If your question is "I have $10,000, what do I do?" or other "advice for my personal situation" questions. If you are going to ask how to invest you should include relevant information, such as the following:

    • How old are you?
    • Are you employed/making income? How much?
    • What are your objectives with this money? (buy a house? Retirement savings?)
    • What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)
    • What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)
    • Any other assets? House paid off? Cars? Expensive significant other?
    • What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?
    • Any big debts?
    • Any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer.

I don't see the point in buying gold

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 03:25 AM PDT

As the title states, it just doesn't make sense to me. If the dollar collapsed, am I supposed to buy milk with swiss francs? For the average investor of moderate financial means, buying a few ounces of gold is all that's possible. If you had millions, I can see buying a bunch as you could utilize it realistically. I just picture the economy in shambles and here I am with my one ounce bar of gold having no clue what to do with it except sell for more "useless paper" - Help me see the light on this

Fed official warns COVID-19 bankruptcies could trigger a financial crisis

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 12:14 PM PDT

    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/amp/business/economy/article-fed-official-warns-covid-19-bankruptcies-could-trigger-a-financial/

St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank president James Bullard has warned that a growing number of bankruptcies due to the coronavirus outbreak could lead to a financial crisis, the Financial Times reported.

"Without more granular risk management on the part of the health policy, we could get a wave of substantial bankruptcies and [that] could feed into a financial crisis," Mr. Bullard said in an interview with the newspaper on Wednesday.

He warned of "twists and turns" in the health crisis and said "it's probably prudent to keep our lending facilities in place for now, even though it's true that liquidity has improved dramatically in financial markets."

New U.S. COVID-19 cases rose by nearly 50,000 on Wednesday, according to a Reuters tally, marking the biggest one-day spike since the start of the pandemic. The surge in cases across the country, including the populous states of California, Florida and Texas, threaten the budding recovery.

Mr. Bullard said that it is possible that the country could "take a turn for the worse at some point in the future," but added that it was not his base case, according to the report.

The Fed moved aggressively in March to support the U.S. economy by cutting rates to near zero, buying up trillions of dollars in bonds and launching a slate of emergency lending tools to keep credit flowing to households and businesses.

The last of those programs was launched on Monday, which the Fed can use to buy newly minted corporate bonds.

"With all these programs, the idea is to make sure the markets don't freeze up entirely, because that's what gets you into a financial crisis, when traders won't trade the asset at any price," Mr. Bullard added.

    Valuing growth companies

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 04:25 AM PDT

It seems that the classic value method of valuing companies needs updating.

If you followed the Graham/Buffett discounted cash flow methodoly for a lot of high quality tech stocks for instance you would never buy another stock again.

Does anyone know of a reliable method to value tech stocks which can factor in massive growth in disruptive sectors?

(Or are we basically of the view that the only method is the classic value method and the stock market has just been in an ever increasing bubble that will one day crash back to value levels.)

Is there a case for buying Nissan?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 01:32 AM PDT

So their management is in shambles post Ghosn. They have a high debt-cash ratio. Some of their lineup is pretty tired. There is also drama with Renault et al.

However, the stock is cheap atm. They are almost certainly going to get more financing. They are releasing another true EV in 2023 and going almost full hybrid/EV with their lineup. They are also focusing on China/Japan and Europe it seems.

Too much of a gamble? Should the poor management decisions and the Ghosn/Renault drama dissuade me?

How do you deal with regret?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 12:08 AM PDT

Lately I've been whacking myself in the head for missing out on investing in March lows. I clearly remember watching the markets tank and rise and I told myself "there will be a second dip soon, this isn't the end etc".

This is my first time really looking into stocks. Prior to this I was using roboadvisors mostly. I wanted to learn more about individual businesses and cut the roboadvisor fees. My total portfolio has only increased by like 5% since covid started.

Now I'm pretty upset at myself at this opportunity cost that was missed...

For those who have been around long enough, how do you manage the feelings of regret, paralysis and making sure your future decisions aren't clouded by biases or emotions?

    Thanks

Are higher long term returns always better?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 05:42 AM PDT

I'm trying to figure out what value wealth managers or hedge funds bring to their clients if a basic index fund generally outperforms them in returns.

Are these clients not after higher returns? Even if wealth preservation was their concern, the long term index fund wouldn't accommodate?

I'm not an expert at this but I find it hard to believe rich people are willing to pay fees they don't have to in order to get less return than the 20 year olds who read a personal finance blog about index funds.

Can anyone knowledgeable in the private wealth management industry explain this?

Matt McCall Stock Recommendation, Anyone Know?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 01:23 AM PDT

Do you know the #1 stock recommended by the legendary investor Matt McCall?

