PwC should adopt the corgi as a mascot

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 01:04 PM PDT

While I'm waiting for the partner on my client to review my workpapers, I've come to the realization that the corgi would be the perfect mascot for PwC for a few reasons:

    1. The corgi can come in orange, red, yellow, etc. - the colors of PwC
    2. PwC originated in the UK, just like the corgi
    3. One of the corgi breed's full name is Pembroke Welsh Corgi - PWC

I think its just a matter of time till PwC makes the corgi its mascot

Hired days before graduation and just finished my second day...

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 07:27 PM PDT

... and I think I am the luckiest guy in the world. I didn't expect much after graduation, but I can't help but feel I hit the jackpot.

This is a small firm. My first day on the job was a company party day. Was a great chance to mingle and meet everyone before starting. Really put me at ease. Everyone screaming at me in such a joyful way, "Welcome to the family!!!"

The second day. My bosses, the firms partners, walk out into my office, (yes! I got my very own office!) and they tell me we are going out to lunch together. The next 2.5 hours we spent driving around and eating at a very high end restaurant. They are super outgoing, fun, and caring individuals.

We came back, got back to work. My trainer is fabulous as well. Super caring, nice, sets me up to make mistakes on purpose, tells me how grave the mistake is, laughs, and pats me on the back saying, "I hope this moment reminds you not to repeat that mistake." It really does help. Having someone train you that really cares gives such a wealth of knowledge. Having partners tell me I haven't made enough mistakes yet is super reassuring.

For those wondering, I am doing Payroll, Bookkeeping, and individual tax returns.

Have any of you had to deal with a friend incessantly asking you to do their taxes despite your repeated rejections?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 09:55 PM PDT

I've got a long time close friend that will not leave me alone about doing his taxes. Him and his wife are both realtors and want to get an LLC and set up as an S-Corp. I've given him some tips on what to expect and advised that he should just get a local CPA or EA to handle it for him (we live several states away).

I know he's just wanting me to do it to avoid paying someone to handle it as he's stated "I'll pay you a couple hundred bucks." I know it'd be a relatively easy set of returns to file, but quite frankly I just don't want to get involved in all that. I've got enough on my plate with the extended deadline right now to want to deal with even more outside of work. I normally don't mind doing the off-hand simple 1040 for a friend, but this is the last thing I want to deal with when I get off of work.

Not really looking for advice as there's not much I can do other than continuing to decline, just getting some annoyed frustration off my chest. Anyone else got a thorn in their side like this?

    PwC Revised Offer

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 12:45 PM PDT

Got my revised offer letter earlier. I'm in tax, and it's a 3K decrease. Could be worse I'm sure, but I live in a high COL area so I'm not thrilled. Anyone else heard from them?

    Tough Interview Questions

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 05:20 PM PDT

    Good evening everyone,

I am currently working now, as a staff accountant but just had a recent phone interview for a cost accounting position that would be a good next step in my career. I answered most of the questions right, but struggled answering two of the questions which resulted in me speaking too quickly.

    The questions were:

What step by step process would you take to analyze financial data given to you by your boss?

What makes a great financial analyst verse average analyst?

I was curious if you had any input on how to answer those questions and how to handle tough interview questions in the future? Thanks!

    Audit to financial due diligence

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 07:54 PM PDT

Has anyone here switched from big4 audit to big4 financial due diligence and mind sharing a bit about it?

I'm currently in my second year looking to try and transfer after one more busy season as a senior but I wasn't sure what recruiters typically look for from auditors trying to break into FDD.

I've heard that it's tough as the firms need bodies in audit, but I've also heard it's doable. I'm not even sure what I should focus on learning the next few months whether it's various accounting standards, booking patterns, or even just project/team management. Any advice/personal anecdotes would be appreciated!

Oh, also If you could also elaborate on what you like about FDD compared to audit that would be great!

    Frustrated newbie

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 07:52 PM PDT

I've been working as an accounting clerk for the past 2 years. (I don't know if I can still call myself a newbie) When I started the position, I had no experience. Even after 2 years I make rookie mistakes daily, I'm being corrected on the same things. (Misclassifying transactions, missing payment due dates...) And recently, I feel that it's gotten worse. I know I'm not going to last much longer, but I know it it's not for a lack of trying. I'M JUST NOT CATCHING EVERYTHING😭 My frustration and shame is just boiling over. I want to trying an internship to see if it will help me do better (I am also an accounting major) I don't want to quit accounting, I want to keep improving, but I'm at my whits end. My performance review is coming up and I'm absolutely dreading it. I feel like such a fuck up. What should I do?

Pretty expected but a couple unexpected items:

-No more headcount actions/layoffs anticipated (did say currently but that is probably cya language)

    -Promotion raises, no merit raises

-New Hires are getting offered salary

-Rising 2nd years will get a raise so they make more than new hires

-AIP (Bonuses) smaller pool but no specific percentages

-Announcement of WFH reimbursements of 100% office expenses but no dollar amounts announced

    Time to leave Big 4?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 09:42 AM PDT

I'm currently a big 4 Manager in FDD. I have 6 years experience and just passed my one year as a manager. I currently make $112k and was expecting a good raise this year since I'm slightly underpaid but due to COVID my firm isn't giving raises or bonus. I feel completely shafted as I've busted my ass working shit hours this past year. Finance Manager jobs in my city are paying $135-150k base and I'm really thinking about looking. Sure I might not get anything and with all the layoffs I'm sure it's more competitive to get these jobs but I feel like it's worth a try. I really don't hate working at the big 4 but I'm now going to be underpaid this year and probably next year as well (Fed isn't expecting economy to return until 2022 and even then who knows). I wanted to stay at big 4 until Director but 1st year directors only make $160k at my firm anyway and I'm at least 3-4 years away from that promotion.

Mean & Toxic Senior - Advice Wanted

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 06:39 PM PDT

I'll keep this brief, looking for advice, thanks in advance

I am a first year audit staff at a public firm with under 30 people. My audit senior is unbelievably condescending, rude, and oh man, she is so mean to me. I value my job so I don't say anything and let her walk over me. I do very good work, and I work very hard (told to me by my managers). I work so well with other seniors at the firm, but this particular senior is just straight up rude and makes me hate going into work. I have never wronged her. It is frequently just me and her alone on-site completing the audit. I just want to learn from her experience, but it really seems like she barely knows more than me - every answer of hers is "because that's what we did last year".

Should I try and talk to her directly? Would it be inappropriate for me to ask the manager to intervene? Wwyd? I can't take it anymore, I deserve to be treated with respect
