We met on Tinder in December and started seeing each other in January. We've slept together a handful of times. I decided it would be best to stop seeing each other around the start of last month when they started telling people to stay away from each other.

At first he was really understanding but over the past couple weeks he's been pushing to see me more. I kept trying to make plans to see him once everything has calmed down but he's been insisting on coming over to my place despite everything. Yesterday I finally put my foot down and let him know we wouldn't be meeting now or later since I didn't like how pushy he was being.

He called me and we got into it because I wouldn't let him come over. Once we hung up, he snapped me a video of us HAVING SEX in his fucking car. I don't even know when he took it. It's dark so you can't really see me but it's clearly my voice. On the video he wrote that I would either let him come over or he'd send the video to my boss and tell his mom because HE'S 17. I told him I was out of town because my sister had her baby (which is true) but he could come over when I got back. I was afraid if I told him no straight up that he'd send the video.

I DID NOT KNOW HE WAS 17. I NEVER would have slept with him. I have screenshots of his Tinder profile where his age is clearly listed as 19. I don't have a Facebook so we were never friends on there but I do have his Insta and SC and nothing on those indicates he's 17. I keep thinking back over all of our interactions but even in text messages he doesn't say anything to indicate he was in high school. He told me he went to a local community college, he talks about college classes and getting off of his job at HEB. Anyway it's not like we had long conversations; our relationship consisted of having sex and maybe getting dinner beforehand.

Please help me. I've been freaking out about this for several hours. I work with kids right now and I'm in school to be a school social worker, I can't have this on my record. I know I should probably go to the cops but how can I do that and make sure nothing comes out of this???

My wife is pregnant and due in 5 weeks and I was refused leave to quarantine in order to keep her from getting exposed to COVID-19. Under the new EFMLEA that went into effect on 02/04 it seems I may be qualified to take FMLA leave. How can I be sure and how do I even get them to give me it? [Kansas]

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:45 AM PDT

I requested non discretionary leave but they refused. I also cannot afford to take unpaid leave for this amount of time because I would lose health coverage. I read briefly about the expansion to FMLA but I'm no legal expert. I don't even know what kind of lawyer I need to contact to even get started getting help with this and every day that goes on I am putting my wife at risk to birth complications if I contract the virus and give it to her. Not to mention I am also asthmatic and somewhat worried about my own issues I may have if I get it. I'm very anxious about this whole situation and I don't know what to do.

Ex coworker wants a restraining order against me

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:01 AM PDT

My coworker (18 m) got fired for sexually harassing me and got really angry and started screaming and throwing stuff at me. He got arrested and I was in the middle of getting a final restraining order until the courts closed because of the virus. He now wants to file a restraining order against me based on false allegations and will have his friend/lover/??? as a witness. Is there anyway I can stop this? I have messages of him asking others for my address so that he can send people to my house to do god knows what to me.

[NYC] My roommates said the landlord will bring a letter of eviction to evict me because I’m healthcare worker and pose a danger to all tenants. Is this legal?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:56 AM PDT

My roommates, who have threatened to evict me because I'm a healthcare worker, said that because I'm not quarantining with them, they have asked the landlord to evict me because I pose a danger to everyone. They said the landlord has told them he will bring a letter of eviction from the real estate office. I have offered many ways to compromise such as living in cheap hotels (but still too expensive for my current salary) if they help me with some of the costs. They flat out refused. Is this legal? My name is on the lease, and it expires in August.

I'm a carpenter, walked out on a client because he's racist and sexist, now he wants to sue.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:08 AM PDT

