Posted: 07 Apr 2020 08:48 AM PDT I sell services typically ranging from 50K - 75K, but currently have a pending deal with the government for 3.5 Million. My commission on this would be 5%, and for me that kind of money would be life-changing. The government originally told us that they would have an answer by early April, but because of Corona Virus they have told us the decision would be delayed, but can't give a timeline. It wouldn't surprise me if we didn't have an answer for 6 months. My boss has told me that due to Corona he will have to let me go at the end of May, if the government says no, or if we have not heard back yet. So he has told me I should start looking for other jobs just in case. He told me that if deal comes through they will hire me back. I asked him if I can expect the commission regardless of whether or not I decide to rejoin the company, and he is having a hard time committing to that. My reasoning for this is that the work, on my end, is done. I would have very minimal work with the account if it closed. I'm envisioning a situation where I find a new job I love, and have to leave to collect the commission. Am I being unreasonable in expecting this commission? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2020 08:24 AM PDT Just need some advice and to be able to vent. I wasn't sure where to post this but here I go. I do sales for a small software start-up in New York. On March 30th, I received an email completely out of the blue that someone in my office had tested positive for Covid-19. Absolutely no mention was made of this anywhere else after the original email had been sent, be it ZOOM meetings or follow up emails. It was literally this one email. I found that particularly strange. Yesterday, a girl who i sit next to in my department, told me she was the one who tested positive. I asked her why she hadn't told me and the other person on our team. She said she was dissuaded by the manager because he said it would cause panic. Mind you, they still made her work from home when she was sick and after she had tested positive! Anyways, in the email, it said if you had contact with this person, between March 3rd through the 26th, please follow the recommended protocol. I had a good week 9 days of contact with her. The thing that irks me is, my company knows we work closely and have high potential to exposure. Why wouldn't they come to me directly in addition to sending out that vague bullshit email to cover their ass on a legal basis? My friends company, when someone tested positive, reached out to everyone working with that person individually telling them to take extra precaution. Thankfully I haven't left my house in days and have been very careful with hygiene and maintaining social distance, but what was so hard for them to tell me I worked very closely with someone who tested positive. I have two parents with preexisting conditions and their lack of care could've caused some damage. It's like this company doesn't give a shit about their employees. Fortunately, i'm alright but it could've been bad. How pissed should I be? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2020 11:31 AM PDT Curious to see how everyone is doing with this current environment? I work in transportation where there are always highs and lows, but we are staying consistent due to a multitude of reasons (Price, service, etc.) Look forward to hearing from you all. What do you guys create your proposals using? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 06:50 AM PDT Hey guys, I hope everyone is keeping safe and doing their best to smash it through the current crisis. I work in SaaS Sales as a BDM and Account Manager and whilst I've managed to get a few things over the line this month, my pipeline has pretty much disappeared with everything that is happening right now so I've been reviewing our sales process and looking for ways to improve it. At the moment our company uses a shared Canva account with a huge and convoluted proposal template which we add and remove from every time we create a new proposal but as well as being a massive pain in the arse to do each time it's missing basic functionality like the ability to create tables. Previously we used a Microsoft Word Template which was really easy to get looking alright, but lacked the professional 'sheen' which the enterprise clients we're aiming for expect. What do you guys use to create proposals? Are there any simple and fairly cheap solutions out there for easily putting together complex proposal documents? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2020 11:54 AM PDT Ok so long story short I have connections to a supplier in China that produces masks and alcohol and other medical items. I'm located in Texas and the supplier is able to produce roughly 1 million n95 masks per month. How would I go about getting started selling the masks? I only have 15000$ in capital to operate so I cannot purchase masks outright. The state health department is only taking donations so they told me to call hospitals... [link] [comments] |
Need Help With Logistics Forwarding and Skeptical Customers Posted: 07 Apr 2020 08:08 AM PDT I've contacted suppliers from China and I am acting as a sales manager for their companies. I also contacted retailers from the Philippines and they said that they are willing to purchase from the companies, but they want to pay strictly through cash on delivery. I've been looking for logistics forwarders that offer this service but got no luck because most of them ask for a big service charge (10-15%) and that is already topping up the expensive cost of shipping and customs taxes. Any help for providing cash on delivery for an international cargo? [link] [comments] |
