Can an underwriter produce a loss history run if no claims were ever made on the policy? Posted: 04 May 2020 02:21 PM PDT I am working with a new broker for an apartment building policy. The new broker is asking for a loss history run, but the previous broker is stating that, since no claims were ever filed on the policy, they cannot produce a loss history run. The new broker says that this is false, and that the loss history run is required in order to issue a new policy. So who here is right, the new broker or the previous one? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Questions about recent removal of DWI. Posted: 05 May 2020 02:21 AM PDT So recently I was released from probation and one of my charges was an DWI( all charges were SIS). I'm looking to purchase a new vehicle my question is should I stay with my current insurance(high risk I believe) or shop around. I am a young adult and am not sure how this works, if i can get a better rate can I just cancel my current plan and switch over without being penalized? (sorry for the ignorance as I'm looking for some guidance and help on this topic). United States~ Missouri [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 May 2020 02:18 AM PDT Hey all. I've recently started down the path of purchasing a home and the next step I am to do is get homeowners insurance. The house is in SC, 2300 sq foot, new build (2020) and is not in a flood/tornado/earthquake area. I've done multiple online quotes but most of them call me to give me my quote and then they start saying I should add or take off things that don't really make sense to me. It just seems like they're trying to upsale certain things. Really, the only ones that haven't been pushy are Geico. I've talked to one broker who wasn't really any help at all (told me to do online quotes which I had already done lol). I'm new to this process so does anyone have any advice on how to go about it? I've looked at the policies and talked to people over the phone about tree damage but have not been able to get a straight answer. I've got an older tree whose branches hang over my house so I am a bit worried about falling branches. [link] [comments] |
Finally, an Online Tool You Never Really Wanted - The Insurance Excuse Generator Posted: 05 May 2020 02:11 AM PDT This is the perfect tool for finding an excuse for something you did to get insurance. Obviously it's humor.. but have fun .. knock yourself out or your car. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 May 2020 05:15 PM PDT Hello, I was wondering the best way to go about filing this claim: I went to check on my car for the first time in about 5 weeks. Since we've been quarantined with the COVID-19 Pandemic, I haven't had to drive anywhere. It was in a covered parking space in my apartment complex. I guess some water had gotten into my car prior to me moving it to the covered space that I did not notice. When I went to go check it today, I found that it was covered in severe mold. From everything I've read, it would be nearly impossible/extremely expensive to remove all of the mold and make the car safe to drive again. How exactly should I made this claim to my insurance? Water damage? I know that most auto insurance won't cover mold damage. A few more details: - Full Coverage from GEICO since car is being financed currently. (Only two payments left) - Here are some images of the damage. - I am in Los Angeles, CA. [link] [comments] |
What to do if insurance estimate is lower than body shops estimate. Posted: 05 May 2020 12:14 AM PDT I recently got two estimate from two different body shops in Washington state and both said my door skin would have to be replaced. One about $2600 and the other $2500. Geico did my estimate with photos but came back with a $1100 estimate. When they redid it they came back with only $1600 from the photos the body shop sent over. Not sure what to do about it. [link] [comments] |
Covered CA (eligible for Medi-cal based on income) - Still processing my documents? Posted: 04 May 2020 10:34 PM PDT I applied for Covered CA and received a letter that stated that I was eligible for Medi-Cal based on my income, due to me being laid off because of COVID. I applied on March 24th, and sent it my proof of documents for elibility (that I'm not longer insured with my old company) on March 30th. I still haven't received any status updates yet. Is the process taking longer for any one else? I keep calling the covered ca number but they keep transferring me to my local health care services department who is handling my application but they aren't answering their phones [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 May 2020 09:51 PM PDT I am about to graduate and am trying to budget everything. I am trying to determine if I am allowed to stay on my parents car insurance policy or not (it would be a lot cheaper to do such). I am currently on their insurance with Geico and I own my car and it is in my name, not my parents but the policy under my parent's name. I will no longer live in the same house. Not sure if any other info is needed, appreciate any help with this! Edit: parents live in Kansas, I will live in Missouri [link] [comments] |

