Business partners wants out after only 4 months and wants 80k

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 09:45 PM PST

We bought a restaurant with two other associates. The initial investment was 70k we remodeled the place and spend about 130k total. The business has been mostly running with family as staff. Have a few employees and so far it has been breaking even. The ownership is divided 40,40,20. The business partner wants out with the excuse of not having enough time and help from his part of the family to run it with the rest of my family and the other partners family. Now he wants 80k for his part of the business. The other day he mentioned that he was also willing to purchase my part for 90k. I am neither selling nor buying since I invested a good portion in my percentage. The business is barely starting up again because the previous owners couldn't keep it open due to firing all the staff. This business has been around for a while and has its loyal customer already... so we are not starting from scratch. If we divide our initial investment he investment 52k but want 80k. It seems unfair for him to request so much money so soon. I don't know what to do. What are your thoughts and/or suggestions that we should do moving forward. Btw I do not want to sell my part nor does the other partner. Please help!

TL:DR: business partners want 80k for an investment of 52k in just 4 months. He also suggested to buy my part for 90k. I am not selling. Please help!!!

What Are the Five Most Critical Questions to Ask to Determine If a Dismissal Will Be Fair?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 11:48 PM PST

Sometimes, it happens that you have to fire an employee. Here are my five simple rules:

    1. Think of those who stay, more than of those who's fired. They are scared, they need support.
    2. Gather your subordinates and explain your decision.
    3. Tell them the rest of them are safe if they don't break the rules.
    4. Tell them what awaits them next.
    5. Talk in person to those who have been devastated by the firing of a colleague.

And what are your lifehacks? What do you do when you have to fire an employee?

How does one start a business for a board game?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 05:12 PM PST

My friend and I are designing a tabletop rpg we hope to eventually publish. We have the rough draft of a rulebook and we've hired an artist to make concept art for the game. We're all passionate about the project and hope to turn it into a business one day.

However, none of us really know how do start a business or turn our ideas into reality. What are the fundamentals of starting a small business and selling a game like this?

What can I do to help this 30+ year old business grow?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 10:25 AM PST

    Hey everyone.

I work in a small analog photography store located in the center of a capital city. We sell old film cameras (ranging from 20 - 5k euros) and film for said cameras, we have a lab for development also.

As you know film photography is somewhat forgotten or just a hipster format now, but in the recent years it has been brought back and sales have began to increase.

Our store has a little studio that we make photos for documents or for general use. This option makes us the most money for now but the studio is nothing special and if we need to shoot something bigger we need to rent out a bigger one.

We really want to boost camera sales and other servises such as photo books, high quality gallery prints, our "Order a photographer" service (basically wedding and mobile artistic photography), chemical sales and event promotion but we have almost no online presence or idea how to sell/promote those things other than do it locally. Our website is really outdated and some ads from 2016 are still staying up. I was thinking about making a Instagram, facebook and ebay store but Im not sure how that will work. Also we dont really have knowledge on how to make quality ads and where to run them.

    What are our options here?

    Reaching your full potential

Hi everyone as a muscle building coach I'm no stranger to how difficult it can be or how daunting it can be to start your fitness journey although it's something no one ever regrets doing it's something alot of people never do, and let's be honest after a couple of weeks it becomes fun because your working on yourself so you feel better your more productive and your mood is elevated because your releasing endorphins. I know that was the case for me and many others as fitness changed my life drastically improving my mental and physical health. As busy business owners I'm wondering if and how fitness has helped you, or a lack of it has held you back? 🙂

    How to handle startup paperwork?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 06:26 AM PST

Recently started selling my marketing services, filed the papers to form an LLC and got my tax papers and everything in check.

What else am I missing? Information on weather a need a business license and other stuff is a little unclear online and I don't want to skip over something I need or waste money on things I do not.

I live in Florida, can anyone tell me what I need or point me to where to find all the papers I need to operate legally? Thanks in advance

If one has an entrepreneurial streak, is it better to go it alone, or work with a franchiser who will act as the gatekeeper to what is acceptable?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 04:03 AM PST

One of the reasons that entrepreneurs fail in business is because they lack funds. But what about if an entrepreneur buys into a franchise that operates in the same business they are in?

