ER visit for a knife stab

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 07:18 PM PST

I am waiting at an ER after stabbing myself with a knife while cutting an avocado. It was bleeding a bit and is little less than half an inch deep. I am not a US national and have no family and very limited friends. This is my first time experiencing a medical emergency in US. ER seemed the best option. I uberd myself here and now i am searching about ER visits and getting mixed answers. I don't wanna end up with a huge medical bill for a wound that i can't afford.

I am getting anxieties and feeling like going back home and putting a bandaid on.

I have blue cross blue shield PPO and am at an in network facility.

Insurer cannot find record of my policy, denying me coverage

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:17 AM PST

Please help me find out what recourse I have here, and if I need to consult a lawyer.

I bought a new (used 2019 VW) car on Feb 15, at which time I also purchased car insurance. I purchased my policy online with a major insurance company that I also have home insurance with.

I paid in full for 6 months. Money was taken out of my account by said company. I received a proof of purchase, along with a temporary insurance card.

Lucky me, a couple days later I got into a car accident. Filed a police report, filed a claim with insurance, and scheduled an appointment with adjuster to come look at my car.

Fast forward to this week, the adjuster calls and says they cannot find my policy and that my accident is not covered. When I log into their website, it says "policy purchased, your policy is being processed".

I am at a loss for what to do. Since I have a temporary insurance card and they have my money, I do not understand how they can tell me (and the person I got into an accident with) that I am uninsured. When I go online to my states website, my car is also showing as insured.

Anyone heard of this happening before? I'm so angry and frustrated. I would have never driven off the lot if I was not insured!!

    Michigan Auto Insurance Strategy Questions

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:28 PM PST

Renewing Michigan Auto Insurance and was wondering if anything covered in no-fault overlapped with or changed how I choose for the rest of the policy? Specifically, I was wondering about how it impacts my choice of collision coverage.

Also, it sounds like no-fault changes somewhat in July, should I do anything in anticipation of that?

My car was hit and destroyed while parked. I still owe on the loan. What do I need to know?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 11:51 PM PST

Today my car was parked on a residential one way street. Two cars hit one another and one ricocheted into the rear passenger side of my car.

The SUV that hit me has insurance* (the card she gave me was expired, but swore it was just an old card), but the driver does not have a license.

The sedan that hit the SUV into mine is not insured, but the driver is licensed.

I have full coverage, including uninsured motorists and I have a deductible of $500.

All parties stayed and exchanged information. Police were around the corner at another call when they heard the accident and ran over, so they were on site prior to me coming out to see my parked car up on the curb.

The damage to my car is significant, and in my (unprofessional but educated) opinion- I am 99% sure it will be deemed a total loss.

My insurance is sending a tow truck in the morning and I will be bringing my car to the auto body shop of my choice, which came highly recommended to me by a trusted person in the auto industry.

My car is valued at on KBB between $3000-$7000. On Craigslist, the same car is selling for around $6000-$9000 for similar mileage. I owe close to $4000 on my loan.

A rental car is not covered on my insurance plan.

My thoughts: When I bought my car certified used in 2015, the mileage and specs of the car had a life of at least 100k additional miles. I consistently average 10,000 miles a year so that was a ~10 year investment I chose to make. Because of this incident, I am now out of a car 5 years sooner than I had planned to be.

I will experience lost wages for today, tomorrow, next week and I plan to start a new job 1.5 hour commute away on March 9 which public transport is not an option. If it is deemed a total loss, then I will also have to spend a considerable amount of time looking for and purchasing a new vehicle.

This is incredibly stressful and I have been sick all night thinking of what this process will be like.

I understand there are a lot of things at play, but I'm hoping someone can give me some peace of mind. Here are my questions: 1) I'm asking for any tips going in to this- anything you recommend I should know? 2) If it is deemed a total loss, what is the likelihood I will be given enough to pay off what I owe on the loan, recover my lost wages and have money for a new down payment? 3) If it is deemed a total loss, if my insurance company gives me a number and I am not pleased with it, can I negotiate? 4) Is my loss of wages/ personal stress/ the longevity of my investment being cut short legitimate arguments I can make to the insurance company or am I being dramatic?

I appreciate any and all advice. By my rambling, I'm sure it's apparent I'm in shambles and am just looking for any grasp of hope to hold on to. Thank you all!!

Does title insurance actually protect you from deed theft?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 07:49 PM PST

I see a lot of news about scrupulous people stealing houses by forging identities (even bribing notaries to get the deed!). To what extend or under what circumstances does title insurance protect you in that case?