I'm a carpenter. I was building a deck at a client's house with my employee but we have a problem. Basically the client is being hostile to my employee because she's an African-American woman. He has made racists and sexist remarks, implying she's lazy because she's African-American, she isn't skilled enough to do the work properly and so on. This is not true at all, she is hard-working, skilled and a pleasure to work with. He has made inappropriate comments about her being "hot" and asking if she's my mistress and winking and things like that. We had enough of this so we told him we won't be finishing the job at his place and he can find someone else (I was calm and polite), then we left. He has paid for the materials, which we have delivered at his place and left there. He hasn't paid a cent for the job. Now there's a large hole in his garden as the deck we were building is not finished. There are heavy wooden beams stacked in his driveway so he can't use it. He called me in a rage and said I breached our contract and he would sue me for everything I have and he would destroy my reputation. I'm inclined to believe him, he seems the kind to do it. He also accuses me of blocking his driveway on purpose, and he wants me to go back and move the beams. I must admit I was a bit pissed so I might indeed have dropped the beams on the driveway on purpose. The job is not finished and I don't think I will ask for payment for the part of the work that was done, I don't want to see any more of him. If I don't make him pay, does he have grounds to sue me? The job isn't finished, but it has cost him nothing except the materials, which he has at his place, and any other carpenter can take it from here. Also, should I go back and move the beams?

Nurses being mandated over legal limit of work hours

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:45 AM PDT

This is in Detroit, MI at a large hospital. Night shift refused to walk on to the floor tonight as there was only 5 nurses for 100 plus patients, (many people quit all at once last week). Management told them to leave the property if they would not work, which of course they did. This left day shift nurses to be mandated to stay, however we are only legally allowed to work 16 hours before a break of 8. But nurses also cannot leave without relief as this is patient abandonment. Which can lead to a loss of licensure.

So on paper this is illegal to stay but can action be taken against nurses if they just go home? There is currently no feasible option for relief in terms of staffing. I have friends still working here and they are at hour 18. What can be done?

(NV) I think HR may be retaliating against me for not joining her MLM

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:52 AM PDT

I work for a large company and have used intermittent FMLA for about 6 years now for a lifelong disease. Several months ago I passed the HR assistant on my way in the building and she complimented my complexion, I thanked her and didn't think much of it as she is of a nationality that for some reason loves to point out my pasty ass. We got on the topic of skincare and she ended up pitching a company I immediately recognized as a big skincare MLM. I awkwardly told her i wasn't interested, my skin is honestly really sensitive and I'm pretty happy with my minimal routine. It wasn't a fun conversation but I thought that was the end of it.

About a month ago I was called into her office with my supervisor and she had him call in a union representative. I'm pretty panicked but she told me not to worry, I wasn't in trouble. Once the union representative arrived to the office she told me she noticed a pattern with my FMLA usage and she wanted me to explain it.

One of her complaints was that x% of the days I had taken were on Tuesdays and Saturdays (my day off?) near the end of the month. She also pointed out that on x% of the days I took, another associate used FMLA. I'm not exactly sure what she was trying to get at, but this led to me having to explain my condition, which is aggravated by my cycle, in front of her and my male supervisor and male coworker. It was really embarrassing.

    (Edited, accidentally hit post)

The company's FMLA is handled through a third party company and they've always sent approval letters for every single hour I've taken. I signed up for FMLA at the advice of her predecessor, now her superior working in another location, and was left under the impression that I wouldn't have to explain my condition to management. Is it even legal for her to question me like that? I know I'm using my FMLA appropriately, but living in a right to work state has me worried that she may have me fired for some reason.

    (Edit 2)

A bit of googling has me wondering if my right to privacy/confidentiality was violated by her calling a union representative into the room without my request.

Neighbor likes to shoot guns. Bullets are hitting my mother's house. Police won't help because he's on his property when shooting. [South Carolina]

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 04:17 PM PDT

Hi everyone! Long time reader, first time kvetcher. I always wondered when something would happen in my personal life to get me to post here.

So I don't have the talent in MS Paint that some other posters do, but the setup is pretty simple. My mother lives in a home in a planned housing development and her home is on a row on the exterior of the overall property being developed. Behind her is a large drainage which is probably 200-300' wide or so.

Six months ago my mom moved into a new house and it's been pretty nice. However, in the last few weeks she's been hearing sounds from the woods across the drainage behind her house. She asked the neighbors about the sounds and they told her that it was a neighbor living over that way who likes to shoot wild pigs, rabbits, squirrels and other assorted varmints. Apparently they've all gotten used to this.

