Can I purchase Dental Insurance now and use it in a week?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 04:48 PM PDT

    Hi,
I am a student in USA right now. My student medical insurance doesn't cover dental.

I had a root canal done back home in India and the tooth cap came off. I have no pain currently but I feel I cannot wait for long.

Can I purchase dental insurance now, wait a week or so, and then claim it?
Which insurance provides good dental coverage?

Short Term Disability Appeal - Maternity Related

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 11:14 PM PDT

Hopefully this sub is the appropriate place for this post. I am located in Texas.

I am currently on maternity leave and had a c-section in January. Per my work's HR department, employees are eligible for up to 12 weeks of STD postpartum, depending on the doctor's recommendation. However, despite the c-section, the insurer only approved 6 weeks of STD and denied an appeal.

In order to get my ducks in a row, what do I need to do to demonstrate need? I experienced complications in the incision healing, have experienced postpartum preeclampsia symptoms (migraine, vision changes, and dizziness in particular), and I am still dealing with significant residual carpal tunnel symptoms. Additionally, my newborn was in the nicu for nearly a month and I have been battling with postpartum anxiety as a result. Needless to say, this struggle with the insurance isn't helping.

I'm going to have my doctor fax the appeal in. She would like me to have the entire 12 weeks to allow time for the above factors to heal properly. What needs to be included in the appeal?

Improving my total loss payout? [OH/US]

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 06:10 PM PDT

My 2010 Pontiac Vibe with a manual transmission was totaled in an accident, with the other party at fault. The at fault party has Progressive, the same as me. The claims adjuster with Progressive declared my vehicle a total loss. After reviewing the vehicle, they gave it a slightly below average condition based on vehicles with a similar year and mileage, and deducted $128 for some small cosmetic issues, which I won't argue with. I checked with NADA, and it puts the value at $6,225 for the retail price. Using Mitchell, they compared my vehicle against 5 other somewhat comparable vehicles, and came up with $4,347.24 as my vehicle's value. I purchased the vehicle for $7500 with 54,001 miles in January of 2018, and it had 76,323 miles before the collision, and recently put $350 into new tires.

Unfortunately, Base 2010 Pontiac Vibes with similar mileage to mine within 150 miles of me are essentially non-existent, which allows them to reduce the value without citing any real prices on similar mileage vehicles. They used 5 comps, all Base 2010 Vibes. A couple of issues I have with the comps they picked are that they are all higher mileage, and have comically large differences in each compared vehicles valuation. For example, the closest vehicle they have to mine has 78,825 miles, is automatic, and has power features. It's listed for $6,995, and they adjusted that number down to $5,839, due to it being an automatic, having the preferred package, as well as them projecting the sale price will be less than the asking price. Alright, that's fair. But, they also have another vehicle sourced from a supposed dealer sale with J.D. Power, where the vehicle had 126,399 miles and sold for $2820, which they adjusted up to $2,990.34 for my vehicle. The different of 47574 miles between my vehicle and this vehicle is worth about $495.23 according to their adjustments, which are not in line with what I'm seeing on listed vehicles with mileage similar to my own.

Allowing for a difference of a year, I can find a significant larger amount of Base 2009 Vibes with similar mileage to my vehicle, with an average dealer price of about $7500. I plan to find the closest vehicles and show them to the claims adjuster, but if they're current comps are anything to go off of, I'm expecting them to say only Base 2010 Vibes qualify for value estimations. I looked, and found only one Base 2010 Pontiac Vibe aside from the ones they listed, and by their standards with the price being adjusted the value of it would be about $5250. For manuals, I only found two, and neither are Base 2010 Vibes. The first is a 2010 GT with about 14,000 more miles than mine, with alloy wheels and the full package for $7,495. I don't know how they adjust with base vs GT, but I'm figuring once they adjusted with this vehicle it'd be around $5800. The second is identical to my vehicle, with the mileage even almost being exactly same for $6,950. The only difference is it's a 2009 and has a roof rack.

My current thoughts are that I might be able to get them to go up slightly due to the recently installed tires, as well as by showing them the 2009 comps that are much closer in mileage to my own. If they aren't willing to use those, I will at least have the single 2010 Pontiac Vibe I found, which is much closer to my vehicle than the high mileage vehicle they used that's bringing down the average by quite a bit.

Is there any way for me to argue the deductions they're making for the vehicle being a manual? Especially as they lack any real world examples of manuals. Additionally, if I wanted to get the exact same vehicle, I would need to either drive an insane distance, or have one delivered. Would this give me any room to ask for more? Finally, does the price I purchased the vehicle for hold any weight? How about the value listed by NADA? If there's anything here I'm overlooking I'd love to know. Thanks for those who read through this!

