[MICHIGAN] When can I remove a totaled car from my policy? Posted: 31 Jul 2020 04:30 AM PDT My boyfriend is on my policy along with his vehicle. There is an active auto loan on his vehicle. Long story short, he totaled his car on July 11, 2020. He is at fault. Insurance (Esurance) deemed it a total loss about a week later. Late last week, they sent a $3.5k check to his loan company, and then told us once they process paperwork, they will release another $950 payment as the remainder of the payout. Once they sent that $950 payment, my boyfriend will owe maybe $65 total on the loan. I asked the adjuster a week ago but never received a response. I'd like to remove his totaled car from my policy, but I don't know if I need to wait until Esurance gets the title (once my boyfriend makes his $65 payment, when Esurance pays the other half that they promised), or if I can safely remove the vehicle now and it won't mess anything up. Any idea? [link] [comments] |
Did I make the wrong decision on who to report to? Posted: 31 Jul 2020 02:48 AM PDT Hey guys! So recently I got my insurance about two months ago, and lets just so far after moving to a very busy city my luck with driving has been really bad. A month back I hit a road debris that caused undercarriage damage to car and I had to file a claim with Progressive to get it repaired. This marks my first At-Fault Accident. I got it repaired and my cars nice and working again. Three weeks later and well happened yesterday, a guy was backing up from the parking lot while my car was stopped and hit my car (he didn't back out without safety and the police report deemed him at fault). Immediately since this is what I believe to be my first non-fault accident I didn't know what to do but I went ahead and called my insurance and filed with them and also filed with the at fault driver's insurance. Was I supposed to do this? I heard that simply making a report or filing will raise my insurance regardless who is at fault. My insurance representive (after looking all the evidence and files) had deemed that I will likely not be at fault at all since my car was at a complete stop but will be discussing with the other at fault insurance agent that I made a file with. I made it very clear to my representive that I didn't want them to pay out anything until everything was done so I can just get a payout from the at fault insurance. Basically, was it wrong of me to have made a claim for a non fault accident with the intention to not get a payout from my own insurance company? Please let me know cause honestly, I've been having real bad luck in my life and I'm considering taking a defensive driving course despite not being at fault for this recent accident. EDIT in response to the bot: this was in Dallas, Texas! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:21 AM PDT Our daughter came to us at the end of last month to let us know that she needed professional help and did not know where to turn for drug addiction. She had told us she'd been using Xanax, other prescription drugs, and extreme doses of Benadryl to get high. We got her into an inpatient rehabilitation facility for teenage girls, and her recovery has thankfully been going well despite her also admitting after a couple weeks there that she had also become addicted to other harder drugs like cocaine, LSD, and had tried heroin. We received a telephone call this morning from the facility stating that they are denying her remaining 14 days of treatment because it is "no longer medically necessary" for her to remain in the program and that she is ready for outpatient treatment. The company was informed that the local area we live in does not offer any sort of outpatient treatment options and that the program she is in is designed to be a full 45 days long. The provider is filing an appeal this afternoon, however if the appeal is denied we will have to pull her from the program by the middle of the afternoon tomorrow. We spoke with her via Zoom meeting with her assigned therapist and she is terrified of relapsing due to missing out on the final two weeks of the program that she is being denied. Do we have any legal options that we can pursue to get her the coverage that she will need, or are we simply at the mercy of what the insurance company decides? Edit: We are located in South Texas; our insurance is through Blue Cross / Blue Shield of California, and they have been working through a company called Magellan. [link] [comments] |
Where to send electronics to prove damage was caused by power surge? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:59 PM PDT Long story short I had a handful of items get destroyed by a power surge from a bad storm yesterday. I pay a couple bucks a month with my energy provider for "surge protection insurance" which basically allows me $5,000 per claim up to $10,000 per year 0 deductible 100% repaid for the costs of replacing anything if damaged by a power surge. In order to file a claim, I need "proof" from a technician of sorts that the items in question were in fact damaged due to a power surge. Where would I go to do this? Geek squad? I literally need someone to run a quick diagnostic on these things and go "yup, power surge caused this" so I can file my claim w the energy provider. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
