Many other providers have given discount checks to their customers. GEICO claimed they would give you a discount on renewal. I didn't mind because they were a good deal for me at the time.

Now I get to my renewal and, they did apply the 15% reduction but they raised my rate by 10% due to "surge in claims". Seems shitty to get only 5% discount when other companies were mailing up to 25% discount checks out.

Anyone have a better experience with another company? Should I look to switching?

    Need new Auto

    Posted: 07 May 2020 01:01 AM PDT

So I have been using Freeway Insurance for a bit now, they get me the cheapest rate because I rarely drive anymore, but the system and customer service sucks. I tried 3 times in the past 4 months to change my debit card for autopay but apparently you can't do it online(even though you can pay manually online for a fee), so I had to send a form, which I did twice, and it still didn't work because my policy didn't renew on the 29th. The only other way is to have the original office that signed you up do it, but I recently moved and their an hour away, with the next closest being 20-30 mins, and not even sure if they could do it. It's impossible to call because they don't answer their phones so if I miss their call I'm screwed. I typically pay $75-80 a month for bare minimum coverage(Florida). I tried to do some online quotes for all the usual suspects but couldn't find anything else for less than $100. I get Metlife at a discount through my Employee benefits(Hilton), but not sure if that would even be as low, they don't do online quotes. I'd rather try and find another place as cheap but with at least better online tools. I drive a bought & paid 2010 Kia Optima. Any ideas?

    Writing a Screenplay - Need Insurance-related Idea

    Posted: 07 May 2020 12:39 AM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I'm writing a psychological thriller screenplay and I have a scene where a neighbor sabotages an artist studio in order to "save the day".

Ideally, he would start a little FIRE, then quickly put it out.

So I asked Electricians sub-reddit but they could only think of something *IF* someone was there to turn on a switch.

QUESTION: Is there any scenario where a neighbor could (with plausibility) cause a small "accident" to a studio within an HOUR or so— then pretend to solve the problem?

    Thanks for your ideas!

How to disable drive history with other users on Drive Safe & Save?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:27 PM PDT

I'm a young adult on my parent's car insurance. We are using State Farm's Drive Safe & Save app to receive discounts. The app shares all information between drivers on their trip score. Is there any way to use separate logins or separate the data while still being on the same insurance? Thank you!

    Motorcycle accident effecting car insurance?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 05:58 PM PDT

Hey guys so I got into a motorcycle accident and my bike is pretty much totaled. It's not worth a whole lot (probably around $2,000 market value) and I'm trying to figure out if I should make a claim or not. I was at fault, I lost it in a corner and it smacked into a light pole. There were no injuries thank goodness and I was able to walk away (wear gear kids)!

I have collision under my policy but I'm kind of concerned about making a claim and having it effect my car insurance. Is this a thing? I own 2 cars and I don't want to see my monthly payments go up. My car insurance and bike insurance are with 2 separate companies. Not being able to get my hands on money for the bike wouldn't kill me financially but it would also be nice to put towards a new one. I am aware that filing a claim for the bike would increase my motorcycle insurance but I don't know how that would translate to my car insurance if at all.

    Thanks for reading!

I don't know if it matters but I'm in Pennsylvania, and am a male in my late 20s.

State Farm Drive Safe & Save with Postmates?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:22 PM PDT

I deliver for postmates and the person who holds the insurance on my car (a family member) is going to put one of State Farm's Drive Safe and Save devices in my car. I deliver for postmates though, which requires that I use my phone for both GPS and accepting orders. I keep my phone screen on to help know where postmates hotspots are. Will this affect the discount that we may receive on the insurance? I live in Arizona in the US. Thanks!

    Temporarily Cancel Car Insurance

    Posted: 06 May 2020 07:40 PM PDT

We have 2 cars in our house, and as many people around the world, both of us are working from home and rarely use our cars. I also just found out that I won't be going back into the office until 2021. I figure if I cancel the insurance on my car and we share the other one, it will save me approx $500.

Have some questions: -If I don't plan on driving my car, would it make sense to cancel my insurance then reinstate when I go back to the office? -Is there a risk of having a car (that's sitting in a garage) with no insurance? -Is there any issue restarting the insurance next year...ie: gap in coverage? Or will I be fine since my other car is insured under my name?

I have State Auto for my cars, house, and umbrella - will be getting a small COVID discount, and have their tracker which should also discount my lack of mileage.

    Thank you!

