Posted: 28 May 2020 03:49 AM PDT I've checked the IRS2Go App and all it says is this: "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available. I've tried calling many different IRS numbers but no one answers (most likely due to Corona). I appreciate any help; thanks! [link] [comments] |
Moving to a new state? What do I do with my LLC? Posted: 27 May 2020 11:34 AM PDT I am moving from North Carolina to Virginia and have an LLC for my small business. All of my sales are made online. I just spoke with an accountant in Virginia and my head is spinning. He said not to close down the LLC in NC and only register my business in VA with my current EIN? Does anyone have experience with this? How did you go about it? I am so confused on what to do and appreciate any help! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Opening bank account with my LLC Posted: 27 May 2020 09:54 PM PDT I'm looking to open a videography business, so the first thing I have to do is register my LLC and open a bank account with it. If I'm correct, all I earn through my business should be transfered into this bank account, right? Am I then allowed to buy groceries with it, or do I have to take out some fixed or not fixed amount of money each month as my loan? Is it allowed to transfer myself money into this account? (want to transfer first the minimum $500 to avoid fees) I'm asking mostly to avoid headaches when filing my taxes. I'm new to this so maybe my post sounds dumb. If there's any guide out there explaining everything in detail please let me know! [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on a tech support business geared towards senior/55+ communities. Posted: 27 May 2020 06:46 PM PDT Thinking about starting a tech support service for Seniors/55+ communities. The service will help them with setting up their phones, TV's, computers, help them learn how to use any new tech they have,, and addressing issues they are running in to. Anyone here done this before or have some feed back on this idea? [link] [comments] |
How much does self employed pay in taxes? I thought it was only ~15% Posted: 27 May 2020 07:53 PM PDT I thought self employed individuals only pay the self enployed tax but I have to pay social security and other taxes as well?? [link] [comments] |
Hiring am out of state employee that will work from CA. So lost on unemployment insurance Posted: 27 May 2020 07:23 PM PDT I will be hiring a worker that will be based in CA and work remotely. I know that CA requires unemployment insurance but I have no clue exactly what that means. The state site is not helpful and all the numbers I have called are busy due to covid. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this insurance? Is it through the state? Or is it through a third party like Allstate? Any advice would be great! [link] [comments] |
Feedback wanted for a website idea Posted: 28 May 2020 01:07 AM PDT I want to create a website that allows all small businesses in the region to list their products all under the same website. The principle behind this is to provide all businesses in the area with a platform to sell on and to make it much easier for the consumer to find their favorite local products and put in the orders together. Think of it as like buying from an online walmart, but everything is from a small and locally owned business. As an owner of a small business, would this be something you'd be interested in? We'll set up everything and handle the shipping and all you'd have to do is just apply to get your products listed on the website. It wouldn't be specific to one category but range from clothes to furniture to food. What do you guys think? [link] [comments] |
Does anyone here owns a rental property business? Posted: 27 May 2020 07:08 PM PDT Which one during this times? Short-term rentals (Airbnb) or long-term rentals? [link] [comments] |
Steps to mitigate Ransomware damage Posted: 28 May 2020 04:46 AM PDT Security experts predict that ransomware will be a $20 billion industry by the end of 2021. In most cases, the cost of the ransom is trivial compared to the cost of system downtime, missed sales, and lost credibility. And therein lies the incentive for victims of ransomware to pay off their anonymous blackmailers, so they can restore their systems and get their data back. Posted: 27 May 2020 07:22 PM PDT Hi everyone, I built a tool to manage multiple projects each one with an independent team. In the first column there is a list of the projects. When a project gets an update it moves to the top (like an inbox). For each project, you can access a Thread, a Kanban board (Like Trello), Chat (Like Slack), and Conference (Like Zoom). https://i.ibb.co/wwQWZPH/image.png https://i.ibb.co/v3Ldj48/image.png It is helping me a lot, and really hope it could help more people. I 'm making it free for a lifetime for the first users. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
My POS is driving my nuts. Finding alternatives is tough Posted: 28 May 2020 02:50 AM PDT So we are a small retail clothing store, one location. We use Clover currently, we have been in business for almost two years now and Clover was fine I guess if not a bit simplistic. COVID-19 hit and accelerated our ecommerce build out turns out clover has no great built in integration for a website though. I'm pretty tired of these third party apps nickle and diming me for every little thing. I've been looking into Shopify, Square and Lightspeed. I liked lightspeed because of its desktop POS which I could use on an iMac, a lot better for my needs rather than a proprietary device like clover as I need a good label/shipping printing setup as well for my employees. I really like Shopify's website/e-commerce but I'm not so sold on their POS I need to look into more I guess. Square is an obvious option I guess but their e-commerce solution with six seems really really basic. Lightspeed seemed pretty good as well, inventory was leaps and bounds ahead of clover but I didn't like that e-commerce site themes seemed like a monthly additional cost which is part of why I'd like to get away from clover Right now we use gravity payments for processing and pay a flat 1%+$0.05+ interchange fees which seem to range between 1.5%-2%. Is this normal? Should I be shopping for better rates? We also pay about $150 monthly for hardware rentals as well as a few third party clover apps. I would love any and all suggestions and insight because researching is making my cross eyed at this point [link] [comments] |
