Posted: 29 Apr 2020 07:34 PM PDT located in los angeles. long story short i hit a tesla, my insurance covers 10k damage, just received a letter stating the damage is 20k and i am liable for the remaining 10, and they are requesting a check or to make payments or they will have to go to collections/ court. i am currently unemployed as most people are and 10k is a massive ask, do you think i could bargain with them and say i could pay them 5500 now and they'd take it? i'm going to call my insurance in the morning, just don't quite know how to proceed and my insurance hasn't been the most helpful in general. German clinic said inpatient treatment was necessary, American insurance disagrees Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:33 AM PDT TL;DR: I have a 5-figure outstanding bill from a German clinic for 3 months of inpatient treatment that the doctors said was required. My American insurer will only pay for 2 weeks. I am an American working in Germany for a large US firm. My employer provides coverage with a major insurance company, on a plan that treats overseas service the same as "in-network". I've never had a problem with any previous claims, and I've made a lot. This claim is the first one they've ever even partially denied. Last year, my teenage daughter complained of invasive suicidal thoughts. A psychiatrist talked to her and confirmed that this was very serious ("Level 3", out of 3, in urgency) and referred us to a clinic. She checked in, and we met with the staff regularly for status updates. Due to privacy laws, they weren't able to tell us the specifics of her situation, but each time they said that she needed to stay there. Finally, after a bit more than 3 months, she was cleared to go home. She's been in regular therapy ever since but has been doing fine. The provider billed our insurance. They didn't send a bill until several months after discharge, then there were many months of back and forth, with the provider sending more documentation, insurance failing to get it, or needing something else but failing to ask for it, etc. The day before yesterday, the provider emailed me to say that this was taking too long, and they were no longer willing to work with my insurer. They sent me a final bill that equates to around $40k, for the outstanding balance after what insurance paid. It asks for payment by 11 May. I called my insurer yet again to see what was going on and it turns out the claim was finally denied as "not medically required", as of two weeks ago. They said I should have gotten a letter with more details, but I never did, so they sent a copy of it via email. (The date said 7 January, even though they kept requesting documentation long after that.) It says their medical team determined that, after the first 2 weeks, treatment could have been pursued as outpatient, so they will only pay for the first 2 weeks and deny the rest of the claim. The letter includes instructions to make an internal appeal with the insurer. I could maybe, juuuust about cover paying for the bill, wiping out our savings, but obviously would rather not. From my perspective, I asked the licensed professionals if it was safe to take my daughter home, and they said it was not, so she stayed in. My questions are:

Car Accident Claim Advice Needed (CA State Farm Insurance) Posted: 30 Apr 2020 02:47 AM PDT I was in a car accident with another vehicle where both parties backed out of a parking lot at the same time making vehicle contact. My vehicle and the other parties' vehicle took scratch damage, but the other parties' took side door damage and is visibly damaged with about a foot-long dent. I filed a claim, but the damage I took was less than the deductible, so I decided not to fix the back bumper scratches. My insurance (State Farm) and their insurance (All-State) negotiated the incident and on September 9th, 2019, State Farm sent me the final investigation results which concluded it as a 50/50 liability situation where both parties were at fault and were on the line for expenses. Today, 4/30/2020, I get another notice from State Farm saying I was 51% at fault and had no idea they did another investigation or needed to do another investigation. The letter also said that the other parties' vehicle damage exceeds $1,000 which would void a discount I was receiving. My question is, should I fight this in court or the like? Is this fraudulent for State Farm to do this? Does anyone know the best course of action? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Both Parents Passed Away..in Thailand.. no wills Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:51 PM PDT |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:42 PM PDT Hi all, I got into an accident about 5 months ago. It was at night and I checked my sideview mirror and blind spot before switching lanes to the right (I had my blinker on). I thought it was safe to do so, but I ended up swiping the back left side of another car. I failed to see her because she didn't have her headlights on. My fault. It was very minor though. We pulled over and she seemed completely fine. She was extremely rude despite me being completely compliant and polite. She was walking around, yelling at me, called her husband on the phone. We exchanged information. Early the next morning, she texts me saying she has 7 herniated discs and expects compensation from me. All I replied was that I will be calling my insurance to handle this. I'm very surprised she claimed to be injured because I had a friend in my passenger seat, and my passenger is completely fine despite being closer to the point of impact between our two cars (my front right bumper got damaged). I come to find out through my insurance adjuster that she claimed she had a passenger in her car, when she didn't, and had gotten a lawyer. My adjuster