With the necessary advantages in having company support and brand recognition etc, surely an entrepreneur can then opt to release new products via the franchise's network, thus giving them more exposure and leverage. At the same time, the franchiser can act as an investor / venture capitalist. Or is this a wishful scenario?

    Mobile axe throwing range.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 09:36 AM PST

Have been wanting to bring axe throwing bars to my country in Eastern EU for some months now, but decided to make it mobile and start with a minimum viable product, once the season starts. For people with similar experience/familiarity with the throwing axe bar concept - what tips would you have, what mistakes did you make, and how this shift will make things different in practice. Feel free to make it as concise as suitable. Any ideas for great luck would be appreciated aswell!

Is there a “Map of Business”?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 12:17 PM PST

This video illustrates a non-exhaustive map of computer science topics and their relationships. This helps to get a wider view of a specific area of human knowledge—in this case, computer science.

Is there anything similar when speaking of business? Not necessarily a video or graphic representation, could be just a list of topics.

I just want to have a wider view of all topics related to business, such as finance, negotiation, leadership, and so on, and how they are related, and which topics should I read and learn first.

    Products in stores

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 11:49 AM PST

I work for a smaller marketing firm and we recently taken a new client on board. It's a newer cosmetic line great for ladies with sensitive skin, we have a sales funnel and numbers are always fine, but I was wondering if there was anyway to get these products on the shelves of retail stores? The company is currently all online based but are price points are killer and the product is solid. I feel like it shouldn't be hard to get on retail store shelves I just don't know how to even start the process, does anyone else have experience with this?

How to manage a complex Feasibility Analysis?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 03:01 AM PST

A feasibility study should be always completed before launching any major new project, investment or venture. It serves a critical function in independently evaluating a plan or planned course of action, taking a fresh look at the assumptions behind it, the risks it faces and its chances of success. Feasibility studies were invented to avoid bad investment decisions, prevent businesses from targeting non-existent markets and to flag risks and pitfalls in even the most well thought-out investment or strategic plans.

We should not overlook the fact that a feasibility study is critical when:

    • Embarking on a major new business investment
    • Investing in a new market or product segment
    • Changing strategic or market focus of an existing business
    • Opening a new facility, chain of offices or stores
    • Moving from small/start-up phase to expansion with VC or other investment
    • Any greenfield development that does not duplicate existing business functions
    • Investing significant part of personal wealth in own business
    • Investing in new technology or operating approaches
    • Expanding into an unfamiliar market or territory (overseas)
    • Entering an already crowded or highly competitive market segment

A feasibility study is only useful if it gives definitive answers to specific questions. "Can we build a resort here?" may be an interesting question, but it is NOT specific enough to justify investing in a feasibility study. Whereas, "Can we build a 30,000 – 50,000 square foot, eco-friendly resort for wealthy couples between the ages of 25 and 50?" is much closer. Before you do the feasibility study, make sure you narrow it down to a reasonable level of detail.

To successfully conduct any complex feasibility study project, you should adhere to the following stages:

    • Step 1: Conduct preliminary analysis
    • Step 2: Outlining the project scope and conducting current analysis
    • Step 3: Comparing your proposal with existing products or services
    • Step 4: Examining the market conditions
    • Step 5: Understanding the financial costs
    • Step 6: Reviewing and analyzing data

Now the key question is how to manage a Feasibility study project? The structuring of the right team is the key to a successful project. The four core members of the team should be the senior researcher, the subject matter expert, financial analyst and a Project Manager cum Quality Analyst. The researcher should also take the responsibility of consolidating the document as and when inputs come from the other two resources, the financial analyst works on the commercial section and the subject matter expert on the technical section.

The project plan should clearly state the responsibilities of each of the participants and when they should be delivering each of the sections. Every resource should follow the plan and start delivering the work as per the plan. When different parts of the study keep rolling in, the document needs to be constantly checked for quality and consolidated as per the agreed structure. If there is any risk that is being observed, the Project Manager should immediately discuss it with the team and take remedial action.

Many projects are assessed to be feasible; in other words the study gives a green light. But, those projects are not devoid of potential risk factors. Therefore, to conduct feasibility study of a complex project, it is required to do risk assessment at every phase of the project without incurring high cost in terms of time and money invested.

The key focus should be that the project results in high value of ROI and becomes able to profitably sustain in the long run.