For the last month my mom tells me she occasionally hears something hit her house but could never figure out what. One night last week she's on her back porch eating dinner when she hears asshole neighbor shooting and then hears the "thing hitting her house" sound after which a small piece of metal lands on her table. She takes it to friendly neighbor (next-door) later who tells her it's a 22 caliber bullet.

After soliciting everyone in the world for advice she calls the police. A police officer arrives, asks her some questions, and then at the end tells her that she probably won't like what he's going to tell her, but since asshole neighbor is shooting guns on his own property he's legally in the clear. Police officer leaves and my mom talks to the growing crowd of friendly neighbors around her house wondering what's going on. She talks about it and they confirm her story. Apparently the police have been getting complaints for years about bullets hitting homes and never do anything because multiple neighbors have had the same thing happen before.

I really can't believe that my mother doesn't have any recourse here. She hasn't been hurt or injured but why would we wait for that to happen? She lives in a neighborhood with lots of young families as well.

Here's the challenge: my mom loves to solicit advice but is terrible at following it. Afer the bullet incident she called about seven different people (not including me, for some reason) asking them what she should do. Every single person suggested she should call the police. She did call them after all other seven people told her to, although it's probably just because she ran out of other people to call and not because she thought the advice she'd gotten was sound. I really need to know what I can do on her behalf because if I tell her to do something it's probably not going to happen unless it's what she would have done anyway.

    Update 1:

Apparently when she called the police they told her to call the Sheriff. Which she did, and apparently the person sent was a Deputy. She still has his business card. When he left the gaggle of neighbors was already congregating and asking questions (again, this is apparently an ongoing issue) and he said said that there will be an investigation and it'll take some time. I'm wondering if that's code for there won't be an investigation and I'm hoping you forget about this and stop calling. Either way she's going to wait and see if anything happens. I told her to give it a week then call the Sheriff's Office back to see if there have been any updates.

Disrespectful neighbor leaving lots of junk on my property and hitting golf balls at random.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:41 AM PDT

This is my very first actual post, so please forgive any mistakes on formatting.

A little back story: My wife and I have a small bit of land outside of the state capitol city, several acres that are a mix of fields and wooded areas. So because of this I had a tractor, brush cutter, and various other farm type implements. To make a long story short I started having golf balls whizz by my head because of getting caught in moving machinery. I also started noticing golf balls in various places around my property, along my pond, over the hill on my property, next to my house, my neighbors houses and front and back yards, you get the idea. I spoke with the police chief in my small town about finding them around my yard, and laying right next to a brand new tractor we purchased to maintain our land. And unfortunately, that chief has since retired.

Thursday, I saw the neighbor in question out in my field and as soon as he saw me, he scurried away which made me really suspicious of what he was doing down there. He saw that I saw him and ran into his house when I approached that area. I have been keeping an eye on this neighbor anyway wanting to tell him to remove his junk and trash from my property. Friday, I'm doing a trip around the property with my wife and toddler and come across, in the same area I saw the guy in, a bucket of golf balls of the same type I have been finding across my property. BINGO!

I was beyond irate to say the least. I sat on it all weekend and talked with a deputy sheriff Sunday. I know with how angry I am about the situation, I'm going to have as little contact with this guy as possible. The deputy advised me to write a letter to him and send it, as well as make sure no trespassing signs are everywhere so there is no question about the property line. Also, about the junk he left on my property, if it was intentionally left there and is over a certain weight (like 10 lbs) that it a felony.

    Is this true?

    What law is this?

Any additional help would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Signed a lease with the promise of them fixing things, but now they won't because of "the state of emergency" they say that they can't. Our front door won't close all of the way even when dead bolted and its not a great neighborhood.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:38 AM PDT

There's a few things wrong with the apartment but we just want the door fixed so we can feel safe. I can fit my fingers in the crack in the door when its deadbolted. It looks like someone pried the door open and instead of fixing it they nailed the door back together and left it. It's not even weather proof because of the huge crack.

