Dealing with employee who always makes mistakes

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:11 PM PST

What's the best way to deal with a very self conscious employee who regularly makes mistakes with things like booking client dates, meeting dates, taking down facts etc.

New employee so I'm hoping she'll improve slowly over time and her performance has improved dramatically already since she first started.

Right now I just point out the issue and say nothing more. No punishment , no assurance, just 'this happened'. I tend to get excuses from her when I do this but I tend to ignore them and move on.

Putting it in writing, Im realizing this is probably not the greatest thing for employee engagement or improving work performance.

Is there another strategy anyone has for how best to deal with employee mistakes

    Subcontractor payment service

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 09:48 AM PST

Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a service that they use to pay subcontractors. I'm often on the road a lot and it's not always easy to print off a check in the office. I know I can setup bill payment with the bank and they will mail a check. I would like to see if anything has any input on services that can also do ach/direct deposit.

    Thanks

Marketing for a local burger place

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 01:08 AM PST

I am doing some marketing for a local burger place in my area. They are tired of the person they have and want some new ideas. They are in a location around all office buildings etc so the hard part is that they will never get walk ins at night etc. They have decent social media currently but I feel like that should think outside the box.

    Ideas I currently have are:

    1) Loyalty card - trying to create some loyalty.
    2) Dropping flyers at businesses around that will hopefully draw in customers.

Does anyone have any other smart/interesting marketing ideas?

Thanks in advance and really appreciate it!

    Huge partnership proposition

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:25 PM PST

Hi!I am 23 years old, owner of 2 plant nurseries we produce half of our products and stock the other half from fellow colleagues that do the same.

Yesterday i had a call from the biggest reseller in my country (something like amazon), they want a partnership with me. They want to expand by creating a new tab for plants in their online shop.I will sell my products from their name as a contractor. I checked if there are any other contractors like me working with them. There is one and he is a slow-poke - prices throught the roof, and you can only buy 5 in bulk. On my online selling platform i have 330 made sells and no one bought anything more than twice in one order.

Their offer is integrate me into the website (helps with the marketing, because they are huge where i live and their name will sell my products and increase overall sales), and when i make a sell at the end of every month will declare 20% of the sales from their website to them. I will negotiate about the percentage because it s too high 15% would be perfect.

My only demans is not to be connected with them in anyway and the sales will be only with their name. It will keep the intergrity of my business. This way i could contant all other local manufactureres and make them sell for me.

I had no other experience such kind of a contract. I think that as long it boosts my overall sales it's a go and i would only benefit. What do you guys think?

TLDR: Manufacturer contacted by a huger reseller for a new brand in their website (basically dropshipping my items). Opinions? Sorry for english guys...

How do you recommend going about starting a financial company?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:19 PM PST

My company is an automotive parts business with ~$40Mill in annual revenue. We are the biggest in our area and have the strongest brand name for auto parts in the area, built over decades. We are considering starting a financial arm because we have a lot of cash flow which could be utilized more optimally. We spoke to a gentleman who is in the financial industry and he recommends we do the following:

    • Start a separate entity and lend people money to buy our products while partnering with him (he wants equity)
    • Use this same entity to invest our cash wisely in things such as real estate, bonds, IPOs, etc. (he wants equity)

He states that collection is the hardest part of lending money (after having the cash and the brand). However, he doesn't really come with any collection experience. So I'm thinking to myself why not do it myself? There is a large company in another industry that is in the area and they successfully opened a financial arm for their customers to borrow money from them to purchase their products. They only have 5% bad debt so the algorithm they utilize to determine who to lend money to and who to not lend money to seems to be working. I have Linkedin Recruiter (I can directly access all their employees) so I am thinking why not hire a few of their collection team members and copy and paste their model of credit since it has been working for them in the same area instead of giving equity to this man who hasn't done it himself? To me it doesn't seem like rocket science but I want to get the opinion of the folks here.