Transitioning to a Tech Sales Engineer Role from Medical Device Industry Posted: 07 Apr 2020 11:34 AM PDT Hey, I have a degree in Electrical Engineering and have been working as a clinical device specialist for the largest medical device company in the world for the past 4 years before that I worked as an Electronics Engineer for a year straight out of college. I love my current job and enjoy the mix of technical expertise required and interacting with different people everyday. With that said i feel my earning potential is being capped in this role and I am also looking for opportunities that don't require me to be out of state for weeks at a time. I have experience working with customers and supporting sales already with this role since we have to sell our devices features and benefits to physicians, but even though I'm a part of our team reaching our sales quota every quarter I am not a sales rep. I have the technical background with a strong desire to learn new skills so I am wondering how I can best leverage my experience so far to land a sales engineering position with a tech company. I appreciate any advice that people can give me that could help set me up for success getting into that industry. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Getting into sales once covid blows over? Any advice? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 05:35 AM PDT Long story short, I have spent the greater half of my twenties bouncing between various jobs. Once the COVID-impacted economy recovers, I'd like to position myself in a sales career for higher earning potential and personal growth. In the past, I've worked support roles and saw first hand how revenue generators call the shots and enjoy their career progression. Don't want to be chained to an office doing number crunching or reports for the rest of my career. How does one develop a personality in sales? If you are of middling social skills and an introvert, what methods can be used to become successful in sales? What type of sales should a 26 year old get into with this background:
Currently making 80k+benes. Want to get to 120-150k. Our AE role makes 70-120k and outside sales makes 400-1.2 mil each, but I cant continue to work in finance or wealth management. I fucked my credit in early twenties and cant get sponsored by FINRA. So something in a different industry... Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2020 05:18 AM PDT Howdy, so I stumbled into a car sales job, now this ain't something I had ever even thought of doin before. I was coming off of leaving the IBEW(International Brotherhood of Electric Workers) because I wanted more for myself. I wanted a kinda office job behind a computer. I got an interview for a marketing position, the position offered was not even close to what I was led to believe and I politely declined and headed home. 2 days later I get a call from a woman at a car dealership 45 min away in a town I'd never heard of and she asked if I'd come for an interview. It turns out the first interview I had, I impressed the employer and even though I didn't take the job she offered me. She still called a friend and told her she thought I'd be good at sales. I went to the interview did well and they gave me the position. But here's the problem, I'm 19 and I don't need too much money and I care too much about money. But everyone there it just feels so toxic and greedy. I'm fairly good at what I do and talking has always been my greatest skill. I'm very much considering jumping ship after the pandemic but I don't know. How often does this happen to other people is there an easy way to get out of that funk? What do I do? How do I handle sales? [link] [comments] |
Making a job move in this climate. Posted: 07 Apr 2020 11:13 AM PDT I posted in the thread with the recruiter doing the AMA, but wanted to post here as well to see what additional insight I can get. I'm employed now, but it's been slow closing anything because it takes a while given the nature of the solution. The things I've worked so hard to close are falling apart due to the pandemic. This has got me looking at potential new jobs. The problem I have is I've jumped a lot, and I haven't been in my current role for a year yet. But I am concerned about getting let go. I've been reaching back out to the recruiters who have been hitting me up to see if they have openings and some have quickly responded. My question is, what's the best way to explain my reasons for being open to new positions? Do I just lay it all out there? Or is there a good way to spin it. [link] [comments] |
My husband just got a new job, can he make enough money? New to sales Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:10 AM PDT He's never been in sales before, aside from a retail job back in the day. He managed a trucking company for 2 years making 42k. The owner passed away and the company closed at Christmas. This is the only job he's really found a lead on that wasn't minimum wage. His salary is now 32k. His commission rate is 1%, selling doors. Will he really have to sell a million dollars worth of doors just to make what he made last year? Is that even possible? We live in a very rural town. He is not college educated, I am a teacher. 10k cut is a pretty big setback for us. I mean, we'll live, but our saving was pretty much screwed over the last 3 months, and I don't think we'll be able to build it back up. I guess my question is, can he make money at this? Was this a fair offer? It's a small company. The owner was previously the only salesman. Now my husband will be one. They did mention something about a bonus at the end of the year, but no details. Do I have the right for the commission? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:05 AM PDT I have come to the end of my probation and for various reasons it hasn't worked out which I won't go into for this post. I have a deal which has been rolling for the last few weeks and is likely to actually be booked after I leave this Friday, do I have any claim to the commission or not? [link] [comments] |
I'm a recruiter focusing exclusively on sales roles. I know times are tough during this crisis - AMA Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:03 AM PDT Hey folks, With all the covid madness, I know many people have unfortunately been laid off, furloughed or are nervous their job is in jeopardy. I'd like to do my part and offer to answer any questions regarding job search, career strategy, offer negotiation, interview prep, etc. as I know many might be looking for new jobs. Feel free to post your resume and I'm happy to provide feedback on that as well. A bit about me: I've been in recruitment virtually my entire career, both on the agency side and now working internally with a growing venture-backed startup. I recruit almost exclusively sales folks (with some marketing and opps roles thrown in every once so often) in the startup/tech world, all over the U.S. Everything from SDRs, AEs, SEs to sales management and executive leadership. Prior to focusing on startups, I was a more generalist recruiter, building sales teams in tons of different industries, so I've seen it all at this point! I would love to make a small request of you as we do this AMA - I'm considering launching a small career coaching side business later this year and would love to do a bit of "market research" with you all. I am absolutely NOT trying to sell you anything, but would love your feedback if you're willing to provide it. When you ask your question, would you please let me know if 1) you would ever realistically consider utilizing a career coach (that specializes in sales) for anything like resume writing, LinkedIn profile building, interview prepping, etc.? If so, 2) how much would you expect to/be willing to pay for those services? Again, I am NOT trying to sell you anything and will not follow up with you in any way - just getting a sense for whether there's real interest in the market. If you're not into it, feel free not to address it and just ask your question. I'll try and be as detailed as I can be in my response to any questions and if I don't know something, I'll just tell you : ) Ask away! [link] [comments] |
