Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:31 PM PDT TLDR: does it matter whether my living situation is against the terms of the lease (I'm not on it)? will renters and umbrella policies still cover me for liability? This is in California Long story short, I accidentally ended up in a sublet that's against the terms of the lease. There was no deliberate deception on anyone's part and I've lived in this place for years with no problem. The problem is we don't see a great way to fix the situation and we're sort of stuck. I recognize that puts me at risk for eviction, but that's not what I'm asking about here. In short, I've been living here for years but am not on the lease -- only one roommate is still on the original lease. I would like to protect myself against liability in the case where I or my guest damage or destroy the house, or maybe one of my roommates or their guests does but I'm somehow found partially responsible. Basically I want to be covered in the event of a cooking fire or injury or who knows what unlikely event. I'd like to supplement this coverage with a personal umbrella policy to go beyond what typical renters insurance covers. So, the question is, in light of all this, will a renter's insurance policy still protect me? thanks [link] [comments] |

Renters insurance with a flood in basement Posted: 12 Jun 2020 02:35 PM PDT I have renters insurance with Nationwide. I had some things that got damaged due to a few inches of water from what I think is from a bad rainstorm we had a couple days ago. I was told it would be covered from a storm before and now I'm being told if the water entered the basement through foundation or sump pump than it wouldn't be covered. Only if it was from a bad pipe or leak internally. I guess I just would like some advice about what I can do, there was some type of leak from a hose but it didn't seem enough to leak the basement [link] [comments] |
Insurance company paid doctor after I already paid out of pocket Posted: 12 Jun 2020 09:31 PM PDT After a car accident I had regular visits to doctors for which I paid the bills out of pocket after medical insurance deductions. As instructed by the car insurance company I submitted copies of the bills for the final settlement. They issued payment to each of the doctors but I have already paid the balances. In one particular instance the doctors office billing department issued a tiny fraction of the refunded balance I should have received. I put together an explanation and proof of what the insurance company paid them and copies of receipts of bills I paid and have been going back and forth with the doctor's office billing department. We've exchanged several emails and phone calls and they have responded with "well let me look at this and get back to you" even though I have documented the payments very clearly. It seems to me that they would happily accept the overpayment from the insurance company and they're constantly stalling in hopes that I will go away. If they continue to drag out the issue how would you suggest I proceed? I'm sure I could get an attorney but obviously I would like to avoid that process as I would imagine it could be lengthy and then there would have to be a lawsuit to recoup the attorney fees. Posted: 12 Jun 2020 08:41 PM PDT I just moved to Iowa from New York. I had a New York drivers license for a couple years which has some tickets and suspension on it. I just received my Iowa drivers license a few days ago. When I apply for car insurance, and the insurance company runs a driving record, will they factor in my New York driving license as well, or ONLY Iowa? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Jun 2020 07:39 PM PDT Let's suppose a case where a food product warehouse has been burned in 31th of May. All the stocks has been burned down to . The warehouse has been operating for three years as a distributor. Only the stock is covered by the insurer with Total sum Insured is $ 1.000.000. The insured claim that the amount of stock that was lost in the incident was exactly $ 1.000.000. How would the insured proof that it is actually that amount that was lost? What kind of proof is needed since the stock level is never constant at a warehouse and there is no CCTV installed in the warehouse? [link] [comments] |
Hit object that fell off another car Posted: 12 Jun 2020 06:40 AM PDT The other day driving on a two lane highway a spoiler fell off the roof a dodge caravan and ended up hitting my front bumper. Scuffed it up pretty good on the passenger side. I got the drivers plate but he wouldn't stop so I contacted the police after and got a report from them. I did not have enough personal info to file a claim with his insurance company(only plate#) so I contacted my insurance and opened a claim. They referred me to an auto-body shop for an estimate and I plan on going today for that. In the meantime the other guys insurance company is investigating for liability. In the moment I was pretty upset since i drive a nice car and now I have to look at all these scratches on my bumper. Now I wonder if I made the wrong move and worried my rates may go up if I pursue this since the other guy can just play dumb. I will likely end up not pursuing this since the estimate will probably be around $1000-1500 for scratch repair and I don't know how they would even prove he's liable unless he admitted to it. Will my rates likely go up if I cancel the claim? Any thoughts? Metlife insurance btw and happened in the state of CT [link] [comments] |
