Jeffrey Gundlach is shorting the market, says a retest of the low ‘very plausible’

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:28 PM PDT

    KEY POINTS

    • DoubleLine CEO Jeffrey Gundlach said the market could retest its March low as investors could be underestimating the social disruptions from the coronavirus.
    • "I think a retest of the low is very plausible," Gundlach said. "People don't understand the magnitude of ... the social unease at least that's going to happen when ... 26 million-plus people have lost their job."
    • The so-called bond king revealed he just initiated a short position against the stock market.

Investors have $5.1 trillion hiding out in the shares of five companies, which will be tested this week

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/investors-have-51-trillion-hiding-out-in-the-shares-of-five-companies-which-will-be-tested-this-week-2020-04-27

Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet and Facebook are about to report earnings. Investors' expectations are high. More important than the earnings will be what the companies say about the future. I will be carefully listening to the conference calls. It is important for investors to remember that CEOs are highly incentivized to keep their stock prices high.

Massive Open Source Collection of Stock Market Tools & Resources

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 08:48 PM PDT

EDIT: Just a quick update to say thanks for the shiny metals and such! Soon it will be the only thing that has value after the fed destroys the dollar...lol

Hey everyone! Over the years I've collected tons and tons of market resources ranging from blogs to APIs to technical and fundamental analysis tools to books, videos, YouTube channels and beyond. For a while I've been working on organizing them into something we could share here on the sub to help answer all the "what are some good resources for learning about the stock market?" and "how do I get started in stocks?" type questions that always pop up across all these stock market subs.

This is by no means complete, but it's already quite thorough and I'd love your help in adding to it.

I've put it all on GitHub so it can be maintained and others can suggest additions and report broken links if/when they pop up, or make suggestions about order/organization or whatever! I will continue to add to it as I get around to it and come across new resources and rediscover old ones.

In the mean time, please comment here or feel free to issue a pull request if you know how, if there's anything I should add and I will add it in, or if you notice any broken links or issues! I know that I've missed many things so let me know what they are and we'll make this even bigger/better. In particular it'd be nice if we could categorize the books and create lists for different categories kinda like /r/securityanalysis did in their wiki, but I've added a few as a start.

Ok that's all! Open discussion, feedback welcome. Let's hear what you got.

TOO BIG TO FAIL keeps getting smaller - Carnival now a Fed sponsored Zombie

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:49 AM PDT

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-fed-intervention-saved-carnival-11587920400

" t was mid-March and the vultures were circling Carnival Corp., the largest cruise-line operator in the world.

That all changed on March 23 when the Federal Reserve defibrillated bond markets with an unprecedented lending program. Within days, Carnival's investment bankers at JPMorgan Chase & Co. were talking to conventional investors such as AllianceBernstein Holding and Vanguard Group about a deal. By April 1, the company had raised almost $6 billion in bond markets, paying rates far below those executives had discussed just days earlier.

The previously unreported tale of Carnival's rescue shows how effective the Fed has been in turning the debt spigot back on for large corporations.

The idea of a cruise company raising so much new debt even as the pandemic worsened caught many by surprise. Nevertheless, fear of missing out attracted more investors. When Carnival officially sold a $4 billion bond on April 1, it had enough demand to cut the interest rate down to 11.5% and issue a $1.75 billion bond that could convert into stock. "

What areas/stocks have been most affected by the pandemic?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:10 PM PDT

I've been following the market ever since the huge crashes in late March. From what I've gathered the most affected areas are, retail, casinos, restaurants, hotels, Cruise lines, airplanes/airliners, oil and theaters. I'm trying to figure out what stocks I should get into, and I'd like to see if I'm missing any major sectors or areas that will rebound eventually. Any advice is appreciated.

Thoughts on the US market peaking

What are your thoughts on the possibility of the US stock markets peaking in the relatively near future, as we have seen happen in the Japanese and the European markets? (to name a few)

What is the point of long term investing?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:09 PM PDT

I've been doing lots of research, both on and off Reddit. And I was wondering, what are the benefits of long term investing? I know that there's dividends, but they usually have very low percent payouts (less than 7%) every quarter. And I could be using all that money, buying things that will boost and then sell once they skyrocket? I might be completely wrong, but I'm not sure. I do know that taxes play a big role too. What are your thoughts?

What y'all think about American Century's first hidden-asset ETF? Tickers are: FLV, FDG

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 10:23 AM PDT

    Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/09/american-century-launches-first-active-nontransparent-etfs.html

    ANTs have arrived.

The first-ever actively managed, nontransparent exchange-traded funds, or ANTs, officially began trading last week, a major milestone that some see as a first step to changing the face of the ETF industry.