Flood or water back up insurance?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 05:07 PM PDT

Long story short. We have had a lot of rain and our basement flooded which caused our sub pump to back up and pump more water into the basement. We filed a claim and had the insurance call out plumber, who informed the adjuster that the back up was most likely caused by rain fall and flooding. Our adjuster will only give us the water back up and not the flood insurance which would help cover the damages to the basement. Is this normal? Should we be given flood coverage if our plumber stated it was most likely due to water because of the rainfall?

Can I lower my car insurance rates

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 08:08 PM PDT

Hey I'm 19 from the state of New York and I have Gieco auto insurance. Now i understand that my situation Likley warrants for the price I pay but I'm still wondering if there's something I can do to help my cause. I pay $380 a month for my 1995 Nissan and that's all in liability insurance. The car is registered and owned by me and my parents have been strict from the beginning that they don't want me on their policy. Now. I have been in one small accident which didn't affect my rates. Besides defensive driving which in doing soon is there any option to lower my cost. I've tried getting quotes from online and they're all extremely high. I'm wondering what my options are as I don't drive much and 380 is alot. Thanks for any help.

    Accident Rate Question (California)

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 05:49 PM PDT

I (M18) recently was involved in an incident in which I ran over a motorcyclist that wiped out on the highway. (Police involved, nasty stuff)

Long story short, there was damage to my vehicle, and while I am insured through my parents, they are insisting that we pay out of pocket. They are worried that the rates will become unbearable to maintain me on the plan, and I'm trying not to punch a hole in my parent's bank account.

Does anyone know if a police report proving innocence will help my insurance not explode, or should we just continue to go out of pocket to avoid a rate hike?

Will going to get a state ID instead of a drivers license trigger my insurance to go up or ask questions?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 05:25 PM PDT

My license just expired. I know I'll need a vision test to renew and won't be able to pass (currently not driving but other half is). I was supposed to have surgery to correct vision but this virus happened and I'm SOL. I need to get ID for bank acct for stimulus check as I haven't filed taxes in two years and don't have an acct (I know, life happened and I don't owe taxes so didn't file in addition to moving and needing to open new acct). So everything is piling up. Can't work. Not sure how I will receive stimulus bc how will they know where to send. Really need to get ID but don't want insurance to go up.

Is this normal for a TRS (Telephone Sales Representative) position?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 05:09 PM PDT

I recently applied for a Telephone Sales Representative position, which will require me to acquire a license to sell insurance in the long-term. Due to the corona pandemic closing down the testing centers that issue the licenses, this company is hiring and training people to use their software to pick up warm leads and connect the clients with an agent to close the deal.

I know the work is commission so pay isn't guaranteed, but they are going to require me to pay $100 to "Set up my CRM" on the first day I start. I'm not sure what a CRM is, but I was hoping for any advice that you guys might have on whether or not this is a normal thing, and if it would be worth it in the short term.

Any tips or advice in general would be appreciated!

    Can't find any insurance?........

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 07:29 AM PDT

Im asking for a friend, he is looking to rent a spot to do some custom design work. Things made of wood and metal. The place he is renting has all the tools, equipment, space and even a little locker, but requires him to find his own insurance. I assume for breaking things, injury or death. Yet my friend is unable to find an insurance agency that will cover him.

I should note he is trying to start up a business and has minimal capital. Maybe that part of the reason I'm not quite sure. Also we are living in Canada. Any help/suggestions are much appreciated.

Totaled 1999 Jeep Wrangler with new parts I want to keep!

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 10:32 AM PDT

So someone turned left in front of me last week and totaled my jeep, frame damage put it over the top. I just, two weeks ago, installed new tires and rims, winch and KC lights w/mounting brackets and a new Optima yellow battery and I would like to keep these items. What kind of hassle, if there is going to be one, can I look forward to in telling them I want to keep these?

I realize the insurance company way undervalues the cost of added accessories and all told these things cost me upwards of $3000 and I know they aren't valuing them even close to this.

I know their Valuation will be deducted from the price they offered for the vehicle, which is a darn good price, but I'm not looking to get into any kind of argument with them about these parts but I can sell them myself and get much more.

Any suggestions, advice, personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. I'm not in a rush, they said I have a year to either sell it to them or keep it with a salvage title at 75% value.

I'm in Kansas and insurance is the "like a good neighbor" people.