told me that she is partially at fault for not having her headlights on, and there is no way she could have been that injured from a swipe to her car. After back and forth communication with my insurance, they said I didn't send certain information/pictures and that I wasn't complying. In reality, I had been very prompt with giving the information they asked for and there just seems to be some disconnect. I've tried e-mailing and calling my adjuster to clarify things, but she hasn't called me back despite my multiple voicemails and hasn't replied to my e-mails either. Now I've gotten a letter sent home saying that I should be prepared to pay money out of pocket for damages and the injuries of the other driver if it's above my claim policy... so does that mean that I'm pretty much screwed? I'm just so frustrated because I can't seem to reach my adjuster and I have no idea what is going on and if she got my pictures and information. Should I just be prepared to get a lawyer and fight this myself? I just don't want that lady to get away with lying to insurance about the situation. But it's pretty much my word against hers, and my passenger's testimony. I'm under the impression that insurance companies fight to the end for you, but I feel like my insurance company is already admitting defeat with the letter they sent home to me? I'm just a little lost and concerned as this is my first accident and dealing with insurance. Also: I live in California! [link] [comments] |
Former Employer forgot to cancel Health Coverage Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:21 AM PDT I switched jobs in February 2019, my former employer didn't cancel my health coverage until August, when it was realized by them that they hadn't done it. So now I am double covered from February to August. My new insurance found out about it and has denied and unprocessed 15 claims from February to August and wants them to go through my old companies plan first. My former employer is trying to correct the date but the old insurance company (Harvard Pilgrim) is denying it. My deductible is met on my new plan and I'm afraid if we can't get the date fixed I will have to pay the deductible on my old insurance as well. Any advice on fixing this? Do I have any rights here? Location is NH [link] [comments] |
Question regarding fire claim for VCR Posted: 29 Apr 2020 09:02 PM PDT We had a house fire and are putting together a list to claim items for insurance. We have an old Sony VCR that is still in great condition, but may have had smoke damage so we're claiming it. However, since VCRs are no longer sold, how will insurance handle it? Or any advice on how to handle it with insurance? Thanks in advance. Edit: I'm in California. [link] [comments] |

Crashed Car - Had Policy but Car Was Not Listed - Help Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:04 PM PDT I have two cars. One is a winter car. The other is a sportier summer car. I got the summer car out of storage two days ago. I was driving it yesterday and it hydroplaned in the rain. I crashed. I then called insurance to report it. I then realized I did not have that car's insurance activated since I just got it out of storage. I forgot to reactivate it! They don't want to cover it at all. I completely understand. But is there any thing I could say to them that might make them reconsider? [link] [comments] |
What can I do about this all state insurance situation? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:22 PM PDT EDIT TO INCLUDE LOCATION: Our policy is in Colorado, but we currently live out of state, and will likely relocate to California/NY in a few months. I have All State Car insurance. I specifically requested to pay in 6 months intervals rather than monthly because it is cheaper. The last 6 months policy we had was from September 2019 - February 2020, and somebody (not me) apparently changed our policy to monthly payments. I didn't notice this until a month ago. I ended up paying an extra $180 (about $30/month extra) total over that time frame than the amount for 6 months payment. I called my agent's office exactly 3 weeks ago to ask what the deal was, and spoke with Carl (made up name). Carl's initial response was that we specified monthly payments and not a 6 months payment. I told Carl that we did no such thing and requested that he look at his notes from our last discussion. After checking, Carl said he did see that we requested for 6 months payment, but for some reason, their system didn't go through. I asked Carl to process a refund for the extra $180 we paid as a result of his error, and he said he will call someone (I think the 1-800 All State people? not positive) to ask if this is allowed. A week after, I called to inquire about this, and Carl told that me he hasn't heard back yet, but that he'll check in again. During this call, my phone died, so I sent him an email and asked him to respond to the email instead because I could not charge my phone at the time. I ended up calling his office from Google Hangouts and spoke to one of his colleagues and asked to be transferred to Carl, but was told that Carl was busy and will call me later. He never called. The week after this (a week from today), I sent Carl an email inquiring about this. No response. Today I sent Carl another email. No response. I then called the local office again, and Carl's colleague answered. I explained the situation, and he said he will check in with Carl. 30 seconds later, he came back and told me that Carl said he can't help me with this, and that I can't be refunded, and that Carl can't speak with me directly about it. I asked "why?" and his colleague said he doesn't know but that he can have Carl call me later today. I never received a call from Carl, so I sent him an email late afternoon explaining that this is an error