    RV Insurance?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:28 AM PDT

Hello, I am considering buying a camper trailer for long term housing purposes. I have plans drawn for a nice paver pad and some other hardscaping on some land I own. Anyway, what effects would not being licensed to pull such a trailer have on my ability to ensure it? I have a Georgia class M (motorcycle) license, no private passenger.

Why do different types of insurance providers agree to pay different prices for the exact same service? (See specifc example )

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:26 PM PDT

So, this is in my Province in Alberta, Canada.

Im a Physiotherapist, and while I was in my short stint in private practice, this is a question I had that no one really seemed to know the answer too. These numbers are also probably a bit out of date*

The clinic I was at accepted a wide variety of types of insurances. There was your standard private extended health insurance, which we billed $75 per treatment.

Government covered treatments, which we billed 40 dollars for.

Workers Compensation, which was billed 40 dollars.

Motor Vehicle Accient insurance, which was billed up to $140 per treatment.

    Veterans Affairs, billed about 90.

Police had there own special insurance too.

Anyways, all of these different patients were treated all the exact same from a clinical perspective. My question is, why would one funding source agree to pay hugely different amounts for the exact same thing?

Homeowners Insurance sent Notice of Cancellation a month after move into home [Massachusetts]

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:31 PM PDT

Hi all. Trying to figure this all out. Last month I moved into a home as a first time home buyer and we are super excited. Our insurance is through a large insurance company but unwritten by another company.

Today we received a Notice of Cancellation of our homeowners insurance with an effective date of 5/16/2020. It stated that our roof has organic material growing in it with patched shingles and the home was actually under insured by $15,000.

They also sent an e-mail saying that if we could get it worked on by 5/16 with an invoice from a general contractor with color photos of the roof repairs then the policy will remain in effect.

I called the insurance agent today and asked for an extension. I don't see how 20 days is enough time in a rainy Massachusetts April to get a GC out here and then get a new roof on. (we planned on getting a completely new roof sooner rather than later but this all happened at once). The agent told me the underwriters denied an extension after a very short conversation. No consideration to the pandemic seemed to be given.

Can the underwriters do a third party inspection unbeknownst to us and conclude we are under insured even though the Insurance Agent Company was supposed to due their due diligence prior to house closing and a policy was issued? How can a company all of a sudden clear us to close on a house and then a month later say we are under insured?

Any advice would be appreciated. It is all foreign to me.

How Can I Have Privacy While Using My Parent's Insurance (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama)

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:44 PM PDT

I will be getting an operation for gender dysphoria and my parents do not approve. I will be using their insurance for the operation and am currently going through therapy to get the letters for the operation. I thought I could go paperless so that all excess bills would be sent to just me but it seems that isn't an option as when I went into my profile it said,

" Only the contract subscriber can change the claim statement delivery method. Please have the primary contract holder login to change this option. "

Does this mean all statements from the insurance company HAVE to be sent to the house? Unless they say so. What can I do?

    Building may be demolished

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:03 PM PDT

    Hey all,

First post here and had a question based on some discussions I had with developers. One had an issue getting a recent purchase insured because he planned on demolishing it. (Which is understandable). Another was discussing a prospective purchase that he too was going to demolish in order to build new buildings. The lender for the building requires insurance - demolition wouldn't happen for 2 years. How do you insure it? Can you? FWIW it is in California.

Being sued after settlement in my favor

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:06 PM PDT

I was in car accident with my then 14 yo daughter almost 2 years ago. A 250 pickup with a grill / cage thing ran red light and T boned us. A year and a half later I received a settlement. Still waiting on partial for my daughter. We were just served papers while quarantined at home. I'm being sued by this guy and his insurance for his injuries because of uninsured/ underinsured motorist. I have a different insurance company now. My car was totaled. I spent my settlement on used car, rent and bills. I am so outraged that I am even going through this! My attorney used a witness 911 call, timing of airbags and light to prove he was at fault. How can he sue me when he was at fault? I just cant comprehend how this has happened. I thought it was over when I signed the papers for the check. I've tried googling for answers but cant find anything with my situation not at fault. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm about to meet my deductible for the year. Do I pay at the doctors office for visits or ask them to bill me later?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:19 PM PDT

I'm about $200 from meeting my deductible for the year due to some recent non covid related health issues. This is the first time in my life I've ever met the deductible for the year. Once met, my insurer will cover 80% and I'm responsible for the 20%. How does this work with copays? If a doctor's visit is $60, do I only pay $12 now? If a CT scan was $200, do I only pay $40 now? Will my doctor's office know I met the deductible? Do I ask to be billed later?

