    RIP to college towns

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:13 PM PDT

There's a new order that in summary, sends international students back home if their classes are online this fall. This is unjust as some live in an opposite timezone, and when classes are 3pm here, it would be 3am there. Hard link right here, but feel free to discuss your thoughts on how this could impact the market.

    More RE-closures in many states

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:02 AM PDT

Many states have rolled back their opening plans, and some are actually moving backward and closing things up again. But, China is doing fine, which means everything is good to go in the US as well....

US Real Estate ETF VNQ has a really low R-Squared and correlation to the index?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:19 PM PDT

I ideally want to have all of my funds closely track the index by having an R-Squared of 1.0 and a Beta of 1 or higher but how low is too low for a fund such as VNQ? It does have a Beta of .80 but the R-Squared seems like a cutoff. When you buy funds, is having a high R-squared and Beta a must?

    Content Delivery Network (CDN) providers

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:22 PM PDT

Akamai (AKAM) is a major player in this industry with a strong leadership team. However, it's been shifting its priorities to the cybersecurity sector as its big clients moving to in-house CDN. What do you guys think of this company as long term investment? Will newer companies such as Fastly and CloudFlare keep stealing its clients?

    Largest Bankruptcies So Far

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:50 AM PDT

    https://fortune.com/2020/06/29/companies-filing-bankruptcy-2020-during-coronavirus-pandemic-covid-19-economy-industries/

"We are seeing an acceleration in bankruptcies that is unprecedented," said James Hammond, CEO of New Generation Research, which runs BankruptcyData. For 2020, he says, "I'm pretty confident we will see more bankruptcies than in any businessperson's lifetime."

Ranked by assets alone, says Hammond, the magnitude of bankruptcies this year has already surpassed that of 2008. And that's not including what could happen when the government's Paycheck Protection Program, which aims to keep small businesses up and running with loans that can be converted to grants if certain terms are met, runs out."

    Reverse split

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:49 PM PDT

So I've owned imlff (inMed pharmaceutical)stock for about 1 year. Bought at $.97 a share and it dropped to $.18 a share where it held steady. This morning it jumped to over $6.00 a share and said it was a reverse split but after 2 hours I can't trade on it and it looks like I'm locked out from doing anything with it. Anyone have any idea what is going on with it today?

Top 5 Things To Watch In The Stock Market This Week

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:24 AM PDT

    US Stock Futures Moving Sideways

On Sunday evening, the Dow Jones Industrial Average futures have ticked up 90 points, while S&P 500 futures are up 8 points. Nasdaq Composite futures are up 0.4%. These stock index futures were little changed, ahead of Wall Street's return from a three-day holiday weekend. During the holiday-shortened week, the Dow rose 3.3%, the S&P 500 gained 4%, while Nasdaq advanced 4.6%. Although the gains on Sunday evening are not large ones, they are already better than what many expected. After all, they are not in negative territory. Perhaps, it should be praised as "strong performance" considering the weekend's surge in coronavirus cases.

But if we look at the stock indexes over the past few months, we are now back to the June 8 peak level. While this doesn't seem like a big deal, the market could be signaling that it could be the end of the crazy volatility. Or it could be nothing, as stock prices can often move without obvious reasons. We humans can be fooled by randomness quite often.

Coronavirus Cases Continue To Spike In The Sun Belt Region

Over the weekend, the World Health Organization said that there were more than 200,000 confirmed cases over a 24-hour span, an alarming record. In the U.S., Florida, and Texas reported daily record spikes of 11,445 and 8,258, respectively, on Saturday. Should the trend in confirmed cases continue, we can expect it to overwhelm many cities' hospitals in the coming two weeks. For this reason, the reopening momentum we saw in the stock market could slow down from the spike in Covid-19 cases. This may be suggesting a bearish outlook for stocks among investors as we have yet to be able to contain Covid-19 yet.

    Earnings To Watch This Week

The reporting season kicks off mid-July. Wall Street is as clueless as it has ever been on what earnings will look like. Analysts still have no idea what earnings companies will be reporting. In fact, no one knows how companies could perform in the coming quarters, including the executives themselves. With less than half of S&P 500 companies offering guidance, the disconnect between analysts' estimates has rarely been wider.

Although the second-quarter earnings season is starting next week, here are a few that are reporting their earnings this week. Levi Strauss releases earnings Tuesday, Bed, Bath, and Beyond Wednesday, and Walgreens Boots Alliance report Thursday.

Can Gold Price Breach $2,000 This Week?

Gold prices hit the $1,800 mark this month. This move is mainly a result of the Fed's loose monetary policy due to coronavirus. The ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US and China also contributed to gold's ascent. Looking back at the past decade, gold prices have been rallying since the last quarter of 2018. It is the longest quarterly run since the 2007 financial crisis.

