Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:37 PM PDT I feel like I kill myself working my butt off, and make great sacrifices for my job, but then in the off time, things become unavoidably hectic in my life, and I need some leeway and understanding there is none to spare. In fact, the asshole managing partner doesn't even recognize any of the major back bending sacrifices I have made and proceeds to talk to me like I'm the biggest slack off there ever was. I have been proud about never making any excuses, I always bucked up and risen to whatever task was at hand, but this time I am in a time sensitive predicament due to totally unforeseeable external factors (literally had to deal with damage valued at over $10,000), I get ZERO understanding (I don't even expect sympathy, just understanding) and the all the while get treated like a steaming hot turd. The real slap to my face was the fact that he clearly didn't listen to a thing I said. I am so sick and tired of working my ass off, not even have it be appreciated but actually be spoken to like a piece of shit. I don't even care that I don't have another job lined up, I feel determined to quit. Surely there's more to life than to slave away more than half of my waking hours for this low pay nonsense. Could you commit accounting fraud on the purge Posted: 27 Apr 2020 10:32 PM PDT Theoretically, could a company have their accountants move money around against accounting guidelines (for tax purposes maybe) on the date of the purge get away with it? Would the date of the crime be the date the accounting entries were made, or some other date? Asking for a friend... [link] [comments]
Should I let my firm know I’m dealing with anxiety? Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:15 PM PDT Along with the pressures of WFH and everything else that came along with this pandemic, I recently went through a rough break up. I've really tried to focus on work but my output is no where near where it should be. Should I let a manager or HR know before they come to me? I don't want them to think I'm just trying to get out of work or looking for some sympathy. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:43 PM PDT I completed an audit internship at a Big 4 last summer and accepted a full-time offer with them, and was going to start this summer/fall. With everything going on, there's a pretty good chance my start date could get deferred, right? They sent out an email last month to us saying they'll finalize start dates soon, but that's all I know. I haven't asked my recruiter yet because they probably don't know either lol [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:45 PM PDT Hi guys, So the firm that I'm interning with this summer has decided to make our in-person internship to a virtual 4 week internship. I'm pretty excited and nervous about this transition. Any advice or topics? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:47 AM PDT I regularly work from home (even before COVID) and complete form 8829 to claim expenses for business use of my home. After watching Tiger King, I've decided to purchase a tiger with the money from my stimulus check. The ultimate aim is to purchase additional tigers in the future and use them to attract multiple young women whom I will convince to be in a polyamorous relationship with me. There are a few issues to overcome, but that's the long term strategy. For now, whilst I'm still working as an Internal Auditor, I wanted to know if I can claim the home office portion of the cost of the food/veterinary bills for the Tiger on my taxes, as the tiger will obviously be a great way of securing the home office from intruders. As a Staff 1, how much of the workpaper I'm working on am I expected to learn over time?? Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:43 PM PDT I know as a Staff 1, I'm not expected to understand anything, but at what point am I going to be given a task and have the expectation that not only can I format it correctly, but actually do real work on it. To put it another way, how much do you, seniors, giving staff 1s a task, expect them to try to comprehend the document, versus just doing the bare minimum of formatting and handing it off to you so you can do the real work on it? Like if you assign me a task, would you rather I just format it and try to complete it as fast as possible so you can start working on it because you think me trying to understand it is a waste of time? Posted: 27 Apr 2020 11:52 AM PDT Out of a class of about 27 first years I was 7th from the bottom. Honestly I was somewhat shocked. Every check in I had, my seniors always told me I was doing great and only ever offered constructive criticism on what seemed like minor things. I figured I was on track to be at least in the middle of the pack. The only thing I can think of is maybe the senior manager on my first project which accounted for ~50% of my hours rated me low. I started in busy season on this project and two weeks in one of the two seniors on the engagement was fired. I ended up being assigned a very complicated section of testing that was originally assigned to the fired senior that took up many hours and was quite a struggle for me. Despite this I feel like I still asked for help when it was necessary and did my best. Part of why the section blew up was because I discovered that due to a change in how the client was tracking the balance, we needed to adjust our testing approach. At the time my senior was impressed that a first year was able to even figure that out. Anyways as things went on, something would blow up this section of testing it seemed like very new step of the way and it wasn't completed until the day of filing. Despite this, I STILL completed every other section of testing assigned to me in the project plan and was working over 75 hours/week. The only reason this sticks out is the day before filing the partner asked the senior manager why the section wasn't complete and in front of the whole team she kind of threw me under the bus and said "Well StudentCPA did it all wrong". It felt unfair because I had kept my senior and manager in the loop every step of the way with what I was doing. I had to change every single analytic from prior year so it would make sense. The remaining senior was of barely any help whenever I asked for it because she'd never touched the section before and this client was in a completely new industry for her. As I mentioned earlier I even adjusted our testing approach for one of the balances we were testing so that it was more accurate. I know this is somewhat of a rant but I've been essentially been in busy season since I started here back in September. I've worked more Saturdays and Sundays than I've had free Saturdays and Sundays. Should I just try and get removed from this engagement? The second year on my team did warn me that this engagement RARELY rates anyone above average and that the senior manager is particularly hard on men. If this is how its going to be I honestly have no interest in trying to improve my score or do well at this firm and would rather jump ship. [link] [comments]

Exit Opps for Public Accounting Tax Associate (8 months in)?? Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:29 PM PDT The thought of leaving B4 gets more enticing each day. Before I do anything too rash, I'd like to see how optimal my exit opps would be if I were to head out 8months into my role as a tax associate (no CPA yet). Big city in TX. First job out of college but lots of internships with the B4 and an audit internship elsewhere (not looking into going into audit tho) [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2020 08:14 AM PDT A lot of my friends are having CPA exams cancelled by prometric even though they said they would be re-opening May 1st for the CPA. NASBA needs to extend the test expiration more than they have because testing capacity is severely limited. [link] [comments] |