Can you share your experience running your business in multiple cities? Posted: 27 May 2020 10:47 PM PDT I have a business in Colorado and I feel I can model it in other cities around the US to implement building and installing our products. Running a business in other cities would be a new animal for me, although it's exciting in the possibility of it. Could you share your experience in operating your business in multiple cities and good things to know? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2020 07:51 PM PDT I've found it very difficult to locate skilled and diligent people in the professions such as CPA and legal assistance for a reasonable price. I've had bad experiences several times and I think I must be doing something wrong. I try to treat people great when I work with them, but constantly feel like I'm getting the short end of the stick. How do you go about finding great people to help your business? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Concerns over serving larger and more sophisticated clients as a small business. Posted: 27 May 2020 01:52 PM PDT Over the past 6 months, since forming an LLC and converting a free (since 2016) API service to subscription/fee based service, my client list grown steadily which I'm very excited about, however my client profile has also changed, and I have a few concerns. Shortly after transitioning to a paid service, most new clients were free tier conversions, and they skewed international and are low maintenance. Over the last 3 months, with new ad spend in the US, new clients tend to be larger organizations who expect more robust policies and documentation for things like data security, onboarding, infosec, etc. I am in conversation now with a publicly traded entity who has proposed changes to my Terms of Service that increase its size by 10x and would require ~10 documents. I've also been asked to carry commercial liability insurance which I don't currently have. How cautious do I need to be when dealing with clients/requests of this nature, who bring legal to the table? I am running the show by myself, and my core competency is engineering. I'm a little concerned and considering the benefit of serving these larger entities. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2020 10:31 PM PDT My partner and I want to start our own electrical company. (12+ years experience in the field) Where do we start? What's a tip you wish you had known or you're glad you knew? [link] [comments] |
Question: How do I create a custom app for my company that is linked to a database? Posted: 27 May 2020 10:06 PM PDT I am looking into ways to create a very user friendly and visually appealing custom application for the small business I work at. I heard about PowerApps and thought this would be perfect. But I have run into issues with how some data I want to include has multiple selections. There also seemed to be limitations within the Microsoft 365 subscription. I tried Podio and it was a step in the right direction, but I would like to be able to customize the visual appeal. I have explored options from this link: https://zapier.com/learn/forms-surveys/simple-database-app-builders/ and am now considering Wordpress with plugins - I would like the app to connect and update multiple data sources or a relational database. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

I am planning to partner with a small business to help revamp. Posted: 27 May 2020 08:49 PM PDT I was offered a partnership with a small restaurant. Is there anything I should be aware of in terms of legality issues that may arise? A little background The owner is looking to rebrand their existing restaurant and is looking for a business partner to help create/flip or expand on the current concept. I will be providing my intellectual property such as creating or expanding a new menu, social media, and daily restaurant functions just as a chef, along with learning managerial work and owner work such as handling vendors, finance, running the shop, training/hiring new employees etc. The deal was being paid salary, and receiving a percentage of profits after each month. I do not have to put any money in as it is already established, and any cost is from the business accounts. Is there anything I should be aware, or any steps I should take to start this process to protect myself in the future should anything happen? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2020 08:15 AM PDT I am a 20 year old college student at home for the summer and I'm working for a small landscape company that I've previously worked for. My boss gave me two options for getting paid this year: he would put me on payroll and I'd make $12-13 an hour or he would pay for my contracting license and he could contract me out to do smaller jobs he doesn't have time for and I'd make $18-20 an hour, but I'd just be responsible for my own taxes and all that. Which one would be more financially responsible and worth it to me, personally? [link] [comments] |
Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Posted: 27 May 2020 08:38 PM PDT Purchased and took over an existing franchise December 1st 2019. I know things are different because of Covid-19 but even the first 3 months after i purchased (Dec Jan and Feb) I felt like i made a mistake. I am overworked, exhausted, and feel like i can never stop worrying about the business. Covid-19 has helped me business grow tremendously though I am a franchisee for pizza delivery company - fast food.big chain. The extremly high turnover of the business has led to crazy long hours and insecurity about my schedule / business. average weekly hours is about 65 in shop not including the times i stop by and have to do orders, or inventory, ect. I have been looking for employees but Covid-19 has made it very difficult here to hire anybody. We have been looking for 2 months and only been able to hire 2 employee ( the only ones who actually sjowed up for the interview) and one quit once unemployment reduced her benefits. Im ranting I know Ijust want to know anyone with a small business / franchise at what point did you see the light at the end of the tunnel? when did you feel it was worth it? or did you realize you made a mistake and what happened? HOw did you find great employees that let you relax? Ive heard mixed reviews about franchises is alot of this because the extra franchise fees i have to pay? At what point did you realize you made a good or bad choice. Thanks, [link] [comments] |