(Texas) My employer removed me from the schedule, but I'm still technically employed.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:06 AM PDT

I work for a popular fast food chain. The past two weeks my gm decided to completely take away my hours (I've talked to my manager and he said several people have no hours at all and many have very few.) Despite the fact that our drive through is open and we are still making a decent amount of money, about $5000 less per day than before Covid-19, ehich means the owner is still making a nice profit. they have cut a ton of hours and we basically have a ghost crew all day. They really are screwing over their team members, including myself. I still need an income and this doesn't work well for me. So I need to be able to file for unemployment until I find a job that will actually let me work.

so my question is what is the best course of action? I was thinking of talking to my gm to see if she would just let me go so I can file unemployment. I have no clue if I'm getting a stimulus check or not. I also have heard that businesses who are still paying their employees may get stimulus help, but my store is not doing that. (I would like to add that my gm still gives herself 55 hours per week.) is there a way to report them so they dont get help while they screw over their employees?

Credit score destroyed by $126 debt to Comcast because previous tenant transferred his account to me without my permission/knowledge. Please help.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:53 AM PDT

I moved into my apartment January 2019 and had a rough plan with the previous tenant to transfer his account to me so I could continue using his wifi and he wouldn't have to pay cancelation fee. After months of not receiving and word or documentation from Comcast I finally gave up and got Starry Internet. A few months later I started receiving bills from Comcast with my name on them. I gave them a call and they told me the account had been transferred to me and that I would have to pay the cancellation fee of $126. I told them I had not received any paperwork and never consented to taking the account from him. They told me over the phone that they had a signed and notarized form from me and when I asked for them to send it to me because I didn't believe them, they said they didn't have access to open it. They recommended I go to a store to get it sorted out.

As instructed, I went to a store and they told me they also saw that this document existed but that they too did not have access to open it. They said I could do one of two things: I could sue Comcast (I have no idea how to do that, nor the funds) or I could ignore the debt because they don't have my SSN so they couldn't touch my credit score. I chose the latter for obvious reasons. I then started receiving letters from a debt collector and when I called them, they told me I could dispute it if I had documentation which I don't because Comcast refuses to show me the form that I supposedly signed and got notarized. My credit score has now dropped 100 points and I called the debt collector and they said even if I pay it, it will not help my credit score. I have no idea what to do, please help.

HCBM is trying to hire someone to murder me

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:49 AM PDT

    Location: Virginia, USA

Background: My husband and I have full custody of my stepson because we were able to prove that his biological mother was actively sabotaging his health (not giving him his medication, even before major surgery, not taking him to doctors, etc etc). She hs always been very high conflict and refuses to comply with court orders often.

I was approached by a mutual acquaintance of mine and warned that the biological mother was soliciting people to cut the breaks in mine and my husband's cars, or similar actions. She didn't even care if her son was in the car or not. This person is terrified of the BM. They are willing to testify but will not contact BM to get proof in writing/text as they feel that would raise suspicion.

What do I do? I'm afraid if i go to police, they'll call it hearsay and laugh because frankly it sounds ridiculous. What can I do? I'm afraid for my child and my family.

[Ca] Girlfriends ex-husband sent person to my house to 'intimidate' me.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:40 AM PDT

Current girlfriend is going through a divorce. She was a victim of domestic abuse / violence and was involved in a relocation program. He was awarded 1 hour a week visitations with child. - HE found out through child about me, my name, my city. (He interrogated child for info)

    .

Guy showed up to my house, to intimidate. Said slanderous things to me about girl, also said his "client" is asking me to stay away from the situation.

I have this thug on video recording saying basically, "Stay away" - also calling her things like "Bitch / whore" - and "She sleeps around with other dudes, she's back with her husband, etc etc."

Claimed he worked for a P.I. company (not true, he had a minor with him recording incident.)

Got his picture and license plate info. Police won't take a report because no threat was made.

What legal action is there, if any?

