Dr. Told me my procedure was covered- now I've been billed??

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 05:50 PM PST

I had minor surgery a few months back. Before I agreed to it I asked my doctor: will my insurance cover this? He said yes, they should. So I set the appointment. On the day of the appointment, I double checked at the front desk while I was being checked in, "Is this being totally covered by my insurance?", they lady said she would double check. She confirmed- yes, it has been covered. So I had the procedure, and now I've gotten a bill for the full amount.

I'm still pretty new to having private insurance through United Healthcare and it's actually quite expensive. Is there anything I can do to contest this? I would have never gotten the procedure if I had known it wouldn't be covered. Kind of freaking out D:

Looking for a New Auto Insurance Provider After an Auto Accident with Pending Injury

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:15 PM PST

(Thanks in advance for any advice/help on this.)

I was in an auto accident around six months ago, and my insurance rates have (understandably) jumped considerably. I don't know how much of the accident details are relevant to the answer to my question, so I'll just describe the situation: I'm a 29 yo male, and I was considered to be at-fault in the accident. The person in front of me (technically, the person in front of them) slammed on their brakes while we were merging onto a highway because they got spooked while merging, and I hit them from behind. I wasn't distracted - I just wasn't expecting them to slam on their brakes. Aside from this accident, my driving record is completely clean (parking tickets, but no moving violations - I was ticketed for 'failing to control speed' at the time of the accident, and I deferred adjudication on the ticket).

My car was totaled, and the car that I hit was also damaged (not nearly as badly, for some lucky reason). There weren't any apparent injuries, but I know that things like whiplash/concussions aren't necessarily immediately obvious. The other party said he felt fine but that he'd probably go to the VA to get checked out. My part of the claim has already paid out for my totaled car, and it seems that the other party's auto damages have also been billed, but I got a message recently saying that there's still a pending personal injury aspect to the claim. (For the record, the guy seemed super nice, and he helped me get my car off of the road after the accident. I hope he wasn't injured in any way.) Since I can't affect his situation, though, I'm curious about how this will affect me and my insurance. So I guess I have a couple questions:

    1. Is there a time limit before I'll know the status/extent of his injury claim?
    2. Am I able to look for a new auto insurance provider while this claim remains open? Would it be wise to do so? If so, do you have any recommendations for where to start looking for quotes, given my situation?
    3. Is there anything insurance-wise that I haven't asked about that I should also be aware of in the wake of the accident?

Thanks again for your time and for reading. I feel pretty lost/worried when it comes to this stuff, so I definitely appreciate any advice you can give. <3

    The other driver is lying

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:55 AM PST

Long story short, a driver reversed into my front bumper in a parking lot. We exchange information, and take pictures. There is very minimal damage on his trucks rear chrome bumper. But on my car, there is damage to the front bumper, and damage to my hood latch. I went to the body shop yesterday and the total came to be around $1800 my deductible is $750. Will my insurance fight to get my deductible back since they will have to pay over $1k? My insurance said that they want surveillance footage from the accident from the restaurant parking lot that it happened in, but the manager is having trouble accessing the footage. Need advice thanks.

Car Diminished value from Progressive Insurance in Illinois

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 10:31 PM PST

    Location: Chicago, IL

    Hi,

I was involved in a car accident about two months back where I was the victim of a hit and run accident. The other driver rear-ended me and ran away. We were able to get all her info using license plates, but she did not have any auto insurance. So I had to use my collision coverage from Progressive to get my car fixed. The damages were mostly replacing my car's bumper and backlights which amounted to a few thousand dollars of work.

I sold my car a few days back and noticed that I lost about $1k in value due to the accident since it shows up on car history now. Is there any way to make progressive pay for the diminished value? Thanks for all your help.

How do I find out which insurance company other driver has?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 07:57 PM PST

I was hit by someone driving their brother's car. I called the cops they never showed up.