To get child life insurance, or not get child life insurance... that is the question Posted: 04 May 2020 09:06 PM PDT To give a bit of background... My husband and I have one child, 18 month old boy. When I was born my parents bought me a policy that has one small yearly premium (these apparently don't exists anymore). I am fortunately a healthy 28 year old who was also able to get a term life insurance policy for family, but my husband was denied. Unfortunately, he has severe chrones disease and no company will consider insuring him after seeing his scans, etc. Therefore, I feel little guy and I would be screwed if something were to happen to my husband.Yet... if something (god forbid) happened to me... everyone would be completely fine financially. Topic of question.... My husband gets extremely pissed off whenever I try talking about life insurance for our child. My husband says it would make more sense for us to create another type of investment for little one. The grandparents already have a 529 started. It's just I grew up with it ingrained in my head that life-insurance is a must. I mean I can see my husbands point, but part of me feels like I would be hurting my child's future by not helping to prepare him for later stages in life .Though my little guy is supposedly piggybacking my 30 year term policy, I just want to make sure I'm doing right by him as a parent. Would greatly appreciate any advice or thoughts. Get a policy for little one and tell my husband to deal? Or are there other better options?? [link] [comments] |
Car Insurance premium reduction/partial refund? Posted: 04 May 2020 07:01 PM PDT I've been hearing that car insurance companies have been giving some money back to the customers due to people driving a lot less. Not sure how true this is, but I've seen a few things floating around on social media regarding this. I have State Farm as an auto insurer. Any chance I can get some money back? Also, I just received a bill for my next policy renewal which is due June 1- any chance I can ask for a discount given the current times? [link] [comments] |
Am I at Fault for Auto Accident? Posted: 04 May 2020 03:14 PM PDT I was backing out of an empty parking lot in Texas. I had pulled completely out of the spot, with my car at maybe a 40° angle. I put my car into drive. 1-2 seconds later, a car's front-right bumper rams into the center of my back bumper. Both parties are claiming not at-fault. Other driver is claiming he post-accident photos show my car was not 100% out of the parking spot and therefore I must have still been backing out, declaring he had right-of-way. However, you can clearly see from photos that the collision caused both cars to shift several feet from the point of impact. His car was 3-4 feet from point of impact. My car was knocked several feet forward. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Is changing from HDHP with HSA to low deductible insurance with FSA possible at qualifying event? Posted: 04 May 2020 06:25 PM PDT I am experiencing a qualifying event and as a result I am changing from HDHP with HSA to a low deductible plan. I would like to enroll in my company's Healthcare FSA and would like to know the rules on how this works. I am located in WA states but I do not believe that matters. The Healthcare FSA is not a limited purpose FSA (its valid for any medical expense as defined by the IRS). I know I cannot use the FSA for past Healthcare expenses but I would like to know: 1. Am I allowed to enroll in the healthcare FSA given I contributed to my HSA earlier in the plan year (while I had a HDHP) 2. Are there any gotchas I should know about? 3. Am I posting in the right sub or is there a better place to post this question? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 May 2020 05:49 PM PDT I have a Texas car insurance quote that I'm not sure if it's full coverage or not, but I can't post the photo here because photos aren't allowed. There is no compromising information on it. Can anyone help?! [link] [comments] |
Should I file a claim for $1000 of damage with $500 deductible? Posted: 04 May 2020 05:29 PM PDT I backed in to a stump the other night, didn't see it in the dark. Luckily I was going slow but the car needs a bumper cover. Initial estimate is $1080, and in my experience the initial is usually higher with this shop. I have Progressive, totally clean driving and insurance record. I'm thinking I'm going to pay out of pocket and avoid the at fault claim on my collision. What say you? [link] [comments] |
Auto insurance company trying to punish me a year after an incident? Posted: 04 May 2020 10:50 PM PDT Hi, so I received a letter in the mail today stating that the premium on my car insurance will go up because of a speeding ticket I got nearly a year ago today. Is this fair? I'm losing the good driver discount. This is the only ticket I have ever received and it is the only point I have on my record in the six years I've been driving. I only ask because it has been a year. Is there any way I can dispute this? Edit: I'm in Ohio [link] [comments] |
