Is anyone constantly asking themselves “what should I do”?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 03:59 PM PDT

Is anyone constantly asking themselves "what should I do" or catching themselves with all these great ideas and NEVER FUCKING ACTING ON IT? What's the next step? Im trying to stop the cycle that I'm constantly getting myself into and I'm realizing that it's gotten me nowhere for the past year or two.. has anyone successfully snagged to open a business that had the same ideas overcame it? What am I missing? Is it being afraid of commitment?

If you were starting Facebook today, and didn't want to monetise through spammy advertisements or selling user data, what business model would you look into?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 11:33 PM PDT

The world is becoming less receptive to advertisements that ruin the user experience, and privacy is becoming more of a concern. However, the majority of people still wouldn't register for new "social" platforms if they had to pay.

If you were building a social media platform in today's world, what business models would you explore, and what strategies would you use to monetise from your userbase?

What does one call the type of raising capital when one sells a royalty per sale for a given amount of time/sales?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 08:54 AM PDT

I've seen it on Shark Tank, when Mr. O'Leary asks for (x)$ per sale for the next (n) sales. Obviously he wants this in addition to equity but I was just interested to know what one calls this "promise". I mean there are bank loans, debentures, shares etc. Is there a name for selling "royalty"? Or does one just call it royalty? Thanks in advance!

    Building a startup for $100

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 02:33 AM PDT

I noticed there are a lot of "entrepreneurs" on Facebook hosting seminars that they started a business with little to no money.

Anyone here who started similarly? What was your startup about? I just want to know if it's actually possible and not some marketing tactic that people say.

    Word Of Mouth and Research

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 01:14 AM PDT

Hello great entrepreneurs I need some first hand information, from people who are there or have been there

Those who have provided services specifically SaaS to the Restaurant(Eatery) market . Does word of mouth go a long way like how it does in consumer apps? Also, Startup guides insist that you should find out if your market or target customers/clients are spenders i.e. they have no problem spending for a solution. So, in the restaurant (eatery) market/space are they "spenders"??

What is the right way to transfer assets to a company I own?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 05:13 PM PDT

I've recently started a C Corp and need to understand what to do with the app I've been developing for years now. The list of assets I have right now include a mobile app, a back-end server app, cloud infrastructure, an email box, web domains, and so on. I'm currently the only owner in the company.

Since other people here might have had prior experience with similar things, I'd like to know if there is anything I need to do to give ownership of these things to the company in a legal way.

How did you design a home page for your saas or web app?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 03:48 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I'm in the planning/MVP building process of my web app for hospitals. I'm stuck on thinking about how to construct the home page. I'm hoping to make it inviting so customers are more likely to request a demo. I don't want to start from scratch trying to figure out what will convert and what will not.

I have looked at competitors' websites and they are too busy because competitors have too many futures. My innovation in this product comes from specialization so I can not do what my competitors are doing.

What should I consider when designing the home page? What are good practices?

    Thank you!

What do you do on your “off” days.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 07:17 AM PDT

I'm a sole proprietor with plans to grow my business. The demands of running each aspect of the business are high and I rarely have time to relax. There's also the added self-stigma that if I do relax, I'm neglecting something.

My company is pretty project based and I put a lot of effort, energy and endorphins into their completion. This usually results in an energy crash at the end of each project. I call it post-project depression—obviously I try not to dwell here too long and move on to the next project.

I'm finding the cycle to be exhausting (but that's typical, right?) and I'm just curious what other project based companies do during project gaps.

    Lease during Covid era

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 10:59 PM PDT

    Hello startups,

I used to own a business (dance studio) with an ex partner. Started in 2011, 5 year lease signed. In 2017 addendum to original lease adding partner and extending to feb 2022. In 2018 partner stole the business from me by opening a new bank account and moving business activity to new Acct. I have not had physical participation in the business since June 2018.

Covid hits and he stops paying rent cuz business is closed down. He is in the process of renegotiating the lease but I want to make sure that I am not held liable for the lease on a business I no longer own or operate.

Spoke with a lawyer who was only interested in long term billing and didn't help me at all.

Business is in California. Any one have some advice on how to protect myself?

How can I make a Figma/Adobe XD prototype of my existing app?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 07:48 PM PDT

I currently have an iOS app on the app store and I would like to switch gears to have it developed in react native. Ideally I would like to create a clickable prototype with Figma or Adobe XD, such that I can send this prototype to potential developers.

