I did it boys, I got an industry job

    Posted: 01 May 2020 02:34 PM PDT

After 8 busy seasons and four different CPA firms, I finally got a job in industry. Signed my acceptance letter today and I'll be giving my two week's notice on Monday.

Don't be discouraged if you're looking but not getting lots of responses. You only need one!

Is it normal to feel regret for leaving public accounting?

    Posted: 01 May 2020 01:26 PM PDT

First off - I hated public accounting. I did a good job, but felt like my soul died a bit each day. I ended up getting a great job for my level (went from A2 about to be promoted to a senior in financial reporting for a fast growing public company). However, I can't help but feel a twinge of regret. Is that normal? Does anyone have advice on how to get over it? I didn't feel like staying made a whole lot of sense (plan at this point is to stay in financial reporting unless the right opportunity arises in something else). Why can't i get over the knee jerk reaction of regret?

Just got approved for a PPP loan for the LLC that my wife and I own and are the only employees of. Any tips on making sure my documentation is good so that we can get the loan forgiveness?

    Posted: 01 May 2020 05:39 PM PDT

My wife and I have a photo/video LLC that she works for full time and work for on weekends. We recently got approved and funded for a PPP loan based on our yearly income from 2019. I know the loan can be forgiven if it is used for payroll and a select few other things, but I am new to business loans and want to make sure that me writing checks from that account to our personal account is enough or if I should do anything else? Any advice is welcome, thanks very much!

    I’m on PTO today, but...

    Posted: 01 May 2020 07:58 AM PDT

I can NOT get rid of this feeling that I should walk 30 feet over to my home office to log in and keep working. Was looking forward to using this PTO day all week since the accrued PTO balance is piling up, so that I could just chill, clean the apt, whatever.

I feel like I'm going to eventually get back on, which I know is wrong, because I don't have anything that needs done today or even in the next few. I hope I don't..

Never felt like this on a PTO day before the quarantine, anyone else??

HELP ME TO NOT LOG BACK ON.

    PA exit poll (results)

    Hi all,

Happy Friday! With the pandemic and quarantine going on, knowledge is power so I thought it was important for everyone to get a feel on what the PA industry is like so we can all make informed decisions (unless a decision was made for us by management in which case, RIP). A week ago I made a poll to find out when everyone was jumping ship from Public Accounting.

    PA Exit Poll

Below are the results from the poll!

We got pretty good turnout and some practical/applicable stories shared by our peers. To no ones surprise, leaving at the cusp of being Manager or Manager and above seem to be the popular choice followed by 1st year Senior. Personally for me I still want to leave as a 1st year senior, but happy to hear more of your thoughts and analysis so discuss away!

Those of you who were around for the 08 recession, what can us new-hires expect going into what looks like the beginning of the 2020 recession?

    Posted: 01 May 2020 12:02 PM PDT

Was looking at the current economic outlook this morning and things appear to be looking very not good. What can we expect in the lovely world of accounting through all of this? Any career specific or general advice for making it through it?

This summer I will be a financial reporting intern at a multi billion dollar company. What do you think my primary responsibilities will be? Also will this be good experience for getting an audit internship next summer?

Hi guys, current accounting major here. I love accounting. However, my lower back kills me if I sit down for too long. And it gets to the point where I can't even focus. Anyone got suggestions on how to relieve this pain permanently?

    Where to begin as treasurer?

    Posted: 01 May 2020 06:10 PM PDT

I recently got the role of treasurer for a new club at my university. This club is new so I have to start from scratch. I don't really have much accounting experience or knowledge, so where should I start?

I was thinking of making a budget but I don't know what to put in there since our expenses or funding haven't been established. I know that in accounting the important statements are balance sheet, income statement, and cashflow statement, but that's about all my accounting knowledge. Any advice would be appreciated (preferably from Australia since I live here, but any advice that is universally applicable is fine too)!
