Can we get a location bot?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:57 PM PDT

There are very few forms of insurance where location doesn't really come into play. A location bot would be extremely helpful when giving insurance advice.

My mom hit a sign laying flat on the interstate and it hit the car behind her

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 02:09 PM PDT

So, today we get a letter in the mail from State Farm telling us that our vehicle had been in an accident. We were very confused because none of us were even aware that we were in an accident.

My dad calls, and they tell us that that on March 24, one of our cars hit a sign in the road and it bounced off of our car and hit the car behind us and caused damage.

Apparently it was my mom's car. She said that while driving on the interstate, there was an orange construction sign laying in the road. She couldn't see it until she was right on top of it, so she hit it. But she had no idea that it had somehow caused damage to another vehicle.

So what happens from here? Is my mom going to be considered at fault for this? I mean she had no idea. And there wasn't even damage to her car. This seems like an odd situation that none of us our familiar with.

Per diem as a nurse and insurance

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 03:48 AM PDT

I recently went from a benefited position to a per diem position, thus losing coverage effective April 1st. I reside in California, so I can go Covered California -- however, I am stuck on the "income" portion where they actually determine how much your premiums are.

My question is...what should I be putting in the household income? My husband is the only one with a set salary and I could potentially get more or way less than he does.

    Thanks in advance!

Maximum age for short or long term disability insurance?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:43 AM PDT

My dad is an essential healthcare worker. However, because he's 68, has diabetes, and takes immunosuppressants for Crohn's disease, his employer told him to not come into work because of the coronavirus outbreak. I think he would qualify for disability income replacement if he was younger, but most policies have a cutoff at age 65 or 67. Has anyone here heard of policies that extend into older age?

    An Insurance Company's Questionable Practice

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 05:08 PM PDT

I have auto insurance from a popular insurance company on all my cars. I used to own 3 cars but 1 car got into an accident and got sold to salvage. The agent knows I do not own the wrecked car anymore (unregistered at DMV and signed title away) but puts the non-existent car's coverage on my bill. His reasoning is that I'll get a "Multi-Car" discount since it'll look like I own more than 2 cars and qualify to receive it (On the insurance company's website it says "You'll have a lower rate since you own multiple cars", but the amount of the discount rate is never disclosed).

The agent also told me that since the non-existent car is considered property now and is covered by the insurance company, that I get another discount for Homeowners too (I don't know how this qualifies because I only use this insurance company for auto insurance not home insurance). Him and all the other agents at this insurance agency say that if I remove the non-existent car from coverage, that I will lose the discounts I mentioned and that the total premium will increase by $100+.

I want to save money but I don't know if these guys are committing fraud for me in the process or if this is all "okay". I tried calling the insurance company about this but they just tell me to go talk to my broker. Anyone else in experience this?

A Piece of Debris Hit My Car!

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:21 PM PDT

    Hello,

I live in utah. I was on the highway on my way home from work when the car in front off me ran over a metal object (an industrial metal C clamp) on the road sending it airborne and striking my front bumper and grill. I had to pull the object out of the bumper. It did significant damage (close to $3k according to the estimate) to the front section of my vehicle. My dash cam picked up the whole event as well as a clear license plate number of the vehicle in front of me. The other car didn't pull over.

My questions are: Where do I go from here? I'd rather have the other persons insurance involved instead of mine so how do I find out if they have insurance? Should I file a police report since I have clear footage of the object striking my car? I have progressive insurance so should I file a claim with my insurance so that the adjuster can research if that other vehicle has insurance?

    Anything helps!

    Insurance quote and policy declaration

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:10 PM PDT

I'm shopping for auto, home, umbrella, motorcycle, & life. I was quoted through a broker and had a small savings switching from Allstate to Safeco. Did i make a mistake by giving the policy declaration they asked for with premium? I assume this gives the quoting agency the declarations to match and the price to beat. Also I asked for their declarations to verify they indeed match was told the quoted declarations aren't typically released until the policy is written. How does one know if they are indeed getting a match for coverage without the ability to confirm in writing?

    Tree Root grew through Foundation

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:11 AM PDT

We love our new house! We purchased in June 2019, and have been fixing odds and ends around the house.