    Car accident question

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:13 PM PDT

I was just hoping for some guidance with my situation. What happened is I was rear ended in a parking lot earlier today. After the lady hit me, we both got out of the car, I took a picture of her license plate and her insurance and the damage to my car and told her I would be filing a claim with her insurance. There were witnesses although I did not get any info from them, and I also did not call the police as it was just damage to my car and I felt physically okay. It is now evening, and my back is killing me. I called her insurance company earlier today and told them the situation and gave them my and her info. I told them I did not file a police report, that she was at fault, that I had witnesses although no info to provide, and that I felt physically okay at the time. I was told I would be in contact with a claims adjuster tomorrow. Now that I am feeling quite a bit of physical pain, what should I do? The reason I was hesitant to call the police after the accident is that I was rear ended on the freeway a couple years back and it gave me chronic back pain. I didn't want to go through that whole process again. This event seemed to especially flare up my back pain. I don't really know how to proceed from here, as it's an existing condition and I don't have health insurance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I am located in Florida

    Career paths for claims adjusters

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:18 PM PDT

What are possible career paths for adjusters outside of the claims world?

I'm a new adjuster ( about 4 months) in a multi lines adjusting position. I've been learning a ton but the pandemic has put a damper on things.

My company cut my training short and has kind of just throw me into the thick of things. During training I was handling deer hits and clear liability auto losses.

Now I'm handling BI and fire losses that I haven't had training on.

I can't fault my supervisor too much because it's an unfortunate time. Yet it's been very difficult to not be able to go into the office and sit to go through claims and more training.

I'm doing my best and my supervisor has indicated I'm doing well, but I'm slowly realizing I don't want to stay in claims forever.

My company is also increasing the push towards more and more remote handling of claims and I don't think field adjusters will be relevant 15 years from now.

What would be career paths to look into outside of claims? I have good communication skills, pick up theoretical concepts quickly(the application of insurance is really interesting to me), and I enjoy the "field" work part of claims adjusting. I'm still young at 24 and can pivot towards new careers. But think I need to make these steps sooner rather than later.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Will my insurance drop me?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 08:19 AM PDT

Totaled my car a couple of months and this weekend got into a fender bender, both my fault.

I just got an estimate from a body shop and am looking at least $2500-3000 to fix.

If I file a claim, which I financially really need to do, how likely do you think it is I wont get renewed through my insurance? I have GEICO.

Landlord requiring renters insurance renewal. Bank says its too early to renew insurance.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:02 PM PDT

My leasing office needs proof of renewed insurance to re-sign my lease for the upcoming year. But my bank says they can not renew my insurance coverage dates until the current one expires 1 month from now.

Not sure my options here for resolving this stalemate. I even asked my bank if I could just start a new insurance policy, which they would not do. Right now the only option I can see is starting a new policy under a new insurance company, which doesn't seem right.

Purchased Gap Insurance for 5 year financing of a used vehicle from my credit union and paid it off in 1 year. Being told I cannot be issued partial refund for the unused premium.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 10:38 AM PDT

Hello I live in Southern California and recently paid my car off early by 4 years of the loan that I signed. I purchased GAP insurance through my credit union.

I had the presumption I get any unused part of my GAP insurance premium if the car is paid off early. (Granted it's not a lot of money but during these times anything helps!)

So is it a universal thing where a refund is given or do I need to ask them for a pdf of the contract I signed.

Thanks and have a good day!

Diminished Value Claim Denied bc 2016 model Lexus should I hire a lawyer?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:14 PM PDT

My car was hit while parked and obliterated. This was not a small dent the bumper was torn apart and off the car, a head light was replaced, the grill was replaced, and the side of the car was damaged. I have no idea how someone did that much damage to an unmoving car. Total repairs were $7k which their insurance covered. The car is a 2016 IS 300 Lexus with no prior crash history, 55k miles, fsport awd model. I hired an appraiser who said the car is now worth $2400 less. Insurance keeps offering $500 and providing no explanation other than that they don't pay for DV on cars older than 2 years. The appraiser suggests I hire a lawyer. I can't decide if I think hiring a lawyer would work or if I don't have a good case, what would you do if you were me? I live in TX if that impacts your opinion.

Hit and Run on my Parked Car. Where do I file a claim?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:37 PM PDT

So on Friday a supposedly drunk driver smashed into the side/back of a parked car on the side of the street, which was then pushed into my parked car. Witnesses were able to get the license plate of the guy, and subsequently gave it to the cops. They have confirmed he does have insurance... So I was basically hit by another parked car but the person clearly at fault is the drunk driver. However, since I have taken the time to thoroughly examine the car, I do believe the drunk driver at least partially struck my car as well. I am worried the crash report will say I was only hit by the other parked car though.Does that even matter? Do I need to get that changed?