Three main sectors Matt McCall focuses on:

    • 5G highway stocks/ chip making companies
    • Driverless Cars Stocks
    • Battery companies

5G- Internet of Things will be worth $56 trillion. Chip and sensor companies will profit the most from 5G as well as driverless vehicles. Battery and sustainable energy companies will be hot over the next few decades. Do you have any idea on the stocks regarding these three sectors?

    Resources

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:50 PM PDT

Heyo- looking for some options trading resources. I'm building a small library that I want to share. For anyone that wants to contribute, please comment with your ONE favorite investing resource. Doesn't need to be the best per say, if it's a little more niche that will help develop a better list.

I found a guy on YouTube that seems to be really sincere and is really interactive so I'm gonna send the list to him to add more mainstream sources.

    Thanks!

Why has the FTSE not bounced back similar to S&P500?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 09:34 AM PDT

The S&P 500 has made a fantastic recovery after the Covid 19. FTSE is recovering but lagging far behind.

    • UK & US central banks acted similar
    • UK handled the unemployment issue pretty well
    • Covid 19 is getting under control too

Is Brexit the issue? Is the S&P just overvalued?

    EV Mania - $WKHS, $NIO, $AYRO, $SHLL?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 11:31 AM PDT

With the entire EV sector heating up, I hear nothing but non-stop chatter on how these EV companies (i.e. $WKHS, $NIO, $AYRO, $SHLL) are literally ALL going to explode. While I agree that there is some real potential in this sector, i'd like to sift through the rabble and find which company has actual growth potential?

Not trying to be salty but I always thought Gary as part of lame fake gurus who read a book about leadership and proclaim himself as self guru. Turns out he did something great. Although I am still skeptical that Constellation probably got this direct to consumer wine business for cheap.

    Coca Cola Dividends

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:35 AM PDT

Good afternoon my friends. I have a question, to buy and receive dividends from Coca Cola, does it matter whether you buy NYSE (NSY | KO) or Amsterdam Stock Exchange (EAM | CCE) for example? Or is there any difference on the dividend issue afterwards? Thanks

Is now a good time to invest in $V (Visa)?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 02:47 PM PDT

Relatively new to investing and have been looking at a few stocks to invest in lately.

$V is one I'm looking at closely and wondering if now is as good a time as any to invest? It is still below its ATH which was in January this year. Obviously cashless payments are going to become the new norm and would point to significant growth potential.

Deutsche Bank wants to help Wirecard Bank – Aldi quits

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 09:22 AM PDT

The financial institution is examining possible financial assistance in coordination with the financial supervisory authority BaFin, the insolvency administrator of the parent company Wirecard AG and the Board of Management of Wirecard Bank, Deutsche Bank declared on Thursday. "In principle, we can imagine providing this support within the scope of continuing business activities, should this become necessary.

According to insiders, this puts Deutsche Bank in a good starting position for a possible takeover of Wirecard Bank.

    Source

If Deutsche Bank takes over Wirecard the stock is probably gonna surge a lot, you guys think its worth buying shares/calls, or do you think its too risky due to possible bankruptcy?

Also on a side note if you've never been to Aldi check it out they are pretty great and cheap

Another day, another SaaS company- BlackLine, Inc

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 01:15 PM PDT

With the recent trends of SaaS abundant and unprecedented growth. I was hoping for a healthy pull back from a long time in which the SaaS industry is still due. Now I come across this company BlackLine, Inc. Keeping in mind the accounting industry via SaaS still unpenetrated to a larger extent and BlackLine is doing an amazing job for the last 5+ and more. They have amazing quality and quantity(1600+) customers. The stock drove up more than 100% recently.

IS there further room for growth? thought pls ?

Note: Too much stock has been sold by insiders in recent times, which can point to the stock price has driven up compared to the real value + growth of the company ?

New rising cases = New All Time High for the S&P

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 01:19 AM PDT

    Look at it this way:

We got a shit economy, but we got the Fed's back with unlimited money printing. We ain't gonna shut down economy for the 2nd time, only pauses. Because there are all those idiots who refuse to wear masks in public areas. I don't know what's so hard about wearing a mask to protect yourself and the others, but that's AMURICA for you.

I said let all those idiots die; hopefully they are idiotic boomers so we can free up some of our social security burdens, and have some millennial deaths in the mix so some of our ballooning college debts be forgone.

Sometime you people should be more positive. You can look at anything and spin it both positively or negatively. If you look at things strictly from the utilitarian's standpoint, the world is overpopulated anyway so we need to kill off some people, especially in the future if automation gonna be replacing many jobs. We ain't gonna be feeding all those people.

Survival of the fittest. It is a part of the evolution process. The most befitting term applies to the capital market. When you win some $$, someone else loses.