Judging from the momentum, it is reasonable to assume that the gold price may continue its momentum for another few quarters. Of course, the gain in the near-term would very much depend on the Covid-19 situation. Many are assuming that a vaccine is unlikely to be available any time soon. Thus, the uneven economy reopening is going to limit the recovery investors have been hoping for. With the continuous monetary policy support, we are expecting to see a weaker dollar in the near-term. A weak dollar is good for the gold price.

    ISM non-manufacturing

The Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) non-manufacturing index measures employment trends, prices, and new orders in non-manufacturing industries. In other words, investors watch the index for signals for economic growth and corporate profits. The data for the month of June will be available Monday morning. Economists expect the index to rise to a 50.0 from 45.4 in May, according to Bloomberg.

Though the services sector likely saw a bounce in activity during June due to reopenings, the level still remains well below what it was pre-COVID. "If the ISM non-manufacturing index for June is also above 50, this would be yet another sign that economic activity bottomed out in April and has been on a steady upward ascent since," a note from Wells Fargo Securities.

One way to help economy with unemployment reporting in China

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:27 AM PDT

China has a high unemployment especially from new college graduates. Rather creating jobs for them, bureau classify day traders, gamers, and internet bloggers as EMPLOYED.

The official unemployment rate is 5.9%. That does not include 8.7 million 2020 college graduates. The migrant workers numbering 290 millions are not included in the unemployment either. Many have experienced job loss from Covid and Trade War factory closures.

Teenager Looking to Make Potentially Smarter Moves w/ $3k

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 10:45 AM PDT

so I've been in the market since March of this year right after the market crashed, as I've been saving up for a while for a good time to jump in and it seemed like the perfect time. I started w/ $2k, putting ~$1000 into SPY, ~$500 into BEP, and ~$500 into T. Since then I've recently invested >$500 into UAL @ 32.23. My holdings are now worth $3k, and I still have $150 in my trading account that I haven't spent yet. SPY BEP and UAL have all performed very well and am planning to hold them for a while, but T has been really underperforming comparing to the others. Still would come out w/ a net positive after selling it, but wondering on your thoughts of advice for my portfolio. Any advice appreciated, thank you!

Nio's stock rockets toward a near 2-year high after upbeat report on June sales.

Nio's stock is up 219% YTD - do you think this has strengthened its position as a strong competitor for Tesla?

    De-listing Chinese stocks

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 08:16 AM PDT

I was reading this article here:

    www.barrons.com/amp/articles/vulnerable-stocks-if-us-pushes-to-delist-chinese-companies-51593807247?

Might seem like a newbie question but...

Should that sort of bill pass the house, what happens should BABA become de listed? I own a few shares and am enjoying my 6% gains today.

If it were to happen, would my shares be stuck in limbo? Would they automatically be sold? The article doesnt really clarify, and I can't find an answer on the SEC pages or anything like that.

Tl;dr - BABA may get de listed by the Gov. What do?

A simple sortable listing NASDAQ entries

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 11:52 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a very simple and basic website displaying entries with possibility to sort and compare. Something like coinmarketcap for cryptocurrencies where I could see all 3000+ entries and sort them by market cap, price, volume and change.

Is there anything out there not unnecessarily over bloated?

    Thank you

Do you have stop orders on your stocks?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:23 AM PDT

It seems that if your stock is much higher than original purchase point, there's no point to not have a stop order set at your original buying price.

Is this a normal or bad strategy?

The five largest stocks now account for 20% of the S&P 500 market cap, exceeding the 18% concentration level reached during the dot-com bubble.

The stock market has been propped up by a handful of mega-cap companies leading into the coronavirus pandemic. Historically, such narrow breadth is a poor signal for future market returns, Goldman Sachs said.

Watchlist: 7/6 Changing World Electric Vehicles

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:16 AM PDT

    Market Notes:

Customer demands are changing and we will have a better idea of the direction of those changes after earnings season passes. Earnings season is starting this week.

TSLA delivered some early results showing consumer demand for electric vehicles (EV) is rising. This is one of the most hated and shorted sectors of the market so I'm watching for short squeezes.

Futures are higher this morning and will likely be opening at or above key resistance. I'm watching for a bull trend to be established on the day.

    Watchlist:

ELTK is a low float, watching for a setup above $5

SEED is a low float, watching for a setup above $9

JOB is a low float, on watch

FUV is a low float, EV play, support at $7

SOLO is an EV play, support at $3.50

VUZI watching for a setup above $3

    LPCN key level at $1.30

    LLNW has resistance at $8

NIO is an EV play, on watch