    ** UK ADVICE **

I'm 21 (so have saved for this for a long time) and I'm a nurse who's had to graduate early to help with the pandemic. This is the least of my worries in comparison but still a very big one none the less. I booked a holiday back in the beginning of january to 3 places in Italy for the 16th of April until the 22nd. The pendemic hadn't escalated at all when I booked and it was relatively a "look whats happening thousands of miles away from me" virus. Obviously I kept a close eye when I heard of cases escalating in Italy as 2 of the 3 places were Verona and Venice. Italy started locking down Lombardy and Venice then, so I got worried and hunted for advice. Booking dot com told me to phone back closer to the time and mostly what colleagues and the Internet said was the wait it out as emergency policies will come in to place. This is the beginning of March. Our airline company has since cancelled and refunded all our flights and I booked 2 property's to stay with Airbnb who refunded us straight away without any hassle. The issue lays with the 3rd property in Venice that I booked with Booking dot com. They are refusing to refund me my £184 and refusing to waiver the cancellation/no show fee of £174. The property states they are non refundable on the page (so I can understand but don't agree with why they won't refund me as it isn't my choice or fault that I can't go) but I didn't see a thing about a cancellation fee until after I booked it. And I didn't find out about a no show fee until I phoned to get advice and asked what happens if I don't cancel. I'm repeatedly told to "phone back in a week" or "we can't offer you any advice or solutions if the property says no". I've contacted the property through booking dot com a few times and both have been extremely unhelpful. Booking dot com essentially said there's nothing they can do as it's the properties choice and just to wait until there might be a change in policy. My view is that because it's a global pandemic and I'm legally not allowed to leave my country and legally not allowed to enter Italy, my flights have been cancelled by the airline company and they didn't show on the page about the cancellation or no show fee of £174 then how can nothing be done? My boyfriend has travel insurance in his name from last year that runs out April 15th and we are going to ask if we can claim the money back through that. Only problem is I booked the hotel through booking dot com under my name on behalf of him (who could have predicted a pandemic) but I can prove through bank statements he sent me money for his half of the booking and there are return flights booked under both his name and my name to and from the area. Is that enough proof? I have also cancelled my debit card under advice from my bank as it will make it harder for them to charge me a no show fee. Is there anything I can do? Can I claim any money back for government restrictions due to a pandemic or goods and services not provided after payment? I can't afford to lose this much money and I don't see how it's legal for booking dot com to do nothing or to stop them charging me when I legally am not allowed to leave or enter both our countries. I'm desperate for help.

Employer has reimbursed me twice for large expenses ($10k), I reported it, and they still haven't removed funds.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:36 AM PDT

I am currently doing an expat project where I was required to incur a large amount of expenses out of pocket upon initial move (~$10k). At the end of the month in which I moved, I requested reimbursement by submitting an expense report as I always do. I was reimbursed correctly.

Two months later, I received a reimbursement expense in the exact same amount as the first one. Upon getting the email from Accounts Payable, I immediately forwarded to Accounting/Finance to report the problem, as this was not my money. Everyone thanked me, identified it was set up incorrectly as a recurring payment, resolved the problem, and informed me I would be seeing the funds recalled from my account immediately.

That was 17 days ago. Since then, I have been correctly reimbursed for monthly expenses, so I'm certain that the AP department is still functioning. I have not received any notices from my bank about blocking the retraction.

EDIT - This is in Texas

My question is this: What is my legal obligation to continue fighting to return this money? I understand there could be employment repercussions, but can I also be pursued legally? If yes, how so?

Neighbors upstairs keep calling cops on my tenant

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:18 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I'm pretty desperate for some help right now. To give you some context, I'm a first time landlord to the basement condo in a DC rowhouse on a high foot and road traffic street, one condo on each level. The building is a renovation of an older building, and frankly the construction was pretty cheap. By that, I mean that noise travels very easily between the units. The building is also half a block away from a police station.

Currently, the owner of the unit above mine, let's call them U3, and I are the only ones renting out our places. A couple times last year, U3 called me to let me know that my tenants were being loud during quiet hours (assume this always happens during quiet hours), after which I told my tenants to keep it down, be more careful, etc. These complaints became more and more frequent, each time with me going back to my tenants with more vigor, until the point that U3's tenants started calling the police. My tenants are now sending me evidence that for all these complaints, they're watching TV at low level volumes. The TV is also right next to the front of the apartment, opposite end of the bedrooms. Each time the police arrive, my tenants ask if the police can hear any noise, to which the police just say 'that's not for us to tell.'