TX — What do you wish you knew before accepting a payout for a totaled vehicle? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:42 PM PDT Welp, my car was totaled :'( Car was a 2010 Malibu, ~150,000 miles. What should I expect from third-party for payout? Can I negotiate with them or is their payout offer the final say? Anything you wish you knew before you accepted a payout? Thanks in advance! :) [link] [comments] |
Can my mom prevent me from using her insurance? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:45 PM PDT I'm on my mom's health insurance policy until I'm 25. I'm transgender and trying to receive top surgery in the next couple years, but my mom isn't supportive. I'd prefer to use her insurance rather than the policy I have through my job, which I doubt would cover as much. Is there a way she can prevent me from using her insurance for my surgery? Edit: insured in Alabama, might have surgery in a different state [link] [comments] |
Car was stolen and recovered, insurance company requesting both original keys Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:52 PM PDT I live in California. My car stolen and recovered 2 weeks later. They took the catalytic converter, the battery and stole some personal items inside the car. As soon as I discovered the car with stolen I filed a police report and notified my insurance company. The car is an older model which I bought new and was paid off in full years ago. I've been cooperating in full with my insurance company and I've provided all the documents they've requested. The only problem is they've asked to see both original keys to the vehicle and I can't find the second key. I've moved a few times within the past 10 years and I have no idea where it could be. I'm afraid that if I can't produce the second key they will suspect that I was somehow implicated. The value of the car is pretty low so I'm not sure what I would have to gain. Also there's no body damage just the parts they stole, so I'm hoping to just get it fixed. What happens if I don't find the other key? Can they reject my claim? [link] [comments] |
Berkshire Hathaway Guard Homeowners Insurance Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:38 PM PDT I'm currently shopping around for homeowners insurance on my first home. I've been looking at a few quotes and was referred to BHG. Rates are competitive, except they only insure liability up to $500k. Aside from that, they can match other needs, and price seems right. BBB has terrible reviews, but I can't find anything else on them from real customers. If anyone out there has some experience with them and wouldn't mind sharing, I'd appreciate it! I don't understand deductibles. Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:20 PM PDT I have a $2,000 deductible, yet my booklet that explains my benefits say that if I go to a preferred provider that I will only pay the copay of $30. Is this only in the case that the bill is higher than $2,000 or is it that every time I go to the doctor that it counts towards the $2,000 and then it's covered? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:27 PM PDT I have a homeowners policy with Nat Gen in California, with mold coverage that has a $10k limit. We have a bathtub, and the plumbing started leaking where the tub spout meets the pipe in the wall. We discovered this when we noticed that the laminate floors in the two bedrooms adjacent to either end of the bathtub started warping. The bedroom closets back up to either end of the tub. I pulled up the flooring, and found water under the laminate, and mold behind the baseboards in both bedrooms. Called insurance co and filed a claim. They have sent out a leak detection company that cut into one of the bedroom walls behind the tub plumbing and found the leak. Adjuster has told me it will be a covered loss since it started leaking within the last two weeks per the leak detection report. Today they sent out a mold mitigation guy. He looked at the mold, and tomorrow they are coming out at 7:30 am to start removing drywall, closet casings, more baseboards, and laminate flooring. One room has wainscoting that will probably also be pulled up to check for mold. It's glued to the drywall, so it's not something that can just be popped off and reassembled. This will allow them to also look under the tub and see what's going on there, and see if the tub needs to be removed, in which case the whole tub/tile/shower is going to come out. So I'm wondering where they are going to draw the lines on water damage and mold, as the latter has that $10k limit, and this is obviously going to get expensive. The flooring and baseboards are all clearly water damaged. But the drywall, wainscoting, and closet casings maybe just mold. Is there anything I should be asking, saying or doing with regard to the mold mitigation people or my adjuster to ensure that my coverage is maximized, and I can get made fully whole for this damage? Is this something I even need to be concerned about? Thanks!!!