Is there any way to 'hold' a customers card? Trying to eliminate no shows. Posted: 28 Feb 2020 05:23 PM PST I run a mobile mechanic business. Customers can book with me online. I currently use Calendly for Stripe integration and while it does charge their card, I need a way to 'hold' the card so I can bill my customers accurately the day of the appointment as different cars have different needs and different prices. So far I've had no success. Are there any options like that at all? I'm fine paying. I know Stripe and Square can handle it but I have no idea how to use them in the way I described. What does it take to build awareness for the product? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:27 PM PST Should a company try to get shares on social media, create their own social media page, and get in retail stores, and into website review sites and social media influencers? Is this the idea to get a bunch of different nets permanently laying around and people talking about the product in forums to catch potential customers. How does a company build up continual stream of new customers looking at the company without spending a billion dollars? [link] [comments] |
Tips on moving on from family business and setting up on own Posted: 28 Feb 2020 01:36 PM PST As title says. Currently I[24] working for my family business that my father started around 3 years ago, i started 2.5 years ago. So I've been around since it was nothing built the sales from nothing. I think I'd like to move on and start on my own in the same industry. I feel like I've got different goals than my father and better ideas, especially as I have made 95% of the sales for the business. He's really creating a business so he can retire and I'm after something bigger. Unsure if this would be wise move. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:35 AM PST Hi, I am a 14-year-old boy who is currently trying to create a business, I have created a prototype of my device, it is a device that tells you how many plants you have to plant in your house for the best air quality. It works. A company (No names for lawful reasons) has agreed to help me achieve my goal and buy the patent. I am almost finished with everything, I just need more people to answer my survey. Help me by clicking here to do the survey. Thank you very much. Ps. I would put a pick but it is not allowing me to [link] [comments] |
Would you do it all over again.....? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 11:48 PM PST For those of you who currently own small businesses, is it worth it and would you do it all over again? I think a lot of people have the misconception that if you own a small businesses you are laying on beach somewhere, sipping a pina colada with a laptop by your side. While this may be true for some businesses, it's not for most. Most businesses require long hours and dealing with headaches that make a 9-5 job seem like paradise. That being said, is the freedom of not having to work for someone else worth everything you have sacrificed? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Feb 2020 03:16 PM PST Currently we are paying a company to do SEO for our website. Right now we are near the top of google search for a few of our keywords but I would like to be higher up. Since joining the business there has been little done in my opinion to improve SEO. I've been asking our guy what he is doing and he seems to be adding some back links and updating some of our older blogs. Other then that the only other updates have Ben from writing new blogs and just making the website more modern. My question is should we continue spending our money on SEO or maybe take that money and spend it on something such as google ads. Any advice would be great. [link] [comments] |
What's holding you back from starting your own business and creating the life you want? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:38 PM PST I'm curious, what is holding you back from starting your own business and creating the life you want? Before I left my 9to5, I had a limiting belief that I had to be an expert or go back and get a degree if I was going to start my own business. I was scared about becoming broke with a family to support. I had a lot of challenges and limiting mindsets to shift. But, through some really good coaching I learned to shift my thinking and overcome those limiting beliefs. [link] [comments] |

Wanting more detailed POS system but also have extensive scheduling needs. Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:54 AM PST We are a Yoga/Meditation center that has scheduling needs for classes as well as private appointments but also with a fairly large retail selection that we are expanding and now looking into online product sales as well. We currently use mindbody and are making it work but there are numerous issues. My business partners are hesitant to go with a true POS system that integrates with scheduling software due to more moving parts and potential issues (for example square with acuity etc.) Has anyone gone that route and had success? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 03:13 PM PST So I'll keep this brief. I'm in competition for a great location to rent for my business. As an Air Force Veteran I am pretty sure there are tax incentives out there. I still need to contact our Chamber of Commerce and SBA, but would there be any sort of tax incentive for the owner of the business location to rent to a veteran over renting to someone else? The other person was first to it and I'm second in line. I just want to see if there's a way to put myself ahead in line. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
POS for bakery with future order capabilities Posted: 28 Feb 2020 05:33 AM PST Hello. I own a mid size bakery that specializes in custom cakes but also have a walk in retail side that serves coffee drinks, pastries, cake slices etc. We currently use Aloha for our POS and I am not happy with it. We are being forced to upgrade and I want to look into other options before continuing on and signing a new contract with Aloha. The one thing that was hard to find when we originally went with Aloha was the ability to ring in and hold on to a future order, and to also have that sale show up on the date of the future order ie: the money may have been taken on Monday for a Saturday order, I want the sale to be realized on Saturday. Does this make sense? I would love a simple Square or ipad type system but the future order thing is very important. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