For me partnering with this gentleman raises the below pros and cons:

    • Pros:
      • He would handle the collections aspect (if he can) while I continue to focus on the automotive business.
      • He has experience in the financial sector while I do not so there are many things I do not know.
    • Cons:
      • He would have access to our database of customers (we serve 2,000 people daily) and could easily sell this database to a competitor.
      • He would really be benefiting from us more than us benefiting from him.

For me doing this without him raises the below pros and cons:

    • Pros:
      • Our data stays exclusively with us, with no chance of any competitor having it.
      • No need to share profit.
    • Cons:
      • We would have to manage a new set of staff which could pull focus from the automotive parts business.
      • We have no experience in the financial sector.

Ultimately our aim is to diversify our income stream.

Let me know your feedback. Thanks.

Help With Marketing My New Business

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:16 PM PST

I'm starting up a mortgage brokerage.

I'd like to create content usable across twitter, instagram, facebook, youtube, linkedin, and podcasts to help promote the business and provide people value.

Mortgages are boring and I don't want cheesy in your face advertising/content.

What are some indirect ways and/or value adds that can help generate a following and more business?

    Thank you for any help!

Starting a new business in different state, how should I do it?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:17 PM PST

Hello. I own a small medical billing business with my spouse. We formed an S Corporation 3 years ago in New York, it was making around $50k/yr, few months ago we lost a big client. We then moved to Florida and I got hired full time on W2, since then the business was getting paid flat rate of $1200/mo. We are homeowners and running the business from home, we have a dedicated room for the office so part of our housing expenses is also business expenses. I own 10% and my wife is a 90% shareholder, that's what we were suggested by our previous accountant. We never made payroll. We are planning to grow this business to the point where we wouldnt have to work for someone else. But first we need to transfer it to Florida and register it to our new address, for what I found out we would need to close that company and start a new one, which might be okay because I want to change the business name anyway. Now, I would really appreciate your advice on what is the best option for us.

What is the best type of business in our situation (making low at the moment but planning to grow)?

What is the most pocket friendly way to get this business transferred from NY to FL?

I've heard that there are some ways that would be very beneficial for us if we run the company as married couple, is that true?

    What would you suggest?

I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

My s-Corp is registered in NY. I'm going to expand my services to Nevada.

However, I won't be moving there.

In order to save on some taxes, what is the process like to move my business to Nevada?

adding new features, or making changes?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:00 PM PST

To keep adding the right product features, adjusting the brand, and adding new target customers, part of this seems to be customer feedback, part of it is market research (to bring new ideas into the product). But the part that seems to be important is the human touch, of making a decision of what has a 'high' probability to work.

i.e if its a mens dress shoe, the original idea might be to make cheap, $100 to $200 dollar work dress shoes, but you find out that your customers are wearing them more like moccasins or boat shoes. And that the product and brand might be better off as a casual shoe.

Is the core of business essentially trying to continually test out random options to find out more about the market. And attempting to hit a 'gold mine' by slowly improving the brand, product to figure out a really great offer that a lot of people want?

Any decent debt collection agencies who do not have astronomical fees?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:03 AM PST

After being in business over a decade I have lost patience at chasing excessively delinquent accounts. Every year I have 5 or so customers who just decide not to pay. It's typically not large enough balances to warrant going to court, usually around 400 - 750 bucks per account.

Anyone use and have had success with any collection agencies? Or some other option.

Me calling and emailing yields nearly 0 success, since people do not answer emails nor calls.

I am UK based - Recommend an online bank that allows me to make and receive USD payments without a fee/bad exchange rate

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:40 AM PST

    Hey,

I run an online business that makes and receives small payments in USD for web hosting/services and then receives payments in USD to GBP.

I often get shafted when I pay for things in the US. So for instance I have a service that costs $8 a month, which ends up being £6.18, plus a non-GBP transfer fee of £0.18, plus a Purchase fee of £0.50. So this ends up being $8.89. Doesn't seem much but it adds up monthly and I have about three of these types of things.