Unlike traditional ETFs, nontransparent ETFs are not required to disclose their portfolio holdings on a daily basis, a plus for active managers worried about getting front-run on their strategies. Instead, some will disclose their holdings monthly or quarterly, while others will point buyers to similarly structured mutual funds or share their holdings without disclosing the exact weightings.

Stock tickers are: FLV & FDG

FDG partly tracks American Century's Focused Dynamic Growth Fund, which counts widely popular stocks including Amazon, Alphabet and Facebook, while FLV will take up the popular cause of picking stocks that are "temporarily out of favor,".

New to the market, One month in

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:49 PM PDT

1000 deposited on March 23rd to brokerage account. As of today I have made 330 in profit. I am focusing on 4 stocks long term and I work with a couple of penny stocks at a time to grow the account. Sell at profit and roll half of profit into my long term stocks and find a new penny stock to work with. Did a lot of research and reading before openning the account. I love actively managing the account daily.

Stock watch List April 27, 2020

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:44 AM PDT

Good morning, here's my watch list

Gap Ups: AUDC, AVDL, AXSM, DKNG, DNOW, ELTK, FB, MRNA, NAT, NVDA, SCO, TLRY, YTEN

    Gap Downs: CNXM, ZM

SPY, QQQ, IWM all gapping up pretty significantly pre market. Usually these are the most difficult days to trade. Good thing is that SPY is gapping over the 50 day moving average and has held the prior 272 pivot level from 2019, both good signs. Last weeks action was a bit on the choppy side of things but with so many earnings reports being released this week, maybe we will get some cleaner action. SPY has room to move to around 300 until it runs into the 200 day moving average. We always enter trades with defined risk:reward calculated before hand, this can help eliminate large losses. Good luck trading today

What are your thoughts on "Mad Money"

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:32 PM PDT

I'm soon to be a new investor. I'm basing most of my future stock purchases on common sense (what people need and will go back to once the pandemic is over) and what areas have been most affected. For some more finer details and other advice, I was thinking maybe Jim Cramer. I got recommend some recent clips of his, and he seems pretty good. Although, I'm not sure since I'm new to this and still don't understand a lot of the terminology. So, my question is what are your thoughts on Jim Cramer and "Mad Money". Is he smart, stupid, reliable, a hack, etc?

What kind of effect should you expect from earnings reports?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:10 PM PDT

Its plausible to expect pretty much all companies, sans the Amazons of the world, are going to fall short of their expectations for the quarter. Does the actual report have any effect on prices/has it recently, especially considering that most everyone's reports are going to be unsatisfactory?

Is there a reason GDEN (Golden Entertainment) is up to $12.20 after hours?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 04:39 PM PDT

I was looking for Las Vegas stock last night and bought some GDEN shares this morning at $8.59.

It didn't really move much during the day, closing at $8.67. But at the moment it's at $12.20? Is there any news that came out? Or am I misreading something?

    Where Do I Begin?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:40 PM PDT

Hey there. Been interested in trading for a very long time and since I now have so much time on my hands, this is a great time to learn. I suppose I'm asking if anybody has some advice on where to begin. I am very diligent with things that require studying and research, so I figured I would take that route. Are there any specific websites, books, or courses that you could recommend? Are there types of investments that are better suited for beginners? And my last question: Is trading a realistic source of dependable revenue? The amount of work and learning this takes doesn't scare me, but I want to know what to expect. Is this something than an average person can "master" with enough hard work? Thanks.

New investor, should I get now or wait?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:37 PM PDT

I'm a beginner at this, I have a good amount saved up to invest (more than 5k) and I'm looking to long term invest mainly. Should I invest now (within this week) or wait? I've seen the market make lots of ups and downs and I feel like there'll be more crashes soon, but the economy could be reopened soon. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you

    Shorting Tesla

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:09 PM PDT

I am thinking to short Tesla. It was mentioned by Chanos on CNBC it is operating at 10x multiple.

How do I verify that figure?

At the moment 2020 4 > it is at 800

I would short it at 2020 8> expect it between 800 to 600

I would open the swing trade at 8 2020 and expect the price to down to 200 at 12 2020 due to the fact that Tesla's business is not an essential business but a luxury one.

    I appreciate the feedback

Bought it on robinhood, found on a statement from a few months ago that there was a spr transaction. What does this mean? What does spr stand for? Why did it happen? I understand the price drop but not how the shares dropped to 3. Just trying to learn from this. Any info will help, thanks.

    Raise Cash?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:27 AM PDT

Due to the rebound, I am officially up since the market crash. I cannot think of a good reason why the overall market won't go back down at least another 5-10%. With that being said, I feel that I should stop being greedy and trim my positions to raise some cash for when the market goes back down. Is anyone else raising cash right now?