We noticed the floor in our sunroom (a home addition from around 8 years ago) was a bit uneven, and odd things around room. Cracked drywall, windows jamming etc. We had a local foundation expert come out who found a large tree root had grown through the foundation and was raising a part of the floor. The quote was about $5k-$6k to re-support the floor (bypassing the compromised foundation). None of this came up during the home inspection.

We have a home owners policy with Travelers, who has always been good to us. We just had to file a claim 2 months ago for a leaky roof.

Would something like this foundation issue be covered under home owners insurance? Should I be concerned about filing 2 claims within such a short time?

    This is in SC.

    Thank you!

Insurance after high risk status comes off record?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 04:57 PM PDT

Hey all, just got a quick question about insurance to anyone that might know. Have been a "high risk driver" from some unlucky tickets a while ago and 1 comes off my record next summer to take the high risk status with it.

Looking at some cars that im gonna save for and my guess for insurance is either its gonna be higher than usual but still manageable or its gonna be crippling. To insure my golf gti while high risk is like $7000 a year, not even full coverage. Ive since gotten my full G which i hope will help a bit.

So my question is, does anyone here had that experience with how insurance is after a high risk status comes off your record?

Also this is just a question to those that know or have experience with this please. Ofc i know its going to be more than someone who was never a high risk driver.

    Thanks to any responses, cheers

Should I invest in LTC offered to me through my company ?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:51 PM PDT

My father is saying its very hard to get these types of plans in the private market right now and it would be worth my while to invest. I'm 35.

    My only concerns are :

    1. Rising Premiums (what will this look like ? Sure its only 23$/month now but what about in 20-30 years?
    2. If I should go with the inflation protection. I have a couple pre-existing conditions and I don't think I'd want to have to go through the medical under writing only to get denied. Right now I have a no questions asked opportunity to sign up without inflation protection.

Minimum required for flood insurance quote?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:42 PM PDT

Hi there friends. I own some land and will build starting sometime this summer ideally. The design is essentially finished. The land lies in the 100 yr flood plain do we are elevators the building with parking underneath, the finished floor will be 2.5 ft above the 100 yr flood elevation. I'm just trying to get an estimate on flood insurance quotes but almost everything I've seen requires the building to be standing with pictures, etc. I understand why this would be required before signing the policy but I'm really looking for an estimate (or even a range) for my financial projections. Any advice?

    Begining Kaplan P&C training.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:26 PM PDT

I'm out of work right now and my uncle who thinks I could do well in the business (who owns an insurance agency) Offered to pay for my P&C licensing training. I'm on day 2 and starting to feel a bit overwhelmed.

I feel like there are some concepts I just don't grasp, and finding clarification on some has been challenging. They said to print out "the state exam outline" which would show how topics are weighted in the exam but I cant find that either.

I'm in Tenneessee, and any tips or help would be appreciated.

Edit:Thanks to /u/Air-Bombay for providing state outline

    Backdating? Geico

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:42 AM PDT

So I moved in January to a new place and among the chaos of moving didn't realize to change my address. After finally changing it recently I realized I had been paying more than double for my last place.

I was told to email some underwriting(?) email and send my bank statements proving I have been living in this new address. But after calling them and not getting a response from the email (they seem to be separate teams) - is this something that insurance companies don't do?

Are you pretty much shit out of luck if you were overpaying and forgot to change your address? Even if it's relatively recent?

    Need help on first claim

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 05:28 AM PDT

I'm insurance through progressive and drive a 2014 Ford Focus.
I was driving to the store Saturday and about a half mile away from my apartment the car itself died on me, and wouldn't start back up again.
So upon solo pushing my car back home , some emergency vehicles came down the road I was pushing my car down and distracted me, causing me to turn the wheel briefly which caused my open driver door to get caught on a post office box and bent it to far open causing it frame damage and now the door is unable to close.
I'm at fault and I've never submitted a claim before. I was given this car 2 years ago by my mom and I know the focuses have a lot of recalls on them but I'm not sure which ones she took it in for and which ones she didn't.
Thank you in advance for your help
