Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:30 PM PDT Hey everyone. I currently work at AIG as a financial lines underwriter and got an offer for the same position at Chubb. Will be on the east coast. Any thoughts or advice on if I should take it? Money rounds out to about the same so just looking for high level advice regarding the companies. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Advice for young Canadian considering a career in insurance. Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:28 PM PDT Hello. 21 years old, high school diploma, working full time in security and in the process of applying to become a police officer. I would like a back up plan as that is not a guaranteed position, and I am looking at insurance as a career. Initially I was interested in working as a claims adjuster, but also considering under writing too. I would like some recommendations on how to get started in this field. I am willing to go to school if there's a guaranteed job on the other side of it, I have looked at Insurance and Risk Management diplomas from MacEwan Uni and BCIT. These give you 8/10 courses towards your CIP. Any recommendations on how to get started? I'd appreciate it too if you shared your story on how you got into the biz, and if you'd recommend it to a young man as well. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:08 PM PDT A couple of weeks ago our car was stolen from the drive way by a couple of teen kids, they wrecked it into a tree and completely totaled it. Today our insurance company called to let us know they would be paying each kid's family $10,000 (our amount of liability coverage) to prevent them from suing us. Is this pretty standard? I don't want to sound heartless, but we're concerned this will make them decide to pursue litigation in hopes of getting more money. We are located in Florida Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 06:58 PM PDT Am in Florida. Anyone here have experience with a company called Priority Life? They've paid for my training to get my license to sell Life Insurance I just have have to pay for the TESTING and background check. I have to pay for the leads which from reading seems like a normal thing just about anywhere. It's a 100% commission based job. If I write a policy i get 75% of the AP upfront and if the client stays for 12months I will get the extra 25%. HOWEVER if they cancel in a week from signing and I've already spent the 75% commission, I have to pay the 75% back. This is my first time in the insurance world. I'm in their Private FB group and people posting DAILY about the thousands they're making and pictures of them with successful clients and then there's me like o_o I'm reading the material still guys! Haha [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 06:25 PM PDT I'm located in Oregon, USA. My vehicle was in a parked hit & run, not a HUGE amount of damage but I made the claim report to GEICO. They decided it was a not at fault collision claim. The damage estimate that they gave me was for a little bit over $1000. I'm currently financing my car. How do I have Geico send me the check and then I can figure out repairs instead of them just sending it to an auto body shop directly?? [link] [comments] |
United Healthcare 6 month deductible Posted: 08 Apr 2020 06:10 PM PDT So, a coworker just pointed out, our open enrollment just happened, and our new plan starts in June. Then our deductible resets January. So effectively our deductibles only last 7 months, then 5 months. Is this really how it works? I'm in Phoenix AZ. [link] [comments] |
Can an argument be made for whole life insurance given the current climate? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 05:43 PM PDT I am 29, female, no children. I currently have NWM for a Roth IRA and term life insurance in NY. My rep has asked me if I am interested in converting my term life insurance into a whole life insurance policy. I told him my reservations and he said that his clients are currently experiencing a 25% decline in their investments and wish they had taken seriously the cash value option. He spoke about the importance of having investments that are not tied to the market. I'm still planning on saying no. But, I wanted to hear from you all if you think people are regretting not having a cash value/whole life policy given the current climate. [link] [comments] |
GAP Insurance Wont Pat Off Remaining Amount Posted: 08 Apr 2020 05:39 PM PDT |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 05:19 PM PDT I have Liability, so i got in an accident awhile ago and it was 60% my fault for the accident. Their insurance is only willing to pay 40% of my damage. They figured out the total damage of the car is more then the total cost of car so they want to total the car. The issue here is they want to total my car, have me buy it back for the salvage price and give me 40% of whats left over. I don't want to do that, i could fix the car myself and not deal with having a salvage title. I was wondering if anybody had any incite on what i could do or how i get some money to repair my car? Best way to write an appeal for a noncovered provider? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 05:14 PM PDT |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:21 PM PDT I am buying a home in NORTH CAROLINA that has a history of a roof leak and some other roof concerns. One being some hail damage. I had a roofer go check out the roof and he believes the best bet is to have the sellers claim it under insurance as the roof was previously installed incorrectly and there's no flashing installed. My real estate agent told me "if they claim it under their insurance, your insurance premium for home insurance will go up" Is this true? Why would my premium be affected by someone else's claim? Thanks so much in advance! Edit: added state of NC [link] [comments] |