I'm only a very small business for now and just want a separate bank account I can use to reduce these costs and also so I can manage incomings/outgoings as a business without a personal account involved.

Any recommendations that are free/good? I mainly bank by app.

    ACH/eCheck Payment Processing

I did some googling, and a bunch of different companies popped up. I have never used a service like this before, so I don't have any idea where to start. Any advice is welcome!

    LLC question

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:18 PM PST

I am a US non-resident living in Europe. Together with my partner who is a US resident I opened up an LLC with 50%/50% ownership. My question is: Can this LLC act as a "pass-through" entity so that we "contract" ourselves for certain jobs so that in turn we send part of the profit to a LLC 100% owned by my partner and part of it to my company in Europe.

    For example:

Our 50/50 LLC gets paid for a service.

I did 30% of the job so my company gets 30% from the profit.

My friend did 70% of the job so he gets 70% sent to his LLC.

Can this be viewed as shady business in some way?

    Thank you.

    Beginning my small ecommerce business

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:04 PM PST

So I am trying to start my small ecommerce business; I've been sourcing from whole sellers overseas which been good but their minimum orders can be high. I found some wholesellers in the US which carry some stuff that I want but unfortuantely I need a resellers permit. I research how to apply for one which I plan on going LLC route. How does the reseller permit work on taxes and regulation in California? I do plan on selling the items on ebay which is already collecting taxes. Anyone can guide me - appreciate the info.

Most of the generators looks useless, can u offer me one?

I'll manufacture plastic and cardboard boxes and sell them internationally.(main aim is abroad(uk,us))

I'm thinking about things like durapack, nicepack etc.

Only these aren't taken and they sound very cheesy lol

Can I have help from e-commerce sellers?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:36 PM PST

    Hi,

I'm in the position of validating a product that involves mapping all sales in one place which holds social features. I was wondering what are your view as a seller or shopper using this platform.

It would be nice looking for beta testers (particular from the US or UK).

Feedback would be great as well.

    Thank you.

Wordpress Appt Booking Software That Syncs With Google Calendar?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 07:28 AM PST

Hi guys, quick question for those of you running a Wordpress site:

I do consulting work, and my website uses Wordpress. I'd like to implement a way for clients to book appointments with me via my website.

Having said that, I use google calendar as my main calendar software, so what I'm hoping is that there is some sort of software out there that will accomplish the following:

    • Client goes to my wordpress site, and accesses the appointment booking page;

    • Client schedules appointment via the wordpress interface;

    • The now-booked appointment will magically appear on my google calendar;

Does anything like this exist? And if it does, does anyone here have any experience/suggestions for what to use?

    Small Signage Business?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:33 AM PST

I have been doing graphic design for over 5 years, making small money on the side. I had the idea to turn it into a sign business but don't know where to get the actual signs from. All good searches just end up in places do get signs for your business but not where to get signs manufactured for a SIGN business.

So, if I made a sign business where I designed signs, where do I get the actual signs from?

Looking for ways of electronically cataloging paper documents

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 07:01 AM PST

I have 2 small businesses, I'm mostly looking for a way of cataloging invoices and receipts. Some documents as well. I have a fuji scansnap ix500, and an HP enterprise Multifunction office printer with a flatbed.

Right now i've made a scanned documents folder, sub folders for each year. 2020, 2019, 2018, etc. Sub folders under that for categories. Business, Personal. Under Business > Main Business 1, Side Business 2, more sub folders under those like utilities, repairs, automotive, office expenses, licensing, meals & entertainment, etc.

    Every file I then try to keep a standardized naming convention "<Date> - <Document type Invoice/Receipt/Record/Document> - <Vendor/Source> - <Description>"

I'm wondering if there's a better way to do things? This feels a little clunky and cumbersome.

I have 2 different friends who are small business owners one swears by Neat, and the other by efilecabinet. I haven't sat with either of them yet to mess around with the interfaces. Wondering if there's any value in software like this, from what i've seen online not so much.