Need help with Geico insurance. Posted: 12 Jun 2020 06:50 PM PDT I'm new here, but I'm looking for some help with my insurance company. So I had a comprehensive claim for vandalism about 2 months ago to get my sunroof fixed. Geico claims that I could fix it wherever I would like as long as I pay the deductible. The deductible is $1500. (I know it's super high). So I send it to VW to have it fixed up. I had also agreed to pay for one other misc repair that Geico wouldn't have to cover. Last week Geico claimed that they couldn't cover the leftover $1k for repairs. However, no one reached out to me about it. In fact the person who took care of the claim just stated that, "customer understands the difference". Without even talking to me about it. Which is now a problem because now I owe roughly 2.9k. (Which I obviously don't have.) So now I have a problem because I don't have this money to even pay for all of this. The deductible is fine. But when he told me that he had already claimed that I understood the extra charges I was pissed. 🤬 So now I've been stuck without a car for over 4 months now. Trying to figure out if I even want it at this rate and default on the payments and just leave Geico to deal with the total. I haven't called my insurance agent yet because I'm pretty sure he's not on the clock at the moment. So I'm wondering what is the best way to go about this? I really don't have any extra money to do payments or anything either... Would the best thing to do is talk it out? -ignore: Location - Las Vegas NV, USA. [link] [comments] |
[Northern Ontario, Canada] Are trees not covered if they are not worded on my policy? Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:57 PM PDT I had strong wind blow some branches off a tree on my property that did some damage to a shed. I had a contractor come by, fix it, and gave me an invoice that's below my deductible. The tree is still standing and not touching any part of my property with a lot of tree debris in my yard. I called my insurance and they told me that since my base policy doesn't have tree coverage (but they told me the more expensive policies have tree coverage added as additional features), my tree debris and tree removal/trimming is not covered and that since the damage to the shed was minimal and below the deductible, I was encouraged to withdraw the claim. I was looking through my policy but I wasn't able to find any wording of trees nor was I able to find trees being part of exclusions. Am I able to fight against this? Are trees in my yard not considered to be part of my property? [link] [comments] |
Home plus flood endorsement Opinions Posted: 12 Jun 2020 09:49 AM PDT Located in Florida in an AE flood zone. Our policy is set to non renew due to capacity exposure management. Looking for recommendations on home plus private flood insurance. Are endorsements on a home policy versus a separate flood policy generally cheaper? I've gotten few quotes. One insurance agent is trying to tell me that endorsements are more expensive although every quote I've gotten is with an endorsement and has been cheaper than two separate policies. Not sure if I can or should use my car insurance Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:41 PM PDT So I recently bought a car and whoever had it before me painted it another color than the original. Someone stole my gas cover a day or two ago. I was able to find a replacement cover online (haven't bought yet) but I can't find a color to match my car in person. I have progressive and have everything but custom parts. Will my insurance cover the cost of the cover and to have it painted at a body shop to match the car? And if so will I have to pay two separate deductibles because I just had to make a claim a couple of days ago on my other car because a tree fell and cracked the windshield. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:23 PM PDT can one car insurance company pull up my car claims from another car insurance company? for example, if i start with geico today, can i request progressive to have my previous car claim information be send to geico so they can pull up all my car history without me having to do it myself? Or Does all car insurance company share a data base that allows them to pull up information from any customer? i live in ohio [link] [comments] |
Should I file a complaint against BCBS? Posted: 12 Jun 2020 02:41 PM PDT I have been on Humira for the last 4 years. For 3 of the last 4 years I've had a different insurance company (Community Health Choice-Texas). Now I have BCBS Texas HMO plan. I have been trying for 6 months to get back on my Humira. BCBS doesn't want to cover it. Prior to being with BCBS I was on 4 pens a month (1x per week). I have severe psoriatic arthritis. Since not being on the medication my physical health has deteriorated. My legs are killing me, my arms, back, hands, and neck hurt tremendously. I don't take narcotics out of fear of addiction. This is happening because I'm not on Humira. It's taking a toll on my mental well-being. I'm becoming depressed. I've lost 200lbs but have gained back 40 because I can't run anymore due to the pain. I just wanted to give that backstory first. As I said, I've been trying to get my medication since I switched to BCBS. First, they said they needed prior authorization. My doctor sent it. Then proof I needed to be on it 4x a month. My doctor sent it. The denied it. She appealed. They denied it again. They said they'd give me 2 pens a month. My doctor told me I'd have to do this so she could resubmit paperwork saying I needed it 4x a month. She was supposed to have resent the prescription. Alliance/Walgreens (the mail specialty pharmacy) says they didn't get it. I'm having to talk to BCBS, BCBS pharmacy side claims (Prime), and Alliance/Walgreens mail order pharmacy, as well as my doctor and no one, is on the same page. They keep losing the paperwork or they'll just say it needs to be resubmitted because they never got anything. No one wants to help me. I've talked to scores of reps from the BCBS umbrella. Who do I call? Do I file a complaint? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2020 02:29 PM PDT Hey, I'm 23 and was just in my first accident (Florida, USAA). I was in a drive thru at starbucks and spilled hot coffee on my legs, instantly jumped up and took my foot off the pedal and my car bumped into the one in front of me. Left a few scratches and 1 tiny paint chip on theirs. No dents or anything like that. Lady was screaming at the cops I rammed her and stuff but I mean the marks to her car were almost nothing and eventually everything calmed down and we got sent on our way. Will my rate sky rocket now? How long will it take usually for me to hear back about this from my insurance and should I call them? I just got laid off so this is kind of the worst thing possible that could have had happened. Kind of want to die. Sorry if this dumb. