Are IT Auditors and our complaints allowed here?

I love the vibe here. General confusion about how to get work done, massive stress, impending doom and tons of hours. I don't want to step on any toes cause this is accounting but I haven't found anywhere else to share my pain as the other subreddits related are fairly dead.

Plus we're just on opposite sides of the same shit pie.

I'm learning excel on my own time to help compensate. I want to look for accoutning related internships like maybe at local firms but idk if I'm legible or qualified? My GPA is close to a 3.5.

What are your go-to jokes that really aren’t funny, but have a high success rate with your co-workers?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:14 AM PDT

My go-to right now is something like: "Wow I'm really missing the office right now... the coffee at home always seems to run out!!"

I'm confident that my unfunny jokes are the reason why upper management loves me and gives me better-than-expected reviews.

*Rant* Feel Like an Failure Compared to People around my age..

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:18 PM PDT

Went to a university of a major city in US. Successfully got in a good student organization but ended up being the only officer that did not land a PA internship.. was international student so big 4 were really the only choices.. Luckily an industry company gave me an AR role so I did not end up graduating without a job. Now a few years have gone by, I did manage to got out from AP and became a staff accountant. Salary was okay but it seems no where close to my peers' starting salaries. Now here I am, stuck as a staff accountant and is worrying about if I would get furlough, while most of my peers back in college are already senior in the either tax or audit.. Just feel so depressed now.. T_T

Well I am more specifically looking for stuff like if they in anyway promote interest of speculators or allow firm's actual profitability to go hidden.

    Applying to government positions process

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 04:29 PM PDT

I'm thinking about applying for a town accounting position. There is mention of a written exam and a basic computer skills exam. What are these exams and how long does this process take? I would like this position but am applying to other positions as well and am worried that I may need to decide on offers from private industry before I finish the process for this position without knowing if I will get an offer.

I dont want to do anything, I just want to come up with a funny name, pay a registration fee and appoint myself as CEO.

Do I actually have to do business, or can I just make up the nature of my business?

Would any of what I'm thinking about be considered fraud? Lol

    Sage 50 Certs

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 08:53 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

At the moment I'm living abroad but keen on returning to the UK in order to apply for a 2021 graduate accountant application. I obviously have a lot of time before then so that means I have time to work on myself in preparation for an accounting role.

    I'll be starting:

    1. ACCA cert
    2. Sage 50 course

Has anyone had any experience with this? Would it be worthwhile or am I wasting my hard earned money/time?

    Thanks!

Put on a PIP... any advice?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 12:34 PM PDT

So I got the news today that I've been put on a PIP. If you look at my post history, you can see that I made some slips on an engagement (wrong selections, over budget, etc...) and having a not so helpful senior. Despite having solid reviews before, I've been put on a performance improvement plan. Does anyone have experience with coming off of this plan? I was told that there was no consideration of firing me, but that I would need to show improvement in certain areas throughout the course of the plan in order to keep my job. I know a lot of people say this is the firm's way of firing you with cause, but I really trust my manager that's overseeing this and it'd be hard to imagine him bullshitting me on giving me an opportunity to improve. Also, he's told me about many people he's worked with who have worked their way off the plan.

I'll be honest, I really don't like audit at all. Haven't since day one and this definitely contributed to me burning out and under performing. However, my original plan was to stay in audit at Big 4 until at least senior and then search for more interesting opportunities, but possibly stay until manager.

    Open to hear any advice!

When you know your work paper is garbage and your senior knows it’s garbage, but the manager doesn’t have any review notes.