Moving forward with insurance claim? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:30 PM PDT So my 2010 Base Vibe with 76,323 miles was street parked, and was plowed into and towed away while I was asleep. I got in contact with the police, and they said they believed the liable party had Progressive too, but to check for the police report once it was posted on their site. Since I figured I'd be dealing with Progressive regardless, I started a claim with them under my full coverage, thinking I could have them check out the vehicle, and once we had the liable party's info move the claim to be against their policy. Progressive checked out the vehicle and gave me their valuation, which I felt was not fair, and so far I've got them to up to $4,554.66 + tax and title. If I used my full coverage, there would be a $100 deductible, but I also know my insurance might go up too. Today I finally received the police report, and it looks to have gotten more complicated. Allstate is the liable party's insurance... I'm not really sure what to do at this point with this new info, as it seems I have three options: Take what Progressive is offering under my full coverage, but pay a deductible and potentially get hit with a rate increase. Continue to negotiate with Progressive, and once we reach a satisfactory amount, mail the bill to Allstate with Progressive's valuation. Send the vehicle to Allstate and have them provide their own valuation and see if they come up with a bigger number than Progressive. If I were to do the third option, and Allstate provides a smaller valuation than Progressive, can I simply have Progressive demand the original valuation? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Rear ended at a red light, don't know what to do, picture in description. Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:18 AM PDT Hey reddit, I got rear ended in my Dodge Ram at a red light in Scottsdale, AZ by a Chevy Tahoe going about 45 mph. Here's a link to the aftermath picture ( https://imgur.com/a/FU574Tn ) It spun my truck around 180 degrees and both vehicles appear totaled. My pregnant wife was in the vehicle and we seem to be mostly fine physically, but mentally we are pretty shook up and a little afraid to drive now. The other party is completely at fault and there insurance company is progressive. My wife was treated at a nearby hospital to check on our unborn baby, but she has not been seen for herself yet. She is still pretty sore today and the accident was on 4/5/2020 I was treated at a local ER and got 2 CT scans to make sure my spine was okay. It is, and I feel okay in general but a little sore, I feel as though i made a mistake because the slick Progressive guy got me to sign a medical release on Monday, 4/6 for $10,000 towards my medical expenses and $1800 for my time/suffering/missed wages. My wife and baby are my priority, but that truck meant a lot to me too and I had about $25,000 invested into it, though it only blue books for around $7k. I feel like a victim in all this and just want to make sure I don't get screwed medically, or by not getting a good replacement vehicle. I really need to know what I can do to have this work out the best for me and my family. Please help me figure this out, and thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Auto Total Loss Claim - Georgia State Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:49 PM PDT I am in contact with a third party insurance (since we were not at fault in this incident) who has deemed our rear ended 2015 Honda CR-V EX with 69,150 miles as a total loss. She has already sent me the CCC One valuation report that details how they determined a reimbursement total of $13,769. I am hoping to get some external clarification on questions I have since asked her regarding this document. The first question I asked her was in regards to how much the settlement would be if I retained the vehicle. I have read quite a few total loss related threads, and most people seem to suggest this is usually a bad idea financially, unless the car is unique in some way. My purpose of this question was to get an idea of what they valued the car at in its current condition. She told me the settlement would be reduced to $8,061. That means they value the car at $13769 - $8061 = $5708. The engine and transmission in this car is basically untouched in regards to the accident, so its still in good sell-able condition. I was hoping they were just planning on scrapping it for junk metal, and I know its worth more than that in it's current state. In the CCC One report, there is this section that outlines vehicle condition. I tried to make the claim that value should be added here in regards to both the condition of the engine, and the condition of the tires. I have documentation for every oil change and all manufacturer required maintenance, all done at the dealership. I have a receipt for brand new tires that were put on the car at 56,200 miles. Are these things that should add value to the car? She is claiming, "Regular maintenance does not add value to a vehicle." In regards to the tires, she is claiming "They were rated as average based on the tread", but this insurance company is not local to me (they are based out of another state), and I don't see how they could have seen the tread ever. The car has been in my garage and then the body collision shop this entire time, even when she created the valuation report. I asked her to confirm whether or not this settlement amount should include the cost of tags, taxes and title for a replacement car. She told me those fees are not owed under Third Party Claims. Is this true? I then tried to make the claim that the two comparable vehicles listed in the CCC One valuation report were under valued. I linked her three other vehicles with identical year/model/make/trim, similar miles, and within a 200 mile distance from me. All of these vehicles listed price are at least $3000 more than the two comparable vehicles in the valuation report. She then asked me to clarify that I wanted these vehicles to be considered and stated the following, "If this is the case, in order to have them reviewed, you must have them opened and/or attached under pdf form." Does this simply mean she needs the contents of the URL saved as a PDF and attached? Just seems odd that would be the case, but whatever. On a side note, the two comparable vehicles listed in the CCC One valuation report were strange. They were both within a 15 mile distance from me, from the same dealership. They were both listed as nearly identical in the CCC One valuation report. See here and here. The odd thing is that 'Comp 2' has half the mileage as 'Comp 1', yet they are listed for basically the same price ($1 difference). So clearly 'Comp 2' is favorable towards them, which is pretty bogus in my opinion. I stated that to her, but she ignored it. Hopefully you made it this far in reading all of that. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Looking for E&O insurance as a freelance writer, not having any luck Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:13 PM PDT Long story short, I write a lot of content for the health/supplement industry. While i never make direct claims and always provide disclaimers, id like to procure some sort of professional liability insurance for peace of mind. The "bigger" companies that ive researched dont seem to offer this coverage for content writers. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? I reside in Upstate New York, although i work with companies from all over. I am a sole proprietor. [link] [comments] |