Can I (Canadian Small Supplier) say "Taxes Included" at checkout or is that a BIG no-no? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:38 AM PST As a Canadian small supplier <30k threshold who collects 0 GST/HST and 0 tax in general from USA, can I write during my initial checkout pages "taxes included - most jurisdictions"? Or is that not okay? Edit: the most jurisdictions covers orders from BC, QC, SA, MN who have PST. and make up <1% of total sales. [link] [comments] |

Couple of questions in regards to launching a SB Posted: 28 Feb 2020 05:43 AM PST I am just trying to figure out the right way to do this to avoid conflict of interest and any other problems. 1-Anyone running a WOSB business for their wife? I'd love to PM and find out some details. 2- a) If a LLC SB's principal office is in HUBZONE and only have its owner as a member and no other employees. Would the SB qualify for HUBZONE if the sole member/owner doesnt live in a HUBZONE? b) What if there are 2 members of an LLC SB, none of the members lived in a HUBZONE but SB's office is in HUBZONE? c) What if this was an LLC S corp with scenario a)? What about scenario b)? Thank! [link] [comments] |
Single Member LLC Taxes (USA-FL) Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:45 AM PST I'm looking to start an LLC in Florida. I am the only employee, and I am not expecting to turn a profit in the first year. I already have a full time w-2 job, this LLC will be a side project for now. After doing some research, it seems like a single-member LLC is my best option. However, I do have some questions about how the taxes work in addition to bank accounts. First off, I'm assuming that I can open a business bank account and credit cards being a single member LLC. And I'm also assuming that's the best way to operate from a financial standpoint - making it easier to differentiate between personal and business transactions. Where I really have some questions is on how the taxes work. From what I read, if I have a business bank account, I pay taxes on the net profit the business has made regardless of if I transfer it to myself or not. So here's a scenario - say I setup the LLC, get a business bank account and then I make an initial investment from my personal money to the business bank account of $5000. I then have $10k worth of business expenses over the course of a year, and I made $6k. So there is $1k left in the account on 12/31. That counts as a loss of $4k, right? And I would file that on my personal tax return? Second scenario, let's say I make the initial investment of $5k, then I have the same $10k of business expenses, but I make $15k, so at the end of the year my business bank account has $10k in it, then I transfer back my $5k initial investment to myself, and the bank account is left with $5k - I pay taxes on that $5k, right? Also, what exactly is the tax rate for this type of business? [link] [comments] |
Downsides of creating my business number through an out-of-province PST application? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:32 AM PST Hi there, I am based in Ontario Canada, but if I apply for British Columbia PST it says doing so will automatically create me a "business number" that I will use to apply for GST/HST eventually, as well as to reference my biz to other provinces.

At crossroads: Taking a platform approach to business Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:41 AM PST Business strategists have been enkindled to ruthlessly revisit their traditional, linear value-chain models, and investigate how newcomer upstarts are able to disrupt age-old business segments, possessed with nothing classically requisite for business growth. (Quick outline: Platform businesses create an ecosystem for different users to come together to exchange goods, services or ideas.) Platform business models are very different, they operate under a different set of economic rules and use counterintuitive strategies – like paying customers to participate, which rarely holds up par handed-down economics.