How can I best help my best friend's mother with their roof? Posted: 04 May 2020 10:52 AM PDT Hi all,I own an exterior home remodeling company and ran into a situation with my best friend's mother-in-law's roof. She told me her insurance company is only willing to cover the repairs for wind related wind damages. She's missing shingles on pretty much all facets of the roof (totaling 9 facets) and the roof was not originally installed to code (no ice/water shields or drip edge). I've dealt with other insurance companies in the past and just accepted whatever they provided the homeowners, either repairs or complete roof replacement. Yet, with this many shingles missing, it feels like she's getting the short end of the stick. I want to get her the best compensation possible and could use your input. Are there any particular phrases, keywords or verbiage I could use to help ease the cost of replacement? I've heard some people use the term "continuous damage" to indicate more shingles will be damaged due to repairs. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to this post. My bf's mother-in-law will be greatly appreciative of your help! -----EDIT----- I apologize for my ignorance and appreciate the quick feedback. We are Maryland and I'm a fully licensed and insured company. The roof is no more than 4 years old but the originally installers did a poor job. The damage occurred two weeks ago due to a heavy windstorm. The insurance company is proposing patching 30 shingles throughout the roof facets, though all nine (9) facets have damage. I know for a fact that another good storm will cause further damage. I'm not sure which of the two policies she carries or if she has the upgrade bylaw. Question - Wouldn't it behoove the insurance company to replace the roof if they know future damage will occur and more claims will be made? [link] [comments] |
Selling/trading a vehicle, do I keep 1 form or 3? Posted: 04 May 2020 03:52 PM PDT When you fill out the carbon copy, does the purchaser get 1 form or 3? Filing a Claim for Collision Repairs Posted: 04 May 2020 03:24 PM PDT At fault in a minor collision. Filed a claim to cover the other driver's damage, was planning to pay for my own repairs as they will be barely above the deductible limit if at all. Insurance representative said filing a claim would not affect my premiums as they are already paying out for the other car's damage. I would only be reimbursed a few hundred dollars at most but seems silly to leave money on the table. Am I missing something? [link] [comments] |
My advisor is trying to sell me whole life. Posted: 04 May 2020 03:05 PM PDT My wife (22) just became a financial advisor. I (22) majored in finance in college so have a pretty solid finance background. I am an officer in the military and have the $400k SGLI term policy ($29/mo) for the remainder of my military career. I am adamant that we do not get whole life, and my reluctance to whole life causes her to essentially say I am selfish for not thinking about kids/family once we die. She gives me the shpeel that whole life is dollar for dollar, builds cash value, protects family's standard of living AND investments, and all that nonsense. Also, she says it will be hard to sell it when I refuse to even support her. If I took out a 30 yr term policy today, it would last until age 52, and I presumably won't have any kids that still need to go to college, and living expenses that will need to be covered. My wife says that if I die at age 53 and had term, then I would be really screwing our family and not protecting our investments, as my retirement account and all investments would drain too quick. Lastly, me not wanting to purchase whole life through her makes her upset and leads to her saying things like I am not supporting her, and it is hard to go to work when all the Financial Advisors and their spouses at her office have whole life, and I'm the only one who doesn't--I'm the black sheep in this situation. She says that if I continue to hold out on whole life, she will simply take out a whole policy on me by herself (IDK why she would pay nearly $500/mo on WL when I can get a $30 policy. Should I: (1) Cave in and just get it in order to 'support' her and not have to listen to her gripe. (2) Get term, invest the difference, and have $3M sitting in my account when I'm 60. (3) Get Universal, so I can have the lifelong death benefit with out the BS 'cash value', and invest the difference (4) Something different/You're thoughts???? Thanks in advance. This situation is frustrating to say the least. [link] [comments] |
SquareTrade protection plans - options Posted: 04 May 2020 03:02 PM PDT I bought a phone from Target two years ago and the phone is completely destroyed. I thought when I bought the squaretrade for it there was an option to get a check for the value of the phone, but now squaretrade is telling me that I have only two options: bring it to a repair place (ridiculous in times of Covid) or get the same phone back (a 2+ year old outdated Samsung phone). Why are they not offering me a check? Many folks online reporting receiving a check from squaretrade. I paid over $200 for this phone over the last two years? [link] [comments] |
Need help choosing between different insurance options related to umbrella policies Posted: 04 May 2020 12:46 PM PDT I'm in the US. I only have auto insurance and since I got a new place I was thinking of rental's insurance. I was also looking into personal umbrella insurance in case I get sued (for example if I was playing basketball, somebody said I injured them negligently, and I get sued). I was thinking about the basketball situation, what if somebody got falsely accused in a criminal situation (accused of aggravated assault over a basketball foul), wouldn't the legal feels and criminal defense dramatically hurt their personal finance. So I was just wondering are there any types of insurance that cover legal fees? It seems like personal liability just covers civil legal issues such as someone suing you for defaming them. Furthermore personal liability only covers negligence right? So let's say you injured someone in pickup basketball but you argue you weren't negligent in court. Wouldn't those court fees dramatically hurt your personal finances? Is there insurance for this type of situation? [link] [comments] |