Stacked UM and UIM Across Two Companies

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 02:24 PM PST

Questions about Stacked/Unstacked UM and UIM:

I have an auto policy that is unstacked (only vehicle and only police that I have).

I'm looking at adding a motorcycle, but my company doesn't offer cycle coverage, so I'm looking at another company.

My question is, should I get unstacked, or can I stack even though my other policy is through another company?

I'm assuming I'd also need to stack my other policy?

    I'm lost, help.

    School bus just hit me.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 02:22 PM PST

I was parked inside a ditch, when the school bus grazed my car, damaging it, not bad but there's a big dent/scuff marks. Cops/school members came, barely talked to me and kinda made me feel like they were on the bus drivers side. They didn't ask for my insurance, they took pictures of my car and said their insurance would be contacting me. I said okay and left, never been in an accident before so didn't really know if there was more to it. Should I call my insurance and tell them about this? I didn't get their insurance or the incident number..

Extreme Low-Ball Offer for Totaled Vehicle

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 05:54 PM PST

I am the owner of a 2015 Hyundai Elantra SE with 84,000 miles and no prior accidents. I do not have collision or comprehensive, just a good liability policy and live in NY. I was involved in an MVA recently in which the other party was totally responsible and that party's insurance (Geico) accepted full liability for the accident.

The claims adjuster came out to inspect the vehicle today and deemed it a total loss. The amount they offered was $5800 for a total of $6200 including tax. The report they provided listed comps, all of which were above $7000 and factoring in tax came to an average of $7541; $1300 above the offer amount.

In addition, after scouring CarFax, TrueCar, and AutoTrader for a 2015-2017 Hyundai Elantra with less than 100k miles and no previous accidents, the cheapest vehicles are listed at roughly $7800 and $7900 which come to about $8500 including tax.

Do I have any recourse or leverage with Geico to avoid my having to shell out more than $2,000 out of pocket for the cheapest comparable vehicle?

    Garaging Questions

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 05:52 PM PST

Hi folks! I've been trying to get a clear cut answer on this, but Googling just leads to a myriad of articles regarding address fraud which isn't particularly helpful or relevant to my situation and just makes me worry. Let me explain my situation and ask what would be the best decision. My insurer is GEICO.

I have three cars on my policy. I live with my Dad. I have my Mustang (used to be my commuter), my Dad's car (he is on the policy as a named driver), and I recently purchased a Hyundai to be a commuter and keep the miles off the Mustang. The Mustang and my Dad's car stay at my address 7 days a week, so it is pretty clear cut on what I tell my insurance company about where I garage them. Here's where things get tricky, or at least tricky in my mind:

I've recently started to spend more time with my girlfriend, who lives in a town approximately 20 miles from my own. I work 4 days a week and stay at my place during the work week since it is significantly closer to my job. During my weekend, the car (and I obviously) stays at my girlfriend's apartment. So on an average week, the car is at my place Monday-Wednesday night, then I go to her place and the car is there Thursday-Sunday night. I called GEICO and they stated I won't need to change the garaging address as long as I spend roughly 50% of the time at my address but the nice gentleman on the phone didn't seem to really understand the situation as I'm sure I did a poor job explaining it. The arrangement obviously isn't identical and every week is a bit different, with me staying home sometimes more than others but never less.

What should I do? The last thing I want to do is to lie to my insurance company, but if things are fine as is, then that would be a worry off my mind. It wouldn't be a big deal either if I have to change the garaging address, though given the situation I have no hard proof I actually live there sometimes should they ask.

    Thanks for the help!

Should I Tell My Insurance I Repainted My Car?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 05:47 PM PST

Long story short, my car was totaled last week and my insurance gave me the pay-out amount today which seems to be about $1,000 short of what my vehicle is actually worth.

Part of the reason I believe this is because I replaced the engine with a newer one after the original one overheated on me. I also had the vehicle repainted after I replaced the front number and front quarter panels professionally.

I am trying to get more for my car...would it be a bad idea to tell my insurance company about the those two things?

Wind gust flew my door wide open into another car

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 01:08 PM PST

Hey everyone, as the title says, my door flew into another cars passenger door at a walmart. I got out and tried to wipe the mark to see if it was just paint/dust but it was definitely a visible scratch. I sat in the lot hoping the owner would come out for 1 hour. I left a detailed note explaining what happened along with my contact information and even took a video in case the wind causes the letter to fly away. What's next? Should I let my insurance know? Should I cover this out of pocket? File a police report?