He didn't give me any insurance info just the registration & I only have liability so my insurance said they can't help since I'm clearly not at fault but my adjuster did tell me the other car is insured with Geico and gave me a policy number. However Geico said the vehicle doesn't match their info for that policy number?

The guy said he doesn't have a job so small claims would be pointless.

How do I find which insurance company their car is insured with or how can I know if it is insured with Geico before taking them to court?

I'm in California if it makes any difference.

What are some lesser known discounts I could ask for?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 05:03 AM PST

I have an auto accident that is about to fall off my record, so I'll be calling my insurance provider so they can lower my rates once it does.

I already have a credit union member discount, but I was wondering if there were any other discounts available that aren't as well known?

I'm a 27yo male in North Carolina who drives a 10yo Honda, if that helps.

    Want check from company's insurance

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 03:52 PM PST

My car was it hit by the door of a non-profit company vehicle that was swung open by the wind. It was a large van so it left quite a big dent that will require replacement of the entire front driver fender. This is the longest insurance claim I have dealt with, because I submitted pictures to the employee who was at fault and their chief financlial officer has been the one communicating with insurance. They instructed me to get two estimates and I forwarded those to the CFO which were from $1400-$1500

I plan to keep this car until it dies and it's already been repaired a lot. My plan would be to purchase the same factory color fender from a salvage yard for about $150, even though I know it might not match perfectly. The repair shops want to repaint the door and I would rather use that money towards more important things. I have not told them this, but I did send an email saying I would like to fix it before it deteriorates to make it more urgent, because it's been a month since the accident.

The two options they gave me were: "We, company name, can pay the invoice from the vendor once work is complete, have them forward to us and we can handle or 2) you can pay for the repairs and submit your invoice and verification of payment and we can send you a check.

I know I have the legal right to request a check for the value lost to my vehicle and do nothing to fix it. I realize they might be paying out-of-pocket to not involve insurance, so how do I word my response to receive a check?

Insurability on a privately financed vehicle.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:43 PM PST

Help me out here. I'm an agent and pretty versed in P&C but it's been 20 years since I worked in Personal Lines.

Say a family member has a vehicle they are willing to sell to me and privately finance it. I would give them a down payment and then a monthly payment until paid in full. I would be responsible for the insurance payment, but they want to still own the vehicle and not transfer the title until I've paid in full.

What would be the best way to handle this in consideration of insurability & keeping it legally registered? Further, what's the impact on future policies if I were to be without my own policy for 6-12 months?

    Calling all independent adjusters... Pls.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:11 PM PST

I work for one of the major insurance companies in the U.S. and I may have to leave come April due to my husband getting a really great opportunity which will require us to relocate to the city of St. Louis.

I'm trying to remember which independent adjusting companies my current company has worked with, and the only one I can readily think of is Worley. I've searched online but haven't been able to find independent adjusting companies / jobs.

Can anyone provide the names of some of the independent companies you can readily think of? All of the major insurance carriers in the St. Louis area only have entry-level claims jobs which would require me to basically lose the last 8 years of experience and take a salary cut of about $15k. We have 5 month old twins so, suffice it to say, that would really suck.

If anyone can think of any independent companies that may have openings that I can look into, I'd be appreciative.

How to view the policy details of my State Farm Coverage?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 11:01 AM PST

    Hello,

I'm trying to find the full policy details for my insurance coverage. I know I have comprehensive and collision and such, but I'm trying to find a pdf of the specific legal details of what is covered and what isn't and at what rate.

I know they sent a little booklet originally, but that was 7 years and 4 moves ago. Is there a way to pull it form the website? I've only been able to find what coverage I have and not the details.

    Looking for advice

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:45 PM PST

    Car was financed.
Not paid for over 200 days
They sent someone to collect the car.
Car had damages, He sent pictures of everything to the bank.
    They didn't want the car.
He left it and said I could do whatever with it.
Confused me considering there's a lien on it.
Decided to put the car back on the road and repair it out of pocket
    and drive it
Car caught fire 4 months later.
Cheque is being sent to my insurance broker which I will pickup and give original vehicle registration

I'm pretty sure the cheque will be written out to myself AND Lienholder

I got a letter a few months ago offering a 50% settlement for my loan.
I'm wondering if I could negotiate a settlement with my finance and be able to
settle off my loan and potentially get some money out of the cheque?