I added a car to my 6 month insurance policy which began in March. Is my rate for 6 months or for the remaining time on the policy?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 06:57 PM PDT

Hey guys. Today, I added a car to my 6 months GEICO policy (which began in March) and they offered me a 410 $ rate. My question is, is this rate for the remaining months on my policy or is this the rate for 6 months? Aka when i renew my policy in September will I pay more than 410? Sorry for the silly question. I don't understand much about insurance. Thank you :D

Edit: I am from New Jersey

can I register and insure a car to two different addresses in the same state? [MA]

    Posted: 06 May 2020 06:06 PM PDT

I hope it's okay to ask about this here-- I am in the process of buying my first car and insurance rates are RIDICULOUS where I live in Boston. I understand why they're more expensive but I've gotten quotes as high as 800/month, they're usually around 3-400. My parents live 20 miles away and the rates there are much cheaper, less than 100 per month. I'm expecting to be spending most of my time there anyway and I am fully moving back in September. For now though I want to register it here in the city so I can get a street parking sticker for the rest of my lease. I guess I could switch the insurance address once I move but wow 300 a month is so much, it makes me want to wait to buy the car even though it would be really helpful to have while I'm stranded here in the pandemic. I don't want to commit fraud obviously and I have a feeling I know the answer but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Work demanding back payment for insurance (Canada)

    Posted: 06 May 2020 05:19 AM PDT

I went on sick leave for mental health (before Covid) on EI, and was using my insurance for therapy. My work is now demanding back pay for having the insurance but did not inform me at all that I would be owing per week the insurance.

Not sure weather to pursue legal advice / action, as I'm on a small EI amount and can't afford any payments.

Informed my work that I wouldn't be coming back and that they didn't detail any insurance debt, they admitted not informing me but still are giving me the option of going back and paying off the insurance or make a full payment.

    Hopefully simple question?!?!?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 03:41 PM PDT

Hi I have a pretty straightforward question. If someone uses crutches and will have to use crutches the rest of their life will they get approved at the initial phase of applying. I'm asking for myself. Very long story short I've had 5 hip replacements in the last 4 years due to infection. Last sept I fell and fractured my femur and when they I went to the hospital my hip was infected again so my surgeon decided for my overall health we needed to take the hip completely out. He had to take a lot of extra bone with it so now my leg is close to 3 inches shorter than the other so I have to use crutches to walk. I'm just curious if it's a straightforward thing that if you use crutches the rest of your life you will be accepted.

Client would like to fire the current agent. The program manager says they don't accept BOR's. I've never had a BOR declined.

Terminated from my job back in mid March of this year... just got off the phone with my insurance provider and apparently I’m still active. I’ve been getting free health insurance through a job I no longer have for like 2 months now, will I have to pay them back?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 10:55 AM PDT

I haven't used the insurance since I assumed it was long expired... so there's no claims or anything against it since March. What should I do?

Home inventory: receipts, cost estimates, or links to what a comparable item would cost today?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 02:30 PM PDT

I just added replacement cost coverage to my condo owner's policy. I am in the process of making a home inventory and have some questions I thought I'd throw out:

    1. My condo came with certain used appliances - fridge, stove, etc. - that I don't have receipts for since I didn't buy them specifically. Should I just be photographing them and writing down make and model, or should I also attempt to figure out what comparable new appliances would cost today when making my total value estimate? I.e., the cost of a new non-stainless steel GE fridge today vs. the cost of the 20-year-old non-stainless steel fridge I currently have.
    2. Related question for electronics. I have a 4th generation iPad purchased brand new in 2013 that I still use daily, which was discontinued in 2013 in favor of the newer models. When estimating a replacement cost, do I look for what it would cost to buy a refurbished 4th generation iPad, or to buy a new current model iPad of similar specs (or the lowest possible specs, since that's probably closest to what an older model had)?
    3. For clothes: I have bought a lot of designer clothes at discounts or on sale. Let's say that I bought a brand new Michael Kors winter coat five years ago for $80 but that the tag price is $250. Let's also say that that particular coat is no longer sold, but a similar Michael Kors coat that I could buy this year might retail for $275. When thinking about replacement cost, should I list that item as $80, $250, or $275?

I'd love any advice y'all might have as I try to figure out if I have enough total coverage/capped coverage for every item category! Thank you in advance.

    Terrorism Coverage Scam?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 12:12 PM PDT

    Hi All

I just bought a Condo and I noticed the insurance premium was really high for the building compared to others similar sized buildings in the neighborhood. I looked into it and discovered more than half the premium is for terrorism coverage?? It's a $360 monthly terrorism premium on a 6 unit building in Chicago - not even close to downtown. The treasurer had taken over the policy some years ago and never noticed.

I looked at old policy statements and it appears the premium for terrorism insurance went from $30 to $268 back in 2012- no explanation in the statement as to why..