How do I determine what the replacement cost should be? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 11:57 AM PDT I am buying a half-duplex in central Florida for $185K. I currently have three homeowners insurance quotes and the replacement cost varies a lot. The values I got were $250k, $209K and 151K. How do I know what I am supposed to have? That is a huge difference in value. [link] [comments] |
Driving after experiencing a traumatic event, is that considered careless driving? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:10 AM PDT I was involved in an accident and it was set at 50/50. Both sides have good argument, but my adjuster said If I pushed further and if they argue I drove under being in distress, then likely won't win. This would be in Canada and from my understanding, driving laws regarding careless driving is generally quite the same in all the provinces. Overall, being set at 50/50 is essentially the same as being rated at 100% fault for underwriting. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:06 AM PDT (Atlanta Ga/ United States) I was sent an estimate from my oral surgeon that stated that I would need to pay $800 before my surgery. The estimate calculated how much I owed and how my insurance would pay (I have Tricare reserve select) Per the company policy I paid the full 800 one week prior to my surgery. I had my surgery two months ago and now I'm getting another bill saying I owe $900, I asked why I was being billed when I already paid and they responded 'Per the EOB we received from your insurance, you were not eligible at the time of surgery.' Why would they wait to AFTER my surgery to tell my I'm not eligible? Is this the surgeons offices fault or my insurance? If I had known that the total would have been 1700 I would have found a cheaper place to go. What happens if I don't pay? Can I challenge this with the surgeons office or with the insurance company? I don't know how to proceed [link] [comments] |
Colorado - Does the ending of a COBRA premium subsidy qualify you for a special enrollment period? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 08:17 AM PDT I know that the federal exchange has recognized end of a COBRA premium subsidy as an event that would permit an individual a special enrollment period. Is this the same case in Colorado and their state exchange? [link] [comments] |
Medical Insurance for Contractor with preexisting conditions in Texas Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:10 AM PDT Hi all, I'm an independent IT contractor, living in Texas and traveling to California 50% of the time for work with a long term client. I've had an S-Corp for the last year - been using COBRA so that I could have decent insurance in Texas, because I have a family of 5, and 3 have pre-existing conditions. I picked up another year on the contract - but my client has informed me that i can't continue under my S-Corp because labor laws say I'd be an employee since they are the one source of income for my company. So - I'll become a W2 employee of the contracting firm I am with. It's owned by a buddy of mine, and he has a couple of other W2 employees working other places, so it's good for employment. Getting insurance in Texas as a independent with only one employee was not easy. In Texas, I was rejected as an individual for pre-existing conditions - only 2 options that were hyper expensive and I'll loose all the specialist Drs my family has had for years. My new "employer" (located in California) doesn't offer insurance to any other employee - in fact his insurance comes from his wife's job. Is it possible to get a group policy under his company and I pay 100%, even if I'm the only one on the policy? [link] [comments] |
Auto Insurance not pursuing my deductible. Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:16 AM PDT I was involved in a crash. I was driving south bound traveling straight, other driver facing north bound, attempting to make a left hand turn to travel west bound. Driver proceeds to make turn while light turns yellow, but I am already in the intersection. My insurance send me a letter stating that they are taking their attorneys advice and not pursue for my deductible, but that I can go after it myself. I am neither deemed liable for the accident and my monthly premium will not change. Why is this? And what is the best possible action for me to take not hiring my own attorney if possible. The kicker is, the officer who arrived at the scene filed the report way wrong. Officer has it that I was traveling south bound attempting to make a right hand turn to travel west bound. How? I was driving on a two lane road in the lane furthest from the side walk. Smh, officer couldn't even get the make and model of the other drivers car correct. Any advice helps. Thanks. Edit: I am located in IL. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:01 PM PDT I noticed some companies were giving refunds and discounts to folks since the daily commutes were lowered to 0 miles. Thought that was worth sharing with my family. Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:55 AM PDT So, my brother is going through a divorce right now and he has two trucks that are titled in his Wife's name. She has agreed to give him the trucks since he bought them technically. He wants to title them in my name and put them on my insurance since he has a bad driving history (speeding tickets). Is there any downside to this? I was thinking about doing it with a separate insurance company than my current auto insurance just to keep the costs separate. Edit: I'm in Virginia [link] [comments] |