I've put pretty much the cars worth in repairs to get it back on the road and when it burned down it set me back even more than I was originally. I lost my only source of transportation and as I live far from the nearest town I need a vehicle for transportation. I was hoping this could be a slight miracle to help me get back to work sooner than later.

    Healthcare.GOV question

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:37 PM PST

So I signed up for Obamacare this past November because I turned 26 and got dropped from my parent's plan, and didn't have a job that offered any kind of insurance.

I Just got a new job that offers insurance, but it's a lot more money than I'd be paying through Obamacare. Like 4 times the price.

Am I allowed to stick with the Healthcare.gov plan, or am I forced to take a plan that my work offers?

If I do stick with my current healthcare plan, how bad of a penalty is it coming around next tax season?

    Rental Reimbursement Question

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:34 PM PST

    This is for Florida.

Got a call yesterday at the insurance company I work for.

    Caller was our policy holder.

Our driver is not at fault. Filed through us, and we will be subrogating them.

Further details that will help with my eventual question:

We have her in a car for a few more days, her car was TL and we are wrapping up title and paying her for total loss.

She states that finding another luxury vehicle like hers will take a while. So she informed me we will not be moving forward with subrogation until she is ready. By ready, she means find a vehicle to her liking and submit receipts for us to include for her.

She will be submitting rental receipts for when our rental with her ends and she picks up hers.

She stated that for a car like hers, it is $250 a day to rent. And that the other company will owe her for this.

Now, the way my company handles rentals is this: As claimant, obviously we are going to put you into a vehicle if we are at fault. It is normally an intermediate vehicle UNLESS the claimant owns a larger vehicle and can state need for requiring a larger vehicle. Need it for work, carpool kids, a lot of car seats, medical reasons, etc. We normally don't need much, just a valid justification. The way they train us on this is that we only owe them for transportation and to match their needs that their current vehicle was meeting (medical, large family, work, etc)

So to help her and keep her expectations reasonable so she isn't stuck with a huge rental bill, I told her that the other company may not cover that much a day. She shut that down quick, stated the law is on her side and that the other company will pay her back every cent she spends for however long it takes. I let it go, her choice.

Will this other company actually pay her the $250, with the reason being she had a luxury and wanted a luxury.

Seperate from that, will they even pay rental past what we did? Under her coverages we did it for the 'reasonable downtime of the vehicle' + a few days extra to find a vehicle.

Thank you in advance for your help and expertise.

Help with claim vs out of pocket for minor accident

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 10:25 AM PST

Wife swiped a vehicle pulling into a parking space.

No dents only scratches that maybe can be polished out as wife rubbed some of it out with her hand, our vehicle needs paint but no urgency on our end.

Driver of the vehicle offered to settle for $200 cash, as the car is a beater and has a variety of damage in other areas from impacts

Wife gave them our info but didnt get the other drivers #facepalm

They may/may not have insurance or a license, as we asked for it via text and no response, plus there was a handicap placard on the rear view but they were not handicapped and parked in a regular space so even possibly not the drivers car

My concern is giving cash and them still being able to call and file a claim

    Any advice?

    Auto Accident help

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 09:55 AM PST

okay, so i is was driving when suddenly i hear a crash. i pull towards the opposite way just to see ive made contact with another vehicle. the driver of the vehicle hopped out yelling at me and saying that it wasnt his vehicle (later starts sayin its his moms) he asks for my information to which i give him my registration. he takes a picture of it before getting back in the vehicle and speeding off, leaving me with none of his information. neither vehicle was really damaged other than paint exchange and busted side view mirrors. can anything legal happen to me? i was close to the edge but my wheels never went over the centerline, got real close but never crossed. so my question is, can anything legal happen? what can i be expecting?