This all seems like a big scam- also the terrorism coverage has a billion exclusions and i think the federal gov would payout most damage in the highly unlikely incidence of terrorism damage.. the insurance company says we can't remove the coverage until November.. So we're going to look into new providers- though i feel like there should be some recourse for this gratuitous premium- they've been handing out this fee for years!!

Is this a common premium or issue? I am honestly shocked.. I think the policy was initially purchased in the early 2000s.. So given the time I can see how someone might have tacked it on just in case, but the oldest statement i have is from 2010 and it was only a $30 premium for terrorism coverage then and likely far less when first added.

Dental Insurance sent me 3100 dollar bill.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 12:04 PM PDT

I got Invisalign last year and it was done by November/December. Last year I had my own coverage with a lifetime maximum of 1500 and my parents coverage with a lifetime maximum of 2000. This year I am not covered by my parents insurance, only my own. Because the procedure was done last year, all coverage is based off my insurance and parent's insurance from last year correct? It seems like the insurance is trying to use this year's coverage to say that I have to pay the remaining amount due out of pocket. I'm in NC.

Hail damage and need advice on whether to claim it

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:31 AM PDT

We had a massive hailstorm in the Chicago area a couple of weeks back and everyone in my neighborhood has thousands of dollars in damages. I immediately filed a claim with Geico for my new car because the damage was extensive and obvious, but it took some times to get quotes on the house. Now everyone is quoting me at least $15k in damage to the roof/siding/gutters. The hail definitely took years of life off the roof, but there's no evidence it's causing leaks right now and multiple contractors told me they don't think it needs urgent repair.

I have a $5k deductible on my Chubb homeowners policy, and normally I'd file a claim in a heartbeat, but here's the rub: I had a $20k claim for basement water damage with a different insurer two years ago, and I'm afraid if I file another claim this soon Chubb will cancel or non-renew me and I may have to switch to an insurer of last resort.

So what should I do? Thanks!

    No Health Insurance & Pregnant

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:23 AM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

Just a quick rundown of my pregnant girlfriend's situation..

She was separated from her first husband for more than five years. They just officially divorced early this March which would make her eligible for special enrollment at her job. The thing is that the insurance won't accept her because her ex-husband dropped her off his insurance in January and its been over 90 days. She's a teacher so enrollment is in August which then goes in effect in September.

The question I have is how expensive is it for the first 3-4 months of being pregnant? Would it be worth having her enrolled in another type of insurance until she can sign up at her workplace? She said she went to the Obamacare website and received quotes for around $300+ a month. So it would be around $1,200 total.

Am I better off paying out of pocket until then?

Thanks for the help in advance.

    Hit and Run

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:22 AM PDT

Pardon if this isn't the right place or it, but I have a general auto insurance question. I own a white car and have great coverage. The car was hit in the front by a black car and tore the tow hook (for show) from the thread in the frame.

At first I assumed someone had kicked the hook and it bent out. However the following day after noticing this mark I saw a black Altima with front bumper damage. It is clear as day it was the car that struck mine and I often park in front of this car facing it.

I planned to file a claim sooner but had to file glass claims twice in the last month. Bad luck I guess.

Do I have to make a police report if I want their insurance to cover it? I'd rather not pay a deductible and as I said it is painfully obvious this vehicle hit me, but alas I have no proof. I have spoken to the owner, who played dumb and said she'd come talk to me after speaking with her husband. That was weeks ago. Just looking for some insight. Thanks

Denied claim as drone was considered an aircraft

    Posted: 06 May 2020 10:02 AM PDT

We lost a small drone and the insurance company is arguing that the drone is an excluded item in the policy as it is considered an aircraft.

The policy on Limitations and Exclusions are as follows,

The coverage benefits are not available in respect of the following:

    (v) automobiles, motorboats, airplanes, motorcycles, motor scooters, snowblowers, riding lawn mowers, golf carts, lawn tractors, any other motorized vehicles (except for miniature electrically powered vehicles intended for recreational use by children), or any of their respective parts or accessories;

    My thoughts are

    1. The "automobiles, motorboats, airplanes*, motorcycles, motor* scooters, snowblowers, riding lawn mowers, golf carts, lawn tractors, any other motorized vehicles" – are used for transportation &
    2. "except for miniature electrically powered vehicles intended for recreational use by children" is provision for toy which they are arguing that a toy drone is an aircraft thus denying our lost claim

Just don't know how to word my points back to the claim department

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you

    Additional insured question

    Posted: 06 May 2020 10:02 AM PDT

Wife got a job working for a property management company. Basically checking on houses, taking marketing questions and what not. She uses her personal car and is not provided a company car. Her work is requiring to be added as an additional insured party to her policy(NOT interested party) they don't pay for the car or any mileage. But offered 100 bucks a check to cover gas after she questioned why.

Am I wrong to think this sounds shady?
