How many of you all actually use your webcam?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 06:24 PM PDT

With Work From Home becoming mainstream I am truly shocked by the number of people who seem to use their webcam during web conferences.

I worked from home for 3+ years at national firm (or travelled a shit ton) and audited a bunch of clients remotely. We NEVER used our webcam.

Currently WFH in IT audit and holding a bunch of status meetings and all that jazz as we ramp up interim testing and still no webcam.

I have zero desire to see anyone's grainy face or what their kitchen looks like. Why is this a thing? Are accountants/auditors excluded from this? Or am I the oddball?

UPDATE: Should I resign before interview?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 11:30 AM PDT

I posted a few weeks about how miserable I was in my job and that I wanted to just walk, but I had an interview coming up. You fine folks talked me down. Proud to say that I indeed did not just walk, and am starting at the new company at the beginning of June. Great company with great benefits and an awesome culture. I am stoked! Now I just have to turn in my notice and tough it out for two weeks, but knowing that it will soon be over. Thanks guys!

Edit: I am turning in my two weeks. The question at the top was the title from my original post.

Thank you all. You gave me the push for a Staff Accountant role and I got it!

    Posted: 07 May 2020 04:36 AM PDT

I didn't despise doing Accounts Payable, but I felt there was more things to do and the pay rate was pretty abysmal. I'm pretty excited about this new opportunity. I was offered last week, but I was waiting for the background check to clear and a start date. Even the current situation was to make this job short-lived I now know that I have an attractive enough resume to apply for other staff accountant roles.

Is it normal for seniors/managers to not really answer questions? (B4 Audit)

    Posted: 07 May 2020 04:57 PM PDT

I'm in my 2nd year. This isn't every senior and manager I've had, but lately seems to be the majority.

I'll get notes or get stuck on a workpaper, try to solve it on my own, then compile a list of questions, go the senior/manager, say what I tried and what I'm stuck on—and I don't really get help. It's essentially just "figure it out." Then they get snippy about the status of open items.

Is this just how's it's gonna be? Because the passing off of responsibility down to the staff is really pissing me off.

I'm not asking dumb questions every minute with zero effort. I'm compiling a list, stating what I tried, and it's mostly with more complicated issues. Still nothing.