The issue is that a large number of the assets in my app were hard coded or part of the underlying Xcode design. For example, I have buttons, headers, etc that doesn't exist in the Assets folder in Xcode. I also do not want to just screenshot each of the parts of my app, as it will be just one entire image, vs one which has many overlaid assets and layers.

What is the best way to get something like this done? I know normally people want the opposite (going from prototype to app).

Which companies built 'what the customers wanted' but the money never followed?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 07:38 PM PDT

As they say, "Build what the customers want and the money will follow". Who did this and the money didn't come? What was the reason?

It is often suggested that if you build something your customers want, it will be very easy to make money. I am not sure it is as easy they put it. I am sure there are certain pitfalls that could ruin a good product. The first kme that comes to mind is price. I know there are plenty others. I am looking for real life examples where good products didn't succeed and why they didn't succeed

How are revenue shares typically structured accounting wise?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 07:10 PM PDT

Came across this conflict with my investor recently and my accountants don't have experience so I'm wondering if anyone else here has experience.

My sole investor (15%) has 4% revenue share with my company. The problem is how is this money distributed? His accountant told him to charge my company a "4% consultant fee", but we have to pay sales tax on it, which seems wrong. It especially feels wrong because rev share is done so often in tech (ie affiliates) but I don't know how this is recorded.

    Anyone have experience?

How do a shift from developer/product builder to salesperson?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 01:48 PM PDT

I'm at the point with my product that I'm ready to start gauging interest by offering pre-launch subscriptions. The problem that I'm facing is that I have a fear of copy writing. I'm concerned that my launch page will fail to convert because I don't understand the fundamentals well enough to write copy that results in a new client.

Is there a fundamental guide that I can follow to write solid copy? If I'm not so lucky, what's step one to becoming a conversion pro?

Hiring my own developer or outsource it?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 12:15 PM PDT

I have been working on an idea since the start of this crazy pandemic season. My startup is sort of marketplace for local businesses. It's like instacart but in hyperlocal model. I have professional background in finance in VC, and marketing communications. So, to be honest tech is not my big forte. Now, lately I'm having difficulty deciding if I should go for hiring my own app developer or software engineers or just outsource it. If I go for hiring what kind of developer should I go for? Any tips, suggestions, advice and criticisms would be much appreciated.

Should I create the ability to publish ads inside a mobile app or on a website?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 12:22 PM PDT

I need to create functionality to promote posts in a social media app similar to what many other apps do. I'd like to know whether creating this experience in an iOS app will allow Apple to demand their 30% cut. Has any other startup owner faced a similar challenge before? Should ad purchasing be done on an external website? I emailed Apple, but they came back with some BS response asking me to first submit the app for approval before they can decide. The thing is, creating a basic functionality like this will take 2 months of development. I'm trying not to waste time, hence the email in the first place.

How do I come up with an idea of a MicroSAAS service in a Hyper Niche?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 11:13 AM PDT

Not getting enough gigs in doing freelancing and various factors does not allow me to apply for a job. So, I guess I should work on a startup.

I am on lecture 15 of 20 part lectures of "How to start a startup". They have established the concept of the startup idea based on these criteria -

    1. Focus on a niche
    2. Be part of the community of that niche
    3. Try to dominate that niche first

But I am having difficulty in finding ideas. I am interested in the process of coming up with ideas that best suit my interest and the following criteria.

Did you have an epiphany that you wanted to start a business ? Were you sure that you wanted start a business in X industry?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 06:13 AM PDT

    Hello everyone ,

I feel like I'm stuck trying to find the thing or my niche to build a business on.

As a kid I used to dream about owning factories and businesses.

I have a knack for efficiency and productivity. Until know I have interned nin about 4 companies and have helped em get organized and brought forward suggestions where it can be improved and optimised.

When I work in a company , I don't work like an employee , I work as an entrepreneur , making sure of documentation and having clear and proper communication , looking for new and improved ways to do things , checking of any liability of any software. Etc

I love to help in it even if I'm not hires for that role. All the companies I have worked with have been small startups in tech industry. I'm a computer science undergraduate.

It's Just I want to own and be responsible for some impactful company. I'm 21 and I just feel like time is running away and I can't waste time. I don't want to be stuck at this "exploration phase" I just know I want to build business. I am learning finances and about legal stuff needed for a company , reading books , watching documentaries etc.

I just know I can build it , but I don't know in which industry or on what problem do I really want to solve?

Please if you have any guidance or any resources just about anything that could help me please share. I'll be very grateful.

I just want to know , do people have this "Eureka" moment that they want to start a business in a particular industry or Am I chasing something that doesn't exist?

Thank you very much in advance! Have a wonderful day , take care.
