Let's see what the market looks like.

    1. Market/Office
    2. CY level - FY21 Level (A1>A2, S1->S2, S3->M1, etc)
    3. Line of business (Audit, tax, etc.)
    4. Rating (Showing potential, doing great, etc.) irrelevant, but for context feel free to add)
    5. Old & new salary
    6. Bonus
    7. Interesting notes on what CAs or others have told you related to future comp.
    8. Anything else?

Two week notice is submitted with B4!

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 08:53 AM PDT

Today is the day I've submitted my notice at my B4 and am moving on into industry!

All in all I had a great experience as a S1 and during my three years here total, and would certainly recommend it. There were some fun times and certainly not so fun times, and I'm feeling guilty for leaving in general on top of right when quarter starts. Additionally I'll probably have a doubt in the back of my mind about leaving before manager first a while.

But the WFH environment on my past couple teams has been brutal since everyone was staying online until 9-10pm even in between quarters, and on the other side of the coin I'm leaving for a 43% raise all in.

This sub has been a great resource during my time in public and for anyone considering the public route I would recommend it. It's definitely paid off for me although was at times sucky in the moment. The thing I always kept in mind is people use this sub to vent, so sure B4 isn't all peaches but there's a decent chance it will be better than sometimes talked about here (team dependent).

On a last note is I'm not sure where I'm gonna go from here since obviously industry generally isn't as structured as public. But that part is exciting for now so guess we'll see where life takes me. I'll see everyone on the other side while I ride out this notice!

    Talking to clients be like

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 08:46 PM PDT

UK Financial Reporting Council orders Big four to split audit and non audit by 2024. Firms must pay auditors in line with the profits of their audits, ringfence the finances of the audit division with a separate profit and loss account, and introduce an independent board to oversee audit practice.

    Big 4 Consulting

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:20 PM PDT

This Tik Tok drama has left me realizing I don't actually know much about Big 4 consulting, so I wanted to ask some questions. I always assumed our consulting arm was a lot of ex accountants and other business degrees, but that girl from Harvard had a government/psych degree. Is it really that common to hire from Ivy Leagues with just any degree? I think her job was like a government analyst or something- what the hell even is that?

I've also seen a lot of people say that these consultants are hired at starting six figure salaries, which made me wonder if I'm just getting dicked really hard over here in tax. People are also comparing Deloitte Consulting to Bain or McKinsey. Are we really that elite? I always thought big 4 consulting wasn't that different from audit/tax, but maybe I'm hella wrong.

Anyway, not trying to stir up any more Tik Tok drama, just genuinely wondering how big 4 consulting really worked.

    Smoking weed and accounting

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 11:03 AM PDT

I've seen so many people post in here that they are regular smokers. I smoked weed last night for the first time in like 10 years and holy hell do I feel retarded today. I'm scatterbrained, simple tasks are taking 2-3x as long as usual. I just barely made it through a zoom meeting. Thank God I finished my month end last week and have a light workload.

My hats off to you frequent smokers here, I don't think I'll ever ever again smoke when I have work the next day.

PTO did not help cure my burnout

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:11 PM PDT

I burned out pretty bad about a month ago and took a week off to recharge in hopes of coming back more productive and out of my rut. Well it's been about 3 weeks now since I came back from my time off and lo and behold, I'm feeling the same exact way I did as before I took the time off. I would take this as a sign to leave public but damn the job market is dry right now. Is it worth it to stick around and continue to pump out shitty work product and extend my misery?

    Cover letter critique

    Cover letter critique

Hey r/Accounting, I'm planning on applying to some mid tier accounting firms and need help revising my cover letter/resume. Initially, I was planning on Big4, but I don't think I can get in because of my lack of extracurricular's & accounting work experience. Its been a bit hard for me to write my cover letter and resume.

I appreciate any feedback, I know its a bit rough (ignore the highlighting). Thanks in advance!

Better exit opportunities in Audit or Risk Advisory?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:28 PM PDT

I'm in talks with multiple recruiters and early this fall a couple want to talk about full time offers for after I get my MAcc next May. I already accepted a tax offer from a top 15 firm but I want to go big 4 and exit to a controller, CFO, president type position. A big 4 firm is currently recruiting me for Risk Advisory but if Audit will help me get to where I want to be I can do it for the 4-5 years I have to. I have no preference

    Government accounting jobs drug use

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 06:45 PM PDT

Considering trying to get a job as a special agent for us government. What are the policies on drug use. how long do you have to be clean for. I'm still in college but did not think I'd be considering working for the government so I never really had to worry about this issue until know. I was wondering what is the general government special agent rule for drugs? Are each departments different? Does each department use polygraph interviews?

Other side: Public practice then moved into industry and did not like it, what happened?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 08:50 PM PDT

I would like to hear about the other side. It's always just "public bad, go to industry then life good."
