Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:57 PM PST I'm not worried about my ability to pass, but would love to have a definitive answer. This is in the USA, since that probably matters. Also, if this belongs elsewhere, please suggest the proper sub! I wasn't sure where to ask... [link] [comments] |
How would I go about starting an animation company, without knowing how to animate? Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:57 AM PST Like, Id totally be down to be creative director, or someone who works on ideas and concepts, but I can't animate. Basically, I can do just about anything other than animate. How would I start an animation studio? [link] [comments] |
FYI Watch out for Shady Amazon Seller Practices Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:09 PM PST Recently I went to sign up for an amazon seller account. Under their pricing tab, they have two accounts: Individual and Professional. The Individual has $0.99 fee per item listed and no monthly fee. The Professional account has no listing fees and a $39.99 monthly fees. Anyways, I was signing up and no matter what link I clicked it sent me to the Professional account sign up. I was only planning on selling a couple of items to start and I wanted the Individual account. I contacted support and they said. "You have to complete the registration for a Professional Seller account. While registering, you will be charged an initial subscription fee of $39.99. However, once the enrollment is completed, we can refund this amount to your Seller account balance." They said I would have to start with a Professional account and then downgrade to Individual. I think that this is very misleading and unethical way for amazon to get more money out of their new sellers. [link] [comments] |
I am trying to build a specific mailing list for my platform before launch Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:12 PM PST Hi everyone, I am trying to build a mailing list from scratch. this consists of people working on hobbies, entrepreneurs etc so they can collaborate and work on stuff together. I wanted to know if anyone would be interested on joining the mailing list for when the MVP launches or would know where I can build a list of people specifically interested in this? Thanks. Looking to start up an ecommerce site? Not sure which strategy to take... Posted: 08 Feb 2020 11:39 AM PST So I am looking to set up an ecommerce site. Problem is that I don't really know as to which approach to take. I have 2 options: a) have a buy / sell model (similar to Decluttr / Music Magpie) where I source goods from the public and then upsell. On top of that, have an online marketplace so that third party sellers can also sell their goods via your site. This approach would make the site more like Amazon. b) don't incorporate the buy / sell model (so as to ensure that one doesn't carry any inventory), and incorporate a third party seller feature only. This approach would make the site more like Ebay. So basically: Music Magpie + Ebay (Amazon)? OR Ebay? Which approach would you take and why? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:10 AM PST I'm 23 years old currently in the military. I've realized over the last year that I want to get I to business. My contract for the military ends in April of 2022, so I want to get a head start on education so I can be prepared to enter the field once I discharge from the Navy. Where is a good place to start with education? I'm not the college/classroom type of person, but I basically have all the college I want paid for with my GI bill once I get out, it also covers trades schools and any other type of education basically. I've thought about looking into entrepreneurships? My main thing is I want to get education hands on and to the point, I don't want to go to a university and have to take all the college prerequisites. Where is a good place to start? Any advice is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2020 11:33 AM PST Hi! I'm a freelance filmmaker trying to organize my contacts on LinkedIn, Facebook, shapr, and Instagram into categories such as cinematographer, VFX, grip, producer, etc along with contact info IE their emails and websites. I'm a visual thinker and learner so I tried making a table in google docs but it's turning out to be more tedious than I thought. Anyone know a site or app that organizes your online filmmaking contacts in a quick and easy manner? [link] [comments] |

Can diversifying what services we offer have negative impact? Posted: 08 Feb 2020 05:30 AM PST TLDR: Im scared of narrowing down my services into a palpable business model because I love doing lots of exciting creative things. Is my mum right? Should I keep offering every service I'm capable of offering? This is long, but I've been thinking about it for about two months and it's stopping me from actioning next steps.. so... My partner and I have worked in a mixture of creative roles (normally on a freelance basis) over the last ten years. My partner came from a theatre lighting and production management background. I started out as a graphic designer, I moved onto marketing and consultation, I then started getting more work in event design, experience design and light design (in tandem with some marketing consultation). More recently we have been combining our skill sets - we had the opportunity of working with three large brands, one charity, one beauty and one fashion on a shared event and experience design. Example Job- we fitted a moving light installation above a frosted perspex sheet in a white room to simulate day night cycles and also built a fake digital window frame that was playing 3d rendered 'view through a window' scenes. The space was filled with custom built furniture and lights(some pieces rented) and used as a workshop and presentation space. Another example was a small nail art station that was surrounded in 90s VHS monitors playing a custom short film/animation in phased loop surrounded by £2000 worth of jungle plants and pink lights. We see and feel the rise of 'experiences' and real human interaction in marketing as well as the importance of technologies like VR, AR and machine learning in the future of 'virtual' events and event spaces. Based on our experiences and recent positive feedback from previously mentioned clients, we are now working on a branded company website (we still operate as just two people's names at the moment and we're starting to sound like a lawfirm.) I'm getting stuck trying to figure out where to draw the line around what services said company should offer. The business is either going to be an: Event & experience design company - where we focus purely on corporate/public event and experience design. Provide rendered mockups, work to and manage client event budget, source and produce all hard and soft furnishings, AV equipment and staff if required. OR Should we also include all of our other skillsets and just set up a 'creative company' (meh, super vague) that offers this service alongside your traditional creative direction and marketing work that this event work was kind of born from. EVENT + EXPERIENCE DESIGN COMPANY Pro(s): -Solving a specific problem that should make it easier to market/target. -Sounds and feels and IS less vague. -There is less competition. -I would personally trust the quality of a niche provider more than a broad provider. (But I might be wrong about this so that's why I'm making this post). -More innovative, higher chance for research funding where vr/ar/ai and brand customer interaction crossover. Cons: - No more photography work - No more traditional design work - Being so niche might mean we don't get considered for jobs we would otherwise want. (Big design consultancy, art direction projects - because it's not an 'event'. - Traditional event companies that set up rows of chairs and put up lighters against the walls are what we will be associated with. SUPER VAGUE CREATIVE COMPANY Pro(s): - Not limited by scope of projects/outreach. - It's just inherently cooler if our company did the kinds of events I've mentioned as well as the creative direction on a fashion release or music video light design. - My mum would be happy that I'm not putting people off paying me. Con(s): - There are hundreds of thousands of super vague creative companies. - Gaining trust of new clients will be harder initially. - Jack of all trades impression - Cheapens the whole thing?? - My mum would be happy 🤪 My current internal vote sits at about 70/30 in favour of focusing down on this specific event and experience work. Does any of this make sense and do you have an opinion? [link] [comments] |

Religion from a business standpoint Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:02 AM PST From a business perspective a religion is one of the best things you can start, it's free of taxes on most countries, it auto-scales after convincing the first few people because it's now their (unpaid) job to convince even more; the demand is always there because most people have a biological innate fear of death/non-existence and just like with movies people crave a "happy ending", call it paradise, heaven or else; the best part is that the children of your believers are bound to be converted to your religion so there will be no lack of money donators on the long term, and is pretty easy to teach believers to denounce anyone that tries to convince them of leaving your religion as intolerant.