It has become clear now that U3's tenants are overly sensitive and trigger happy with the police. As it began escalating, U3 and I sent an email to both tenants to exchange info and communicate with each other if there are ever any issues. This including citing DC ordinances on legal quiet hours and decibel levels. Despite this attempt, U3's tenants have never once made an attempt to directly communicate with my tenants. I am convinced now that, maybe for a few cases where the TV may have been loud, they are harassing my tenants and this in no way constitutes a reason to call the police. The most recent time was when the TV was on volume 5/100.

I'm now faced with the scenario where my tenants want to move out, and frankly I can't blame them. If they do try, I will not penalize them for breaking contract (let's not even mention the fact that right now is a bad time to be looking for a place). I'm communicating with U3 as well and they acknowledge my tenants' frustration, but doesn't seem willing to tell his tenants to back down. I've mentioned multiple times that living in a rowhouse presents certain standards of living that are unavoidable, especially in a building of poor craftmanship.

Is there anything more I can do to stop U3's tenants from calling the police? I can't just tell my tenants to stop watching TV when it's already so low, as this would be a violation of their Quiet Enjoyment. I'm at an impasse here and don't know how to proceed, and willing to do anything.

I work at a chain grocery store in their kitchen. I have depression and anxiety that I am medicated for. At the beginning of February I had a panic attack and threw a container at a wall and began crying and had to go home, my manager telling me to go relax and come back in the next day and talk about it. I received a call later that day (left as a message) telling me to not come in for my next couple shifts. I called after a few days and was told that I would be suspended until corporate decided I could come back.

They scheduled a meeting, and after speaking with corporate, they wanted to contact my doctor to confirm my depression and anxiety. I met with my doctor, who decided he did not feel comfortable signing off on me and referred me to the office's psychologist, who could not meet with me for 3 weeks because it would be an intake appointment and he only did 1 a day. Corporate wouldn't allow me to come back to work even though I had the appointment.

After the whole Covid-19 thing, I had to meet with the psychologist via video meeting. He said that it was stupid that they didn't allow me to come back to work and he wrote a letter signing me off to return to work.

I gave the store the letter and they forwarded it to corporate. Another couple days go by and still I here nothing. I should note that this whole time I'm still on the schedule to work so every day they are getting shorted a worker. This whole time I keep dealing with the same store HR rep, who keeps telling me he is out of the loop and has no idea whats going on and that its up to corporate (got the same statement from him at least 4 times).

I try calling corporate HR and keep leaving messages because no one answers. Call my store manager and they send an email that results in corporate calling me and telling me that the letter answers all their questions but one and that they reached out to my doctor requesting the last question to be answered.

They also refuse to tell me what that question is.

My wife works at the same grocery store and has personally seen another employee (in the bakery) yelling and throwing things MULTIPLE TIMES and they did not get suspended, but rather just sent to the back to work freight. I've seen other kitchen workers get upset and storm out and come back to work less than a week later. We have a family of 4 we are trying to support and it is extremely tight on only my wife's income, and I have been out of work for 2 months now. I tried to file unemployment, but do not qualify.

I feel that they have just been stringing me along and have been a bit discriminatory seeing as this kind of thing has happened before with other people getting little to no disciplinary action.

Is there any actions I can/should take? Is there someone I should contact about it?

Landlord said we didn’t have to pay rent after tornado damage, now she’s saying we have to pay

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:43 AM PDT

    Arkansas - United States

With COVID-19 going on, my university went to full online classes. So, I moved out of my rent house and moved back home two hours away. My lease is from August 2019-July 2020 and is $400 per month. I moved out on March 22nd, and was fully intending on paying rent even though I was not living there.

However, a tornado hit the town on March 28th and luckily nobody was in the house. It took some damage but it was not destroyed. Me and my roommates got a text from our landlord on March 29th saying that the insurance said the house was unlivable and would be paying the rent of our rent in the lease (so they were going to pay April-August for me, $1,600 total). I talked with my dad and decided that since we had the money set aside, we would put it towards the rest of my tuition payment.

I got a text from my landlord today saying the opposite and that the house was livable and that insurance is no longer paying out rent. I think you can see where the issue is. That money I had set aside is no longer available.

Am I still responsible for paying the rest of that rent even after she said we didn't have to pay it?