Anyway. I have been receiving mixed responses on where to go from here. Do I...

    1) File a claim on my own insurance - Let them handle the case and getting reimbursed by the other insurance companies of the people at fault. However I am worried this will increase my rates despite the fact that I wasn't even in the car when it happened.

    2) File a claim on the car that technically hit mine - Let them handle trying to get reimbursed by the drunk driver's insurance. Multiple people have told me to do this, but why would I file a claim on someone else who is clearly not at fault?

    3) File a claim on the drunk driver's insurance - Mainly worried that he won't have the limits to cover both cars. Also, if the crash report doesn't explicitly say that he hit my car, will that effect him being at fault?

I'm not in a hurry to get paid out for this ASAP, as I have another car to use in the meantime. Obviously the quicker the better, as I want to get back to having my car back. My main priority is to make sure this doesn't effect my current insurance rates and to get completely reimbursed for the damages.

    Home Insurance Premium Seems High

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 04:15 PM PDT

    Hello,

I feel that our home insurance premium is high. We pay $1,667 / year through USAA. We got a quote from Country and it was still high in our estimation ($1,280/year).

We've never had a claim, we bundle auto. We have a 2,900 sqft house built in 1922. Seismically retrofitted. We're covered at the below:

    Deductible: 2,000

    Dwelling: 597,000

    Belongings: 298,500

    Other structure: 59,700

    Personal liability: 300,000

    Medical payments to others: 5,000

Am I off base? Can anyone give some insight? We live in southern Oregon but USAA says our wildfire risk is low (we're right in the middle of a city).

Looking for travel insurance whily travelling with Covid-19 coverage.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:16 PM PDT

    Hi Reddit,

I have traveled to south america a few months ago and currently staying with friends. I have a travel insurance which runs out in a few weeks and my flight has been rescheduled for 1-2 months with uncertainty. I wanted to prolong the contract but the company said thats not possible. So right now I'm looking for a travel insurance for about 2 months that allows to book while already being abroad and covers Covid-19 treatments. I have searched the internet and and the ones i found do not cover Covid-19: Safetywing, World nomads and True traveller insurance.

Does such thing exist?Any tipps or recommendations are very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Edit: I am from Germany and I am staying in Ecuador currently.

Homeowners insurance quote ineligible and eligible between two different agents of the same company.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 08:02 AM PDT

Finding homeowners insurance has been a literal nightmare. It's been consuming every moment of my unworking days for a week. I can't seem to get any information, agents don't seem to have any of their facts straight, and no one I know has any information on what even insurance they have. This has all been a back and forth between people telling me to "look it up" and ask someone and getting nowhere or looping around. I finally found a quote I like that one agent has been trying to push on me, so I showed it to another agent and he says I dont qualify and is telling me to get another insurance. I don't know what to do and I'm at a total loss, no matter where I go with this whole thing it always revolves around to where I began.

Everything else involved in getting a house was rough, but it was, atleast, doable, this is an actual nightmare and it's literally putting a halt on this whole process. If I can't find insurance by wednesday everything I've done is a waste and I don't know what to do.

Nothing I do is working and everything anyone tells me is wrong.

Edit: I've spoken with 5 agents, including an agent suggest by my lender and one suggested by my realtor. All given me different information and, often, contradicting the others. I don't know who to trust or what to do.

    Westwood Insurance?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 11:33 AM PDT

My fiancée and I just bought a new-construction home and are shopping for insurance. Our mortgage company, NVR, has sent us a quote for homeowners insurance from a company called Westwood Insurance Agency. They quoted us a $586 annual premium. I have USAA for auto and my current renter policy and they quoted us $964 for very similar coverage. I then got a quote from Geico for $1217. Surely, there must be some kind of error here. Is Westwood a poor insurance company? Or is this a good deal?

    Edit: location is North Carolina.

    Teacher discounts in Ohio?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:19 PM PDT

We (middled aged couple, no tickets or points in a decade or more) were happy with Cali Casualty on the east coast, good pricing, we haven't had a claim in 14 years. We got a discount because I am a teacher (now teaching from home), and my wife does non-profit healthcare work (no clients coming or going, she calls places and does tons of paperwork and meetings online with researchers and docs) from home. Cali Casualty for some reason was not very cost effective for our new house.

We moved to Ohio last year, got Allstate and I see they gave me a whopping $13 back for staying home over a month and not driving. Anybody know of any companies that write policies in Ohio with teacher discounts? Looking for home and auto (two leased crossovers with very low mileage)..any suggestions?
