out to both of us. I am mostly concerned about contents coverage. The other party didn't maintain their appliances(old dryer is the cause of fire) despite numerous requests. Fire department marked the fire as accidental, don't know about the insurance fire investigators. I doubt I'd have grounds to sue for negligence, dryer igniting is a common enough occurence. So, at this point I am specifically concerned about how the claim should be settled and how money is to be divided now, not theoretical negligence claims against the landlord. Could they get all new appliances out of this and I be not recompensed for the damage to my property? As I am physically disabled, I brought in a contractor to do an inventory for me. However, it appears they inventoried only a portion of my possessions, but all of landlord's long broken appliances and submitted this directly to insurance. I may be muddying the waters here, but I do not have an ownership stake in the apartment. However, the insurer confirmed to me multiple times that I am covered not just as a "resident relative", but, in fact, named insured, just not primary. [Massachusetts] [link] [comments] |
Regarding SEF 44 in Nova Scotia Posted: 29 Jul 2020 12:50 PM PDT I was wondering if anyone knows if I use SEF 44 in case the drivers insurance isn't enough to cover my claim. If it'll make my parents insurance go up? I was living with them at the time but wasn't insured on any vehicles. If you need more info I will disclose them in the comments. Thank you in advance [link] [comments] |
False Insurance Claim Against Me?? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 04:16 PM PDT Hello all, I am a young and fairly new driver and I want to preface my statement by saying I definitely made quite a few mistakes in this situation. Also I am located in the state of Georgia. On Friday, July 24th at around 2:30 pm I backed into another vehicle in a supermarket parking lot. It was just a tap, and there was no visible damage to either vehicle (save a fingernail-sized scratch on my car) since it was my first fender bender and I was in distress, I didn't handle it very well, meaning I did not take the other person's information or take photos, I just gave them my insurance information even though they stated they would not be filing a claim, I just believed they were being honest, and we both parted ways (I know now that was REALLY stupid). Fast forward to today and I see I have missed a call from my insurance company stating that a claim has been made against me for an accident that happened today at around 3:30 pm. I didn't even leave the house today, in fact, I was in a meeting (I work from home) at the time of the alleged "accident". I also know that the claim was filed by the person who I backed into, due to the vehicle listed on the claim. I have to wait until tomorrow to call back as the office is currently closed, but is there anything else I should do in this situation?? I took photos of the back of my car to show that there is literally no damage. I also wanted to ask if this is going to affect my insurance rate, even if the claim is proven to be false. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Mom's accidents showing up when I try to buy my own policy. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 03:49 PM PDT Location Texas, USA So I've always been on my mom's auto insurance policy just because it was easy and just never something I worried about. I recent realized that I was paying way too much when asking friends and co workers how much their car insurance was. I decided to get some quotes and found a couple that would bring my monthly average down by about 50%. Once I was ready to pay for my policy it pulled up my accident history that included all my sister's and moms reported incidents. I had nothing to do with these but they caused the price I was quoted to go way up. I'm honestly clueless when it comes to insurance so idk what to do in this situation. I have been driving for 12 years and had one at fault accident four years ago. No other accidents and no traffic tickets of any kind. Any advice on what to do and how to properly purchase insurance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Got into fender bender and progressive insurance claims total loss. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 03:43 PM PDT The other parts insurance said they will cover repairs. I chose to have my car sent to auto body shop. "It sat for two days" I went and got it today since I can't afford to lose my only car. Insurance calls me saying two options to either salvage the title and lose car for a low ball, or B keep the car, salvage the title to receive compensation.( I have full coverage) I can't salvage the title as it is my daily driver! What should I do I seem to have got my self into aloop. (car still drives fine but feels different and wore in, idk what auto body what could have done in two days) US DAYTON,OH [link] [comments] |
Can an insurance company suspend a drivers license? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:34 PM PDT So my girlfriend was in an accident a year ago and she had to pay State Farm $5,000 but now money is extremely tight cause of COVID-19. They keep calling her everyday and harassing her if she does not make a payment they will suspend her license. My question is can they even do that? I thought the only one that can suspend is the government. Oh and we are from AZ. [link] [comments] |