Anybody here in tech sales? Where do you live? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 09:40 AM PDT Born and bred in the Bay Area here, so naturally the tech sales sector here is huge. But as a guy who is ready to buy a house after saving for the past decade, I don't want to deal with a $5k/mo payment. I'd like to see who else works in tech sales and what metro area you live in. Posted: 07 Apr 2020 09:34 AM PDT I have a friend who has a gas and oil company and made over 1mil in revenue last year. I would pretty much be their sdr but it's a lot of cold calling, which is not something I am too familiar with. I do a lot of warm calling and even that can be a bitch at times, but I'm always looking for a challenge. Are any of you familiar with this field? Not very familiar with mineral buyers and I wonder how covid-19 has affected this industry. Any tips, or personal experiences would help a lot. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Payment Protection Plan PPE loan for sales people Posted: 07 Apr 2020 08:53 AM PDT Hi All For companies that need assistance and use the CARES act loan to cover payroll during this time, the understanding is that there is loan forgiveness if employees are retained and paid 75%-100% of the earnings they had between the window of March 1- June 30th 2019. My question is: for sales people, does this include the commission earned in this period as well or just the base salary? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Clinical specialist / clinical educator role Posted: 07 Apr 2020 05:23 AM PDT Current inside account manager at a niche DME company. D2C selling to head and neck cancer pts but also working very closely with clinicians like SLPs, ENTs, MDs. My background is pretty clinically heavy - I worked in clinical research in the ER and in an outpatient cancer center. I also worked as a patient access rep in an outpatient facility and a dietary aid in the hospital. I have a BS in human nutrition and a minor in business. I like what I do a lot and want to stay in the DME world but have had multiple conversations with our clinical educator and have come to love what she does. My goal is to transition from inside sales to a clinical education or specialist position. Is this feasible with my background and experience? I know RNs are typically the standard for this, or someone with a clinical licensure which I don't have... what should my next step be? [link] [comments] |
Hungry aspiring teenager, looking to break into the sales world. Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:25 PM PDT I'm a 17 year old junior from New Jersey. I have decided sales is the career I want to pursue. I specifically want to start D2D. I plan on taking internships and volunteering if I attend college. However, what I truly want is to gain REAL experience in the field right now. I want to skip the first step of paying thousands for college to do unpaid internships. I would much rather delve straight into the sales world, on the streets, gaining real skills. Feel free to roast me if this is an unrealistic path to take. I understand I'm young and don't know the correct way yet, but hear me out: I am particularly interested in door to door sales, as I believe it is the most effective way of learning the basics and creating that strong work ethic. I did some research on this sub and many of you recommended D2D jobs such as Solar, Vivint, ATP, Charities, and cable providers. I want to know any companies that would offer jobs for entry level younger people. I am open to other kinds of sales jobs too, specifically work I can do part time or during the summer. I read on this sub that cell phone sales are also a great start, even though it isn't D2D. I'm trying to create a game plan to find the best and fastest way to break straight into the sales world as a teenager. If it means going to college first, or jumping straight into the field as a door to door salesman. On my other post on this sub, I received an amazing amount of helpful information that I am grateful for. I would greatly appreciate all of your advice. [link] [comments] |
Online courses related to Corporate Sales Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:56 PM PDT I am into Corporate Sales with an experience of 6 years. I do mostly services/ Concept selling. 8bn877 As I sit at home I want to do some courses which might benifits my profile. But whenever I ask my peers, all they say is in sales all it takes is experience, that's the best certificate you can get. Wanted to know what r/sales thinks about this and also if you guys can recommend some courses which will be relevant for me. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:49 PM PDT Hey r/Sales, I have lurked here for awhile and chimed in from time to time. Given the tough spot some of you are in I thought I would try to help. For the next few days I'll answer questions, give job search/interview advice, or review resumes for those that have been impacted by lay-offs. I've been a hiring manager for 5 years, currently a VP of Sales for a large HR tech company. In the past I've work for Fortune 10, small start ups, and large tech firms. So I guess this will be a mini AMA. Apologies in advance if I am slow to respond (watching my child while doing this) Edit: Of course I'm doing this for free. I do not have a coaching or consultant business. Reddit helped me out once looking for a new job and just want to try to give back. [link] [comments] |

For people in the wireless business Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:01 PM PDT How do you get more business customers/accounts as well as business lines? We do have a prospect tool and script for calling but I'm just looking for advice. I'm looking for advice on walk-in traffic as well as going out to get them either over the phone or events. The other question is also is that is that where the money is? I see both that it is and with other examples it's a waste of time to pursue them. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
