It's been a stressful period of time. I'm looking for an insurance plan that covers COVID-19 from myself. What kind of plan should I generally lookout for?

COVID-19 creating extra hurdles with wind/hail damage to roof and siding - wanting both fully replaced.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:11 PM PDT

Started a claim on Sunday. Wind ripped off a section of my front siding and many pieces are bent upwards. While personally inspecting, I also noticed hail and wind damage to the roof. Not trying to be greedy, but I figured this meant I'd get both easily replaced in full for my deductible.

The first roofer was able to come out quick despite COVID-19, but my insurance contact kept disagreeing with his findings. NORMALLY they'd send out an adjuster, but that can't happen. I now have 3 roofers coming out tomorrow to do inspections for Allstate, plus my contact is now sending a company called "Ladder Now" to do an inspection tomorrow.

Here's my question- I originally thought the roofer would be able to share his findings with the adjuster so they could agree to replace the entire roof. Now I feel worried I won't get anything done because will Ladder Now be working on Allstate's side/best interest rather than mine?

CALIFORNIA: Medi-Cal To Covered CA Reporting Income Change Penalty

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:44 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this sub reddit so i apologize in advance for any confusion, however, i am in need some guidance regarding my healthcare.

I'm in California. The story goes is I had medi-cal for 2019 because i was unemployed. In march 2019, i got hired for a 6-month contract job from 3/2019 - 9/2019. Fortunately, it got extended for an additional 3-months twice. This means my contract role was a full solid year from 3/2019 - 3/2020. During the year 2019, i still had medi-cal as I never reported any income change and never went in for any office visits.

Fast forward today, I unexpectedly got extended for another 3-months where my expected end date will now be 6/2020. In which I decided to to report my income change now because i will only have 3 more months remaining with the idea of medi-cal not renewing my health plan within the 1 year term since i no longer qualify.

Since i reported the income change and no longer qualify for medi-cal , I enrolled over to covered CA. My concern is any future tax penalties because i reported my income change significantly later. I reported my expected income for 2020 and not last year's income, however I imagine they will see how much i earned through my taxes anyways. I regret not seeking financial advice first before taking action, however, i already reported the change and am currently on covered CA now paying a small monthly premium.

My question is how much penalty will they seek back from me due to my lack of update of reporting income change? Would there be any way around this had i not? What would happen if I never reported an income change, leave everything as is, and enroll in my contract agency's health plan instead? The rationale was to continue my in-network healthcare with Kaiser hence covered CA and not have any gaps between transitioning health plans. However, it turns out coverage won't start until 5/1/20, FML. Alternatively, my agency's healthcare is BlueCross and it would've been waaay to costly for my budget expenses.

Any direction on this would be extremely helpful and thank you so much for reading this far!

Triple AAA California: Auto insurance dividends

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 04:32 PM PDT

You've received a policy holder dividend savings of $xxx.

Can anyone tell me exactly what this means and if I can access it? Or is not really my money?

And is there a way to defer payment due to COVID-19?

    Thanks.

    Release and Settlement

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:58 PM PDT

My wife got rear ended (I was a passenger) in a rental car. The damages is about $1800. The insurance company is offering my wife and I each $450 for pain and suffering. What I want to make sure of, is that we are not signing away their duty to pay the $1800 back to the rental company. Is there any verbiage I need to look out for?

    Location is California.

Fence destroyed by a hit and run(?) driver. We have filed a police report likely with proof enough for them to find who it was. How should we handle this insurance-wise?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:29 PM PDT

I live in Washington State for what it's worth - Seattle.

At around 1am 2 nights ago, someone (I assume a drunk driver) ran a car into our fence in our front yard, destroying half of it. It was a nice fence aesthetically with planters in it etc.

Initially we filed a police report just with what little information we had (when about it happened based on us hearing a noise, an uncertain description of the car by a neighbor who actually saw the car drive away, etc) in case we wanted to file an insurance claim. Later that day we found that the driver's entire license plate came off when it hit our fence and was laying under a portion of the fence, so we know exactly which car did it. We updated the police report, took photos, and gave the license plate to an officer who came.

At this point, I have no clue how to handle this in terms of insurance. Before we got the license plate, some people were telling us "If the repair will be over your deductible at all, definitely file a home insurance claim because it doesn't work the same way as your car insurance in terms of rate increases." and some people were saying "If it is a couple thousand over your deductible it isn't worth claiming because your rates will go up."

I still do not know who is correct between those statements, but at this point I imagine that my home owner's insurance shouldn't go up regardless of whether it normally would since they would know who did it from the police investigation and could go after the driver's insurance.

    So my question here is:

    • What should I do?
    • Do I just claim a home owners insurance claim and give them the info I have? am I at risk of my rates going up if I do?
    • Do I wait until the investigation is over and then find some way to contact the driver's insurance? If so, how is this done?

It would seem silly to me that I could be at risk of my rates going up or being responsible for my deductible if the police know who did this from the license plate.

    I appreciate all advice. Thanks!

Advice to take a claim or not

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:54 PM PDT

I would like your advice or what you would do in my situation. I received a cash out offer from my auto insurance that does not include underlying mechanical damage. This estimate is very low and won't even cover the mechanical work let alone the body work. Now if I take it in to get a full estimate the car will be totaled. So I have the choice here to take a cash out or total the car and get much more to repair the car with. What would you do in my place, I am also going to keep the car and never sell it, and they will insure the car after the car has passed the dmv tests and has a rebuilt title.

Is there still a point submitting a claim?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:36 PM PDT

A friend crashed is car in MD about a month ago. Fearing that his premium would spike if he puts a claim in,he elected to pay for the repairs himself. Now, it would seem that the repairs were not done properly and more problems have popped up. We have been yelling at him to put a claim in from the very beginning but he refused and now the shop is asking for more money to fix the new issues. Is there still a point for him to put a claim in, get his car properly inspected at the insurance facility and have everything fixed properly? Or has that ship sailed?

I got a privacy policy mailer from my insurance company and it says I can request that they give me my data - Should I?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 11:54 AM PDT

This is the same privacy notice mailer I get each year, but had time on my hands, and skimmed it and it said that I can request they send me my data. They've been a pain in my butt in the past, so want to see what they have on me.

    [CA] Water damage claim.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:54 AM PDT

My mother just found mold in her hall closet adjacent to her shower in the bathroom. I would like her to be able to utilize her homeowners insurance to fix this problem, but when she files her claim I'd like her to play it close to the chest. So that its not fraudulent but also compelling enough to receive coverage. I don't believe my parents were negligent, they honestly had no idea that the wall had molded and there were no other indicators that there was a leak inside the wall.

    Their homeowners is via AAA.

Bike Hit and Run - Chances of Accepted Claim?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:33 PM PDT

I was riding my bike on a run/bike trail the other day when I got hit by a car that ran through a light at an intersection where I had waited for a walk sign. I'm mostly okay, but I was using my nice bike that day in preparation for a triathlon, and it's completely totaled. I had the presence of mind to get the license plate number as the driver fled the scene (running over my front wheel AGAIN, after it had popped off during the incident), and I was able to get the car owner's insurance from the police. The car owner, of course, is denying that the incident ever happened. There were no witnesses until the first person to see me lying on the ground called 911, and according to the police, there were no video cameras at the intersection. The police did take a statement from me and the guy that called 911, and they took pictures of my broken bike at the scene of the incident. However, as far as I'm aware, that's all the evidence I have. There is an ongoing criminal investigation since it was a hit and run. The police did tell me that they were able to file a warrant for arrest.

I just want to know how likely it is that the car owner's insurance will accept my claim. That bike isn't going to be easy to replace.