Dealership Cancelled Gap Insurance Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:33 PM PDT I bought my first car CPO from Toyota and got gap insurance. Just yesterday I got a letter from Toyota saying that my GAP coverage is being refunded for $1050.00 and a check is being mailed to me due to an account being closed. (I did not cancel it). I phoned Toyota Financial Sevices (TFS) and they said that my GAP insurance is from Gulf Coast since the car was originally purchased in Florida and Texas has a different GAP provider (I bought my car in Texas). I called them and they said the dealership canceled the GAP insurance due to early payout, I asked the lady why if I only made one payment and she said I would have to call the dealership where I got the car since that was the only information that was available to her. I tried to call the dealership and it rings for a while and says the number is not a working number, I tried 2 times. I waited a minute and called again and then it says to wait for an operator. I waited about 5 minutes but I'm at work so I hung up. I'm going to go by the dealership after work and see what is going on. Any thoughts on this? Also, there are 2 accounts listed when I call TFS, one is closed and another is open which is the one I made a payment on, the closed one says it's payed out and a title is being mailed. The car is a 2019 Toyota Camry LE Any thoughts are greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
Texas - is it worth repairing an expensive parking lot collision? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:28 PM PDT In Texas - my girlfriend's parked car was hit by her co-worker. The quote from an auto shop was about $3500, when her car is worth maybe $4200-$5000. The co-worker doesn't want to go through insurance, but we are going to try to since the repair cost is so high. Is this car even worth repairing? What are our options dealing with and without insurance in this situation? Would we be able to take the insurance $$$ and put it toward a new (used) car? No idea how any of this works... thanks. [link] [comments] |
Change from cash pay to insurance Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:22 PM PDT Hi there - I previously purchased some medication and chose to cash pay, not using insurance. If I change my mind after the fact, is it possible to have my insurance charged? Although the cost under my insurance is significantly higher than the cash pay option, it will ultimately gets me closer to my deductible. [link] [comments] |
Can someone help me compare/contrast two health insurance plans, please? (Small business, Texas) Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:16 AM PDT Hi, we are up for our annual enrollment and I'm tasked with finding the three plans to offer the employees. I'm fairly well versed in insurance as I've done this the last few years but I'm far from an expert. For our "best" plan I have two options I'm weighing. The monthly payment is a difference of $28.49 total, which is less than $15 for the employee so it's marginal enough to not be the deciding factor. They are both HMOs with BCBS. Neither cover out of network so these are all in network coverages. Option 1: $250 deductible, $25 office copay, 80% coinsurance, $1250 out of pocket maximum, $300 ER copay w/ 80% coins., $150 inpatient copay, $100 OP surgery copay Option 2: $0 deductible, $25 office copay, 100% coinsurance, $7350 out of pocket max, $750 ER copay w/ 100% coins, $150 inpatient copay, $100 OP surgery copay There are two things I'm kind of stuck on. Option 1's way better out of pocket maximum and Option 2's ER costs. Also, with all those copays on option 2 it seems that basically the way to get to the OOP max is with copay since the coinsurance is 100%, so that OOP max doesn't seem so bad if that's the case. If it were you, which plan would you rather have? I feel like I'm comparing identical twins who have different birth marks or something. [link] [comments] |
Trying to decide if new car replacement coverage is worth it. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 12:31 PM PDT It adds $100 dollars per year to my premium approximately , in exchange for 20% above ACV in a total loss. My understanding is if the ACV was $20,000 it would give me $4000 in addition to that. So basically as I understand it would give me the ability to replace the car including fees and tax, where as the normal coverage would not. Is it as simple as that or am I overlooking something? Recommendations? [link] [comments] |
Changing Drivers license temporarily, do I need to notify car insurance? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 12:26 PM PDT I currently live in IL, but this winter I plan on doing an internship in Washington D.C. with my school (unless the pandemic gets worse). Part of my internship requires driving, and because of it I will need to get a Washington D.C. license. It is supposed to last from December to next May, and after that I will return home to Chicago, where I will change back to an IL license. I don't plan on taking my car with me. My car insurance is under my parents account with their cars. Will everything remain the same? Or will they have to edit their car insurance policy or remove me? I just want to make sure I won't screw up our insurance policy. [link] [comments] |