Progressive small accident - will my rate truly stay the same?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 04:49 PM PST

Had a small fender-bender at a parking lot. Minor scratch on their car. The guy shops around, comes back with estimates from $400 to $1500, decides he wants to go with his favorite shop that gave him good service before for $500 (I think it is fair).

Option 1.) Pay cash and have him sign a release - he is happy to sign. I don't even care if he actually fixes his car - All fair

Option 2.) File a claim through my Progressive. Policy states no rate increase for payout <=$500. What else is on the hook? Can they require the guy to go to a different shop and force me outside the $500?

Please someone with actual experience with 2.) - tell me what happened next policy period? next year? any hiccups?

Based off of brochure, will I have to pay for therapist?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 04:18 PM PST

First time I've ever had insurance in my life and I wanted to look into starting therapy. I have no serious medical or mental health conditions. Under "Other Medical Services" they list "Mental/Behavioral Health & Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Services" as "$10 Copay/Office Visit". Can I voluntarily go see a therapist and have it covered if they are in network?

Also, based off of this, would the cost be $10 a visit or is that only after I meet the $950 deductible?

    Thanks!

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 07:18 AM PST

Another car hit me and their insurance accepted liability for car damaged but not the medical bill from the ER. Geico (my insurance) should cover the medical as per my policy. However Geico refuses to cover the full bill and refuses to explain why and refuses to return or accept our calls. What the heck am I supposed to do?

    Premiums after at fault accident

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 03:49 PM PST

I was in my first at fault accident a few months back, (fender bender) rear ended a car in traffic bc I didn't have my foot on the brake and I rolled forward into the car (1-3mph MAYBE). Less than 500 in damage to the guys car, no damage on mine, guy a month later gets an attorney and filed injury, and even though his first injury claim was denied my insurance agreed to give him a settlement later bc he showed he went to a chiropractor (most likely sent there by his attorney bc he didn't go to an ER or UC) ANYWAY either way even with his scam he pulled it off and will get money. I live in Cali, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me a possible estimate of how much I can expect my premium to increase for my first at fault accident w/ bodily injury. Other than this I have a clean record no other at fault accidents, and no tickets.

New policy, first loss within a two days.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:46 AM PST

I recently purchased insurance, specifically renter's insurance. I experienced a loss that would be covered under my policy just two days afterwards. It's a loss great enough to be of concern. I'm concerned about a few things. First of all, if I file a claim so soon into having the policy, could that have an impact on my insurability/premium? Will they not want to insure me anymore simply because it's such a strange situation? Secondly, is there a waiting period before you are covered when you create a new policy and if so, where can I find it in the papers I was given? It's possible I'm overthinking it, but I know that it doesn't look great and it's concerning to me that filling a claim will do more harm than good if I ever need the insurance down the road. If they hike the premium or drop me, that wouldn't be good. Thank you.

Will I get compensated for medical treatment and loss of income?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 03:43 PM PST

    Hello,

I [16M] was in a passenger in an accident 9 days ago and today I was diagnosed with a concussion but to possible whiplash. Doctor said for most people it take 7-10 days for concussion symptoms to show. He also gave a work release. I'm concerned it won't be covered by the person-at-fault's insurance. My mother also reported I was doing fine to the other persons insurance company yesterday. What is the likelihood I will be compensated for medical treatment and loss of income from not working?

    Thank you.

Dropped Chihuly glass (approx. 8-10k) piece...

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 11:55 AM PST

Im not sure if this is the appropriate sub to be posting in but I thought I would start here. We were given a Chihuly piece by my grandfather estimated at about 8-10K which was sitting on our piano. Today my mother was attempting to move it as we are getting the piano tuned and... it dropped.

I know my poor god damn mother. I'm not sure if the piece is insured or if homeowners insurance would help cover something like this, but I wanted to explore our options moving forward. Is there anything we can do or is this simply a TIFU and we have to cut our losses...

Thanks so much for your help!

    Rental Car Damage - California

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 11:41 AM PST

I was renting a car in California and was under the false impression that I had car insurance (25 and was on parent's plan). I did not purchase the rental car insurance policy for primarily this reason.

Anyways, I woke up to my neighbor hitting my rental car which was parked in the driveway. I filed with the car rental agency, enterprise, upon drop off of the vehicle and provided my neighbor's drivers license and insurance. However I received an email that I need to file a claim or enterprise is going to charge me for the repair of the car.

Is this something that I can do through my neighbor's insurance? I know that I was wrong to not have insurance with a rental car, and am uncertain how to file a claim without an agency to assist.

Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.