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:40 PM PDT So a claim was filed for home insurance since we had a few damages from a hurricane this past weekend. I'm being told by a friend that I should find a public adjuster that will basically "fight" for more money to cover everything. How true is this and how do I go about finding one? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:00 PM PDT I recently looked for car insurance on my dads car he just bought. It's a 2001 Altima He wants to insure me, him, and my mother. He has been with geico for over 15 years and hasn't had any legal driving citations. I got my license when I was 16, and I'm 17. We live in Illinois. If I insure myself, it's around $240/month. If he insured all 3 of us, it's around $80/month. Is this too good to be true? Or is going under your parents policy supposed to be this cheap? [link] [comments] |
Homeowners Insurance Cancelled - Questions About Getting a New Policy on a Substandard Property Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:14 PM PDT My cousin told me today that my elderly aunt's homeowners insurance was cancelled a couple of years ago due to a bad contractor. Basically, she hired someone to do home repairs and she filed a claim with her homeowners insurance for them. When someone from the insurance company came to her home unannounced, he saw construction bags in her backyard. The bags apparently had just been put there because the contractors were working in the house and they were cleared out by the contractor very shortly thereafter. The insurance company then cancelled my aunt's policy due to having too much "garbage" in her yard. The contractor ended up doing a crap job and didn't finish. The inside of the house looks unfinished and there are serious issues. My aunt had to sue the contractor and got a judgment but never saw a dime from him after court. Now with COVID, she can't have people running in and out of her house to do the needed fixes because she's elderly. My questions: What is the bare minimum required in terms of building standards to insure a property? Is there a way to insure a substandard property? It's not falling apart but there are some kind of temporary supports in her basement that were just left there. Also, the walls are unpainted, there aren't any lighting fixtures in the ceilings, etc. Will an inspector definitely want to see her house? My roommate is saying that no one went out to his sister's place when she started a policy. My aunt is a widow and my uncle worked really hard for that house. I would like to help her get insurance if I can because I feel like she's taking a risk otherwise. [link] [comments] |
Should I Get Dental Insurance (California)? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:59 PM PDT I recently switched jobs and the dental insurance they offer is $62/month. It covers 100% preventative, 80% basic and 50% major. I am wondering if there is a better plan out there for me. I usually get the biannual cleanings and annual x-ray. Every now and then, I have a couple cavities that need to be fixed. I still have my wisdom teeth and have been meaning to get them removed. What kind of dental plan should I be looking at, if any? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:57 PM PDT Had a fire in my apartment and we did not lose anything to fire but there is smoke damage throughout. Some items are being automatically damaged like the beds, pillows, kitchen counter top appliances. Allstate had 2 vendors come in to survey cleaning the salvageable items; 1 company for furniture, Knick-knacks, glassware, etc. Other company for clothing, linens, electronics. We are cashing out and cleaning the clothes ourselves indefinitely, unsure about the other items as of now. I wanted to just damage the couch because of the proximity to where the fire was and the heavy smoke but insurance said it can be attempted to be cleaned and if the cleaning company says there might still be smoke then we would get a new couch. I asked well what if we're just not satisfied but the cleaners say it's fine, insurance said they would not award us any money if there's no smoke. I paid for insurance in full for the year with a $15,000 personal property limit, shouldn't I have the final say in what I want to keep or get new? Located in New Jersey, USA [link] [comments] |
Do you need commercial car insurance to deliver groceries in WA state (washington) Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:05 PM PDT It's a general question. I can't find a for sure answer. If I start my own grocery delivery business, is it a mandated law somewhere? Or just a smart thing to do? [link] [comments] |
Insurance company said they may send in drones... do they give a heads up? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:51 AM PDT (East Central, MO) I just switched over to a new home owners insurance company a week ago. I was told by the representative that they only do exterior inspections. And it's either in person or via drones... regardless I was curious if they give you a heads up? Or if randomly there will be drones flying around my house.... [link] [comments] |