on his part, and that I'm disappointed by him ignoring the many forms of communication I have attempted with him, and that he needs to process a refund for me. I told him that if he can't help me, then I would like to speak to his superior about this. I also called the 1-800 All State Billing department and was told that they can't help me because (1) The issue originated from September, and that was too far back for them to help (2) That this is an issue for the local agent to help with. I'm pretty pissed off by this because Carl has seemingly avoided my calls and emails, and seems like he's trying to escape responsibility. In total, he has ignored 4 calls and 4 emails from the past 3 weeks, and has told his colleague that he would call me back on at least 2 occasions and never did so. What can I do about this situation? Should I threaten with legal action? File a complaint on BBB? Also, I'm going to switch to another All State insurance agent. Is this easy to do? I've spoken to Carl in the past about other issues and he just seems like a useless dumbass, and I don't want to deal with this office in the future. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:57 PM PDT Hello, Question on auto insurance and fault with New York's "No Fault" law. If someone hits my car and is found to be at fault, is it expected that their insurance is going to cover the damage to both my car and theirs? Am I on the hook for anything, like the deductible? Car punctured possibly by host Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:00 PM PDT Currently we are staying in an airbnb. It's a smaller residence next door to the host. Husband was off yesterday and we were gone most of the day. This morning while walking the dog, he noticed a penny-sized puncture hole in his car door. I immediately start filing with our auto insurance. My husband thinks he found what could have made the puncture (I'm going to refer to it as a bolt) and after asking our host, he said that mowing was done and that these bolts have been found around the property a lot. We already filed through our insurance and he's offered to work something out but should we try to fo through his insurance and would it be auto or home? ETA: in FL [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:33 PM PDT Hi there Last night my dad was driving my uncles truck to do yard work and hauling and backed into my car parked on our driveway. The truck was completely fine. Not more then a scratch that we wiped off after. My car on the other hand is pretty badly damaged. Question is... because the truck is fine and no repair is needed, will my dads insurance for his car cover to fix mine, or how will that work. Thanks for your help [link] [comments] |

Is a dent caused by someone else worth submitting a claim? Would I win? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:08 PM PDT I just left a grocery store parking lot in Kansas City, Missouri where the car next to mine very clearly slammed into my car (it's windy, so likely by accident). I know it was them because their white paint was smeared on my car door, as well as some of my paint on theirs. Normally I wouldn't care if it was just a scratch, but it scratched off a quarter size worth of my paint off and visibly dented my car. It's such an eyesore. I waited, but they never showed up, so I just took pictures of everything (including their license plate) left a note, and then left. Is this something I could win payment for if I submitted a claim to my insurance? I can't decide if it's worth my time, but my pictures clearly show it was that car who did it to mine. I'm afraid of submitting a claim and then it in turn affects my insurance rates. [link] [comments] |
In Canada, do you have to be notified when your coverage ends? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 11:43 AM PDT Is it okay for it to say "coverage ends if...." on say, page 30 of a 100 page booklet. The information was available. Or... do you have to tell them when it actually happens, "effective xx date, your covarage is ending" Google only found examples across the border. Wasn't sure where to post. Tyia [link] [comments] |
Is it cheaper to get life insurance while still employed? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 07:22 AM PDT I want to get life insurance outside of my employer (I do have life insurance through my employer but want to get an additional policy outside of that). Does it make more sense for me to get it now while I'm young (30 - in good health) even though I'm insured through my work? Or to wait and just get it if I leave/get laid off from my job (which may or may not happen, I'm not currently at risk for a layoff or anything)? Would it be cheaper to get life insurance while employed/already insured? Or does it not matter? Edited to add: I'm currently in MN but moving to CO in July. [link] [comments] |
Renewing Auto vs Purchasing New Policy Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:55 AM PDT My 6 month insurance is coming up for renewal, so I went to my insurer's site and looked at making my next 6-month payment. I was shocked to see that I'd be paying more considering that my state (Michigan) had a recent change to insurance law that people were predicting would lower premiums. I was confused because I have never been in a collision or received a ticket, and my credit score has only increased since my last policy purchase. It seemed weird, so I filled out a quote on the same insurer's tool with the same coverage and same information as my previous policy and the output said that I'd be paying less if I purchased the policy that way instead of renewing my current one. Is this normal? Is there anything I should be worried about purchasing a new policy so long as I make sure there's minimal overlap in terms? [link] [comments] |