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2020 06:54 AM PDT I just recently financed a 2015 Mitsubishi lancer. When viewing my options for insurance, i knew it'd be somewhat high considering i'm a 22 y/o male, and also ever since i got my license at 18, my father never put me down under his insurance as a driver. I informed the agent at the insurance company i was going through of this, saying that technically i'm considered a "new driver." even if i've been driving for x amount of years. He took that info and got me in with progressive for $490 a month. Full coverage on a 5 year old car, as a new driver. But, after checking the progressive app, it says "prior insurance file needed to maintain the insurance price" or something along those lines. Obviously, i don't have prior proof cause i was never insured and my insurance now skyrocketed, to where this month i have to pay over 800 and for the following months will be 650+. If this can be situated, i genuinely don't know where to go to fix it. so if anyone has the answer to that, i'd greatly appreciate it. Other than that, would anyone know any other insurance company that won't charge me out the ass for this? Edit: Located in long island, new york [link] [comments] |
Special license plate left on totaled car (CA) Posted: 12 Jun 2020 08:28 AM PDT Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate sub for my predicament. My car was totaled a while back. I had the legacy plates in California. I didn't mention it to my insurance but I was looking into it and I should have removed the plates before my car was hauled away. I'm trying to get the plates transferred over to my new car. If this isn't the correct subreddit could so done poi t my towards the right direction. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2020 01:55 PM PDT Hi everyone. This is my first year on my own health insurance and I need some help understanding the process and to know if what's happening here is normal. I went in on June 1 to have a bilateral salpingectomy done (removal of both Fallopian tubes). My doctor's office said they took care of the pre-authorization and told me that insurance pays 95% after my deductible and that the hospital will collect what was left on my deductible the day of the surgery. The hospital did collect this on June 1. The problem I seem to be running into is that after the hospital collected my deductible, the charges for my pre-op appointment from my doctor went through. I had the pre-op appointment on May 22, but it wasn't processed until June 8, so I was charged additional money on June 8 even though my deductible was fully paid on June 1. This is also happening again with the doctor's fees for preforming the surgery. It still did not show to my insurance company where the hospital had collected the deductible, so the doctor's office charged me $900 of their own fees since that's how much I had left on the deductible + co-insurance. I have not paid this charge yet; this is just what it shows that I owe the provider on my EOB. I guess I'm just confused on why I'm still being charged so much even though my deductible has been paid and the rest of the surgery was to be covered at 95%. The claims from the hospital have not been processed by my insurance yet, but my insurance has processed the ones from my doctor's office. I have been calling the insurance company, doctor's office, and hospital billing department, but no one seems to have any answers. I do not want to have bills end up in collections because of my ignorance, but I also don't want to pay more than I actually owe (the hospital claim is for ~$31,000 before insurance,'so I definitely do not want to be owing that much). Do I need to just wait until everything has been processed and start working out what I owe and what credits I have then or should I be more proactive about this now? Insurance is GEHA, which uses the United PPO network in my state. Thanks for the help in advance! [link] [comments] |
Can I get car insurance and exclude my mom? Posted: 12 Jun 2020 12:59 PM PDT While letting her drive my car from time to time? We live together, and I just know she'd like to drive it. Let's say she gets in an accident - am I covered? I've heard car insurance follows the car, not the driver. Cool. But I've also heard that some insurance companies won't cover the costs if you explicitly exclude the driver to receive a lower rate. And because she lives with me, I guess they can make that case. Options? I currently don't have car insurance since I just got the car, but i'm trying to get the best deal out of an insurance company. [link] [comments] |
Do I need to disclose a past accident if it doesn't appear on my driving record? Posted: 12 Jun 2020 12:11 PM PDT Hi, I'm a TN resident shopping for insurance for a new car. About a year ago, I was involved in a very minor collision while driving my GF's car. I pulled too far into a road, backed up a little and tapped the car behind me. There was a sliver of paint scraped off of the other car's bumper, about an 1/8th of an inch thick and 6 inches long or so. The other drive was upset, and insisted on getting a police quote and filing a claim. I was subsequently added to my gf's insurance and the insurance agency took care of it, and the police weren't able to give a report as it occurred on a private driveway. Now, this incident doesn't appear on my driving record with the state. Do I need to disclose this as an accident to prospective insurance agencies? Also, if anyone has recommendations for good insurance companies, I'm all ears. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Jun 2020 06:56 AM PDT I'm in NJ and have an old car that is basically driven exclusively by my out of state friend when she comes to visit. I'd like to make sure she is on the insurance for that car since de-facto it is her car and the way it's decorated now etc. it would be difficult for me to say I just let her borrow it for 5 min. I know I could sell it to her but then I'd have a car with out of state license plates in my driveway year round which brings its own problems. [link] [comments] |

Thanks. Edit: thanks for the info everyone. State is NM if that makes it more clear to answer. [link] [comments] |