Confusion regarding Gap Insurance Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:19 PM PDT Massachusetts So my mechanic called me today to tell me that the work I need done is probably not worth the money. However, I still owe for at least another year on my car loan. So I'm reeling trying to understand what my options are. The car is drivable for now and he suggested that I pretty much drive it into the ground, however long that may last me... But the thing that I'm confused about is my GAP INSURANCE and how it can help me in this situation. When I originally signed up for my auto loan, I opted to get the Gap insurance rolled into my loan. That was in April 2017 (when I had much worse credit and very little money for a down payment). Now I'm here and I'm hoping this is something that could help me with this mess. If someone could maybe shed a little light on my options? I tried googling it but I'm still really not sure how it works or if it's even something I can use at this time. Or is this a situation where I can do something like a trade-in at the dealership where I bought my vehicle? I can get more info tomorrow when I call my mechanic back. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:01 PM PDT My apartment complex is using a different company this year (it's now monthly and so they want to add the cost to my rent). I already paid for my yearly renters insurance, so my apartment said I can use the old insurance provider as long as I add 2 interested parties to my insurance- one being the actual apartments, and the other I've never heard of before (called POPIC LLC) I called my insurance company and they said it's only possible to add 1 interested party. I then talked to my apartments and they said that's okay, but when I told POPIC they insisted I need to get them on as an interested party. Is it possible to add 2? Or is my apartment complex just trying to make me switch insurance? Edit: I live in Texas [link] [comments] |
Any claims experience with Clearcover? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 05:50 PM PDT I searched this sub and saw stuff from about a year ago but nothing really related to claims. My SO found this company and it would save us about $200/mo to get insured through them. But my fear is that if/when the time comes to make a claim they will just flat out deny the claim as they are a "smaller" company. I've also only dealt with the larger companies (I.E. Allstate, State Farm, Farmers). If anyone has any experience with claim submission through this company, TIA! [link] [comments] |
Auto Insurance Total Loss Claim Posted: 30 Jul 2020 05:36 PM PDT I leased a brand new SUV less a month ago, and over the weekend some reckless driver crashed onto it. I paid quite a lot for the down payment to lower the monthly payment. Yet my insurance adjuster (from Geico) called and said that the car is declared a total loss. They say my car's value is around $24,000 being a Nissan Rogue SV AWD with about 100 miles on it. I don't know why the sudden loss of value and they're saying that the estimate cost is a staggering $22,000 even though the left rear bumper and wheel was smashed and the front right bumper was caved in. The windows, lights, trunk, and the engine work properly. I'm in New York City, but I never knew how expensive such repair costs can be and how my car's value decreased so suddenly!! I don't want to get ripped off from my adjuster for the ACV and he's not willing to go much further into explaining the process, even though that's precisely his job. How can I deal with this situation, get a replacement vehicle or money that's equivalent to the one I paid for my vehicle? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:58 PM PDT Country: Nederland (Don't know if that makes any difference) So I am moving to Nederland and have never dealt with insurance related stuff. I understand the basic knowledge I need about deductibles. However, I am not sure if it applies to Dental/Eye Insurance since it's consider as "additional/optional insurance". I tried researching online and found no answers regarding this. My question is, does deductibles apply for dental/eye insurance (in Nederland)? I think it doesn't and hope it's not because if u have a high deductible (even low) then it's no use of having them since most only have a max reimbursement 150-300. Might as well pay for them myself y'know. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:38 PM PDT Hey guys recently I've been looking for auto insurance and I'm a new driver. I'm trying to find the cheapest auto insurance that I can pay for. But to no avail I cant fine any under 200/month. However I found an app that charges me per mile. And it would total me out much less then any other state minimum insurance. Should I be hesitant to jump on this? Can it be a scam? And I'm located in Arizona (US) and the insurance is from this app called "just auto insurance". [link] [comments] |