Separated from a Dog Training company a year ago and they refuse to take me off their website and siphoning my business

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:14 AM PDT

Texas; Headline says it all- for ethical reasons I separated from a large, multi-state dog training company that hires independent contractor trainers to teach classes, private lessons, board and training etc. They pay a lot of money to be one of the first companies to show up on google and if you search my name and "dog training" my website isn't the first to show up (lots of word of mouth clients are lost to them as they say I'm busy and refer them to other trainers). A year after leaving them, my name and bio is still up on their site and I cannot get them to take it down. Email, phone calls, texts to the owner and admins..I just can't get it removed! What's my next move?

What should I do if I suspect my employer/supervisor of embezzlement?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:10 AM PDT

For context I work at a large dental practice as the admin department head (a recent promotion). As such, I have inherited a lot of issues regarding billing and patient AR to solve; there always seems to be a new fire to put out, so to speak. Our practice's CFO is the owning dentist's wife. She has all the mail (patient checks, insurance, etc) mailed to a P.O. Box, takes it home to sort it, and then brings it in to the office for my department to handle. She's extremely controlling and honestly if feels kind of secretive the way she handles the financial side of the business.

I've been getting a lot of calls recently of patients or insurance companies paying their bills. The checks either get "lost" or they actually say they are cashed, but there is often no record of it in the patient's ledger; or sometimes, the CFO will send in patient checks that are 1 to 2 months old! So I wonder if she is cashing the checks, taking the money, and then not putting it in the patient's ledger so they pay twice.

I don't have proof that she is embezzling, but I have decided to start tracking those discrepancies a little closer. What would constitute hard proof? And if I did find proof that she is embezzling, what would I need to do to take the necessary legal steps?

Someone spent $10K of my money at a club - now they want to pay me back after 2 years

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:09 AM PDT

    [Dallas, TX]

Hello - looking for advice on this situation here:

    Context:

    • 2018 - Got a table at a club with some "friends"
    • One of the guys at the table ordered about 5 bottles of Ace (about $1,500/ea)
    • End of night - I ended up having to pay the tab because the guy who ordered "didn't have his cards" on him.
      • He mentions that he'll pay me back.
      • I pay and we continue partying back at my friends house.
    • I'm concerned about getting paid back at this point.

    Aftermath:

    • Next morning I tell him that he's gotta pay me back (we're in person at this point)
    • He says he will - but I'm a bit sketched so I record our conversation in person.
    • Fast forward a couple hours and he calls me back - says that he "never ordered those bottles" and proceeds to hang up shortly after an argument
      • Never picks up again
    • I document our chats via text and video.

    Lawyer:

    • I save the texts and recordings of our conversations regarding the bill and inquire with a lawyer.
    • Lawyer indicates that $10K is small claims and might not be worth pursuing since the cost of the lawyer/legal fees will essentially cut my claim to about $2-3K.
      • I dont pursue anything although I did threaten legal action against him (pressure tactic)
        • no dice

    TODAY (4/6/2020):

    • I received a text from him today saying
      • "I figured out the misunderstanding. Let me pay you back. How much was it"

    Question:

    • What should I respond with? I could really use the cash - but I feel like it might be too good to be true.
      • Is there something I should know/be aware of before approaching this?

    Thank you for any advice!

[Connecticut] Can my employer legally forbid us from discussing our compensation?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:24 PM PDT

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this. I work for a pharmaceutical company and my supervisor recently held a meeting after our performance reviews, chastising us for knowing each other's rates of pay and threatening to write us up down the line. Is discussing compensation among co-workers considered a protected activity under the national labor relations act? Does it violate other state or federal labor laws? I'm ideally hoping to find the precise section of the precise law that protects this activity. Thanks again guys, much appreciated.

Can I get unemployment if I lost one of my two jobs?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:37 AM PDT

I have a full time job that I work at Monday - Friday. I supplemented my income by working a part time food service job on the weekends. I have been laid off from this part time job due to covid 19.

Can I file for unemployment benefits for my lost wages for this part time job, even though I still have a full time job? I was making about $700 a month at the part time job, so this has caused financial strain.
