Posted: 27 Jun 2020 04:07 PM PDT ...and it's been great. Never did it while studying for the CPA or even before in college but I'm up in NH with my friends and it's been amazing. Don't even have to worry about it affecting my comp adjustment since they already cut all our pay. It's amazing how much this career consumes our lives. Even now, I'm posting this while sipping a claw and waiting for a burg. Have a relaxing weekend everyone. [link] [comments]

Why do I appear in my employer's LinkedIn search every week? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 08:22 PM PDT I've turned off the "open for opportunities" feature. Employer has a hiring freeze. Why do I appear in their search every single week? It's been like that for months but it kinda makes me nervous. [link] [comments]

How can I build my accounting skills outside of school? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 09:47 PM PDT I am an accounting student transferring from a community college to a 4 year school this fall. The only accounting courses I have taken are Accounting Principles I and II. I got an A in both courses but they were fairly easy. I feel like I should be building my accounting skills in my free time to make my life easier down the road. What resources are out there? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Pay at Big 4 in Los Angeles vs. Irvine Posted: 27 Jun 2020 08:58 PM PDT Does anyone have any data on a comparison of salaries between these two offices? Which would offer higher pay on average? Specifically for EY, if possible. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 02:55 PM PDT I am an A1 going to be an A2 at Big 4 in audit (1 full year experience) and have my CPA. For many personal health reasons, I have decided I want to take an offer at a smaller regional firm (around 75-100 people) as an experienced staff and both firms are in a HCOL area. I recently received the offer from this firm for around 9-10% higher than my current A1 salary. I know that I should negotiate this salary prior to accepting, but given my current level and having the CPA, how much of an increase would be appropriate to counter with and what would be too much to ask for? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 04:31 PM PDT This might have been discussed before, but I am just curious as to what the ramifications and negative consequences, if any, that EY will face. Both from an external and internal point of view. Does the PCAOB/Govenment fine the hell out of them? I'm assuming the PIC of the account is also stripped of their license and fired? Are these assumptions anywhere close or are they way off? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:41 PM PDT It's only one hour - so I can't go to deep into anything. I'm keen to know what you would want answered/explored. It would be a panel of people answering question with various levels of experience, from various size firms. Here's what I have so far: Questions to panellists: Share your journey to joining or starting a practice? What does a typical day look like for you? What do you love about being in Practice? What tips do you have for people wanting to start their own Practice? What tips do you have for people wanting to join a practice? Learning outcomes An understanding of what's happening in the SME Practice environment An appreciation of career opportunities in the Practice environment What's happening in the Practice world outside the Big 4. Resources you can leverage to start your own practice Thank you for any input you may have. [link] [comments]

FLDP instead of B4 Audit? Accounting Student needing advice Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:21 PM PDT Hello all, I am a student in the TX DFW area going to a non-target school. I am doing a Professional Program in Accounting (PPA) to get my 150 hours eligibility for the CPA. I have a Big 4 Internship lined up for Dallas, but recently, I have been having some doubts about whether or not pursuing Big 4 audit is something I want to do. I have heard great things about Finance Leadership Development Programs - certain companies (some of the F500) will hire finance/accounting students straight out of college for a 2-3 year rotation across different finance/accounting departments, and even help pay for the CPA like most public accounting firms do. Salary is a little more initially as opposed to doing Big 4, and the hours are way, way more reasonable than Big 4 audit. I'm not even sure if I want to do accounting anyway. I just jumped into it because it seemed like the most solid major my uni had to offer. My family is based out of West Plano, so doing a FLDP in the North Dallas/Plano/Frisco area would be ideal. My parents would be willing to let me commute from their house, and it would be way better than having to pay for rent for an apartment in Dallas for however long I'd be with Big 4. My main concern is obviously how it would affect my career path, and I'd love to hear thoughts about the differences between B4 audit/FLDPs would be with that. My life goal is to have a family, so if I would already be living in Plano in a nice North Texas suburb practically rent free, saving up money, I would be at an awesome advantage. I greatly value my free time and I would love to travel one day - I work to live, not the other way around. This might sound silly, but making six figures at some accounting job while having as much possible time with my future wife, children, and myself sounds so ideal to me. Hypothetically, I would take a CFO/Director job if it was offered to me, and I would enjoy the extra pay, but ultimately I just want a nice comfy suburban lifestyle. Any thoughts about FLDPs/Big 4, my potential future career path and advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd also appreciate any suggestions for companies potentially doing FLDPs in the North Dallas area as well. Also, this subreddit scares me with everyone talking about how horrible public accounting/big 4 is. I saw the thread with the Deloitte guy before he deleted it, about how he basically has been networking hard since he was a freshman and Deloitte basically dropped him. Hope y'all understand my position. [link] [comments]
